Foduck And Baddeck's Buoy Duties
One morning, the tugboats were getting their orders. "All right," The Dispatcher began, "Time for the jobs. Theodore, you are to take 4 small cargo ships out to the ocean today." "Yes, sir," Theodore replied.
"Emily, you are to move barges and Pearl will give you instructions," The Dispatcher continued, "Specific instruction. You'll see what I mean. Hank and George, you are to take out a giant supertanker together." "Right!" George said. "Ok," said Hank. "You may start now," The Dispatcher said at last.
Once the tugboats received their jobs, they set out, except for Theodore, who decided to stay behind for a moment. Finally, the Dispatcher spoke to Foduck, the only tugboat who hasn't gotten a job yet. "Sir!" Foduck answered. "Today, Foduck," the Dispatcher told the safety tug, "You'll be inspecting bell buoys."
"Right, sir," Foduck replied, "I'll do the job." "With Baddeck," the Dispatcher added. "Ah," Foduck said. "Wow," said Theodore, "You got a job with Baddeck!" "Right that," Foduck replied, "Has been a while since he visited the Great Big Harbour." "Of course," smiled Theodore.
"All right, Theodore," The Dispatcher concluded, "You have your own job to do now. You may talk to Baddeck and Foduck when you're finished." "Right, sir," Theodore replied. The two tugboat then left for their jobs.
A few minutes later, Foduck arrived at the Great Big Harbour entrance where he met a familiar boat. "Baddeck!" Foduck called out to the boat. "Why, hello, Foduck," Baddeck said. "It's been a long time," said Foduck.
"Yes," said Baddeck, "Since, well, never mind." "Oh, ok," said Foduck, "Well, perhaps we could exchange stories and do our jobs." "Right to think that way, Baddeck replied, "Let's begin." And so, the two began their jobs.
First, they inspected Bedford. "Why hello, Bedford," said Baddeck. "Hello," said Bedford, "Nice to see you again, Baddeck." "And it is a pleasure to see you again," Baddeck replied. "Uh, sure it is," Foduck agreed, "All right, let's get you check out now."
"Okey-dokey," Bedford replied. And thus, Foduck examined Bedford after Baddeck lifted him out of the water. "No rust," Foduck and Baddeck said together. After further inspection, Baddeck placed Bedford back into the water. "Thanks, old friend," Bedford said to Baddeck. "No problem," Baddeck replied, "Old friend." "Glad that you're best friends, Foduck said to the two, "And you're in perfect condition."
"Thanks," said Bedford. "All clear," said Foduck, "I meant to say you're all right, Bedford. "Right," Bedford agreed. And the two left Bedford as Theodore started to tow Louise out to sea.
Next, Baddeck and Foduck went out into the ocean to see Blandford. "Why hello," Blandford called out to the two boats. "Hello," said Baddeck, "We're here to check on you." And so the two did. "Nothing serious," said Foduck as he checked out Blandford.
After checking Blandford out, the two then returned to the Great Big Harbour. "So," said Baddeck, "I can see that Bedford and Blandford are doing well. So we're going back to check on more buoys? Right?" "Yep," Foduck answered.
They were just passing George and Hank, as they finished docking the giant supertanker. "They sure are having a good time," said George. "Right," Hank and Petra agreed. Later on, Foduck and Baddeck inspected two more buoys. Well, identical buoys, like Bingham and Blankston. "Uh, what's the story behind Blankston?" Baddeck asked Foduck.
"Who knows?" Foduck answered. After that, the two inspected more bell buoys around the harbour. Many were in perfect condition. But one bell buoy had a rusty anchor chain. It was so rusted that when Baddeck lifter her out of the water, the chain literally fell apart.
"We'd better get this buoy to the repair yards," said Foduck. "You've read my mind," Baddeck said, "You must be a psychic." Meanwhile, Emily, who was towing Guysborough the garbage barge was nearby. It is her turn to move the grumpy garbage barge today. "I hate psychics!" Guysborough growled. "Oh well," said Emily.
Before it was sunset, both Baddeck and Foduck had finished their jobs for the day. "That was a lot of fun," said Foduck. "We should work together again sometime," said Baddeck. "Right," said Foduck. "That's what we should do," said Baddeck, "And do you know why?"
"Why?" asked Foduck, but Baddeck didn't answer, until they got close to Bedford buoy. "It's because we're friends," Baddeck said. "Right," said Foduck. "And as best friends," Baddeck went on, I think we should finish this day by watching the sun set."
"Agreed," said Foduck and that's what they did. "Thanks to all of you," said Bedford. "You're welcome, friend," smiled Baddeck, "Anyway, what's the story behind Blankston? I'm curious."
