Today is Pancake Day in many places around the world, and Penny shares the celebration with Gordon. It's his first time...
Gordon stared suspiciously at the plate set before him, a slight wrinkle to his brow.
He looked up at Penny and frowned deeper at the twinkling mischief in her eyes.
Not wanting to upset Lil, Gordon picked up his knife and fork and, pausing to follow Penny's lead, cut delicately into whatever the hell this was on his plate.
When Lady P had asked him if he'd like to come over for pancakes the next day he'd positively drooled on the spot.
But what the heck was this?
A small pile of…something…sprinkled with sugar and a squeeze of lemon?
What kind of food hell was this?
But Penny was eating it, small morsel by small morsel, so it couldn't be that bad. Could it?
Gordon cut himself a wedge and shoved it in his mouth. It took all his self-control not to spit it back out as the sour lemon overwhelmed him.
Swallowing with some difficulty he glanced at Penny again. There was more than a twinkle now. She was silently laughing at him.
With the greatest dignity he could muster - which was a lot! - Gordon helped himself to the silver sugar caddy and liberally sprinkled the sweet stuff on.
And ate the lot.
Penny looked both pleased and impressed, and Gordon smiled.
(Actually, with enough sugar it wasn't too bad, even if it wasn't a patch on Scott's pancakes.)
