Sigrid's Dream

One afternoon, Sigrid arrived at Owan the oil rig with her regular supplies for the big oil rig. Today, it was a new set of drilling tools. "Hello!" smiled Sigrid. "Hello, Sigrid!" hollered Owan in his loud voice. "Ok," Sigrid replied with a giggle, "I'm here! You don't have to yell!"

"Oh, I'm not yelling!" Owan boomed, "I'm just happy to see you!" Sigrid knew that Owan couldn't help himself. "Anyway," said Sigrid, "I've brought your drilling tools. All set to be unloaded for you."

"Great!" said Owan. "Then maybe," thought Sigrid to herself, but didn't think of it anymore. After Owan collected his new drilling tools from Sigrid, she returned to the Big Harbour. At that moment, Sigrid saw Emily moving Bobby barge across the harbour with a load of crates. "Wow," thought Sigrid, "I wish I could do that."

For years, Sigrid always wanted to be a tugboat, so that she could push and pull ship and barges and do all the things a tugboat normally does. "I wish," thought Sigrid, "I could be a tugboat."

Sigrid had no jobs to do for the rest of the day, so she decided to float around the harbour. "Well, today is a nice day," she thought, "Maybe I'll go find Emily." So she did. Emily had just finished docking Caroline and was leaving to refuel her gas tank.

"Oh, hey, Sigrid," said Emily the moment she saw her. "Hey, Emily," said Sigrid. "What are you doing?" asked Emily. "Nothing," answered Sigrid, "I did my usual jobs, and now, I'm not doing anything." "I see," said Emily, "Taking a break?" "Well, kind of," answered Sigrid, "I'm just floating around." "I know," said Emily.

"So how did Caroline behaved?" asked Sigrid. "She behaved all right," answered Emily, "Way better than the last time." "What was she carrying?" asked Sigrid. "A new set of tugboat engine parts," answered Emily. "Oh, I see," replied Sigrid, "Needed an upgrade." "Possibly," Sigrid agreed.

"Yeah, it is important to keep up to date with our equipment," Emily said, "Foduck says it's important." "I see," said Sigrid, "I understand." However, Sigrid couldn't think of anything else to say. "Well, I'm at the fueling depot now," said Emily, "You're welcome to continue our conversation."

"No thanks," replied Sigrid, "But it was nice talking to you." "All right," Emily said as she put the fueling hose in her engine, "Nice talking to you, too."

"See you later," said Sigrid as she set off. "I wonder what's on Sigrid's mind?" thought Emily. A few minutes later, Sigrid faced the entrance of the Great Big Harbour. Sigrid floated there for hours, staring out at the setting sun. "I wonder," thought Sigrid. "Wonder what?" a voice said. Sigrid saw it was Bedford the bell buoy.

"Oh, just thinking," replied Sigrid. "Isn't the setting sun wonderful?" asked Bedford, "I always watch it." "I know," replied Sigrid, "You always stay in one place." "True," replied Bedford. "And all I do is bring Owan his regular supplies," said Sigrid. "You wanted to be a tugboat, right?" asked Bedford. "Yes," answered Sigrid.

"I see," said Bedford, remembering the time when Sigrid tried to tow Bedford and ended up pushing him away in her wake. But now, the sun had set. "It's getting late," said Sigrid, "I'd better return to my dock." "All right," said Bedford as Sigrid turned to go, "Good night."

Soon enough it was nighttime. The tugboats returned to their dock and everyone else returned to their docks as well. So did Sigrid. "If only I could be a tugboat," thought Sigrid, "I would really want to be a tugboat." Sigrid ended up falling asleep with the words "Want to be a tugboat" repeating in her mind over and over again.

Surprisingly, it became morning and Sigrid woke up as usual. But to her, everything looks different. "This is weird," Sigrid said at once. It doesn't look like the Great Big Harbour she knows and lives in.

The buildings look different. The boats look different. And even the bridge known as Benjamin Bridge isn't Benjamin Bridge at all.

Sigrid was confused. "What happened?" she asked. "Morning!" said an unknown voice. Sigrid jumped in surprise. "Who said that?" she asked. "You don't know me?" the voice said, feeling disappointed. Sigrid turned to see that the voice came from a building whom she'd never seen before. "Now do you remember me?" the building said.

"I think," answered Sigrid in a confused tone of voice. "Sigrid tugboat," said the building. "Sigrid tugboat?" repeated Sigrid. Sigrid look at herself in the reflection the water and she couldn't believe her eyes! "I got soft, squeaky, green bumpers!" she said, "On my hull!" Sigrid couldn't believe her eyes!

"I'm wearing a hat, I got two strong engines, I got towropes, I got radars, I got two lifeboats for safety reasons and I got a strong hull! I'm a tugboat!" Sigrid declared. "Ok," said the building. Sigrid turned and saw a fleet of tugboats whom she'd never met before. All woke up and turned to face their boss.

"That's not the Dispatcher that the tugboats know," Sigrid said about the boss. The other tugboats left for work. The boss then said to Sigrid, "Pulling ships and towing barges all day." Sigrid couldn't believe what she had heard.

"I can do it now that I'm a tugboat!" Sigrid immediately set off for work. Everything looked different to her, but that didn't concern Sigrid at all. She was excited to start work as a tugboat.

But she sometimes thought to herself, "How did I become a tugboat in the first place?" But Sigrid started her first job, which was to move a barge. Sigrid never met this barge, ever, but she started the job anyway.

The moment she tied her towropes onto the barge, a voice called out, "Shuttle steel." Sigrid saw that the dock had talked to her. "Ok, I know what to do," said Sigrid. "Good luck," the dock said as Sigrid started her work. She found it easy.

"This is fun! And easy!" "Of course it is," said the barge as Sigrid cruised under the bridge. Soon enough, Sigrid arrived at a warehouse and got ready to pick up the load of steel, only to have the steel magically appear in the barge. "There you go," said the warehouse. "Thank you," replied Sigrid as she set off for her destination.

"I've heard of fast unloading," mumbled Sigrid, "But this is ridiculous!" Nonetheless, Sigrid delivered the load of steel to a construction site. After she dropped off the loads, Sigrid turned to leave for the next load.

But the moment she turned away, she heard a rapid-clattering sound. Sigrid turned back to see that the construction site had become a building. "Thank you, Sigrid," said the building. "You're welcome," replied Sigrid as she left, "Talk about rapid construction, but that was way too fast!"

For the next 45 minutes, Sigrid delivered more steel around the harbour, and instantly, the loads of steel became new buildings everywhere she unloaded them.

"Something tells me that this isn't really the Great Big Harbour," thought Sigrid, but she was having so much fun being a tugboat. After Sigrid made her last delivery of steel, she left the barge and set out on her next job, moving ships.

First, she brought in one ship with some of the other tugboats. I'm glad to be helping all of you out!" said Sigrid. The other tugboats replied, "Thank you, Sigrid. You're the best!"

"Maybe so," thought Sigrid. The moment the ship was docked, Sigrid turned to see that the other tugboats had vanished. "Huh?" thought Sigrid, "Where they'd all go?" Then a voice interrupted her thought.

"Thank you, Sigrid!" It was the ship and it's containers. "Yes, thank you very much, Sigrid! We knew you could do it." "I guess so," replied Sigrid, "But what happened to everyone else?"

No one answered her question, so Sigrid decided to bring in more ships. She did the job very well. But to Sigrid's surprise, as she brought in more ships, more docks magically appeared for them. "I knew these weren't here before," thought Sigrid as she docked one ship. But Sigrid didn't bother to ask any more questions, so she continued on her work.

After two hours of ship work, she decided to shift cargo around the barges that have containers magically appear on them every time she set out with her job.

As she did so, she noticed at some of the building started to look strange. "Ok this is getting unusual," thought Sigrid. But she knew that nothing scary would happen as she continued on with her works.

After moving barges, she did other tugboat work, including organizing a set of marker buoys.

Sigrid did this job, but faster than it normally would. "Those marker buoys sure know how to set things straight in only a few seconds," said Sigrid. Then, Sigrid towed in a ferry, which had broken its rudder. But the moment she left it at the repair dock and turned to go, Sigrid saw the very same ferry leaving. "My rudder is better now!" it called. "Man everything is fast here!" thought Sigrid.

Next, Sigrid helped another boat to remove an underwater boulder. Sigrid knew it would be impossible, but she decided to help out nonetheless. However, when she tied her towropes onto the boulder, she instantly removed it.

"Wow!" thought Sigrid, "I didn't know I had super strength!" Sigrid continued on with her jobs in this strange, bizarre harbour. But later, the day had already ended. Sigrid had finished her last job with a fuel barge and decided to call it a day. But just as she got back to her dock, the boss called her out.

"I want you to take out one last ship," he said. "Sure thing," said Sigrid and she left to meet the ship. It was resting in a part of the harbour, which Sigrid knew had never existed the whole day she had been in this strange, expanding harbour.

But Sigrid decided to take it out nonetheless. "I've been bringing in ships into this strange harbour all day," thought Sigrid, "Let me take one ship out." So she did. She brought the ship safely out of the harbour.

"There you go," said Sigrid, "Safe trip." "Thank you very much," said the ship. Sigrid turned to return to the harbour, only to find that she's a lot further away from it than she thought. "I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be this further away," thought Sigrid.

She turned back to the ship one more time and saw something surprisingly. The ship disappeared over the horizon, in light-speed style. "That's impossible!" cried Sigrid, "This is one weird place."

Sigrid decided to turn back to the harbour, but on her way back, something happened to her. "What's this?" she asked, "I'm lifting out of the water!"

She then turned back and saw two huge angel wings emerging out from her deck. "This is impossible!" she cried, but she decided to not say anything else about the strange things that had happened to her all day. Instead, she enjoyed flying above the water.

"I can fly!" said Sigrid, "I can fly!" Sigrid flew higher and higher above the water. "This is so much fun!" shouted Sigrid. For one moment, she looked down and she saw the other tugboats. "Guys!" cried Sigrid, "I'm flying!" "Well done, Sigrid!" the other tugboats said, "You were a great help!" Sigrid felt happy.

From her height, Sigrid got a wonderful view of the harbour. It looked fantastic to her. "This is the best moment I've ever had," thought Sigrid as she continued flying in the air towards the harbour. Her words echoed in her mind as everything faded to black.

Soon enough, it was morning and Sigrid woke up. "That was fun," she yawned a great big yawn. Sigrid looked at her reflection in the water and saw that she's still a supply ship. She looked around and saw everything was normal.

Her dock and the whole harbour. "The Great Big Harbour," Sigrid said, looking around. She saw that Benjamin Bridge is still Benjamin Bridge. "It was only a dream," Sigrid said at last, "But it was a wonderful dream!" Sigrid left her dock and floated up to Benjamin. "Benjamin!" cried Sigrid, "You're you!"

"Huh?" groaned Benjamin Bridge, "What's going on, Sigrid?" "It's a long story!" said Sigrid as she turned to go. Then she saw Phillip and Filmore starting their trips for the day.

"Morning Sigrid," they both said at once. "Hi, Phillip and Filmore!" called Sigrid, "I recognize you too!" "Really?" replied Phillip and Filmore at once. "Yes!" said Sigrid as she left. "She can tell us apart?" Phillip and Filmore said together.

"Bayswater, Barrington, Constance, Northumberland, Digby, Millie, Fundy, Pearl and Petra!" Sigrid said excitedly, "Everyone I know! Including Lily, Donald Dock, Dispatcher, Chimey and Shediac! Everyone is here!" "Why is Sigrid so super excited?" asked Digby.

Sigrid decided to go out and meet Owan out on the ocean. Just then, she saw Emily out near the harbour entrance. She had just finished taking Inverness out. "Take care," said Emily as she led the ship out. "Emily!" Sigrid called out. "Morning, Sigrid," replied Emily, "Nice day, isn't it?" "Yes!" agreed Sigrid, "You won't believe what I went though last night?"

"What?" asked Emily. "I was dreaming that I was a tugboat!" answered Sigrid. "Well, I'm sure you had a wonderful dream," said Emily. "I want to explain it to Owan," said Sigrid, "Come on, let's go meet him now!" "Okay," agreed Emily. Sigrid took Emily to see Owan the oil rig. "Morning!" hollered Owan. "Yeah," agreed Emily, "Morning."

"I had a great dream last night!" said Sigrid, "I was a tugboat and did all the things a tugboat does." "Well, that's jim-dandy of you!" replied Owan. "Although the harbour was strange and different," said Sigrid, "But I had fun nonetheless!" "I'm sure you did!" replied Owan. "But the best part about it is that I was flying!" said Sigrid in an excited tone of voice.

"I'm sure it was," smiled Emily.

So Sigrid told Owan and Emily about her fantastic, yet strange dream about being a tugboat. That was a dream that Sigrid will never forget for the rest of her life.
