Toriel leads me into the next room and on the left wall, there is a Froggit. Its eyes widen when it sees me, and it lets out a surprised croak. It starts to hop towards us, but it stops and thinks for a minute.
"Ribbit, Ribbit (The other human was nice. Since they seemed to be pretty nice, I'll start to talk to humans first)" I stared at the Froggit for a minute. For some reason, I could understand what it was saying. This place is getting weirder by the minute! But it seems that the other kid that came through here at least got the monster to be peaceful. I still don't trust them since the first Froggit tried to attack me. I'll have to keep an eye on them.
"In the next room, there is a pedestal with some monster candy Gregory. Would you like some?"
"Sure, I guess." I was tempted to say no. I know a dangerous situation when I see one and the sooner, I get out of the Underground the better. But that candy is too tempting to pass up.
I walk into the room with Toriel. At the sides of the room, there is water flowing through to another room, the back of it is covered in vines. The main thing that caught my eyes is the pedestal with candy in it in the centre. The candy from the looks of it had different flavours, and on the pedestal, there is a sign saying 'please take one.
I reach into the pedestal and grab a piece of candy and I pop it in my mouth. It is single-handedly the most delicious piece of candy I ever had! I reach my hand and I grab another piece but Toriel gasps.
"Gregory, the sign says to only take one piece. Please put it back." I sigh and I drop it back into the pedestal.
"Sorry, I just don't get the chance to taste things like that often." Toriel's face quickly changes from disappointment to empathy.
"Don't worry Gregory, once we get you to your new home, you'll have plenty to eat all the time!" Toriel then walks out of the room, and I follow her. As we continue walking, I notice red leaves spread on the floor in some areas. The next hallway we walk into has weird patches on the floor. On the wall, I see two vents on each side of the ground. They look big enough that a whole person can fit through them.
"The patches on the ground will make us fall through the floor. I know that it may be a bit unsettling, but I know you can do it." Toriel walks onto one of the patches and sure enough, she falls through.
If she did it, then it must be safe for me to try it. I walk onto one of the patches and before I know it, I feel the ground beneath my feet give away the next second I find myself in a lower room and I see Toriel standing by a door near the right side of the room.
"Splendid! I knew you could do it! If you follow me through this door, this will lead us out of the room." She then proceeds to walk through the door. I follow her and in a blink of an eye, I see that I am now on the other side of the patches. I look behind me and I see the vent from before. How did it move me here?
I feel curious about this but there is no time to think about it. We then continue to the next room. And I see a rock and in front of it is a pressure plate. There are also spikes blocking us from continuing. I can tell that if we push the rock on the pressure plate it will lower the spikes.
But before I do that, I notice a sign on the wall, so I go over to it and read it. On the sign, it says Three out of four grey rocks recommend you push them. What? That makes no sense, rocks aren't living things!
I turn away from the idiotic sign and I push the rock onto the pressure plate and sure enough the spikes lower.
"I am impressed, Gregory! You didn't even need me to tell you what you needed to do!"
"This isn't my first time-solving puzzles. If anything, this is one of the easiest ones I've done." Toriel looks at me curiously and with concern.
"Were you fond of puzzles back on the surface Gregory? I know that many children your age like many puzzle games." I can tell that Toriel is trying to think of a non-traumatic reason for which I know puzzles, but I can tell she knows I was doing it for survival.
"No," I say while looking at her sheepishly. Toriel seems saddened by this, and she puts a hand on my shoulder. We then continue to the next room in which there are more patches on the ground. There are way more than last time to the point that it spans most of the room.
"To get to continue we will need to take a certain path across the patches. Please follow me." Toriel then starts to walk on the patches, avoiding any that would cause us to fall through the floor. I follow her lead and eventually we make it to the other side.
We continue into the next room where there are more rocks and pressure plates. It looks like I will need to push all the rocks onto the pressure plates to lower the spikes again. I push the first two without problem but when I get to the last one, something completely unexpected happens.
"WHOA there, pardner! Who said you could push me around?"
"What the… hell…" I said, bewildered as I took my hands off the rock.
"Whoa, no need for such language." My head was starting to shake. Now there are talking rocks! This place is even weirder than the Pizzaplex! But I guess the sign back there makes more sense now.
"Look I don't know how you can talk, but I'm going to move you now."
"So, you want me to move over as the other kid did? No problem, just for you, pumpkin." The rock then moves forward slightly.
"That's not what I meant." I feel a tiny bit annoyed by this rock. But I have to try to stay calm and get it to move.
"Hmm, you want me to move some more. Alright, how is this?" The rock says as it moves to the side.
"No! I want you to move on the pressure plate! Now can you just get on with it!" My patience with this rock has run out. How can it be so stupid to not know that I want it to move on the pressure plate to continue?
"Jeez, I'm sorry. You could have just asked nicely. But I'll move, but please if you ever come back, just be nicer next time." The rock finally moves onto the pressure plate and the spikes lower. Toriel moves to my side, and I can see that she looks disappointed by my actions.
"That wasn't very nice, Gregory. Please try to refrain from speaking loudly the next time we talk to someone."
"Look, it's not my problem the rock didn't understand what it was told. Right now, I just really want to continue forward."
"I understand that you have that problem, Gregory. Perhaps when we get to your new home, I can help you overcome that part of your personality." I scoff and I walk onto the wood where the spikes were.
Author's Notes:
Next up Gregory is going to meet a very interesting ghost. But first we are going to see how things are coming along with Vanessa.
As always, I thank my proofreaders Kaeli, and The_Armada_of_Ships.
