An: hi everyone, and welcome back to Standing Against the Darkness. In this chapter we will see the second chapter of the tome of eternal darkness, and we'll also get a glimps at how I intend to split up the points of view in the story. Anyway, on with the chapter.

3: The Binding of the Corpse God

The next day Jasmine was eating breakfast when Ron sat down beside her.

"So, Jas" he said while piling food onto his plate. "Did you try to enter the tournament?"

Jasmine watched in revulsion as Ron stuffed his face. "For your information Ron, no I didn't try to enter the tournament. I have had enough life defying adventures to last me a lifetime."

Ron leers at Jasmine. "Oh, come on Jas. Wouldn't you like the chance. to be the champion for Hogwarts?" Ron's eyes gained a faraway look. "Think of all that prize money."

Hermione shrugs as she sits down on the other side of jasmine. "doesn't matter now does it? It's not like they'll now call for a fourth champion. Not when the goblet has gone out."

Jasmine nods. "And I wouldn't want to be the champion for Hogwarts anyway. I've got enough to deal with as it is."

Hermione looks at Jas with curiosity. "what's going on?"

Jasmine shrugs. "I don't think I'm able to tell you. All I know is it has something to do with my family."

Ron looks up at the food he's eating. "Come on Jas," he says giving Jasmine a leer. "Can't you tell us about it?"

Jasmine shakes her head. "I don't think I'm able. I've tried to tell some other people about it, but the words just wouldn't come out."

Hermione gets a funny look. " Just like Fidelius' charm?"

Jasmine shrugs. "I guess. I don't know for sure."

Ron shrugged and turned back to his food.

As Jasmine ate, she looked around the grade hall. She noticed over at the Ravenclaw table, that a girl with long dirty blonde hair was glancing ever so often at a page that stuck out of her bag. Jasmine wondered what the page was for. Deciding the heck with it, she rose from the Gryffindor table, and walked over to the blue and bronze table.

The ravens that were up at this hour glared at Jasmine as she sat down here the young girl. "May I ask what you were looking at?"

The young claw looked up in surprise. "I've been looking after this page for my family for the last four years" she said, her large silver eyes blinking. "Unfortunately, I can't seem to decipher what it says. Even though I, and my family have been trying to determine what it is for years now."

Jasmine held out her hand. "May I see?"

The young claw shrugged and handed the page over.

Jasmine examined the page. Just as she had thought, it looked like the same type of page she had picked up in order to read with the Tome of Eternal Darkness. She turned and looked at the young claw. "Do you, or your family know what this page is for?"

The claw shook her head. "No. And we've been trying to figure it out now for the last hundred years."

Jasmine smiled at the young girl. "My name is Jasmine Potter" she said. "Would you like to learn what this is for?"

The young Claus eyes lit up. "My name is Luna Lovegood" she said holding out her hand to Jasmine.

Jasmine shook Luna's hand with a smile.

"I would be very interested in learning what this page is all about" Luna said.

Jasmine smiled at Luna. "After classes, meet me on the seventh floor. At that point I'll tell you what this page is for." Jasmine handed the page back to Luna and rose from the table. Ignoring the glares, she was getting from some of the other claws sitting at the table, Jasmine walked out of the grate hall heading for her first class.

It had been a long tiring day of classes. If it wasn't her having to deal with Snape, it was her having to deal with Binns in history class. Jasmine couldn't wait for the day to end. However, things just seem to make the time drag on and on and on.

Finally, however, the time had finally come for her to meet with Luna on the seventh floor.

Jasmine had only been waiting a few minutes, before Luna came around the corner carrying the same bag Jasmine had seen earlier. "I'm here" Luna said. "Although I don't know why you wanted to meet here."

Jasmine smiled at her. "I know of a place where we can look at the page in peace" she said extending her hand to Luna.

Luna took Jasmine's hand and followed her as they walked along the corridor. The two girls stopped at the door about halfway along the hall, and Jasmine opened it to reveal an empty classroom.

However, Luna noticed that the room was covered in words. "Did you set up these words?"

Jasmine shook her head. "I discovered this room about A week and a half ago" she said closing the door behind her and Luna as they stepped in. "Although I didn't know that there were awards cast over the classroom itself."

Luna nodded. "I seem to be able to detect when there are words and spells cast over rooms or objects" she said sitting down in a chair near the teacher's desk. "Although it doesn't help me very much since nobody else can see them."

Jasmine pulled the young girl into a hug. "Don't worry Luna" she said smiling at the girl. "Your secret is safe with me."

Luna lent into the hug for a while, but then pulled back and pulled the page out of her back. "You said you were going to tell me what this is for?"

Jasmine smiled and pulled out the tome of eternal darkness. "It looks like the same type of page that I had read a chapter of a story in this book. I suspect it's written in the language that we normally can't read, but using this book we should be able to see what it has to tell us."

Luna's eyes sparkled with interest, and excitement. "Well, what are we waiting for then" she said giving the page to Jasmine. "Let's see what we have to learn."

Jasmine sat beside Luna and inserted the page into the Tome of Eternal Darkness.

"I cannot say what was the true beginning, nor am I sure of its end. So, perhaps here is the best place to start: I am reminded of ideas first encountered in Sir James George Frazier's book "The Golden Bough: A Study in Magic and Religion." We are overwhelmed by our very human need to weave a web of meaning where there may be none.

Since time immemorial, ancient peoples have dressed up their lack of knowledge as gods and demons. I have discovered that sometimes, the forces of gods and mortals intertwine - and legens are born..."

Luna blinks as she finds herself standing in an old temple. She sees a young woman reading the same book that she and Jasmine had just started reading. "What's happening" she asks. However, the young woman takes no notice of her and continues reading.

"Thy time is done, Great Ancient. Forever in shadow will you be, Master of Chaos, and to fade to nothing in obscurity will be thy fate.

My master has planned many millenia for this day. It is the true chaos of all things that you must now be entombed amongst the beings of flesh and bone..."

Without warning Luna's view shifts to another room. She can see a skeleton like man standing before a large creature.

This creature has many eyes, and a large mouth.

"You have a great monument here, Mantorok. It is a pity that no one will recognize it as yours..."

The man begins chanting something. "Pargon Aretak Pargon Pargon Mantorok Pargon Pargon Bankorok Pargon."

"May the darkness claim thee, crawling chaos and damned beast! No longer will thy reign be kept over the Ancients you have kept

imprisoned. Thou hast seen the last of this world...

Purple lightning streaks from the man to the pillars suspended above

the creature. One by one, the gigantic pillars drop into the creature's mass of flesh, blood spouting at each impact, causing the creature to roar in pain.

Luna blinks as her view shifts back to the young girl who has just closed the book she was reading.

"Not even these mythical fables can keep me amused. There has to be something to do around here. I only wish that something that fantastic, and of higher purpose, could happen to me..."

Without warning the temple doors slammed shut. Trapping the girl in the temple.

Luna watched as the young girl rose from her sitting position, and readying the short sword, looked around the room of the temple. Looking around she noticed there were two doors leading out of the room she was in. One to the north, and 1 to the south. Not quite willing to leave the room just yet, however, she does not walk through either door.

In the center of the room was a tyle with a picture of a triangle on it. Each side of the triangle was colored a different color. The lower side of the triangle was colored red. The right side was colored blue, and the left side was color green. The center of this triangle was colored yellow.

Neither Luna, nor the girl she was following around seemed to know what the tyle was four. However, they both took note of it just in case they needed the knowledge later.

Luna looked around for a few minutes, then watched as the young girl walked across the temple towards a statue near the northern door. The statue that looked like a goddess of some kind had a strange looking necklace around its neck. The young girl examined the necklace for a few minutes, then removed the necklace, and placed it in her pocket. Without warning the door to the north next to the statue slammed shut. Neither girl could see any way to open the door.

Ignoring the northern door, the young girl walks over to the only other door in the room and walks through it. Luna follows her.

Luna found herself in a small room. There were lots of dead bodies scattered across the floor, however she could see that under these bodies were tiles that showed a setting sun. She also noticed in one corner of the room was an altar with three candles on it. Of these three candles only the right most candle was lit, the other 2 were dark.

The young girl walked around the room, examined the tiles, examined the candles, then walked to the west and through the door. After Glancing around again Luna followed the girl through the door.

Luna found herself in a corridor that led west. As the young girl walked into the hallway, she stepped on a tyle that looked different from the rest of the hallway.

Without warning blades started to swing across the corridor in front of the girls. Not seen a way to get past the blades, the young girl retraced her steps back into the previous room Luna following. After not seeing anywhere else to go, the girl turned back to the hallway, this time looking for that tyle she'd stepped on before.

Luna followed as the young girl made her way through the hallway. Being careful to step only on the tiles that shared the color as the walls. Both girls made their way along the corridor until they reached another room.

As soon as the girls entered the next room the door leading back into the corridor slamed shut. Luna watched as a blue colored corpse lying on the floor rose to its feet.

The young girl still wielding her short sword struck out at its head, taking an off after two strikes. Next, she slashed at each of the arms, taking each one off after a couple of strikes. Finally, she slashed out the torso until it was dead.

Luna noticed as soon as the zombie rows then a meter-colored green had suddenly appeared over the young girl's head. As soon as the zombie noticed the girl then a little bit of her green meter had gone down.

The young girl moved on top of the corpse she had just killed. holding her sord straight she slashed the Zombie in the chest, causing some of her green meter to refill.

Luna noticed as this move was performed, that some of the green meter had been filled back to the top. Luna wondered what this meter was, and why she hadn't noticed it and a red colored 1 over the young girl's head before now.

After recovering from her combat. the young girl walked around the room. She noticed as did Luna that the tiles on the floor showed the sun high in the sky.

Wandering around, she found another altar with three candles sitting on it. Unlike the candles that were in the previous room, there were two candles lit here

Luna wondered " wider two candles lit here? That would represent noon."

Evidently the young girl agreed with the sentiments. For she walked over to the altar with the candles, and after a few minutes extinguished the candle on the right. There by leading the center candle lit.

Both girls looked up at the same time hearing the sound of stone grinding. Glancing over at a door leading west, they saw the door partially open. They couldn't see where the other sound was coming from, but Luna guessed it was probably in a room on the other side of the temple.

After looking around for a bit more, the young girl discovered a bronze necklace sitting on top of an urn in one corner of the room. She picked it up and placed it in her pocket.

The young girl realized that she couldn't do anything else here. So, she walked back to the temple entrance

As the young girl re-entered the small room that had the picture of a sunset, the corpses on the ground rose to their feet. Luna watched as the green meter drained significantly.

Undeterred, the young girl readied her short sword and started chopping off the heads of the zombies when they got nearby. After disposing of each head, she would then take off the arms, and finally strike out at the torso. As each zombie fell, she performed what Luna was coming to think of asher finishing move, she regained some of the green meter that was hovering over her head. As soon as the last zombie had fallen, and her green meter had recovered, the young girl walked back through the door, and into the temple's entrance hall.

Luna followed the girl back into the entrance of the temple but noticed that there was still nowhere to go. After all the northern door was still sealed shut.

The young girl walked over to the statue, and after examining it for a minute removed the Brass necklace from her pocket and placed it around the statue's neck.

Luna watched in fascination as the previously sealed door opened revealing another room just beyond. Shrugging she followed the young girl as she walked from the entrance hall into this new room.

Luna and the young girl walked into the room. Looking at the tiles on the floor Luna guest that this room was supposed to represent dawn. As the picture on the tiles showed, the sun is rising in the east.

She also noticed that there was an altar with three candles on it just like in the previous two rooms that she and the young girl had visited before. In this case only the left most candle was lit, thereby representing that this was supposed to be representing the sun rise.

Looking around she didn't see anything else of interest. Apparently neither did the young girl, for she basically looked at the tiles, glanced at the candles, and ignoring everything else walked into the next hallway.

Luna and the young girl found themselves in a hallway much like the 1 they had left only a few minutes before.

They could see the floor had the same discolored tiles, and it was heading in the same direction. The girls did their best to avoid most of the different colored tiles and ducked under traps when they set them off by accident. At last, they reached another room at the end of the hall.

As the girls entered the room off the hallway, another blue colored zombie started walking towards the young girl. Again, Luna noticed that the green meter over the young girl's head decreased ever so slightly. The young girl wasted no time in taking off the zombie's head, both arms, and finally slashing its torso with her short sword.

Again, she performed her finishing move with her short sword stabbing the zombie in the chest. There by regaining some of the green meter bring it back to full.

As the girls examined the room after dispatching the zombie, they noticed that the tiles on the floor appear to represent night. After all the pictures on the tyles showed no sun at all.

The young girl explored the room until she discovered the altar with the three candles that she had come to expect. The problem was that two of the candles on the altar were lit, the middle and the right most candles.

Realizing that this room was supposed to represent night, the young girl extinguished the lit candles, plunging the room into even more darkness than before.

The girls heard the sound of grinding stone again, and both watched as a door on the western end of the room opened the rest of the way.

Luna guessed that the same thing happened on the other side of the temple.

After glancing around the young girl walked through the newly opened door. Luna followed along behind her.

Luna saw they were in a hallway just like the other halls they had passed through earlier. she watched as the young girl made her weighed carefully along the haul.

She noticed more of those discolored tyles that would set off traps on the floor. There seem to be a lot more of them. So, she and the young girl took their time making their way along the hall.

The difference with this hallway came when they were halfway along.

The young girl noticed a pedestal in an alcove. Sitting on top of this pedestal was a Blowgun. After checking her pockets to make sure she had everything she needed, and making sure her short sword was ready in her hand, the young girl reached out and grabbed the blowgun.

Luna knew something was wrong as soon as the young girl reached out for the blowgun. Without any warning at all the floor opened both girls. Dropping them both down to another floor of the temple.

Although neither girl was hurt upon landing, not all was sunshine and rainbows for the girls after they fell. The young girl had her short sord strait out in front of her, and this caused her short sword to shatter when it hit the ground. Picking up the remains of her short sword, the young girl readied the Blowgun in her hand.

The young girl noticed there were two blue colored zombies stocking toward a guard backed into a corner. The guard had no weapon to defend himself with, and it looked like he wouldn't survive.

Reacting immediately, the young girl aimed her blowgun at the two zombies and fired a dart into each of their heads to pull their attention from the guard, and on to her.

She backed up as the zombies walked toward her trying to keep their attention. She avoided the hallway, realizing there were probably more traps down the hallway just like the ones above. She got into the alcove that she had fallen into and razed her Blowgun again to fire more darts.

/She was only able to get off two more shots each, before both zombies exploded in a spectacular fireball. Fortunately, both girls and the guard were safely out of range of the explosion, and nobody was hurt.

The young girl walked over to the top to the guard. He thanks her for protecting him from the zombies and noticing her short sword was broken offers to repair it. The young girl gratefully accepted his offer and watched as he cast a spell on her short sword making it good as new.

Placing the blowgun in her pockets again, and readying her repaired short sword in her hand, the young girl turns to face the hallway to the west.

Both girls made their way down this western hall. Luna noticed that the tyles in this hall were a different color from the ones up above.

She noticed some of the tyles were a lot larger than the ones upstairs. This meant both girls were careful as they made their way west then south into the new room.

The girls walked into a large round room. On one wall there was a mural depicting what looked like a skeleton man denouncing a god of fertility. There was also a brazier which held some kind of switch. There was not only an exit leading north back in the direction they had just come from, but also east into another hallway. Since there was nothing here both girls walked out the Eastern exit.

The girls found themselves in another stone hall. This one lead strait east. As they made their way along the corridor keeping an eye out for different colored tyles, unfortunately there was one that they could not avoid. The tyle spanned the entire length of the hall. When the young girl stepped on to the tyle, large stone blocks slammed together directly in front of her and Luna.

The 2 girls waited basically side by side for the blocks to open. As soon as they did both girls rushed through making sure they were not caught between the 2 blocks before they once again slamed together. Fortunately, there weren't very many traps like this one in the hallway, and the girls carefully made their way into the next room.

As the girls stepped through the door into the next room, they noticed 4 zombies, each one a different color. There was a red one, a blue one, a green one, and a yellow one.

The girls watched as each of the zombies fought the others in the room. It didn't take long before the green one was dead from the attacks of the other zombies. After only a few minutes the blue zombie exploded in the midst of the others killing all three zombies that were still alive. The young girl walked around the room performing her finishing move on all the zombies razing her green meter back too full.

Once all the zombies were dead, the girls looked around the room they were in. There was another mural on the wall opposite the door. This one showed the skeleton warrior killing a god. The young girl looked around the room for a minute, then not finding anything of interest walked through the northern door.

The girls found themselves in a hallway that curved to the left. After a few minutes the girls found themselves walking into a very large chamber. The young girl's eyes open wide, and she recognized this room from the descriptions in the book she had been reading earlier.

Luna also recognized it as the room she had seen in a vision just before beginning to follow the young girl around.

A very large creature that they each had seen before was pinned beneath the large pillars still dying after being struck.

The young girl walked up to the creature, hoping there was some way she could help.

"Stop, don't go near it."

The young girl looked up and saw two temple guards both trying to get her to leave the creature alone. Without warning tentacles shot out of the creature and grabbed the two guards. The tentacles drag the guards into the mouth of the creature causing it to disappear from view.

The young girl gassed in horror at what she saw.

A man walks into view from somewhere. He looks like a Skeleton, and Luna guess is that this is who the murals have been referring too as a skeleton throughout the temple.

"So, you are reduced to feeding on flesh and bone, Mantorok. How the mighty have fallen. You will surely fester for millenia to come.

slow tortorous fate, for thee..."

The man turns to look at the young girl, ignoring Luna entirely.

"You had best leave, young fool, or you will find yourself as food for the Dead God!"

The man leaves the room. The young girl walks up to Mantorok, and kneels in prayer, sad at her inability to help him. Without warning.

purple lightning leaps out of a statue next to the creature and surrounds the young girl. She passes out, and Luna watches over her.

As the young girl returns to consciousness a young man is seen standing over her. "You are one of the chosen many, flesh and blood."

Without warning the view of both girls shifts. The young girl is now reclining on the steps of the temple. A young man is standing beside her.

"It is now your destiny to fight the Eternal Darkness."

The girls see the man holding a glowing object between his 2 hands.

"I give you a gift in return for an obligation. The gift is your life, sweet dancer. The obligation is this."

The young man passes the glowing object to the young girl. She now holds the object between both of her hands.

"You hold one of Mantorok's hearts. The Essence of the Corpse God. To some it is a source of great power. From those people you must defend it, lest they use it to destroy what little brightness your world has left in it. Guard it well..."

As the young man disappears, the glowing object sinks into the young girl's chest, causing her to scream in pain. After some time, she gathers herself, and rices to her feet.

The young girl glances around the room, then notices something in the arms of the statue by Mantorok. Walking over to the statue she takes out a metal rod from between 2 arms. After glancing around again, the young girl exits out of Mantorok's chamber. Luna followed after her.

The young girl made her way back along the hallway dodging traps and making her way into the first room of this floor of the Temple. There are more skeletons now waiting here, but she makes short work of them with her short sword.

Walking over to the brazier the young girl examines the switch that she can see inside. Pulling out the metal bar that she collected from the statue near Mantorok she inserts the bar into the brazier. This pushes the switch, and she hears a door open in the distance. Deciding to investigate, the young girl makes her way back to the room that she just saw Mantorok in.

Noticing a door behind the statue next to Mantorok, the young girl walks around the room, and exits through this new door.

The room she enters is rather large but holds nothing except another statue. The young girl walks up to the statue and attempts to look behind it. upon reaching the statue however, the skeleton man and 2 guards appear.

"Fool! You should have run! Instead, you will die! Where is the Essence of Mantorok?"

The young girl says nothing as the GUARDS grab her, hissing inhumanly.

"Where is it? I will not ask again, child!"

The young girl remains silent.

"Very well, then. You will succumb to the horrors of oblivion..."

The Skeleton man fires a bolt of purple light at the young girl. As it strikes her life energy is sucked out causing her to drop to the ground dead. the last thing Luna sees is the face of the skeleton man framed as the picture fades to black.

An: and that's the chapter. Wow! this chapter has over 4 thousand word without my notes. I know I said not to expect large chapters, and then I go and do this. I forgot just how big each of the tome chapters is.

Please note that even though it was Luna's point of view we were seeing, both Luna and Jasmine saw the chapter.

Those that have played Eternal Darkness will have noticed a change I made in this chapter. In the game the triangle is just there to show the 4 colors, simular to the blocks Pious delt with in his chapter. In this story it has a deeper meaning. This however won't be revealed for several chapters.

As always leave a review or send me a pm if you have any questions. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, and I will see you all next time.
