Chapter 14
Shinji was running full speed down the corridor. He was running so fast, it seemed everything melted all around him. He skillfully jump over a few oncoming obstacles with ease while his 'partner' slowly trailed behind him smashing said obstacles to pieces with her hammer. Shinji skidded to a halt when he ran into large metal door, marked L.
"I think we're getting close Ami." Shinji said staring at the metal door in front of them not the least bit winded
"Huff ...huff. How ..could you tell,?" Ami came up behind him out of breath
"You're in grade school, you should know your alphabets." he quipped pulling the level opening the door to reveal another large room.
Inside the room, the saw more dismantled robots lying around a large circular hole on the ground,with a red line going around it. The room was littered with rusted robot parts and metal boxes that looked like it had seen better days. The two walked in cautiously, on the lookout for any surprises from within.
"Stay on guard." Shinji instructed his eyes darting around every corner.
Suddenly medium sized purple spider robots crawled out from separate corners and targeted the two young intruders.
"Spiders, I hate spiders!" screeched Ami readying her hammer
Shinj looked around for something he could use as a weapon, to his luck he found some egg shaped looking weapon lying on top of an open container, a part of him was hoping it was a grenade or an EMP.
Mostly an EMP
Shinji took it and hurled it onto the oncoming horde and to his surprise it exploded on impact disabling them with a short wave electrical burst.
"That was lucky, let's go," Shinji said running in the opposite direction near the door marked O
"This must be it." he said pressing a button on the console causing the door to open with a slow rusted creak, like two rusted gears grinding together.
The doors parted mid way, but enough to provide an opening for the two. Shinji and Ami, both entered to see another large console, and yellow occupied tube in the center. It took every ounce of self control Shinji had to contain his elation.
"We've found him." he whispered
"Him?" Ami asked
"You'll see. " her companion replied replied walking up close to the tube
Inside was a large red humaniod looking robot. It had a tall head and bigger shoulders, along slender hands which could be mistaken for claws at a glance, it had flaps on both sides of its waist to serve some purpose, but what stood out the most to the pair was the omega symbol on its left shoulder.
"That symbol." the boy whispered to himself feeling another fragment of his dreams come before his eyes
Shadow stood with his two teammates, facing off against a red manned hawk shaped plane at the end of a long ancient pathway. It was here that he would get the answers he sought from the fat bald man in the cockpit.
"So you're the ones who were playing games with my army!" sneered the man
The red robot stepped forward and said in a monotone robot voice.
"Primary target detected, destroy Dr. Eggman"
"You must be Omega, Hmph! Is that anyway to treat your creator?Now witness your master's real power!" he declared
"Hey Hey," Ami waved her hand to get his attention "You spaced out again."
"Sorry," Shinji said looking at the occupied tube "This is it, Omega."
"Omega? Well that doesn't sound ominous." she said sarcastically.
However Shinji did not hear her as he looked at the robot, with a sense of familiarity, as if he was looking at an old friend hadn't seen in decades.
"Let's get him out here," Shinji said causing Ami's eyes to widened
"Are you crazy?!" Ami shouted "You want to release another dangerous killer robot, when all the other robots in this place have tried to kill us! Have you lost your whole mind?!"
"I can't explain why, but I know he won't. "He replied looking into the lifeless green optics of the robot.
He glanced towards the console at the other end and walked over to it, he typed in a few keys to get it started and received the exact same result as when they first entered. So he banged on the old console causing it to light up, activating the systems.
On the screen was, though it was distorted, the words read: Omega 2.0, then brought up some blurred information before the power went out again. He grunted in frustration then the tube suddenly lifted up with a steam of mist, releasing the robot from his prison. But Omega just sat there lifeless.
"Well so much for that, we should try to find a way out of here." Ami said looking around for an exit
However Shinji would not give up, he walked over to the lifeless robot,placing his hand on his dusty torso, he whispered.
"Omega."
Then suddenly the optics began to light up a bright green, the once lifeless robot began to slowly to come to life shocking Ami, He stood up to his full height, showing itself to be obviously bigger and taller than Shinji, his lit up scanning Shinji.
"E-123 Omega , now online." he said in an emotionless robotic tone
The red towered over the pair and its optics lit up focusing on them.
"What's it doing?" Ami asked getting behind Shinji
"Scanning, new master designation please."
They both looked at each other, before Shinji spoke up almost hesitantly.
"Shinji, Ikari." he said
"Shinji Ikari, new master accepted ." Omega said in an emotionless tone, its head spinning around
The red robot stood still as if awaiting an order, Shinji walked around looking over Omega's massive frame
"Incredible."
Just then loud noises where heard, and hordes of bug robots blasted it the room and targeted the two human intruders, if the red target beams were any indication.
"Oh not good." Ami squeaked
Shinji just growled and prepared shimself for a fight, however Omega stepped in front of him and Ami in a protective manner, he stuck out his massive arms and his skeletal claw like hands shifted into Gatling guns.
"He's armed?!, What is he?! A terminator?!"
"Shut up! And Take cover!"
Shinji pulled Ami behind the console while Omega took aim.
'Worthless consumer models'
"Annihilate! Annihilate!"
RATTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Omega fired off a shower of laser bullets at robots filling them with holes, some even exploding from the impacts, then just like that it was over, and all the bug bots were destroyed. Both kids looked up from the console completely bewildered at the sight of the smoking pile of destroyed scrap that were once the attacking robots.
"That escalated quickly." Shinji commented
"You said it." Ami replied completely filled with relief
Omega shifted his Gatling guns back into hands and turned to the two teens as if awaiting an order, specifically from Shinji.
"Well great, so how are we supposed to get out of here?" Ami asked
As if responding to that question on whim, a pair of flaps popped out below Omega's hunch revealing jet boosters.
"My guess is like that." Shinji said
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
(Ten minutes later outside nightfall)
"Well that problem is solved, but we still have another one." the pink haired girl said
Releasing a tired sigh Shinji knew this question was coming the instant he woke up the big red deadly looking machine.
"What are we going to do with him?"
"We? " Shinji snorted "No, the correct term is what am I going to do with this guy, I'll tell you one thing I'm not handing him over to Marika, or Nerv for that matter."
Ami turned red with anger.
"That's not fair! I helped you find him! I've been shot at and nearly killed by those killer robots because of you!"
"You weren't even supposed to be with me the first place! You followed me, remember that?! You chose to follow me, besides I collected enough 'souvenirs' for the old lady to sell or display or whatever else she may want to do."
"If it wasn't for me you wouldn't have gotten them at all!"
Shinji sighed tiredly knowing she had a point, he looked up at the night sky, then glanced back at Omega, who rotated his head around. Suddenly an idea came to mind.
"I think I how to get him back my place …..unnoticed." Shinji spoke
"How?"
"You're not afraid of heights are you?" he asked
(At NERV)
"Fascinating," Rei whispered as she looked at the screen
Here she was looking at the latest footage of Unit 01's incursion with the malfunctioning Jet alone robot, The large purple Unit suddenly disappeared and reappeared in front of the robot in a flash. She replayed the footage again, Rei clearly saw the Unit trail behind the large nuclear powered machine for a good few minutes then suddenly it blew right past it, preparing to stop it in its tracks.
She replayed the footage over and over again of the purple Eva going at a top speed, then remembered the way Shinji ran on the track. It was as if he was chasing someone, someone only he could see, she remembered the way he ran past all the students on the field just like this.
Who are you Ikari? What are you?"whispered Rei
"That's a good question."a voice said startling her
The first child looked behind to see Captain Misato Katsuragi behind her with her things together, preparing to leave.
"Captain." Rei address in a monotone
"Shouldn't you be going home? What are you doing looking at that?" asked Misato
"I was merely reviewing the footage, of your incursion from the jet alone project."
"May I ask why?"
"Curiosity."
"Curiosity about the third child are you?" she asked in a teasing manner
Ignoring the teasing for the moment the girl replied
"He is...different than what was expected, there's more to him then meets the eye."
"So you noticed too, huh? "
"What is your opinion of pilot Ikari Captain?" the girl asked
Misato blinked at the blunt question but replied
"Shinji seems like a defiant, wild spirit that can't be tamed, or seemingly controlled." she said
"Hmm..."
"But that doesn't mean I won't try, that boy needs to learn something." Misato said before walking away.
'She's in for an epic fail,' a voice rang out in Rei's mind
The girl looked around briefly wondering what the voice was, thinking that she was just hearing things. Deciding to leave it for now Rei turned off the screen and walked out of the room, unknown to her a pair of transparent green eyes were watching her.
(Next Day Shinji's apartment)
A petite bat wearing a form fitting purple suit, was seen dropping down through a vent all the way to a vault. She cautiously puts her back to the door and enters the passcode on the keypad, and the vault opens.
'This must be it! I've found Eggman's secret treasure!' she exclaimed with glee.
The bat slowly and cautiously approached the green liquid filled stasis pod. Unaware that a pair of green optics had just lit up and scanned the room, the bat typed in some keys console, draining the liquid setting free the black hedgehog that slept inside, the hatch open and she gasped
'It can't be!' she thought
The black hedgehog's crimson red eyes, snapped open and darted to the right. Without warning the hedgehog tackled the bat to the ground, while the robot fired rapidly into the room attempting to hit the black the hedgehog.
'Stay here' he said
'Shadow!' she said seeing him leap off
The large red robot continued to fire all the around the room trying to hit the hedgehog.
'Must eradicate all Eggman's robots!' he said in a robotic voice.
'What?'
The black hedgehog dove straight at the robot, the white bat intercepted , stopping them in their tracks.
'Hey! hold up!' she cried stopping them both.
Breathing deeply for a few moments before straightening herself out, she sat on a ledge to think while looking at the destruction the room, then purple clad intruder began to speak.
'Now I get it... now I know what this is all about. You're mad at Eggman for sealing you in this room.' she said speaking to the red robot, then glanced at the hedgehog.
' And you... you can't remember anything, can you?'
The black hedgehog, didn't respond but she took it as a no.
' Then it's settled. Now you two make up so we can start looking for Eggman, together!'
She jumped down,and pulls the two closer albeit reluctantly, putting their hands on top of each other, then putting her hand on top of theirs.
'Aw yeah, baby, this makes us a team!'
Shinji awoke with a start, sitting up from his bed as the morning light peered through his window.
"A team?" he whispered looking at his hand, the way it felt when they touched, it felt so real
Getting up from bed, he did some quick calisthenics, stretching out the cranks in his arms, yesterday was so for a lack of a better word...exhilarating. Crushing those robots dodging those traps and getting through those obstacles , seemed almost enjoyably natural to him, a small smile graced his face at the thought of facing more robots, but frowned as to where the thought came from. More importantly how Omega came to be.
"Who in the hell built you?" he whispered thinking of the large robot in his living room.
A sound from his living room broke Shinji from his musings, walking out the door he was greeted by the sight of his latest 'acquisition' standing in the window motionless on standby mode, and someone going through around his fridge and his cupboards, getting a closer look the boy was surprised to see, it was the kimono clad Ruju in his apartment.
"How the hell did you get in here?!" Shinji demanded in an irritated tone startling her
Turning to the boy with a smile she said.
"You don't have the much in way of snacks you know." she said nonchalantly closing the refrigerator door.
"I don't need much, now what are you doing here? And how did you get in here?"
"Little Ami had informed me of your recent 'acquisition' and I thought to take a look for myself, plus I can pick locks easily."
Pushing past him, she went inside the empty living room, seeing the large red robot just standing there silently, just as Shinji and Ami found him. Ruju found herself drawn to Omega in a trance like state, touching top of his head, and feeling on his thick arms and body.
"Magnificent." she whispered
"I'm gonna tell you the same thing I told Ami, I don't care how dangerous he seems, he's not for sale, I am not handing him over to anyone,-"
"Dear boy, I don't want you to sell me the robot, no and I won't strong arm you into handing him over to me, since something tells me I can't win against you." Ruju laughed
Shinji folded his arms and narrowed his eyes in suspicion then asked.
"Then why are you here then?"
Ruju turned to the boy with expressionless face.
The boy merely kept silent, Ruju took it as sign to continue.
"You finding this robot is no coincidence, you were meant to find him and I was meant to meet the both of you."
"What exactly are you saying? Were we some sort of team in your memories ?" he asked skeptically although he was having the same feeling.
Ruju suddenly turned from expressionless to upbeat excited.
"I think we were in the past life, and we can be again!

End Notes: There you have it Omega the Omega is now on Team Dark, I'm actually doing this without my beta for the time being since demand for this story is getting high so sorry for the shortness of the chapter. We're a bit off from the Asuka meeting and no she's not housing a Sonic character soul, but there will be another Sonic character that's part machine make an appearance in soon. Right I'm just winging this I as go along more of Shinji/Shadow's memories will surface, and he'll go on other treasure seeking adventures with the reformed Team Dark searching for personal items and landmarks.
