The Intruder
In the living room of the Owl House, Luz, Max, and Shartok were watching King fighting against some kind of sock. Luz was recording King on her phone.
"And here we have the most fearsome creature in the world, the King of Demons. Facing his natural enemy, the ducky sock!" Luz said as she was acting like someone from a documentary
King then tears the sock to shreds
"Where are you now, ducky sock?" asked King
"Sorry to interrupt, but why are we here again?" Max asked
"Oh yeah." King said as he climbed on a table. "Human Luz and Human Max, you've been so obsessed with witchcraft and mastering your powers that you haven't learned anything about my kind. Prepare yourself for... Demons 101!"
King rips off a cover for a board to show several pictures of different demons. He then puts on a fake professor hat
"Here we go" sighed Shartok
"Shh" shushed Max
"Demons like me are grim tricksters of the twilight, creatures of sulfur and bone." King explained
"And cute little paws." Luz said as she zoomed in with her phone
"Awww" Shartok cooed
"Quiet you! Yes. And cute little paws. True. We live only to create chaos and misery. Our only weaknesses are purified water and passive-aggressive comments. Sometimes." King explained
"I had no idea you guys are sensitive" Max said
"Even demons have inner demons. The most powerful demon of all is the Snaggleback. He's a—" King began as he takes off a picture to reveal another image of a fearsome demon with a shell on it.
"Bad boy!" Luz interrupted as she places some stickers on it
Max and Shartok couldn't help but snicker at this
"Come on you guys, pay attention. This information could save your life someday." King said
"Okay. We're done" Shartok said
"We'll listen, King" Max added
"Yeah. I am so paying attention. This is my paying attention face" Luz said as she makes a serious face
Just then, lightning cracked follow by a roar of thunder. Everyone turn to the window
"Uh-oh. Looks like it's gonna rain." said King
" I love the rain." Luz said with a gasp. She runs to the door
" Hey, wait." King said as he, Max, and Shartok follow after him.
Luz walked outside and exhales
"I always love feeling the first few drops in my hair." said Luz as she knelt down to a flower. "I bet you do too, little buddy."
A drop of rain hits the flower which cause it to whither and die which surprises Luz
"What?"
"Huh?" Max said. He sticks out his hand and a rain drop hits his hand which burns him a bit. "Ow! What kind of rain is this?"
"Boiling rain! Everybody inside now!" yelled Eda as she runs over
"Huh?" Luz asked
Eda grabs Luz by the arm and drags her to the doorway. Max and Shartok quickly got out of the way as went in.
"Phew! That was close. But the important thing is you didn't get hurt." Eda said
They look to see Luz lying on the ground
"Yep. Not hurt" Luz groaned as a cup fell on her head.
"Ooh. That look like it hurt" Shartok said
"I'll get the band-aid" Max added
Everyone in the Boiling Isles were taking shelter from the boiling rain. Back at the Owl House, Max was putting a band-aid on Luz's arm.
"There. That should do it" Max said
"Thanks, Max" Luz said
King grabbed a band-aid and place it on his snout
"Look, now we're boo-boo buddies." King said which makes Luz squeal and fall over
"Oh, my gosh, I love you so much." she said
"The Boiling Isles sure has some unusual weather. Doesn't it, Eda?" Max asked the Owl Lady
"Yeah, we don't have weather. We have plagues, gorenados, shale hail, painbows." Eda responded
"It's like a rainbow but looking at it turns you inside out." King added
"Yikes" Max gulped
"So, until the boiling rain stops, no one is allowed outside tonight." Eda told them
"And if the rain doesn't get you, the Snaggleback will. They wander the rain, feeding on boiled tourists." King said as he showed the humans and bat the image of the Snaggleback from the book.
"I'm pretty sure that's not true" whispered Shartok
"I heard that!" King snapped which caused the bat to flinch
"Well, whatever the case, this force field spell should protect the house from boiling rains and made-up demons." Eda said
"Hoot! Well, hurry it up with that force field. That rain is getting closer to my precious stucco." Hooty said
"Yeah, yeah. I got it." Eda said as she used her staff to create a force field to cover the entire Owl House.
"Wow! Someday I'd like to be as cool as Eda the Owl Lady. Magical, sassy, surprisingly foxy for her age. Hey, why do they call you the Owl Lady, anyway?" Luz asked her
" 'Cause I'm so wise." Eda answered
"'Cause she coughs up rat bones." Hooty said
" I think it's 'cause she gets distracted by shiny objects." King said
"No I don't" Eda said unamused.
King takes out a pen and clicks it. The diamond on the top glows making the Owl Lady's eyes widen.
"It sparkles and shimmers. It shines and delights. I must have it for my nest..." she said as she lunges at it, but King pulls it away causing Eda to hit the ground
Shartok then begins to laugh
"Oh yeah. That is definitely the reason" Shartok chortled
"Too true, buddy" Max said a smile
"You have a nest? I want a nest! Nest party!" Luz said as she helps Eda up
"Ugh. That force field really took it out of me." Eda said exhausted
"Uh-oh. Moving a little slow. Age finally catching up to ya?" King asked. Eda pulls his hat over his eyes. "Aaaah! Darkness!"
Eda then enters the house.
"This is perfect. Since we'll be stuck in the house all night, Eda won't have any excuse not to teach me a spell." Luz said as she, Max, and Shartok goes inside
"But don't you wanna finish our lesson? I was gonna let you scratch a demon's tummy. Me!" King said
"Oh, uh, sorry, King. But... magic." Luz said
Max gave him an apologetic look as he and Shartok follow after her. King became frustrated as his hat deflated. Eda walks behind a screen and snaps her fingers to changes into her pajamas. She then lies on the couch with a sigh. Luz then leans over to her which surprises the Owl lady.
"Oh, Eda, have I told you how rad your fang looks today?" Luz asked
"Whatever it is, no." Eda said
"Uh, and your hair is like... girl." Luz said
"I'm not teaching you magic tonight. I'm sleepy. I'm a sleepy little owl" Eda said as she pulls the covers over her and drifts off to sleep
"Please, Eda, please. How am I supposed to earn my witch's staff if I don't know any spells?" Luz asked
"No. Sleep" Eda responded as she pulls the blanket over her face
"Luz. I know you want to learn some magic, but don't you think you should wait? After all, patience is a virtue" said Max
"Yeah. The least you could do is let the Owl Lady rest. She's already worn herself out" Shartok added
"I know I know. But I just have to learn one simple spell. I mean Eda already helped with your training, Max. Well, what about me?" Luz asked
Hearing this, Max and Shartok both looked at each other and sighed. Luz really wanted to learn a spell very badly and frankly, Eda has never taught her one.
"Okay, Luz. We see your point. What do we do?" asked Max
Luz thinks and then sees the glowing pen on the floor
"Hey Shartok. Can you get that glowing pen on the floor?" Luz asked
"Sure I guess" Shartok muttered as he flew over and picked it up with his feet
As Eda was sleeping under the cover, the clicking of the pen woke her up.
"Sparkle thing." she gasped as she sat up
Eda turns to see Luz clicking the pen as Max and Shartok watches
"Oh, this?" Luz asked
Eda perches on the arm of the couch as she watches the pen
"Ooh!" the Owl Lady said
She tries to grab it, but Luz pulls it away causing her to fall to the ground.
"Nope. Teach me one spell, and I'll give you your sparkle thing." Luz said
"I respect your cunning, but I also hate you for it." Eda said
"Heh. Blackmail" Shartok muttered
"Max, get my staff" Eda ordered
"Yes ma'am!" Max said as he and Shartok runs off to get her staff
After Max and Shartok got Eda her staff. The Owl Lady was standing in front of Luz for her lesson. Max and Shartok were watching them.
"If you want a witch's staff like mine, don't make me repeat myself." Eda said as she dose off. But gasps herself awake. "Witch's staffs have power embedded into them."
"Gimme!" Luz said as she held out her hands
"But before one is earned, every witch needs to know how to cast spells on their own. Now tonight I will show you how to create... light." Eda said as she drew a circle to create a ball of light. The ball falls down towards Luz. Max and Shartok watches this in awe
"Wow" Max said
"It sure is bright" Shartok said as he shielded his eyes a bit
"Yawn! Who needs another boring spell lesson when you could be learning all the fun ways a demon could kill you. Look how teethy. Bite, bite." King said as he held up a drawing of a demon with big teeth.
"Be quiet. I need to focus." Luz told him
Max and Shartok didn't say anything as they continue to watch
"Now, humans think magic is made out of thin air, but that's stupid. Everything comes from something. Let me ask you, kid. Where do you think magic comes from?" Eda asked
"Uh, from the heart?" Luz guessed
"Actually, you're right." Eda said which makes Luz gasped
"No, really. It comes from a sac of magic bile attached to a witch's heart." Eda said as she pulled out a diagram of viscera from her hair to show Luz
"That's disgusting" Max replied
"But it's true" Shartok added
"Can I keep that?" Luz asked
"No" Eda said as she puts the diagram back in her hair. "Now, everything depends on the spell circle. The bigger the circle, the more powerful the spell."
The Owl Lady draws a bigger circle which creates a big ball of light that bursts
"But how can I, little ol' Luz, do magic if I don't have a magic bile... sac?" Luz asked
"You know, I'm not actually sure." Eda replied
"What?" Luz said in surprise
"I know witches did magic differently in the past, but I never bothered to figure out how." Eda said with a laugh
"She's kidding right?" Max asked
Shartok can only shrug his shoulders
"Eda!" Luz yelled in annoyance
"Don't worry. You'll figure it out. Now I need to lie down." Eda said as she cracked her back
"That's it? Wait! I need to see you do the circle thingy again. I'll record it on my phone this time." Luz said as she takes out her phone and records Eda. "Smile! You're on camera. One more spell won't kill you."
Eda groans
"Fine. Now, you see, the... spell circle is really key because—" Eda said as she begins to draw a shakey circle. But it disappears as she begins to yawn. "Ooh, boy."
Eda then passes out. Max and Shartok gasped at this
"Welp, looks like one more spell killed Eda." King said
Luz begins to panic.
They turned Eda's unconscious body so that she can lie on her back.
"Oh, my gosh. My obsession with spells knocked out Eda. I'm a monster." Luz panicked
"Now now. Let's not panic. I'm sure she's just tired" Max said.
"Bap! " King said as he slapped Eda's face. "Yep. She's out. Bap! Heh heh. Just making sure."
"We should get help, right?" Luz said as she ran to the door, but Max grabs her by her shirt.
"Hold it, Luz! Boiling Rain, remember?" he reminded
"Yeah. If you go out there, you'll get cooked alive" Shartok added
"No, let her try. It'll be funny." Hooty said
Max just slams the door
"But what if Eda's dead?" Luz asked in worry
"Shiny thing. Big nest." Eda said in her sleep as she snored
"Like I said, Eda is just tired" Max said
"Yeah. Remember when her head got cut off last week? That woman can survive anything." King said "She's probably just tired from staying up all night chasing shrews and voles."
"So what do we do with her?" Shartok asked
"We can't just leave her on the room" Luz added
Max and King looked at them with tired looks.
Max, Luz, King, and Shartok were dragging the unconscious Owl Lady up the stairs and into her room.
"Whoo. That sure was hard work pulling her up the stairs." Shartok said
"Easy for you to say. You didn't even help" King retorted
"Hey. I was conserving my strength" Shartok retorted
"Quiet you two. Let's just get Eda into her nest" Luz scolded lightly
Max and Luz then both lifts Eda and puts her in the nest
"There we go. Nice and comfy" Max said
"Sorry for pushing you, Miss Eda. Please don't hurt me when you wake up." Luz said
"Should I bap her again?" asked King
"Let's not" Max said
"Yeah. Just let her rest, you little goober. Come on. Let's go downstairs." Luz said as she left the room. Max and Shartok follow her out. King bapped Eda one more time and runs out while cackling.
Downstairs, Max was in his fire form and practicing on creating a fireball which he successfully does. King was drawing a demon on his notepad while Luz is trying to practice the spell from her phone.
"This is all she does. Why you gotta be so cryptic, Owl Lady?" Luz complained as she played the video
"Now, you see, the spell circle is really..." Eda said on the video
"Hey, you know what's really cryptish? Let me tell you about the most spine-chilling demon. Smoochy-pie the Sweetie Baby! He's... Well, he's a lot more threatening than his name implies." King said as he shows the notepad with a fish-like demon drawing
Shartok begins to cover his mouth to prevent himself from laughing when he heard King
"Not now, King. I want to figure out this spell. But if I don't have a magic sac, what's the point? I'll just be twirling my fingers around un-magically forever." Luz said
"Why do you want to learn magic so bad, anyway?" King asked
"I was a nobody back home. But becoming a witch is my chance to be someone. Do you know what it's like to have no one take you seriously?" Luz asked
Max looks at Luz with sympathy. In a way, she had it rough just like him back home.
"If I help you learn that spell, could we finish our lesson?" asked King
"Oh, yes, yes. You can teach me about demons all week if you help me learn this spell." Luz said as she puts her phone away
"And, I would be willing to learn too" Max added
"Me too. I guess" Shartok added
"Well, she said witches used to do magic differently, so there has to be a way, right? And I have a theory. Every day I notice Eda sneaking drinks of this special elixir, see? Then she always gets a boost of energy, see? I think that's where she gets her powers. And I know where to get some." King said as he showed them a drawing
"You do?" asked Max
"Sí." King responded
"Thank you so much. You're a prince." Luz said as she hugged King
" King. I'm King." King corrected
"Right" Luz said
"That is your name after all" Shartok said
King snuck into Eda's room. After barely avoiding a trap, King sees a bottle with golden liquid at her nightstand with a label that says, "An Elixer a Day". He takes the bottle and got out of there. King then made it back to Luz, Max, and Shartok who were at a table.
"Got it" King said
"Wow. I can't believe I'm about to learn magic. Real magic. This is historic." Luz said as she took the bottle
"Do you think this will work?" Max asked Shartok
"How should I know? I've never tried it" Shartok replied
Luz held the bottle to her lips. But before she can drink it, a clap of thunder startles her. She fumbles with it until the bottle of elixer smashes onto the floor
"Oh no!" Max yelled
"Golden elixir. Gone! This is awful." Luz said
"Who even needs a light spell when we have tons of lamps?" King said as he brushes it off
Suddenly, all the lights in the house goes off. Everyone glares are King
"You were saying?" Shartok asked
"Hooty controls the house lights. He probably just fell asleep." King said
Then they heard a loud crashing noise.
"Hoot! Hoot!" Hooty shouted
"Hooty!" yelled Luz
"He's in trouble!" Max yelled
The gang ran out of the kitchen and into the living room. They gasp to see a shadowy creature had broken the door off it's hinges. The creature clawed at the door and scurries off. The group then rushes over to Hooty.
"Hooty! Are you alright? Speak to us!" Max yelled as he and Luz checked on Hooty
"This is horrible!" Shartok cried
"I know. Whatever did this escaped into the rain. What could survive that?" asked Luz
"Oh, my gosh. The Snaggleback! It feeds during the rains. It must have stumbled across our house and seen us inside." King said
They hear howling. The gang looks to see the shadowy creature going through the upper floor of the Owl House.
"It's gone into the house!" shouted Max in fright
"This is terrifying. So why do you look so happy?" Luz asked as she notices King with a happy look and was squealing in joy.
"Because this could be a lesson. This would be a great way for you to see a wild demon up close and personal." King said
"Are you out of your mind?!" Shartok shouted
"You want to go toward those creepy sounds? No way!" Luz yelled
"Yeah. I'm all for learning about the different demons, but what you're suggesting is suicidal!" Max added
"What if Eda gets eaten? She's upstairs and defenseless because you knocked her out." King reminded
Luz, Max, and Shartok groans
"Well, when you put it that way" Max sighed
Everyone then prepare for battle. Luz pulls on rubber gloves. King tapes a pillow to his chest. Luz puts bandages under her eyes like eye black. Max then fires up with his fireballs in hand while Shartok adjusts the goggles on his head. Luz grabs a hockey stick, which King runs past in favor of grabbing Francois. They made it to the staircase. Max took the lead and holds up a fireball from his hand as a light as they went upstairs. They see the door to Eda's room open. Max and Luz look at each other with worry. They open the door to see that the room is empty and the window smashed.
"Oh my titan!" Shartok cried
"Eda!" Max and Luz said as they ran to the nest
"She got snaggle-backed." King said
"Eda?" Max said as she and Luz searched the nest. Luz notices a pillow with claw marks on it.
"No! Slash marks. King! You're the demon expert. We need your help." Luz told King
"I'll go get my demon book!" King said as he ran down the hall. He then came back with two books in his hands. "Wait, wait. First edition or second?"
King gasped as he notices that Luz, Max, and Shartok have vanished
"Luz? Max? Shartok? The Snaggleback got them" the small demon said assuming the worst. Then the shadow rushes past him. King notices is and chases after it. "You craven beast. Give me back my boo-boo buddy and her friends."
King round the corner to see one of Luz's shoes and a nearby door being closed.
"Luz?" King said in horror as he picked up her shoe. Then someone tapped him from behind. King turns in alarm only to see it was Shartok
"Hey, your highness" Shartok greeted
"Oh. It's you. I see that you're okay. Say, why aren't you on Max's shoulder?" he asked
"Well, we kinda split up to find you. You were gone a long time" Shartok replied
"I see. Well, I assume the Snaggleback got Luz and Max. I found one of Luz's shoes." King said as he looked at the door. "I believe that creature went behind that door. Want to assist me?"
"Okay. But FYI, you're still not my king" Shartok said
"Yeah Yeah. Just stay close." King said as he and the bat approaches the door. King opens it and they went in.
They search the room until Shartok notices something behind some clothes. The bat taps King and points to the clothes. King smiles and puts a finger over his mouth which means to be quiet. Shartok nods his head. They sneaked over to the clothes
"There's nowhere for you to run!" King yelled as he uncovers the clothes. It was indeed the Snaggleback but not like in the picture that King had shown
"Wait wait wait. That's the Snaggleback?" Shartok asked in confusion
"Wow. You are a lot shorter in person." King said
"And less scary" Shartok added
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I-I just needed a place to hide from the rains." Snaggleback stammered
"Then why did you break down our door and take Luz and Max? That's not cool, man. Bad Snaggleback!" scolded King
" I-I didn't do any of that stuff. I snuck in through a window just now." Snaggleback replied
"Well, if you didn't do it. Then who did?" asked Shartok
Suddenly, a hand crashes through the ceiling and grabs the Snaggleback
"Oh, no! A twist!" cried the Snaggleback as he was being pulled up
Both King and Shartok whimpered as they heard stomping. Then they heard something behind them. They shakily turn to see the door open to reveal the shadowy creature. It barfed out the Snaggleback's shell. The creature then roars at them.
"Oh my..." King said
"Titan" Shartok finished in fright
The creature begins to advanced on King and Shartok which forces them against the wall.
"K-Keep away from us!" Shartok said in fright
"Hey, hey. I am the king of demons, okay? And as such, I demand you to barf my friends back up." King ordered
The monster roared and swung it's claw at them. Luckily, King and Shartok both yelped and ducked
"Let's get out of here!" Shartok yelled as he and King ran for it.
King ran out of the room with Shartok flying after him. The monster was on their tail. They round the corner which causes the monster to hit the walls. Just as the two were fleeing, a pair of hands grabs King and and pulls him into Eda's room. Another pair of hands, grabs Shartok and also pulls him in. The door then shuts. The beast slowly walks down the hall. The bat and demon both turn to see that Max and Luz had saved them.
"Luz? Max?" King gasped
"You're okay!" Shartok said as he got on Max's shoulder and hugged his neck
"Of course we are. We're just glad that you two are unharmed" Max said
"Ditto" Luz added
"Where were you guys?" King asked
"We were checking on Eda, and she was gone, and then you were gone. I also tripped and lost my shoe." Luz answered
"We had to split up when we were looking for you. When I couldn't find you, I had to go back to Eda's room" Max said
"Yeah. And worry me half to death" Shartok replied
"It's okay, buddy. I won't do it again" Max said
"Hey, you found my shoe" Luz said
She raises her barefoot and is about to put it on, when King notices a piece of paper on it.
"What's that?" King asked as he took the paper. He then reads it. "Keeps the curse at bay."
King gasps takes out the other paper and connects them.
"An elixir a day, keeps the curse at bay." King
"Curse?" Shartok puzzled
"What does that mean?" Max asked
"I was wrong the whole time. That's no Snaggleback. That creature is..." King said
Suddenly, the creature smashes through the door to reveal a familiar face
"Eda?!" Luz, Max, and Shartook gasped in shock
Eda then came at them. Luz screams as her phone falls out of her pocket which emits a flashing light which blinds Eda. Eda screams and covers her eyes. Max took the chance to run up and delivers a roundhouse kick to Eda which knocks her down.
"Run!" he yelled as he, Shartok, Luz, and King ran to the balcony
Eda recovers from the attack and roars loudly. The gang hid behind the wall as the owl monster begins to search for them. Luz and Max covered their mouths while King ducked down and covered his head. Shartok was holding his wings over his head. Just as Eda got closer, Luz notices a can and grabs it. She flings it to create a sound. Eda roars and runs at it. Everyone all caught their breaths
"Phew. That was too close" Max said
"Yeah. Who would've thought that the Owl Lady would turn into an Owl Beast" Shartok added
"Did you see her eyes? They were like Rawr! " Luz said as she pull down her eyelids
"How did she get this way?" Max asked
"Don't you see? The elixir I gave you doesn't give Eda powers. It prevents her from turning into that thing. She's turned into a nightmare and it's all my fault. I'm so sorry, you guys. I-I just wanted you to be into demons like you're into magic and controlling your powers. I don't have many friends, and no one even pays that much attention to me. I thought maybe if I taught you guys, finally someone would care about creatures like me." King confessed
Max blinked in surprise after King said that. He could see that King was just like him in a way as well as Luz. Even Shartok started to feel a little bad for him.
"You really mean that? But what about the times when you called me peasant?" Shartok asked
"I guess I was a bit of a jerk when we first met, Shartok. I thought maybe that could help me gain a friend for someone like me" King admited
"I see. If it's alright with you, I don't mind if I can be your companion. As long as you don't keep calling me a peasant" Shartok said
"Deal" King said
"Well, let's finish the lesson" Luz said as she holds out the pen to King
"Huh?" King said
"Eda's turned into some kind of demon, and we need to save her." Luz said
"And who's know more about demons, than the expert himself?" Max added
King points at himself, to which Luz, Max, and Shartok nod their heads. King giggles and jumps into Luz's arms for a hug.
"Let's see." King said as he drew on some leaves. "She was bigger, covered in feathers, and had giant black eyes. Demons with black eyes are usually sensitive to light."
Max snaps his fingers in realization
"Of course! Luz, remember when your phone emitted a bright light at Eda?" he said
"Oh yeah. But I can't use it. My camera's all blasted." Luz said as she showed her phone's cracked screen
"Oooh!" Shartok cringed
"Then... what about that light spell?" King asked
"You saw me. I can't draw circles in the air. I'm not like Eda." sighed Luz as she played the video
"...spell circle is really key..." Eda said on the video as she slowly draws the circle
The video then glitches to reveal a strange pattern.
"There's a pattern in the spell circle." gasped Luz
Max and Shartok along with King leans in
"Really?" Max asked
"Where?" asked King
"It looks like this." Luz said as she takes a leaf and drew the pattern on it. "There"
Then, a ball of light suddenly appear. Everyone gasp
"Whoa. Shartok, are you seeing this?" Max asked
"I sure do. It's both beautiful and a little bright" Shartok said
"Oh, my gosh. I just did magic." Luz said as she stood up. "I just did magic! I just did magic!"
"Way to go, Luz! You finally mastered a spell" Max said
"Not bad for a beginner" Shartok added
"Thanks" Luz said
"We're not going to stop anything with something that small." King said
Suddenly, Eda's roar was heard which startles them
"Hold on. Eda said: 'The bigger the circle, the more powerful the spell'" Max recalled
"That's true. But how do we get Eda back?" Luz asked
"I might have an idea. But it will involve live bait" Max said as he turns to Shartok.
"Uh. What are you looking at me for?" the bat asked nervously
In the hallway, Shartok was flying through the hallways of the Owl House. He was not happy about this.
"I'm gonna kill him for this" Shartok grumbled
Flashback:
The gang was in the hallway setting up a trap for Eda.
"Remind me again why I'm the bait?" Shartok asked
"Well, Shartok. It's a known fact that Owls are a bat's natural predator. All you have to do is lure Eda over here" Max instructed
"And while you're doing that, me and Max will draw this huge light glyph on this wall. When Eda gets close enough, we'll set it off and Boom! She's back to normal." Luz added
"Okay. But I still don't like this" Shartok said as he flew off
Flashback ends
"I swear. If I get eaten, I'm gonna haunt Max for the rest of his life" Shartok said as he flew downstairs
In the living room, Eda the Owl Beast was sniffing around looking for them. Shartok was then leaning at the doorway.
"Hey ugly! Over here!" he called
Eda spots Shartok. She roars and then begins to lunge at him. Shartok screams and flies upstairs with the Owl Beast hot on his tail. Shartok flapped his wings as hard as he can to go faster. Eda attempts to bite him, but the bat dodges her jaw. Shartok then rounds a corner while King threw in some books and paper causing Eda to slip and crash into a wall. Just as she recovers from it, Max throws a cloth over Eda. He and Luz were on two ladders and had drawn a large light glyph.
"I'm sorry, Eda. But it's for your own good. Get ready, Max" Luz said
"Got it" Max replied
Luz finishes the light glyph. Then she and Max both slams the glyph to activate it. They cover their eyes as a very bright light comes out. Eda screams as she gets blinded by the light.
Just as the light dies down, Eda had changed back her human state. She wakes up to herself back in her own room in her nest and a straw in her mouth. She yelps when she sees that she was partially transformed. She sips more of the elixir from her straw changing her back to her old self.
W-What happened? Oh, I have the worst headache. And my mouth tastes like roadkill. "Eda said until she vomits out a big owl pellet.
It dissolves to reveal the Snaggleback
"I'm just gonna... lie here for a minute." it groaned
"Hmm? I was looking for that." Eda said as she held the bottle
"Actually, we found an extra one in your closet." King said as he walks up to her
"King? King! You stole my elixir? I ought to break every bone in your—" Eda threatens until King shushes her
"Shh! Over there" whispered King as he points to Luz, Max, and Shartok
Luz was making a lot of lights by drawing the patterns on different paper.
"Hey. Can I try that? asked Max
"Sure" Luz said as she handed him the pen
Max takes a paper and draws the pattern. A ball of light glyph appears
"Wow." Max said
"Looks like we both learned something, eh Max?" Luz asked
"I guess we did." Max said
"They all look nice" Shartok said as he looked up at the lights
"Wow. How are they doing that?" Eda asked
"She figured it out and did it all on her own. Even Max picked up on it" King explained "Hey, I, uh, kind of messed a bunch of things up back there. And I just wanted to say I'm sorry."
"Well, you better be. I got a long list of disgusting chores with your name on it. But it's not entirely your fault." Eda said as Luz, Max, and Shartok walks up to her. "I haven't been completely honest with you guys. When I was younger, I was cursed. I don't know exactly how it happened, all I know is that if I don't take my elixir... Well, that's why people call me the Owl Lady. No one likes having a curse, but if you take the right steps, it's manageable."
"Oh" Max said
"So, are you okay?" Luz asked
"There's nothing for you to worry about. It's all under control, and as long as no one steals my elixir—King—then I'm fine. But, hey, look at this. Two humans doing magic despite one of you already having powers. Good on you, both." Eda said
"We had some encouragement from a great teacher." Luz said as they looked at King
"Oh, you." King said bashfully
"Hey, hey! Is anyone there? Hello? Hoot? I'm on the floor. It's cold!" Hooty called out
"Looks like Hooty is fine. Come on, guys let's go help him" Max said as he and Shartok went out of the room
"You got it buddy" Shartok
"That voice. That horrific voice!" said King in annoyance
"We'll take care of him. You stay in bed. Come on, you goopy fella. We'll set you free now." Luz said as she picked up the Snaggleback and walks out of the room
"Ow, ow, ow. I think my tail was digested." it said
Back in the living room, Luz and Max had just put the door back on it's hinges. They were putting bandages on the scratch marks
"Welcome to the boo-boo buddy club, Hooty." Luz said
"Finally, I get to be a part of something." Hooty said
Shartok then looks out the door to see that the Boiling rain has stopped
"Hey Max. The boiling rain is over. Shall we go out to do some training?" Shartok asked
"You read my mind, buddy." Max said as they went outside
"Hey, I wanna see this. Wait up you two" Luz said as she follows after them
