DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER.
Amelia and Sirius had filed charges against the Dursleys, the Muggle way of course. Amelia had hoped that there would be some way for Harry to not have to testify, but those hopes had died down until it had turned out that Dumbledore was going to be their lawyer. He had offered to represent the aggrieved party and would be saying that he and Amelia worked with the government.
With the help of Muggle cameras, and some help from Arthur, Sirius and Amelia had entered Harry's memories of his time with the Dursleys to take photos so that it would be more evidence against the Dursleys than whatever they may have come up with to save their skin.
During this time, Sirius had had to reapply for a driving license, as his previous one had been destroyed the day he had been imprisoned. Luckily, the process had been successful. He had also made sure to register himself as an animagus, which luckily had been very easy due to his fiancé being the Head of DMLE.
Amelia had had to go to work on all weekdays, but luckily, Harry and Susan had been having fun with Sirius and Remus. Also, Amelia had managed to find a capable deputy, Charles Smethwick, a middle aged just wizard.
Crouch had lost all his popularity and many of his fans had turned on him. The only consolation was that he had not been demoted to anything lesser than a head of a department, although it was a disgrace for him that he had been shunted into the Department of International Magical Cooperation.
Dumbledore had been trying to find out which judges were squibs and had been sending Sirius and Amelia regular updates plus sweets from Hogsmeade on and off for Harry and Susan.
Amelia had also been able to get Remus into the auror office, knowing that he was a good duelist and had achieved several O's in his OWLs and NEWTs. The head auror had been hesitant to accept Remus, as he was a werewolf, but Amelia, now a high ranking Ministry official as the head of DMLE, had been able to vouch for him and convince the head auror to accept Remus and keep his identity as a werewolf a secret, making it known only to a select group of aurors that would be working with Remus. Luckily, Alastor Moody, also known as Mad-Eye-Moody, who had been present had volunteered to mentor Remus himself. Having worked with him in the war against Voldemort, Moody knew that Remus had good experience.
It was now the 16th of June and Amelia and Sirius had received a notice two day ago stating that the trial would take place on the 30th.
Knowing the possibility that Harry would have to testify and that there would be no way of simply showing his memories regarding what had gone on indoors with the Dursleys, they had come up with a plan to prepare Harry.
Currently, Harry, Ron, Hannah, Sirius, Amelia, Remus, Molly, Arthur, Percy and the twins were gathered in the living room.
The armchair in front of the fireplace was vacant.
Amelia stood up and announced, "The court is in session, Ron Weasley and Hannah Abbott vs. Sirius Black, with judge Susan Bones presiding.
Susan entered the living room wearing a shrunk set of Amelia's black robes, a black cape, and even one of Amelia's Wizengamot headdresses. Amelia herself was wearing one, as Harry loved the sight of her with it.
Remus lifted Susan and placed her on the armchair.
Susan, holding a squeaky hammer in her right hand, banged it against a box that had been placed on the coffee table to suit her height and yelled, "Order, order, order. Now it's time for the case. The case of missing cookies is now underway. How do you plead?"
Amelia stated as she sat down next to Sirius on the opposite couch, "My client pleads not guilty your honor."
Susan stated, "Okay, Ron's turn now."
Harry looked at his 'evidence' papers that his Mummy had made and said, "Uh…"
He then heard Remus whispering, "Ron to the stand. Call Ron. You want Ron to the stand."
Harry called out, "Ronnie to the stand!"
Ron who was sitting in his mother's lap, moved over to the side of the coffee table, on Susan's right side.
Harry was standing next to Susan.
Remus moved over to Ron carrying a book and said, "Ron, will you be a good boy and say nothing but the truth?"
Ron replied loudly, "Yes!"
Remus replied, "Good, Harry, ask your questions to Ron."
Harry looked at his 'instruction' papers and spoke, "What happened?"
Ron replied, "Uncle Paddy took my cookie. He ate Hannah's cookie too."
Hannah who was sitting nearby called out, "Can I tell him now?"
Emily who was behind her whispered something in her ear.
Hannah called out, "Can I please talk at the stand now?"
Harry looked at Amelia, who nodded. He said, "Yes. It's Hannah's turn now."
Hannah approached the 'stand' and spoke, "Uncle Sirius took cookies from me and Ron and ate them."
Susan looked at the 'instructions' and turning to her Mummy, she said, "Your turn."
Amelia smilingly stood up and said, "I am Amelia Bones, representing Sirius Black. Uncle Padfoot did not snatch the cookies. He knows that it is mean to snatch things from other people. He asked Ron and Hannah if they would share, and they said yes."
Harry suddenly cried out, "No, no, no, Paddy snatched them."
With that, he held up a photo of Sirius snatching cookies from Ron and Susan in the backyard and then nomming on them.
Sirius looked sheepishly at Harry, knowing very well that he had jumped over to that part. He held his hands up and said, "Alright, you're right. I snatched cookies from Ron and Hannah and said that if they don't let me have those cookies, I'll eat them instead."
Susan cried out, banging her hammer, "Bad, bad, bad; I sentence you to uh…"
She trailed off, not remembering what to say.
Amelia began mouthing to her, "Time out, just say time out."
But what happened next was very different.
Susan cried out, "To Mummy eating you up!"
All the adults in the living room burst out laughing at those words. Sirius mock gasped and pretended to faint briefly before joining in.
After a while two minutes of laughing, Amelia looked at Sirius mischievously and commanded, "So dear Padfoot, prepare to become my meal. Ask for any last wish before I eat you."
Sirius smilingly raised his hands in surrender and said, "Ok, before you eat me, please eat Susan, Harry, Ron and Hannah."
"NOOOO," All four children screamed out loud and ran upstairs to the playroom.
Remus looked at Sirius seriously and said, "I think you went too far this time Sirius. We're supposed to be preparing Harry for the trial in case he has to speak."
The idea of the court game had been Amelia's. Everyone hoped that it would help Harry prepare for the trial.
June 29th 1984
The day of the trial had finally arrived. This was the day on which the Dursleys would be tried and punished.
Currently, it was 9:45 AM and Sirius, Amelia, Harry and Susan were on their way to the courthouse in London where the trial was to take place, with Sirius driving. Harry and Susan were dressed in cute little black suits with red bow ties. Sirius and Amelia were also dressed in black suits, Sirius' tie being red and Amelia's being yellow. The adults had packed two juice boxes and some berries and nuts just in case.
Amelia spoke, "Sirius, we just need to make a few more turns, and then we'll be there. We need to reach by 10 AM."
Sirius replied, "Got it. The trial starts at 10:30, right?"
Amelia replied, "That's true. Dumbledore's going to be there for sure."
Sirius asked, "If the Dursleys see him, won't they try to put the blame on Dumbledore? After all, he's the one that left Harry with those people."
Amelia replied, "He says he'll figure out something. If we're lucky, the judge will be a squib. Plus, there will be those obliviators we took into confidence, just in case. Luckily, Dennis is good at memory charms. Most importantly, I hope Harry doesn't have to speak, but if he does, then he'll have to face it. We can't just say that it's okay and not let him speak."
Sirius replied, "Whatever must happen must happen. Either way, we'll be ready."
A few minutes later, they reached the courthouse.
After Sirius parked the car, he and Amelia got out and pulled the children out of their car seats.
"Come on love," Amelia said as she set Harry on the ground and brushed his clothes, hair and face. Sirius did the same for Susan.
While Amelia took Harry's and Susan's hands and walked towards the building, Sirius made sure that they had taken everything that they would need and locked the car doors.
Harry and Susan felt slightly scared upon seeing the huge building and held on to Amelia's hands tightly.
They entered the building through a set of double doors, stepping into a large lobby with chandeliers, paintings, statues and a deep blood red carpet.
They walked up to a reception desk at the back of the lobby where there was a young woman and Amelia spoke, "Good morning. We're here for the Black-Bones-Potter vs. Dursleys case at 10:30."
The young woman replied, "Black-Bones-Potter case, that'll be in room no. 108. It'll be straight down the corridor over there." She pointed to a hallway on her left.
"Thank you Ma'am." Amelia replied.
The woman looked at Harry and Susan and cooed, "My, aren't you just too cute you little ones? I hope you have a lovely day."
"Thank you," Harry and Susan replied.
Amelia turned to her kids and said, "Come along."
Harry and Susan smiled and allowed themselves to be led away. As they were walking towards the hallway, Harry suddenly turned around and saw a red haired boy running towards him and calling out, "Harry, Harry!"
Amelia, Sirius and Susan turned around to see the entire Weasley family (minus Bill and Charlie who were at Hogwarts) a little distance away, and the Abbott family as well, coming straight towards them. Hannah had just started running toward them.
As the children went and hugged each other, Molly went and hugged Amelia saying, "Hello Amelia, I'm glad we made it on time."
Amelia hugged Molly back and said, "Molly, I really appreciate you all being here."
Dennis approached Sirius and said, "Well hello Sirius. Are we on time?"
Sirius replied, "Well, it's just five past ten and the trial is supposed to start at 10:30."
Emily said, "That's good. Shall we head down to the courtroom then?"
Amelia replied, "Yes, we'd better."
The entire group made their way down the hallway and stepped into courtroom no. 108, a very large wooden paneled room. Harry's and Susan's eyes were wide with curiosity as they stared at the high ceiling at all the empty benches plus a high table on a low stage at the back.
There, they were met by a court official, a well built man, looking stern and obviously, formally dressed.
"Good morning," the official said, "The trial will be in another twenty minutes. Please follow me to the lounge where you may wait until 10:30. This way please."
He led the group to the northwest corner of the room where there was a small door in the wall. He opened it and the group stepped in.
It was a comfy room with a couple of couches, a coffee table with some magazines, and a basket full of toys plus a play mat in one corner. There was another door in the right wall leading to a bathroom.
Harry, Ron, Susan, Hannah, Fred, and George made a beeline for the toys. They took out some cars and planes and started to play with them.
The official pointed to a coffee machine in another corner and said, "There's a coffee machine in case you need anything to drink. I will call you when it's time."
With that, he exited the lounge.
The adults sat down on the couches. Amelia pulled out a box containing the berries she had packed and opened it. She gave a few to each child, and then Harry proceeded to put his raspberry in Amelia's mouth. Amelia ate the berry and gave him a kiss on his cheek before feeding him a berry. Susan then came over and Amelia fed her a berry and gave her a kiss as well.
A few minutes later, the door burst open and a man dressed in black, with a hooked nose, accompanied by a light brown haired man with a thin moustache, dressed in a grey suit, entered. Harry and Susan got up and cried out, "Uncle Sev! Uncle Moony!"
Snape moved over to them and patted their heads saying, "Hello Harry and Susan." Remus went and hugged them saying, "Hello little ones."
They then moved over to Amelia and Sirius who were now standing up.
Remus hugged Sirius and Amelia and said, "Good to see you Sirius and Amelia."
Sirius hugged Remus and said, "I'm glad you're here Moony. Harry will need all the support he can get.
He then looked at Snape in surprise and exclaimed, "Snape?! I didn't expect you'd be here!"
Snape said, "Well Hello Sirius Black. Of course I'm not going to miss out on this, especially since it's for Harry and against Petunia."
Amelia asked, "You know her?"
Snape replied, "Lily and I grew up together in Cokeworth. As far as I know, Petunia has always been selfish, nasty, vile and vindictive. It's a pity I didn't remember that when I came to your house with Dumbledore."
Sirius said, "I sincerely hope that bi…"
He suddenly stopped, noticing a warning glare directed at him from Amelia.
He then continued, "B… Blubbering baboon goes to jail, along with her tyrant of a husband."
Amelia asked, "Isn't Dumbledore supposed to be coming? Where is he?"
Snape leaned close to her and Sirius and whispered, "He'll be here in disguise. Don't tell any of the children. Here, his name will be Edward Grayson."
Just then, a man with a short brown beard, wearing a grey suit entered.
He spoke, "Greetings, Mr. Black and Ms. Bones. I am Edward Grayson and I will be representing you."
Sirius was about to say something when Edward Grayson raised his hand and whispered, "It's me, Dumbledore. I've altered my appearance for the trial. Please refer to me as Edward Grayson."
Remus nodded and said, "Hello Mr. Grayson. Glad you are here."
Amelia said, "Good to have you here with us."
Just then, the door opened once again and a familiar woman stepped in.
Amelia called out, "Healer Grant! I'm so glad you made it."
The healer, Grant replied, "Sorry if I'm late. The trial is about to start."
Amelia replied, "At least you made it on time."
Just then, the official entered the lounge and announced, "It is 10:30 AM. Please come and take your seats."
Amelia called Harry and Susan saying, "Harry, Susan, come along, it's time."
Harry and Susan went up to their Mummy, and Ron followed them.
"Ron," Amelia asked, "Do you want to sit with us?"
"Harry's my friend!" Ron called out.
"Okay," Amelia said, "Come along. What about Susan? She's your friend too, right?"
Ron replied, "Yes!"
Everyone exited the lounge and into the courtroom which was full of people. On the left side, which was mostly unoccupied, there were quite a few people.
The group went and took their seats in the first and second benches. Amelia, Sirius, Remus, Snape, Harry, and Susan were sitting on the first one. Ron and Percy were sitting right behind Harry, the former insisting that he had to be there for his friend and so had to sit there.
Harry looked to his right, and then, he felt frightened.
For, there on the front bench, sat the Dursleys.
Harry buried his face into Amelia's suit and cried out, "No, no, no, no Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia! Don't leave me!" With that, he burst into tears.
Amelia held the child in her arms and whispered, "Harry my sweet, be brave, I won't ever leave you and go away. It's just that these good people here need to know what that mean aunt and uncle did to you. Don't fret my child, be brave. I'm here. Don't worry. I won't leave you like that."
Harry calmed down slowly and Amelia placed him in between her and Sirius, with Susan on her other side. Snape was sitting on Sirius' other side.
As Amelia was rubbing his back and Harry was calming down, a court official announced, "Silence in the courtroom! Black, Bones and Potter vs. Dursley, the great and honorable Judge Johnson presiding."
A neatly dressed man, afro-British, with glasses and a white wig, entered the room and moved to the Judge's podium. Taking his seat, he banged his gavel and silence spread across the courtroom.
The judge announced, "We have today, the Black-Bones-Potter vs. Dursley case. The parties may give their opening arguments."
Edward Grayson moved to the stand on the aggrieved party's side and spoke, reading from a sheet of paper, "Edward Grayson, representing the aggrieved party. Your honor, jury, we stand here today to fight against a form of evil, child abuse, which Harry James Potter, three years of age, almost four now, has had to endure for two and a half years. Harry James Potter's biological parents, James Potter and Lily Potter were murdered by a terrorist. Shortly afterwards, his godfather Sirius Black was wrongfully imprisoned. Due to this unavailability, the child was sent to live with his only relatives, the Dursleys. Most unfortunately, they turned out to be vile and abusive. They used cruel words towards him and neglected him in favor of their own son. Last month, Ms. Amelia Bones, who works with the authorities and was a friend of the Potters, went to check up on the child. Upon finding out about the child being mistreated, she immediately removed him from the Dursleys and took him under her wing. Soon afterwards, his godfather was found to be innocent and was released. Now, Amelia Bones and Sirius Black both have custody of Harry Potter. What she saw that day when she removed the child greatly shocked her to the core. The words she heard being used, indicate exactly how Mr. and Mrs. Dursley felt about the child. They did not want him, and that is why they mistreated the child."
Judge Johnson nodded and spoke, "Very well."
Turning to the Dursleys' lawyer, a bald stern looking man with a maroon suit with a white shirt and red tie, he said, "Your turn."
The lawyer rose and moved to the defendants' stand. Clearing his throat, he said, "Hewson Dyer representing the Dursleys. Your honor, the child has been through sorrow owing to the deaths of his parents, but not abuse. He was given the best possible care. His arrival upon their doorstep was unannounced. They already had a one year old to look after and were not prepared to take on a second child. They were not informed beforehand. They were not even asked whether they wanted to be the child's guardians. He was simply given to them because they are his only remaining relatives. Still, despite the abruptness of it all, they did whatever they could. They gave him everything. They fed him, clothed him, bathed him, and gave him a place to sleep. The boy was not abused. He was quite naughty and had to be reprimanded on and off. They scolded him whenever it was necessary, but they absolutely did not abuse him. Overall, he was provided the best care possible."
With that, Mr. Dyer returned to his seat.
The judge turned to Grayson and spoke, "Mr. Grayson, your first witness please."
Grayson called out, "I call to the stand, Amelia Bones."
Amelia stood up whispering, "Harry, I have to go speak now. Sirius, Snape, just hold him."
Harry felt worried when Amelia got up, but then Snape came over and placed Harry on his lap while Sirius placed Susan on his.
As Harry watched Amelia going to speak, Snape squeezed his left hand.
Amelia took her place in the witness's stand.
The judge spoke, "Do you pledge to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you God?"
Amelia replied, "I do."
The response came, "You may begin."
Grayson said, "First of all, I would like to make it clear that Ms. Bones works with the police."
The judge replied, "Yes, I am aware of it. Ms. Bones, you removed Harry Potter from the Dursleys on the fourth of May. Could you please tell us what happened that day?"
Amelia began, "I am here to speak, not as someone associated with the authorities, but as a mother in all but blood."
She took a deep breath before continuing, "Harry Potter's parents, James Potter and Lily Potter were my friends. After their murders, I wanted to look after Harry as Sirius Black was unavailable. However, I could not as Sirius Black was the only guardian who had been appointed, and the Dursleys were relatives. On the fourth of May this year, I went to check up on Harry. I found out that he was being abused. First, I saw him through the kitchen window, being made to cook eggs without an adult standing with him. He burnt his hand and when his aunt finally came and treated it, she did so with utter disdain. Later on, he was weeding the garden while his cousin was playing. The cousin went over to him, trampled the flowers, beat up the child, and then blamed it all on Harry. Mrs. Dursley, who heard this, slapped Harry and yelled at him. When Harry tried to explain himself and hug her, she cruelly pushed him away, telling him that he did not deserve to be hugged. Throughout that day, I saw them labeling him as a freak and forcing him to do chores which a child at his age should not be doing. Finally, during the night, I heard Harry crying. His uncle came and yelled at him for disturbing his sleep, and when he pleaded saying that he was sorry, he was pinned down to the floor and Mr. Dursley was about to hit him. At that point, I realized that I could not let him suffer anymore. I broke in and pushed Mr. Dursley away before taking Harry away from that place."
The judge asked, "Can you describe Harry Potter's state?"
Amelia replied, "He was kept in a cupboard with spiders and given less food than what he should be eating now. He told me that his relatives had told him that no one would ever love him and that his parents hated him. Is this right? No. Also, he was afraid. He didn't know what to choose when it came to eating because his uncle and aunt had not let him choose. Also, he had a few nightmares because of the trauma he underwent. He was afraid of being abandoned. He needs love and care and I am determined to give that to him."
The judge said, "Thank you Ms. Bones. Do you have anything else you wish to say?"
Amelia replied, "The only thing I regret is not having taken him away sooner."
With that, there was pin drop silence in the courtroom.
A few moments later, the judge announced, "Thank You. Mr. Dyer, your turn."
Dyer turned to Amelia and said, "If you were really spying on the Dursleys the way you were, would it not be trespassing? Does this not count as being illegal?"
Grayson called out, "Objection, your honor, Amelia works with the police."
The judge ordered, "Cease and desist. As stated by Mr. Grayson, Amelia works with the police. Technically, she had every right to do what she did. After all, it was an investigation. Now, do you have any more?"
Dyer called out, "Yes sir, I call the first witness, Ms. Marjorie Dursley to the stand."
Marge who was sitting with Vernon and Petunia got up and moved to take her position in the witness's stand.
Marge began, "I would like to start by saying that my brother Vernon Dursley has always had a heart of gold. I know him, and I know that he would never ever abuse a child. When the Potter boy was left to him and his wife to take care of, they took him in. Many would have just sent him off to an orphanage instead. My brother and my sister in law gave the child what he needed, food, clothing and a place to sleep. However, the boy was very naughty. He went out of his way to play huge pranks on us and cause us trouble, and he often had to be reprimanded and given time outs. That is not abuse. In fact, that boy has often been telling lies, and I declare that the idea of the child being abused is a lie. Because my brother and sister in law, with hearts full of gold, out of the goodness of their hearts, gave him everything they needed, and yet…"
"HOW DARE YOU!" a voice rang out, frightening the Dursleys.
Everyone turned around to see Molly who had just yelled at Marge, standing up and glaring at her.
Molly turned to the judge and spoke, "Your honor, I, Molly Weasley request permission to approach the stand."
The judge looked at her fierce expression and replied, "Alright, permission granted."
Amelia made way for Molly as she approached the stand and spoke, "Your honor, they never gave him the thing that Harry needed the most, love and care. Last month, the criminal who had framed Harry's godfather was caught. That day, we had all taken our children to a fair. Harry, Amelia and Susan had also come along. We ran into the Dursleys. And Petunia openly admitted that though Harry's mother, her sister was quite talented, which made her parents proud, Petunia saw her as nothing but a freak. It is quite clear that Petunia Dursley was jealous of Mrs. Lily Potter for being so successful. She said those words, 'Of course, you had to be as abnormal, freakish, and then they got blown up and we got landed with you!' Doesn't that imply that she saw that poor child as nothing but a burden? And for that matter, she went on to call him a wretch. What sort of mother does this to a three year old child?"
Petunia cried out in terror, "I said no such thing!"
Molly yelled at her, "HOW DARE YOU DENY IT!"
The judge begged, "Mrs. Weasley, please…"
"HOW DARE YOU ABUSE THAT POOR CHILD AND MAKE HIM FEEL UNWORTHY OF HIMSELF!" Molly yelled, "YOU CALLED HIM NAMES SIMPLY BECAUSE YOUR SISTER WAS MORE SUCCESFUL! YOU YOURSELF MADE THAT CLEAR AT THE FAIR, AND YET YOU TRIED TO MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOU'RE SO GOOD-HEARTED! WELL, I SAY, YOU ARE HEARTLESS!"
Arthur moved to the stand and placed a hand on his wife's shoulder.
Molly stopped and spoke to the judge, "I apologize. I'm just angry."
The judge said, "Apology accepted. Unless you have anything else to say, please step down from the stand. Ms. Marjorie Dursley, are you finished?"
Marge replied affirmatively and stepped down.
The judge called out, "Mr. Grayson, your next witness please."
Grayson called out, "I call to the stand, Dr. Grant."
The healer Grant, who had been there for Harry's checkup stood from her seat and moved to the stand, even as Arthur escorted Molly back to her seat.
The conversation began.
"Ms. Grant. It is known to me that you performed a physical evaluation of Harry, less than forty-eight hours after his removal from the Dursleys. Is this true?"
"Yes your honor, according to my records, Harry James Potter visited on the sixth of May."
"Could you please describe his conditions?"
"He seemed to be afraid, not frisky like other children. I measured his height, which was around three to three and a half feet, which is alright, but he weighed only around twenty pounds, and a child of his age should typically have thirty five pounds. It seems he was malnourished."
"Did you find anything else, such as belt marks?"
"There were bruises, but no belt marks. But those bruises looked like they had been made recently. And there were quite a lot for that matter."
"Is there anything else of concern?"
"No."
"Thank you," the judge said, "That's all I have to ask. Mr. Dyer, your witness."
Dyer replied, "I have no questions."
The judge then ordered, "Very well then. Mr. Grayson, bring in the next witness please."
Grayson spoke, "I call to the stand, Harry James Potter."
Snape, who was holding Harry, got up and walked him over to the stand, holding his hands and saying, "There we go Harry, it's alright. He's a nice man. He just needs to know what that mean uncle and aunt did to you."
Harry looked terrified as he was led up to the stand, closer to the Dursleys.
He saw Aunt Marge giving him a cruel look, and that was it.
He burst into tears.
Amelia rushed over to Harry and kneeling down to his level, she hugged him and whispered, "Baby, don't cry, be brave. I won't let anything happen to you. I won't let anyone take you away from me. They won't touch you. I'm here. Come on."
A minute later, Harry calmed down, and looking at the judge, he held Amelia's hand and walked up the witness's stand.
Mr. Grayson knelt down to Harry's level and said, "Hello young one. My name is Edward. You can call me Uncle Edward if that's fine with you. The man sitting up there, the judge just needs to ask you a few questions. The Dursleys are in trouble. Not you. Will you promise not to lie?"
Harry nodded and said, "Yes."
Mr. Grayson said, "Very well. Your honor, he is ready."
Harry looked up at the judge and shyly waved.
The judge waved back.
And then, to the aggrieved party's surprise, he spoke, "Owing to the specialty of this case, Mr. Harry James Potter has two options. One, he will answer the questions asked to him. Two, he may instead provide his memories for analysis. A pensive is ready for that purpose. The memories will be displayed on the screen. Ms. Bones, please explain it to him."
Amelia turned to Harry and said, "He's saying all you have to do is think of something that happened when you were living with Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia. He wants you tell him if you want to do that."
Harry looked at his Mummy and said, "Okay."
He then looked at the judge and said, "Okay.
The judge said, "Very well, Ms. Bones, please extract ten memories of his time with the Dursleys and place them into the pensive that is in front of the podium."
And that's when Amelia noticed a pensive on a stand that was in front of the podium.
Slowly, gently and carefully, she extracted ten memories of his stay with the Dursleys, including the one where Harry had tried to hug Petunia and had been pushed away, and placed them into the pensive before returning to her seat with Harry in her arms.
The memories were projected onto a screen, and many were horrified to witness what was being played. The cruel words, slaps for no fault, all of it made Harry bury his face into his Mummy's bosom and cry. Susan was horrified and cried into Sirius' chest. Snape looked on with his mouth open in horror even as he squeezed Harry's hand. Even Percy and the twins were crying.
There was hardly a dry eye in the courtroom.
Finally, it ended and there was pin drop silence in the courtroom.
After a minute, someone among those that had been selected for jury duty called out, "Your honor, we declare those Dursleys to be guilty."
The judge spoke, "Very well, Mr. Vernon Dursley and Mrs. Petunia Dursley, you are both found to be guilty of abusing a child. I therefore sentence you to six years imprisonment."
Vernon stood up and yelled, "THIS IS A MISTAKE! YOU CAN'T MEAN IT!"
The judge firmly replied, "It isn't a mistake. What you did however is beyond being a mistake. It is something that is inhuman."
Petunia cried out, "I have a four year old son! Who will take care of him?"
There came the reply, "Custody of Dudley Dursley will be given to the closest relatives, which will mean Vernon's sister, Ms. Marjorie Dursley."
Policemen entered the courtroom to take Vernon and Petunia away. Petunia screamed and cried even as Vernon went on yelling in rage.
As he was being led away, he turned his hateful eyes on Harry, who happened to look at him.
And then, to everyone's horror, he suddenly broke free and lunged towards Harry.
Even as Amelia gasped and held her children tightly to her, Sirius stood up and readied himself to defend his family.
However, someone else struck the first blow.
Vernon Dursley found himself on the floor, on his back, with an injured nose, and pain in his guts where he had been struck.
He looked up and saw a man with sallow skin, greasy black hair and a hooked nose looking fiercely at him.
Snape who had punched Vernon snarled, "Don't you dare harm Lily's child!"
Petunia looked at the figure and recognized him. She cried out, "You, that awful Snape boy!"
Snape looked at Petunia and thundered, "Petunia, so vile you are. I should have known that you would go so far as to hurt an innocent child because of your jealousy towards Lily. James certainly would never have done what you did to Harry. I hope you enjoy your time in prison, Petunia. Police, please take those Dursleys away."
Even as Dudley screamed and cried, being held by his Aunt Marge, Petunia and Vernon were led away by the police, out of the courtroom.
A minute later, only a few people were left, the aggrieved party, Marge and Dudley.
Grayson was talking with Amelia. He said, "We've won. Thos Dursleys have been sent to jail."
Amelia exclaimed, "I had prepared Harry to speak, but I'm glad he didn't have to. But how did the judge know about memories and pensives?"
Grayson answered, "You see, he is actually a squib."
Remus said, "So that's why. That explained everything."
Just then, Marge came up to them and looking cruelly at Harry and pointing a finger in his face, she yelled, "You little runt! It's all because of you, that my good brother who took you in is now in jail! And Dudders has to be without his parents for years you thieving lying little runt!"
Amelia stepped in between Harry and Marge and hissed, "Your 'good' brother? Your brother is an abusive bastard who condones cruelty towards an innocent child, his own relative for that matter! Harry was kept in a cupboard! And he was starved. I bet you knew and did nothing about it! Speak that way about my son again, and I'll kill you!"
Marge was taken aback by the venom in Amelia's voice and stepped back.
Sirius put a hand on Amelia's shoulder and said, "Amy, let's go."
Amelia turned to Sirius and picking up Harry and Susan, who were hugging each other protectively, she said, "It's all over now. Now we can go and do something fun. First though, we'll need to eat."
Sirius held out his arms and said, "Amy, I can carry them. Let me at least carry one."
Harry turned to his godfather and stretched out his arms.
Sirius took harry from Amelia and holding the toddler close, he whispered, "Shhh, baby, I love you Prongslet."
And then he heard Harry whisper, "I love you, Daddy."
Sirius felt his heart warm up at that. Of course, he wouldn't let Harry forget James. And he wouldn't, because for him, James was his Dada.
Even as Sirius basked in affection, Amelia smiled and suggested, "Well, how about some pizza now?"
