Chapter five
A two days after the fourth angel attack Shinji was en route towards a local grocery store to stock up on some food. So many thoughts were running through his mind like what he was feeling when the angel was pounding on him. He felt untamed anger and the last thing he saw was a crimson red flash of light before he blacked out . Shinji furled his brow deep in thought as he walked towards the store. Walking in he found it was pretty busy. Shinji set his sights towards the isle with the good produce , for making dinner. To his luck he found some affordable miso soup ingredients and good white rice as well.
" Well , looks I'll have something decent to eat tonight " said Shinji with a chuckle
He continued down to isle where they kept the instant food Shinji didn't expect to be in so much quanity. And he certainly didn't expect to see Misato come from the other end of isle with a beer case in hand.
" Hey , there Shinji didn't expect to run into you here. " said Misato in a cheery voice
Noticing the large beer case Shinji figured her for an alcholic.
" Yeah , it's a small world " .replied Shinji 'Most unfortunately so'
" Since we're both here why don't we shop together ". suggested Misato smiling
" No, thanks I'm alreadly finished here " .said Shinji picking a box of curry and walked off to the register. Misato feeling like she'd been slighted followed him. Glancing back at her Shinji asked
Is that all you're getting?" Shinji couldn't help but ask, as Misato had naught but a large case of beer.
"W-what's that look for?"
Shinji simply turned around to pay for his food. As he left, he noted Misato trailing behind him. Rolling his eyes in exasperation, he decided to pay no heed to the whimsical woman, and headed home.
Misato herself was absorbed by trying to unravel certain very surreal factoids about the boy, like that tid-bit Ritsuko shared with her:
"The boy is biologically not human"
And the aftermath of the last battle:
The dead angel floating belly-up in the lake; Unit-01arms rasied kneeling in the middle of a crater
According to Ritsuko, it was the feedback from the explosion that caused their communication equipment to malfunction; all of their equipment. Judging from the reports, as much as a quarter had to be replaced. While she was not as versed in the intricacies of electro-magnetisms and such, Misato did garner that the sheer amount of energy produced was... enough to make her shudder.
Incidentally, this also made recovering any sort of bio-reading on the pilot all but impossible. There was only one fact Misato could herself confirm: the pilot was unconscious when they managed to get him out of the Eva.
Questioning the said pilot has garnered them zilch, zip, zero and a whole lot of nothing: he plainly stated that he lost consciousness and did not remember anything past the angel counter-assault. Misato was somewhat saddened when she saw that the very mention of the incident made the boy fidget ever so slightly.
Her thoughts were cut short when the boy suddenly stopped. A closer look revealed that he was enthralled by something behind the pane of a jewelry shop window. So absorbed in his thoughts was he that he did not even notice her approach closer. Ever-curious, Misato peeked inside, following Shinji's gaze. There, on a soft, dark crimson cushion was a pair of what looked like golden bracelets of a strange design that was both simple yet unique. She did, in fact, at first glance, mistake them for a pair of ridiculously large rings.
"Oh , I see. interested in jewelry now are we?" asked Misato in an amused tone, startling Shinji out of his stupor. After giving her an annoyed look, he simply turned away and started walking again.
'Why did those rings seem so familiar?' thought Shinji glancing behind him - 'And why the hell is she still following me?!'
Shinji kept walking, hoping she would eventually leave him alone. After a few moments Misato was still persistently following him, so Shinji increased his pace. He suddenly felt a need a need to... to...
'... To run' - he realized. Almost immediately, his brain was hit with another of his waking dreams
' Hmph! Hope you can keep up with me!'
Deciding he has had enough, Shinji stopped.
"Why. Are. You. Following. Me?" - Shinji's tone steadily crossed from annoyed to downright indignant.
"Who? Me?" - Misato asked innocently. Getting nothing but an angry glare in return, she sighed - "Look, at your age, you should not be living on your own. You require... how should I say this... ah! That's right! Adult supervision" - Misato sounded quite proud of herself
But Shinji simply gave her a pitying look, before leaving her behind again.
"Hey-!" - Misato tried to overtake him, but to her chagrin, the boy kept increasing his pace.
Don't think you could escape an expertly-trained military officer, Ikari Shinji!" smirked Misato. In truth, she hasn't done anything too physical in the last few years; not to mention all that instant food and beer she'd had over the years . She wasn't, however, one to back down from a challenge, and so, huffing and puffing like a coal train, with her legs burning in places she didn't even know existed, gave chase. Shinji gripped his groceries tightly as he went ever faster. Wind whistled in his ears, his hair was a flailing mess, and he felt an indescribable and unmatchable feeling of... freedom. Everything around him slowly lost their shapes, steadily pooling into a collective blur around him.
Blink*
To his shock he suddenly found himself none other than right in front of his apartment's front door.
' Huh ,what the...?' - he looked around wildly - 'How'd I...?'
He looked at his watch; checked his breathing; noted the lack of perspiration or fatigue...
'No way that can't be right '

This was it. This was definitely it. The dreams, the vision, whatever they were; they finally got to him; he had finally snapped.
'No, no! Get a hold of yourself damnit!'
Barely resisting the urge to slap himself, he headed inside. One cold shower, and a hot dinner later, he was out again; a good walk in the cool fresh night air was exactly what he needed.
It was fate's twisted sense of humor that brought him right to the doorstep of that same antique shop; so, then, the fact that it was actually somehow still open for business at this hour must have been the punch line. Shinji all but threw his arms up in resignation and headed inside.
To his surprise it didn't seem like an ordinary place where a person would find antiques. Instead he found what various items such as a light blue bracelet ring, a fishing rod, a large pink mallet, a blue old wind up robot toy with a propeller on its head, a pair of metal gloves with digging claws, and a pair of white steel toed high-heel boots.
Shinji would have been amused by the ridiculousness of it all if it wasn't for how familiar it all was.
Making his way through more such items, he finally reached the counter. He was about to ring the bell, when something caught his eye. His curiosity getting the better of him for the first time in his life, he was about to reach down for it, when a gentle voice froze him in his tracks.
"And just what are you up to?"
Feeling very foolish indeed, he rose up, coming face to face with none other than Marika Hirota.

End Notes: Well hows that for a cliffhanger ? I'll be setting up poll do you want see the Jetalone or the fifth angel and Shinji/Shadow use Chaos Control ?or Chaos Spear? and yeah those items were from SA and SA2 example that that fishing rod belongs to Big The Cat. I wanted to show the hoover shoes Shinji/Shadow will be getting but I changed my mind and shifted towards the rings instead . Should it be during the Jetalone or the Fifth Angel Shinji/Shadow should either see or get them I want you the readers to decide.
