Journey

It started out like any other day in the Great Big Harbour. But for Theodore, it will be the start of a big adventure. "A few days ago, I was given my first official assignment out on the open ocean," Theodore thought to himself, "And I'm going to do it." Later that morning, Theodore prepared to depart for his first ever ocean job.

The other tugboats had already set out for their own jobs. Theodore, of course, stayed behind. "Theodore," said the Dispatcher. "Yes, sir?" Theodore responded. "This is your first job across the ocean," the Dispatcher explained, "So things may look strange to you at first, but I know you'll learn it well once you get to know your place."

"I understand," replied Theodore, "I know what to do." "You'll receive further instructions when you arrive at your destination," The Dispatcher concluded, "That is all I'll tell you. I wish you good luck, Theodore." "Thank you," Theodore replied.

A few minutes later, Theodore left his dock and faced towards the ocean. Theodore stopped for a moment. Theodore turned his engine on to full power and he set off. He first stopped by the harbour entrance to talk to Bedford. "Hey, Theodore," Bedford called out. "Bedford!" Theodore replied, "I'm going out across the ocean for the first time ever!"

"Yes, I know," said Bedford excitedly, "I wish you good luck on your adventure!" "Well," Theodore replied, "Thank you." "Will you tell me all about your adventures when you come home?" asked Bedford. "I will," answered Theodore, "But I must be off now. Goodbye, Bedford." Theodore continued on.

"Bye," Bedford said to Theodore as Theodore continued on. Theodore then met Blandford on his way further out. "I wish you good luck, Theodore," Blandford told Theodore. "Thanks," Theodore replied. "Good bye! Theodore!" A voice yelled. Theodore knew who it belongs to: Owan the oil rig.

"Oh, Owan," Theodore though, "Well, goodbye, Owan and Blandford." "Bye," said Blandford. "And goodbye, Owan!" Theodore yelled. "I'll see you again when you return!" Owan hollered as Theodore headed off towards the open ocean. Owan and Blandford continued watching Theodore until he was out of sight.

Hours later, Theodore found himself out in the open ocean. "Not a single piece of land in sight," thought Theodore. Theodore was told to go straight ahead to his destination, which is the United Kingdom. "It's this way," Theodore said, "Here comes Theodore the Victorious!"

It took Theodore nearly all day to reach a large harbour in the United Kingdom. "Wow!" Theodore thought as he arrived, "I made it here! What should I do first?"

"How about, get on the other side!" called a British fishing trawler. "Oh," replied Theodore, "And yikes!" Theodore got out of the way of a speedboat. "That was close!" Theodore exclaimed, "I'd better make a good start." Theodore decided to meet with the other tugboats. Of course, British tugboats.

"Hello," Theodore said, trying to speak in a British accent, but failed. The other tugboats replied, "Hey, Hello, Top of the morning, and Good day." Then one said, "That was a pathetic attempt of trying to talk like us." Theodore felt embarrassed about that. "I'm not going to talk like that again," Theodore thought.

Theodore decided to meet the director of the tugboat fleet. "Hello, my name is Theodore," Theodore introduced himself, "I was sent here from the Great Big Harbour, all the way across the ocean! I was told to work here as my first ocean job." "Very well," said the director, "Standby for ocean liner at 9:00."

"Oh, ok then," Theodore said, "Theodore the ocean tug, waiting for an ocean liner."

A few minutes later, however, the tugboats set out to bring in the ocean liner. "Why are they leaving early?" asked Theodore. "Because its time for bring the ocean liner in," the director answered. "But I thought-" Theodore said before the director interrupted him.

"It is now 9:00 pm," he said, "You'd better get going." "Right sir!" Theodore answered, and he set off. "Time is sure faster here than back in the Big Harbour," Theodore thought. Then Theodore saw a familiar sight. "The Queen Stephanie!" Theodore thought. He was right.

The ocean liner that the tugboats were going to bring in is the Queen Stephanie. The Queen Stephanie was surprised to see Theodore in the British harbour. "Theodore," she called, "Is that you?" "Yes," answered Theodore, "It's me!" "What a surprise to see you way out here!" The Queen Stephanie continued on.

"Yes, I'm an official ocean tug now!" Theodore explained, "And I'm on my first ocean assignment, well, actually, it's an assignment in the harbour. For the moment." "Theodore," called one of the boats, "Time!" "Oh, excuse me," Theodore said, "I got to help bring you in." Theodore was told to pull the big ocean liner from the front.

"Here we go," said Theodore. Like normal, Theodore, with the other tugboats safely towed the big ocean liner into an ocean liner dock. The job was done in no time at all. "There you go, Queen Stephanie," said Theodore, "You're docked now."

"Thank you, Theodore," The Queen Stephanie replied, "Have a good night." "I will," said Theodore. After that, Theodore and the other tugboats went to sleep. "All right," Theodore said, "Time to get some shuteye." He then fell asleep.

Next morning, Theodore was still sleeping, until- "Theodore! Time to wake up!" Theodore was immediately woken up. It was the director. "Yes, sitting, I mean, sir!" Theodore corrected himself. "Your job today is to go out and bring in ships, waiting outside," the director explained to Theodore.

"Oh, ok, then," Theodore replied. "It is your first ocean job, isn't it?" the director explained. "Yes, sir," Theodore answered. "Then it's a good start," the director said, "After that, you will do more ocean jobs around Europe."

"I will," Theodore said, leaving, "And I already have made a start!" Theodore was about to head out into the open ocean again when he decided to stop and talk to Queen Stephanie. "Queen Stephanie?" Theodore called. "Huh?" The Queen Stephanie responded, "Oh, Theodore. How are you doing?"

"Doing good!" Theodore said, "Yesterday, I've traveled across the ocean and I've saw lots of fishes and whales. I've even saw a really fast fish!" "Well, that's nice," The Queen Stephanie said, "I hope you see many more wonderful things like I have, traveling across the open ocean."

"I will," Theodore replied, "I am having a great journey!" "I'm sure you are," The Queen Stephanie replied, "Good luck." "I will!" Theodore said, turning to leave. "I wish you good luck on your first ocean journey," The Queen Stephanie said as Theodore left from her sight. Theodore knew this would be a big journey for him, working in European waters.
