Hannah wandered out to the body of water on the east end of Skyward School of Practical Sorcery to attend her first meeting of Water Club and immediately noticed three things: Water Club was a small club with only five students in it, it was a club dominated by youth as it contained two second years and three first years, and it was a decidedly female club, with four out of five students in the club being girls. Hannah also saw a tall and lanky woman with medium brown hair and brown eyes who she assumed must be the leader of Water Club.
"Good afternoon Miss Abbott, "My name is Wanda Wet, and I am the leader of Water Club."
"Hi, Hannah, " said the other second year, the only boy present, "My name is Justin Finch Fletchley, and I was in Gryffindor at Hogwarts last year."
"I remember seeing you sorted into Gryffindor during the ever so brief time I was at Hogwarts, " acknowledged Hannah. "I've loved water all my life, what about you?"
"Truth be told, "said Justin matter of factly, "I'm one of those people who doesn't have any real interests but enjoys just about all activities. Boring as it sounds, I chose Water Club without giving it much thought. If it wasn't for Headmistress Abbott's requirement, I would probably not have joined a school club owing to a lack of specific interests."
"You're one of the types of people mom's club mandate was targeting, " said Hannah crisply, "Mom is emphasizing clubs more for the social aspect than the activities themselves."
"It's nice to meet you, Hannah," said Justin sounding a bit formal but kindly all the same.
"You too, Justin,' said Hannah warmly.
Next nanosecond, the three first year girls all walked up to them.
The first was small and short and had brown eyes, really light brown hair, and deeply tanned skin.
"Hi, " the girl happily, "My name is Fiona Float and I'm muggleborn. I've been swimming and diving all my life. My parents had me swimming at the age of three and I learned to dive when I was only six. Joining Water Club was a no brianer for me. I'm only at Skyward School of Practical Sorcery because there are no magical schools in my homeland of Alabama. I assume I would've gone to Hogwarts last year if I would have been of age. For what it's worth, my mom and dad are 100% in favor of the club mandate. Both told me point blank that joining Water Club would not only be the fun experience that I fully anticipate it being, but that it would also be a wonderful opportunity for me to make friends with people who have similar interests to mine."
"I welcome that opportunity myself, even already having three close friends," beamed Hannah, "Mom was right on the money when she told Harry, Amy, Susan, and myself that joining different clubs from each other would be good for us."
"As for me, " said an average sized average heighted first year girl with jet black hair and brillant green eyes, "My name is Crystal Current. I too am muggleborn, but I've lived in the U.K. my whole life. My journey to Water Club has not been entirely smooth though. I nearly drowned when I was five. I was lucky to survive, and I would rather not talk about it too much. However, my parents insisted after the scare that I take swim lessons every year thereafter. Mom and dad had me keep taking swimming lessons every year because they not only wanted me to master swimming but have a lot of practice at it as well. When mom and dad saw the list of clubs offered at Skyward School of Practical Sorcery., they told me without hesitation that I was joining the Water Club."
"They didn't let you have any say in the decision?" asked an unusually shocked sounding Hannah.
"No, they didn't," admitted Crystal, "But I'm not complaining. It's clear to me that my club mates are nice people and I think Wanda is going to come up with some creative ways for us to have fun in water."
The last person to introduce herself was a tall and chubby first year girl with golden brown hair and green eyes.
"I'm Amanda Aqua, " the girl introduced herself, "The Aquas are an old British wizarding family. I've never had much exposure to water outside of the shower, but I chose Water Club because I wanted the challenge of doing something different. I've spent so much of my life flying and playing Quidditch. But I chose Water Club rather than Broom Club because I've spent so much time around brooms and have so much knowledge of brooms that brooms just bore me now. Water Club is a chance to do something fresh and different."
Wanda suddenly retrieved her wand from her right hand pocket with her right hand and pointed it at the students.
Wanda made some motions with her wand and performed some non-verbal spells.
"Justin, Hannah, Fiona, Crystal, and Amanda, I just put strong waterproofing spells on all your clothes, " explained Wanda, "I don't want you lot doing anything too difficult or competitive today. This first meeting is mostly a meet and greet, but you may all have a swim in the water. "
Justin, Hannah, Fiona, Crystal, and Amanda all entered the water excitedly and spent the rest of the period calmly and slowly swimming.
They stayed together as a group as they swam and Justin, Hannah, Fiona, Crystal, and Amanda started bonding with each other as they did so.
