"Xander, you have to stop dwelling on that cop." Cordelia said later, when they were in the quarters assigned to them.
"It's bugs me, Cordy. I feel like I went too far."
"Killing the other Wesen didn't bother you nearly as much as threatening this one cop did, why?"
"Because I made him feel helpless. The way Tony Harris would make me feel. It's a feeling I swore not to make anyone feel. And yet I did it."
"But you did it for a good reason, to save a life. They would have killed Monroe, you know that."
"I do and I don't regret helping them. But I can't help wondering if I went too far. I hate feeling helpless. I hate even more being responsible for someone else feeling helpless. How big a jump is it to enjoying making someone feel helpless?"
"Pretty damn big, Xander. Because if it bothers you this much, it's not going to be something you enjoy."
"But considering that method worked, it makes it tempting to try again if we're in a similar situation and then it becomes the go to and each time, I tell myself, I'm not going to enjoy it, but it's still thrilling."
"Like a high?"
"That might be a good analogy."
"Xander, I promise you, I won't let you fall. I probably will know before you, if you're having a problem, given my gift for premonitions and seeing. I'd get you to stop, I know I would. If I have to, Xander I'll be the dominate hyena Queen to pull you back, without making you feel helpless."
"You'd go that far for me?"
"You'd go that far for me." She reminded him.
"Yeah, I would. Alright, I'll work on not dwelling on it. Thanks for listening, thanks for making me talk."
"Bottling things up isn't going to do us any good, Xander. We're each other's world, literally. Going back to our reality is something that is a long way off. We need to be there for each other or this journey could destroy us."
"You're right."
"Of course, I'm right. You should know that by now."
"Yeah, I should, shouldn't I? We should get some sleep."
The next morning found them each looking for different things to do. Xander headed for Colonel O'Neill's office after getting directions and Cordelia got directions to the base library. Unless you worked here, there wasn't alot to do.
"Colonel, I'm sorry to bother you." Xander said when he found Colonel O'Neill.
"I'm not, you're saving me from paperwork. Something I can help you with?"
"Something to do? I'm kind of at loose ends here. Cordy's hunting down the library."
"We could go to the shooting range. You mentioned you know guns."
"I do and that sounds great. Before we started on this journey, Duncan, my foster father and I would spend part of each day sparing. He taught me how to use a sword and martial arts."
"Well then, let's go visit the shooting range and then have a spar. It'll get me out from under this mountain of paperwork for awhile." While Xander and O'Neill were heading to the range, Cordelia was finding the library and its scarce offerings. Finding nothing of interest, she asked for directions to Major Carter's lab. She was approaching it when she heard someone talking.
"And once again you demonstrate just how much of a dumb blond you are. Obviously they're lying to you. The Quantum Mirror does require one on each side to work. Either that or they just found this trinket somewhere and are pretending they're from another reality. You sure are gullible."
"And you're an arrogant ass, I can tell by the way you're talking to her." Cordelia said to the annoying person talking to Major Carter.
"And who might you be?" The middle age man was actually staring at her breasts.
"I'm nineteen and I'm so not into geriatrics. Remove your eyeballs from my tits before I remove them from your head."
"Hey, you're the one showing them off, I'm just appreciating them."
"You are obviously a geek who wouldn't know how to speak to a woman if your life depended on it."
"Hey, I'll have you know women fall over themselves to be with me!"
"To get away from you, you mean. You're obviously overcompensating for a tiny dick, by being a dick. Go breathe your noxious breath on someone else, because I don't want it anywhere near me or my property, which that control device is. It's not some trinket we picked up somewhere, our parents gave it to us. And we've been reality hopping for awhile without mirrors. Now, you were not given permission to touch that. The only person who has, is Major Carter. Kindly remove your hand from it."
"And how exactly are you going to make me, huh?"
"Like this."
And Cordelia slammed one of her daggers down on the lab table. In between two of Rodney McKay's fingers. The fingers currently touching the control device. He stared at the dagger imbedded in the table between his fingers and calculated mere millimeters between the blade and his fingers. His eyes rolled back in his head and he fainted. Cordelia pulled her dagger out and returned it to her boot.
"Well, this one didn't pee his pants."
