DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER.
Amelia was sitting in bed at 7 in the morning, looking at her children as they slept on and running her fingers through their hair.
Something had happened during that thunderstorm.
Harry had called her 'Mummy'.
On one hand, she felt so moved to hear Harry call her that. To know that he trusted her to that extent warmed her heart.
On the other hand, she felt a little guilty. Harry shouldn't be calling her that. That title was for Lily. As much as Amelia loved Harry, she knew that she could not replace Lily and had no intention of trying to do so.
But if Harry wanted to call her 'Mummy', would it be right to say no?
She couldn't.
But at the same time, she decided that she would make sure that Harry remembered who his mother was, Lily.
At 8 o'clock, Harry stirred and rolled over towards Susan. Susan slowly opened her eyes and looked at him.
And then, she smiled and hugged him.
Harry slowly opened his eyes and upon seeing Susan hugging him, he hugged her back.
Slowly, they sat up.
And just at that moment, Aunt Amelia came in, drying her hair with a towel.
As soon as she entered, she stretched her arms forward and rushed towards her children.
Placing her towel on the side of the bed, Amelia hugged Harry and Susan and kissed them all over their faces, cooing all over them as she did so.
Just after the kids had brushed their teeth, Amelia said, "Susan, I'll be ready to give you and Harry your bath in a few minutes. Just wait in your bedroom. You can read something until it's time for bath."
"Okay Aunty," Susan replied.
Amelia turned to Harry and said, "Harry, we need to talk. Come with me."
Saying so, she held his shoulders and they went to his bedroom.
Upon entering the bedroom, Amelia knelt down to Harry's level and holding his shoulders, she spoke, "Harry, do you remember what happened last night?"
Harry just looked at her.
Amelia asked, "Do you remember that you called me something, something that was not Aunty or Godmummy?"
Harry looked afraid. He had called her Mummy, and he was feeling scared that he had called her the wrong name.
So he responded, "Mummy. I'm sorry Godmummy."
Amelia said, "Harry, don't be sorry for calling me Mummy. You don't have to be sorry for anything. You didn't call me the wrong name, and I'm not mad at you."
Even as Harry looked at her, she continued, "If you want me to be your Mummy instead of Aunty, that's alright with me. All I ask for is that you don't forget your Mummy Lily. She loved you very much."
Harry turned to his left to look at a picture of Lily and James holding him, hanging on the wall.
He pointed to Lily saying, "Mummy," then pointed to Amelia saying, "Mummy."
Amelia stood up and smilingly picked him up saying, "When your Mummy and Daddy were still around, you called her Mama and your Daddy, Dada. Why don't you call them Mama and Dada? Then it will be easy to know which one is Lily and which one is me. Lily, Mama, me, Mummy. Okay?"
"Okay Mummy," Harry replied.
Amelia said, "And as your Mummy, let me hold you in my arms and kiss you."
With that, she knelt down and cradled Harry in her arms before proceeding to kiss him all over his face.
Afterwards, she got Susan and carried both her and Harry to the bathroom before proceeding to turn on the tap.
A few minutes later, the important part done, Harry and Susan were playing with a few rubber ducks and a sailboat.
Amelia bunched up her right hand fingers together and pointing them forward, began to move her right hand under the water as if it were a dolphin.
As soon as she neared the sailboat, her hand 'leapt' out of the water and flipped over before 'falling' back in and splashing Harry and Susan, causing them to giggle.
A minute later, she said, "Well, I think that's enough, time to dry you both."
A few minutes later, she and the children were standing in the kitchen, fully dressed up and ready for breakfast.
Amelia made the kids sit at the table saying, "Now you just sit down here, while I get you're fruit bowls ready. Then I'll make you some really nice toasted crumpets with butter and marmalade and a little oatmeal."
With that, she kissed their cheeks and went into the kitchen.
A few minutes later, Harry and Susan, having finished their fruits, were munching on toasted buttered crumpets. Harry, who was on his second crumpet, beamed as he tasted marmalade on it, which Amelia had spread for him after seeing that he liked it very much.
Susan laughed and said, "You got marmalade all over your face!"
Amelia took a tablecloth and wiped it off saying, "Harry, you've got to be careful. It doesn't need to be all over your mouth. Oh no, you've got some on your chin! I can see you love marmalade."
Soon after breakfast, Remus came and Amelia left for work after plenty of hugs and kisses. Harry cried but Amelia assured him that nothing bad would happen and that she'd come back.
Soon, she was in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and she was currently in Crouch's office, discussing important matters such as upcoming meetings.
And just after they had finished, as Amelia expected, Crouch said in an exasperated tone, "Speaking of upcoming meetings and other matters, I don't even understand why Sirius Black needs a trial at all!"
Amelia said, "Sir, he was never tried or interrogated. He may be a Black, but that doesn't mean that he shouldn't receive a trial. And it will be soon at the end of July."
Crouch said, "Honestly, why do you keep on trying to help him?! You know how dangerous the Blacks have been! Have you forgotten Bellatrix Lestrange? She was a Black before she married into the Lestrange family."
Amelia replied, "It's true that Bellatrix was an evil one, but her sister Andromeda Tonks who was also Black didn't turn out to be evil. And Sirius was against everything his family believed in."
Crouch sneered, "So everyone thought, until the day he finally exposed himself by killing Peter Pettigrew plus twelve Muggles, and then cried out 'I killed them' when it came to betraying the Potters!"
Amelia said, "Sir, please, I know Sirius, he wouldn't betray James and Lily like that. He wouldn't betray Harry, his godson."
Crouch said, "I just can't believe you won't accept the fact that Black is the evil one! Only because you are an efficient member of the DMLE, and because you have constantly begged me for a trial, I have agreed, but it won't really help in any way, except that we'll probably gain some more information. Anyway, you'll soon understand that such a trial was unnecessary."
He remained silent for a few moments and said, "But anyway, what are we doing right now? We should get back to our duties."
Soon, it was time for the lunch break and Amelia was walking towards the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office to speak with Arthur Weasley after a quick trip to the atrium.
She was just about to step into a lift when she saw someone coming out of another lift nearby; Dumbledore.
Dumbledore saw her and approached her. As soon as he reached her, Amelia spoke, "Good day Dumbledore."
Dumbledore replied smilingly, "Good day to you too Amelia."
He then whispered to her, "Do not worry, everything will be alright. Do not worry."
And with that, he went his own way, smilingly.
Amelia stared at him in confusion, wondering just what he meant.
And then a thought clicked in her mind. Perhaps he was trying to help her get custody of Harry and have Sirius' trial advanced. She hoped it would turn out to be just that.
Soon, it was 4:30 and Amelia was able to leave the Ministry to go back home.
But first, before she got home, she wanted to buy something for her children.
So she apparated to Hogsmeade and bought some sweets from Honeydukes. As she was paying for the sweets, she couldn't help smiling at the thought of using a liquorice wand and pretending to turn Harry into candy and eat him up.
Soon, she was back in the neighborhood of Park Lane, walking down the sidewalk excitedly to her house where Harry and Susan would be waiting for her with Remus.
As soon as No. 9 came into view, Amelia saw Harry and Susan running towards her with Remus following them to make sure they were okay.
And when they reached her, they wrapped their arms around her legs with Harry crying out, "Mummy," and Susan crying out, "Aunty."
Amelia hugged them tightly and kissed them all over their faces.
Sometime later, after Remus had said goodbye and left, Amelia was standing in front of the children in the living room with a liquorice wand in her hand.
She moved over to Harry, waved the wand and pointed it at him. She then excitedly spoke, "Boom, now you're candy. You're so sweet, and now you can't escape."
Saying so, she wrapped her arms around Harry and kneeling down to his level, she pretended to eat him saying, "Mummy's going to eat you, I'm going to eat you."
After she had 'finished off' Harry, she ran after Susan who had run up all the way to the playroom and did the same thing to her.
Afterwards, she kissed Susan just as Harry walked into the playroom.
She beckoned him to come closer and when he was close enough, she placed him in her lap and kissed his cheeks.
She then went downstairs and made a snack of cheese and crackers along with a few sweets that she had gotten from Honeydukes. Of course, she made sure that the amount of sweets wouldn't be too much for the kids.
She was just about to pour some juice for the kids when she suddenly heard a knock on the front door.
She went to open it and when she did, she saw none other than Albus Dumbledore standing on her porch with a smile on his face.
"Ah, good evening Amelia," Dumbledore spoke, "I hope you are doing well."
Amelia replied, "Good evening Dumbledore, do come in and have a seat."
Dumbledore entered the house and sat on the armchair in the living room.
Amelia asked, "Could I get you a cup of tea?"
Dumbledore replied, "That would be lovely. Thank you."
Amelia prepared some green tea for Dumbledore and gave it to him before sitting on the sofa opposite to him, her own cup of green tea on the coffee table just in front of her.
Dumbledore had a sip and said, "Excellent tea Amelia. By the way, is Harry free right now?"
Amelia replied, "He's playing upstairs. Why?"
Dumbledore's expression became serious and he said, "I want to apologize to him for what I put him through. It was my fault that Harry was abused. If I had checked up on him, it would have ended long ago. I want to thank you, Amelia, for doing the right thing."
Amelia was surprised upon hearing that and said, "I appreciate your support. I'm not sorry at all for removing Harry from his relatives. Whatever protection the blood bond charm might have offered Petunia and Vernon inside their house, they don't deserve it."
Dumbledore said, "Regarding that, you were right. I was the one who cast the blood bond charm, not Lily. She gave her protection, and the blood bond charm provided a powerful layer. But now its power will not last anymore. Still, I believe that Lily's protection itself will still hold, but it will not be as strong as it would be with the blood bond charm's power, so if Voldemort rises again, you will need to take every precautionary measure. You will probably have to use the Fidelius charm, but now it will not be required. As it is, Voldemort does not have a body. He cannot harm Harry right now."
Amelia nodded at that saying, "Lily's protection will be there either way, but the blood bond charm won't work anymore now. Still, Lily would have wanted Harry to be loved. That's what's most important."
Just then, Harry entered the room and moved towards Amelia upon seeing Dumbledore, looking at him with a curious and slightly wary expression on his face. This old man had earlier said that he had to go back to his relatives, but when the mean man in black had yelled at him, this man had comforted him with a hug.
He seemed nice.
Amelia looked at Harry and said, "Harry, this is Albus Dumbledore. He was also a good friend of Mama and Dada. He was here yesterday, and he gave you a hug when that man in black was mean to you. He wants to say something to you."
Harry looked at Amelia and then at Dumbledore.
Dumbledore looked at Harry and said, "Hello Harry. It's nice to see you. Will you please come over here for a moment?"
Amelia patted Harry's back saying, "Go on Harry, its okay. Don't worry."
Harry slowly moved closer to Dumbledore and stood right in front of him.
Dumbledore clasped Harry's hands in his own and spoke, "Harry, I want to tell you that I am very sorry for what your aunt and uncle did to you. I knew you when you were a baby, and after your parents died, I wanted you to be safe, so I sent you to your aunt Petunia and uncle Vernon. I thought that they would love you. I was wrong. I made a terrible mistake by leaving you there. I wouldn't let your Aunt Amelia just have you, but that was wrong on my part. But now that I know everything, I promise you that you will never go back to your aunt and uncle. You are far happier living with your Aunt Amelia."
"Mummy," Harry suddenly corrected him, "She my Mummy."
Dumbledore looked curiously at Amelia, and was about to say something to her, but then decided against it. After all, it was better for her to handle it. And she was not someone who would try to replace Lily.
He said to Harry, "Yes, your Mummy will take care of you, and I will do all that I can to help you when you need it. Once again, I am sorry for everything. I hope you can forgive me."
Harry looked at Dumbledore with wide eyes. As far as he could remember, no one else had said sorry to him. Of course, his Mummy had said sorry for scaring him, but this was different. Not like Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia who would yell at him and punish him saying that sorry was not good enough, even when he had not done anything bad and had tried to be a good boy.
The next moment, Dumbledore found the small boy in his lap, hugging him.
He hugged Harry back.
After the hug, Dumbledore pulled out two lemon drops and asked Amelia, "I hope you won't mind me giving him and your niece a few lemon drops."
Amelia smiled and said, "Well, just one for each. They can have them a little later."
Dumbledore smiled and handing the lemon drops to Harry, he said, "That's for you and that's for your friend. Now why don't you give those to your Mummy and run along? You can eat your candy later on. Of course, I don't want you to have too much sugar, and your Mummy won't want you to either."
Amelia said, "What do you say Harry?"
Harry looked up at Dumbledore and said, "Thank you, uh, uh…"
Dumbledore said, "You can call me Albus if you want, but I would love for you to call me Grandpa."
Harry smilingly replied, "Thank you Grampa."
Dumbledore smilingly replied, "You're welcome Harry. Now, run along."
Harry climbed off Dumbledore's lap and bounded over to his Mummy. He gave the two candies to her and kissed her hand before running off to play with Susan who was still in the playroom.
Dumbledore then looked at Amelia and said, "I am aware that you need legal guardianship of Harry."
He pulled out a stack of papers from his robes and said, "I spoke to the Minister this afternoon, thinking it would be best, and luckily, I managed to convince her that you are the best choice. She now has no qualms about the matter."
Amelia asked, "Does Barty Crouch know?"
Dumbledore replied, "Well, yes, he came to the Minister's office, and he heard everything, but luckily, after I spoke to him, he agreed not to oppose your guardianship."
Placing the stack of papers in front of her on the coffee table, he said, "All you have to do, is to sign these, and you will be recognized as Harry's legal guardian."
Amelia looked at Dumbledore in wonder saying, "You mean it? You mean to say you support me in this matter?"
Dumbledore said, "I assure you, you have my full support."
Amelia smiled at that and went to her office room to get a quill and a bottle of ink.
As she returned and sat down on the sofa, Dumbledore said, "I am also going to try to convince Crouch and the Minister to advance the date of Sirius Black's trial to as early as possible. If I was wrong about the Dursleys, I could be wrong about Sirius too."
Amelia beamed in joy and said, "Thank you so much Dumbledore."
Dumbledore just smiled.
Amelia then set about signing the documents in front of her, her heart warming up with motherly love and joy as she did so.
She was now Harry's legal guardian.
After the signing, Dumbledore smiled and bade her and the children goodbye before leaving for the Ministry to hand over the signed documents to the Minister and Crouch who no doubt would want to know about the change in guardians, Harry being the Boy-Who-Lived.
That evening, while they were all eating their dinner, Amelia noticed Susan staring at her on and off instead of eating her food. Amelia couldn't help wondering what was going on.
And then it suddenly dawned upon her. Harry had started calling her Mummy. How would Susan feel about that? Would she also want to call her Mummy? Was that why she was staring at her? Perhaps that's what it was.
Sure enough, that night, when Amelia was putting Susan to bed, the small girl asked, "Aunty, can I call you Mummy?"
