Covention
We join Max, Shartok, Luz, King, and Eda at the Human Collectibles stand. As the Owl Lady was dusting the table, King, Max and Shartok were watching Luz read her Azura book.
"Emboldened by the dishonor Hecate had shown, Azura lifted her staff to the cotton-candy skies and shouted, 'I challenge you to a Witch's Duel!' And look! I drew a flip book." Luz said as she reveals a small drawing on the corner of the page and begins flipping it back and forth. "Pew, pew, pew!"
"Astounding. I have never heard of a story like that" Shartok said
"Those Azura books are Luz's favorite kinds of stories. She's into them like I'm into D&D" Max replied
"D&D?" Shartok asked confused
"It's short for Dungeons and Dragons" informed Max
"Oh" Shartok
"Show me the picture." King said as he peeked over the book
"What?" asked Luz
"Show me the picture!" King repeated as Luz does so. "Hah! I can draw better than that. You know, they once called me the King of Artists."
"I thought you were the King of Demons, 'your highness'" said Shartok as he used air quotes
"Yeah. Aren't you making this up?" Max asked
"Doesn't matter. What's important is that my followers would leave me offerings in fear of me!" King proclaimed
"Well, I can offer you more of this tantalizing book." Luz offered
"Ugh! Please stop reading that. Its flowery language is an insult to witches and driving away all of our serious customers!" Eda complained
"I hate to be rude, Eda. But, what customers?" Max said as he gestures to the empty street
"Yeah. We're the only ones here" Shartok added
"What's going on?" asked Luz
"This is a bad omen. There must be something horrible happening today." Eda said as she narrows her eyes
Just then, Gus and Willow runs up to the stand
"Luz! Max! Something amazing is happening today" Willow said
"Gus, Willow! Hey!" Luz greeted
"What's up?" Max greeted
"Yo!" Shartok greeted
"It's the annual convention! Student witches get to see all the types of covens before they're placed in one. There's even a mystery guest this year!" Willow explained as she showed them a flyer
"Interesting. Almost like a job fair for witches everywhere." Max said
"Well, not all of them" Shartok added
"Eda, can we go?" Luz asked the Owl Lady
"Absolutely not." Eda answered which causes Luz to groan. "I never joined a coven for a reason. Sure it's like a fun club for witches, but you're also giving up your magical independence to be part of a crooked system."
This caused Willow to frown
"Eh, but, you know, no judgment. In any case, I haven't been to one since we were girls." The Owl Lady said
"'We?'" asked Max
"What do you mean, Owl Lady?" Shartok asked while narrowing her eyes.
" I—the—I mean—" stammered Eda.
Luz then pops back up
"Who's "we"? You have a mysterious past! Now we gotta go!" she said
"No" Eda answered
"Okay. Then you leave me no choice." Luz said
"What are you doing, Luz?" Max asked
"Just watch" Luz answered as she gives her Azura book to King
"'You shall not shan't doeth no more harm,' Azura callethed out..." King read as he walks up to Eda
"So flowery, so awful." Eda said as she walks away, opens the portal door and goes in.
As it begins to fold, Luz quickly grabs King who was still reading and toss him inside. The portal door then unfolds and Eda comes back with King on her head still reading
"Stop it! Stop it! I will literally do anything to stop this!" she begged
"It's official. We're checking out this covention." Max said as Shartok snickered
They find themselves in front of a building with a sign that says "Covention Today". Luz was bouncing excitedly while Max and Shartok were watching in awe. Eda just groans while pinching the bridge of her nose.
Outside, Eda struggles to pull the cowl over her head
"Gotta keep a low profile." Eda said
"Is this cowl really necessary?" Luz asked as she helped tuck her hair in her cowl
"Do you think all my wanted posters are for petty theft?" the Owl Lady asked as several small objects fall out of her hair
"Oh yeah. Pretty much" Shartok replied
"Yeah, partly. But the big whammy is I disobeyed the law and refused to join a coven. If I'm seen, I could go to jail. Again." Eda said as she puts all the objects back in her hair
"That reminds me. I need to keep a low profile too" Max said as he pulls the hood over his head
"Why's that, Max?" asked Gus
"Look over there" Max said as he points to a nearby wanted poster of him. Gus and Willow turn to see a wanted poster of him with a bounty of $2000
"Oh my" said Gus in surprise
"You're wanted?" Willow asked in surprise
"Yeah. You see, Max here was experimented on by those guards and now has powers. If he's discovered, then he's shipped off to the slammer along with the Owl Lady" Shartok explained
"So please don't turn me in" begged Max
"No way. Why would we do that? You don't seem bad and you're actually pretty cool" Gus said
"Besides, after the help you and Luz gave me back at Hexside, there's no way I could do that. You're our friend, Max and we will always help you" Willow assured
"Thanks guys" Max said with a smile
"So, shall we head in?" Luz asked
"Let's just get this over with" Eda groaned as they all went inside.
Once they got inside, they see many banners for 10 covens
"Wow" Max said in awe
"Was I even alive before now?" Luz asked
"Those are the main nine covens, but there are hundreds of other ones you can join." explained Gus
They walked through the building where they see a lot of stands for different kinds of covens
"There's Flower Coven, Artist Coven, Big Dog Coven, Small Cat Coven, Tiniest Cat Coven—" Willow counted
Eda lets a groan from hearing this
"Also the Grumpy Coven." whispered Willow
"What was that?!" yelled Eda while raising her fist
"Uh oh!" Shartok yelped as he, Max, King, Luz, Gus, and Willow ran off
Max was looking at all the different stands that have different covens.
"Who knew there are so many covens that a witch can choose from" Max said
"That's true. The coven system was created by Emperor Belos so that witches can do any type of magic of their choosing. Only problem is that they can't do other kinds of magic once they join said coven" Shartok explained
"I see" Max said with a little worry.
Luz then notices something
"Ooh, what's that?" she asked with a point
"That's the Construction Coven." Willow answered
They see a construction witch some construction tools and toss them in the air to create a small house. Max was impressed by this. The construction from his world was slower than what he had just witnessed.
"One of the main nine. They use power glyphs to increase their strength." Willow explained
"The construction witch then takes out a power glyph from his hard hat and place it on the Conspiracy Prisoner that Max and Luz previously met back in the Conformatorium. The prisoner's eyes then shrinks and she screams as power surges in her.
"Ha-a-a! I'm the destroyer of worlds!" she yelled as she tosses the construction witch in the air and begins to throw the Construction Coven sign. She then grabs a nearby hammer.
"Hey, that's the opposite of construction!" yelled another construction witch as he and another witch runs in to stop her
"Whoa! They oughta rename it the Destruction Coven. It clearly fits" joked Shartok
Max looks on in surprise
"Yowza-wowza!" Luz said as an illusion appeared next to her
"Yowza-wowza!" repeated the illusion of Luz which surprises the real Luz
"Yowza-wha-a-a?" asked gasped Luz as the illusion went to the Illusion Coven. It waves at her and disappears
"Ah! You've been taken in by the allure of the Illusionist Coven. We like to magic with a hint of showmanship." Gus said as he disappears and reappears at the booth
"Impressive, Gus. It's no guest that you'll fit in that coven" Max said
"Thanks, Max" replied Gus
"Wow! Acceptance? Comradery? A sense of belonging? Covens sound incredible! Eda, why haven't you ever joined one?" Luz asked the Owl Lady
"Watch closely, Luz." Eda replied as she points to a witch that has joined the Illusion Coven. "When you join a coven, all your other magic is sealed away."
They watch to see the witch being given an Illusionist mark. It then flows through his body.
"See. I told you" Shartok whispered to Max
"From now on, that kid will only be able to make illusions. Since I never joined a coven, I can do every kind of magic. That's why I'm the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles." Eda answered as she does different kinds of magic
"I get you, Eda. Why would you be restricted by one type of magic, when you can do all kinds of them" Max said
"Glad to see you agree with me, Max" Eda said as they all moved on
They then came across a panel with guards hanging around. A lot of people were going in
"That panel looks popular." Luz said
"It's the Emperor's Coven! Do you think they'll sign my forehead?" gasped Gus
Max gasped when he heard this. He already knows that they were the ones that made him into who he is now
"Only one way to find out!" said Willow as she and Gus runs in
Luz is about to walk in, but stops when she sees that Eda and Max were not moving
"Aren't you coming, Eda, Max?" she asked
"No way. Of all the covens, they're the worst. I'll wait out here." Eda said
"Me too. After what those guys did to me, I don't think I should be in here" Max added
"Unless we risked getting caught" Shartok added
"I get it, Eda. Covens: bad. Individualism: good. And Max, I understand if you feel uncomfortable about this. If you don't want to come, that's okay with me. But I'm still figuring this world out, so I'm going to go in there and make up my own mind, okay?" Luz said as she walks in
"I just saw her."
Eda, Max, and Shartok look to see a man talking to a guard
"She's over there. I think that's her!" the man said as he points at Eda
"Uh-oh. Come on you two!" Eda said as she runs in the doorway
"Right behind ya!" Max said as he and Shartok follows after her
Inside a stadium, Eda, Max, and Shartok found Luz and sat next to her.
"All right, let's see this mess." Eda said
"What happened to waiting outside?" Luz whispered to Max
"Let's just say that Eda almost got caught. And if she gets caught, then so will I." Max replied
"And besides, it's not like we have a choice" Shartok responded
"I see" Luz said
Then the lights went out and Principal Bump appears from the floor in a spiral of green magic. The crowd applauds as he summons a mic
"Hello, Bonesborough! Students ask me all the time, 'Principal Bump, what's the height of magical achievement?'" he said
"Is it this?" said a student as he uses magic to make his head grow big, but cause him to fall on another student
"Wow. I failed you as a principal. It's being selected to join the best of the best. And there are none better than the jewel of the coven system and the enforcers of his will, the Emperor's Coven." Principal Bump said as three coven members appear.
Max narrows his eyes at the guards.
"Whoa" Luz said
She notices Willow and Gus and waves at them
"Luz" they said as they pointed to Gus' forehead that has been signed
"Feast your eyes on this elite force, each member handpicked to help usher in a new age of controlled magic." Principal Bump said
The three coven members both traced a white circle over their heads. Fire, water, and lightning comes out of each of them. They shot up in the sky to create a firework of confetti. Luz catches some while Shartok shakes them off of him
"When does that 'elite force' get here?" Eda asked a demon sitting next to him with a laugh
"Members of the Emperor's Coven have access to all—yes, all forms of magic. Ooh. Aah." Principal Bump says
"Ooh. Aah." the crowd repeated
"But... only the best can ascend these ranks. Some day that could be one of you!" Principal Bump says as he points directly at Amity. She squeals at that
"Amity?" Max said quietly as he saw her
"That girl from Hexside?" Shartok asked. Max nods his head
The three members then vanishes off the stage while the principal stepped.
"And now, I'm pleased to introduce the esteemed leader of this coven and this year's mystery guest. You know her, you love her! Lilith!" he announced
Eda stopped her laughing
"Huh?"
A blue raven then appeared from above and lands on the stage to reveal an adult woman. She had ivory skin and indigo hair. She then removes her mask
"Do you know her?" Max asked as he notice Eda's surprised look
"Mysterious past!" gasped Luz
Lilith then removes her cloak
"Thank you, all. It wasn't easy for me to rise to the top. I also started from humble beginnings." she said
"Like me?" asked the same male student
"Now I have the highest honor of enforcing the Emperor's will. So be more! The Emperor's Coven awaits you!" Lilith declared as she created the raven illusion and made several blue balls with a pose. Eda glares at her.
Eda left the stadium with Max, Shartok, and Luz following after her.
"Where are you going?" Max asked as he took off his hood
"I'm gonna head home and wash the con funk off my skin." Eda replied
"But we haven't even taken the quiz to determine our coven type!" Luz said as she takes out a magazine that shows a page that says "What Coven Are You In?" and holds it over her head
Eda cast a laser beam to burn a hole through the magazine and walks off
"Maybe we should leave her be for a while" Max said
"Agreed. At least let her cool off" Shartok replied
They both walked off when they accidentally bumped into Amity
"Watch where you—Oh, it's you two. Willow's... abomination thing and the so called transfer student" Amity said with narrows her eyes.
"Uh... Hey, Amity. So, funny story. Not an abomination. Sorry for the confusion last week. I-I'm Luz. The human" Luz greeted with her hand out
"And I'm also not really a transfer student. Sorry if I deceived you. My name is Max. I'm a human too." Max said as he also held out her hand
"And I'm Shartok. His best friend" Shartok replied
Amity gasped when she heard Shartok talk
'A talking bat?' she thought. Amity then shook her head. "Ugh. Put those away. And apology not accepted. You two got me in trouble with Principal Bump and I never get in trouble"
"Oh really? You seem to be okay with him trying to dissect Luz" Max reminded
"Look, you two can't be here. This covention is for witches only" Amity said
"Well, I'm learning how to be a witch." Luz replied
"And I'm learning how to master my powers" Max added
"Plus, we're receiving magic lessons from a powerful witch and a ferocious demon." Luz said
"Is that your ferocious demon there?" Amity asked as she looks over their shoulders
They look to see King wearing a t-shirt, a scarf, and a cap. He was even holding a cupcake as two bakers were following him
"Cupcakes in my tummy-tum makes the King say yummy-yum!" the little demon said
"So you'll join the Bakers Coven?" one of the bakers asked as King eats the cupcake
" Hmm... Nope!" he answered as he took another cupcake and runs off
"Whoa. Looks like his royal highness is having the time of his life" Shartok said
"Oh, hey, guys! Look at all those offerings" King said as he runs up to them. He accidentally trips on his scarf and drops his cupcake. "Whoa!"
"King, you okay?" asked Max
"Yeah. I guess" King replied as he looked at the cupcake he dropped. Amity then stomps on it causing Shartok, Luz, and King to gasp
"Oops. That was an accident." Amity said with a smirk
"Why did you do that?!" Max yelled
"Because, you two and your pets are giving witches a bad name!" Amity answered
"We are not pets!" King and Shartok yelled
"He's a good boy and the King of Demons!" Luz said
"And Shartok is the best companion I could ever ask for!" Max added
" I'll tell you what, Amity. It's one thing to say I can't be a witch—" Luz said as she stood up
" 'Cause you can't." Amity said
"...but it's another thing to bully my friends. Just like The Good Witch Azura said when facing down her rival Hecate at the Bog of Immediate Regret... I challenge you to a Witch's Duel!" Luz declared which caused everyone around them to gasp.
"Uh. Can you excuse us for just a moment?" Max asked
Amity nods her head as she narrows her eyes. Max grabs Luz by the arm and leads a few feet away with Shartok still on his shoulder
"Luz, what are you doing?" whispered Max
"I'm challenging Amity to a duel. She just trampled on King's cupcake. I can't let that slide" Luz answered
"I admire you for standing up for King, but I don't think challenging her to a duel is a good idea" whispered Max. "Let me duel her instead"
"What? Why?" Luz asked
"You just learned the light glyph. You don't know any other spells" Max replied
"Yeah. You're still a beginner. If you duel her now, you'll get slaughtered. Best to let Max handle it" Shartok added
Seeing that Max and Shartok both have a point, Luz has no choice but to concede
"Okay" Luz sighed
They walked back to Amity who was tapping her foot impatiently
"Well?" she asked
"We talked it over and we decided that I will duel you in Luz's place" Max declared making the covention goers gasp again.
Amity walks up to Max
"I accept. I always wanted to have a match with you after that performance back at Hexside" she said "Let's set the terms for this duel, shall we?"
"Gladly. One. If I win, then you will apologize to King for stomping on his cupcake" Max said
"Goodnight, sweet child." King said as he cradled his squashed cupcake
"And two, you admit that humans can be witches too." Luz added
"Fine by me. But when I win, not only will she have to tell the entire covention that she is not a witch and give up on training... forever... but you will have to admit that I am better than you. That also includes giving up on mastering your powers too" Amity said
Luz, Max, and Shartok gasped at this
"What's wrong? Having second thoughts?" taunted Amity
"You wish. Max can take you on" Shartok retorted
"Do it Max! For my honor!" King called
"Very well. Let's shake on it, Blight" Max said as he held out his hand.
Amity draws a circle around his hand and shakes it
"The everlasting oath is sealed." she said
"Heh heh. Great" Max said nervously
"Meet back inside the theater in one hour. Let's see how powerful you really are" Amity said as she walks away
"I can take her right?" Max asked
"Of course you can. You have your powers" Shartok said
"King, you think Max can beat her?" Luz asked
"Mmm? Oh, yeah. No" King said as he ate her cupcake
"That's not reassuring" Shartok said
"We need to find Eda" Max said
Eda was trying to find her way out of the Covention.
"Sister?"
The Owl Lady turns to see Lilith with a bunch of kids
"It's been so long since I've seen you last! What are you wearing? You look like some sort of trash collector. Oh, right. You are." she said
"Oh, Lily. I just had to see the leader of the Emperor's Coven in action." Eda said as she begins to lean to the studetns. "You know, when we were kids, Lilith was so excited to see the Emperor's Coven, she peed a little."
This caused the students to snicker and causing Lilith to blush.
"That—That's all for today." she said as she shooed the students away. "You shouldn't even be here. You're a wanted criminal! Unless... I don't believe it! You are here to join the Emperor's Coven!" Lilith gasped
Eda laughs at what her sister had said
"In your dreams." she chortled
"You think being covenless makes you so much smarter than everyone else. But while you run from the law like a degenerate, I'm mentoring the next generation of powerful witch students into the world." Lilith said
"Well, I have some students. And I bet they could wipe the floor with any of your prissy little blue bloods." Eda said
"Is that a challenge?" Lilith said as she walks up to Eda
"Oh, it's a promise." Eda replied while narrowing her eyes
Then, Max, Shartok, and Luz runs in
"Eda! Thank goodness we found you! I challenged Amity to a duel, but Max talked me into dueling her in my place!" Luz yelled
Lilith gasped upon seeing Max
"I know you. You're the Emperor's failed experiment" she said
"Only he isn't a failed one anymore" Shartok retorted
"Silence, vermin" Lilith said
"Hey! Don't talk about my friend like that!" Max scolded
"Who is she, Eda?" Luz asked
"Kids. This is Lilith, my older sister" Eda introduced
"Why didn't you tell us you had a sister" Max said
"It's not something I like to talk about" Eda replied
"Now that the introductions are out of the way, it seems your students has met my strongest protégé. I mean what is this? Two humans and a talking bat? Where did you find these?" Lilith asked. "Okay, Edalyn."
She casts a spell to destroy all the wanted posters of Eda and Max
"For one day, you and the experiment won't have to hide from the law, because I want to see how good a teacher you really are." Lilith said as she walks away
"Edalyn?" Shartok ask
"It's my full name. Don't laugh" Eda answered. "Come on, kid. Time to prepare for bloodshed."
"But... whose blood?" Luz asked
"Anyone's guess" Eda replied with a chuckle
"I don't like the sound of that" Shartok gulped
Eda then puts on a head band as she is ready for training
"Alright, Max. Let's start your training! Now, I'm coming at you with a blast of fire. What do you do?" Eda asked
"Hmm. I would block the attack while in my fire form" answered Max
"Just like back with Warden Wrath" Shartok pointed out
"Shhh" Luz shushed
"Not bad, kid. But wait! I'm coming at you with a water spell. What do you do now?" Eda asked
"I would just jump out of the way" Max answered
"But what if I do it again full power?" Eda asked
Max widens his eyes
"Oh yeah. You only have your fire powers. You haven't unlocked other abilities yet" Eda said. "Boy, I hope you didn't make an everlasting oath to stop learning magic or stop mastering you powers."
" I-Is there a glowy hand thing that happens" Luz asked nervously
"Hey, don't worry about it. I may only have my fire powers, but I can still take Amity on" Max said confidently
"Abonination, rise!"
They turn to see Lilith watching Amity cast a spell to summon an Abomination. It rips off it's head and throws it at a nearby Coven booth and knocking a member down
"Still think you can take her?" Shartok asked
"Uh, yep." Max replied
"I hope so. If you can't then I'll have to stop learning magic and you will have to give up on controlling your powers" Luz added nervously
Eda narrows her eyes as the headband snaps off her head
At the theater, Eda, Max, Shartok were at the side while Luz is behind them while Lilith and Amity are across from them
"Beloved citizens, the Emperor's Coven proudly presents an impromptu demonstration of the sort of witch we seek every year. Introducing Amity Blight." announced Lilith
The crowd cheered
"Go Amity!" a fan cheered
"Versus... some human boy" Lilith introduced
Everybody was surprised
"A human?" a student puzzled
"Humans can't do magic!" another student yelled
"He's not Amity!" another student added
Willow and Gus exchange nervous looks
"Well. Good luck, buddy. You're gonna need it" Shartok said
"Thanks, Shartok" Max said
Eda places a hand on Max's shoulder
"Hey. Do your best out there" she said
Max nods his head as he walks up
"Good luck, Max" Luz said
Max then faces Amity
"Are you ready? I can't wait to settle the score with you back at Hexside" the Blight girl said
"Oh yeah" Max replied as he cracks his knuckles
'Let's see what you're really made of, experiment' thought Lilith
The bell then screams as the duel begins.
"Abomination, rise!" Amity said as she summons her Abomination. It appears to be three times bigger than it's original size
"Oh my!" Max said in surprise
"He's doomed" gulped Shartok
"Whoa! Show me what you got, human!" Amity said
"Gladly!" Max replied. He then yells and powers up into his pyro form which shocks everyone
The abomination attempts to stomp on him, but he dives to the right. Max then shoots a fire from his hand which burns it's foot
"Is that all?" Amity taunted
"Not even close" Max replied
The abomination put out the fire on it's foot. It then takes off it's head and throws it and Max. But Max shoots more fire at the head which splatters it, but the Abomination regrows it's head. The Abomination then attempts to punch him with it's fist. Max then shoots a fireball at the arm which solidifies it and allows him to punch through it. He then shot more fireballs at the other joints of the Abomination causing him to groan in pain. Amity gasped at this
"Yeah! You got it Max!" Shartok yelled
"Go Max!" Luz yelled
"How do you like him now, sister?" Eda asked Lilith
"Not impressed" Lilith replied
Max then leaps up and pounds the ground with his fist, causing a massive shockwave of fire that knocks the Abomination and Amity to the ground.
King then scats as he walks into the theater
"Things that are free. People are giving offerings to me! I love offerings!" he sang as he reaches Willow and Gus. "What did I miss?"
"Max is in a witch's duel" Willow answered
"And he's really killing it out there. Oh yeah!" exclaimed Gus
Max then runs in and punches and does spin attacks on the the Abomination just as it get up. He continues to attack which knocks some it's limbs off.
"How did you that?" Amity asked
"Just skills I learn back home. But I won't bore you with the details" Max replied
"This I gotta see" King said as he climbs down the steps
"Go Amity!" said a student who is waving a foam finger
"Hey! You root for Max or nobody!" King yelled, but he accidentally trips on his scarf and begins to fall down the stairs. He nearly fell into the theater, but he grabs onto the ledge.
As the Abomination got up, Max then threw several fireballs at it. As it hits, the fireballs go through the Abomination to make holes in it
"Keep going, Max!" Shartok called
"Again again again!" Eda chanted
'I must admit. For an experiment, he's not bad' thought Lilith
Amity growls in anger
"That's it! I will not let some human beat me! Abomination, get him!" she ordered
The Abomination fills the holes on it. Max gets into a battle stance and prepares to fight again, but then he powers down.
"Oh no!" he cried
"He powered down!" Shartok yelled
"That's not good!" Eda said with worry
"Max!" Luz cried
The Abomination attempts to punch him, but Max dives out of the way and runs as the goopy creature chases him
"Of all the days to power down, now is a bad time!" Max yelled
The Abomination begins to shoot punch and stomp at Max, but he dodges each of them. Unfortunately, he trips on the ground. The abomination was now towering over him.
"End of the line, human. Now Abomination, finish him!" Amity ordered
The Abomination then launches a fist at Max
"MAX!" yelled Eda, Shartok, Luz, King, Willow, and Gus
Max closed his eyes as he attempts to bring his fire powers back
'Come on. Change back. Change back!' thought Max frantically
Suddenly, his eyes glows yellow. Just as the Abomination fist got closer, Max's body turns yellow and he zips out of the way and turns to face his opponent. The others were shocked by Max's new form.
"What the?" Amity puzzled
"Impossible!" Lilith said
"Whoa! It looks like Max has a new form" Shartok said
"Yeah. That must be his electric form" Eda added
"I'm just glad that he's okay" Luz said with a relief look on her face
"Wow" Max said as he looks at his new form. Then he shows a determined look
Max then zips over to the Abomination. It attempts to punch him again, but Max then shoots out some electricity from his hands at the Abomination, causing it pain. The abomination attempts to kick Max, but he dodges the attack again. Max then continues to pour on more electricity on the gooey creature which causes it to explode into pieces. Part of it got onto Max's cheeks
"Eew. Gross" he said as he wiped it off
"NO!" screamed Amity as she collapse to the ground and poun her fist
"The audience was shocked by what happened, but they then begin to cheer for Max's victory.
"He won!" Luz cheered
"Way to go, buddy!" Shartok yelled
"Hot dog! He did it!" Eda said with a smile
"Yay Max!" King cheered
"Go, Max!" Willow yelled
"Whoohooo!" Gus yelled
"Very impressive" Principal Bump said as he watched the whole thing
"Looks like the experiment won. Come Amity, let's congratulate the victor." Lilith said
"What?" Amity asked
"He won fair and square. The least we can do is show good sportsmanship and a little dignity" Lilith replied
"Okay" Amity sighed
Max then powers down and then waves to the audience cheering for him. Then, Shartok flew over and landed on Max's left shoulder
"You did it, buddy! You beat her" Shartok said
"Thanks, Shartok" Max said
Luz then runs in and hugs Max very tightly
"I'm so proud of you Max." Luz said with tears in her eyes
"I know Luz. Now we won't have to give up training to be a witch and training my powers." Max said as Luz lets go
Eda then walks up to Max. She then puts a hand on his right shoulder
"Not bad kid" the Owl Lady
"Thanks, Eda" Max said
They turn to see Lilith and Amity walk up to them
"Young man, I would like to congratulate you on your victory. You really showed your skills with that performance." Lilith said
"Thank you" Max replied
"Do you have something to say to the victor, Amity?" Lilith asked
Max notices that Amity clearly looked upset. The Blight girl cleared her throat and spoke up
"Yes. I have to admit, Max. Although humans are not capable of learning magic, you were able to beat me with those powers. You were actually pretty good, but don't think this is over. I will have a rematch with you someday" Amity said as she starts to walk away. As she does that, Eda notices something on the back of her neck.
"Wait just a sec, Miss Protégé." the Owl Lady said as she grabs Amity by the hood and lifts the back of her hair
"Hey! What are you?" Amity said
Eda then removes a sticker from her head. Doing so caused the abomination goo turn to dust
"A power glyph from the Construction Coven." Eda said as she held up the sticker
Everyone gasped at this
"She cheated" Willow whispered to Gus
"Ah-ha! Yes, yes, yes-yes-yes! You cheated. Perfect, prissy Lilith cheated. Hot dang, I love coventions! La-la-la" Eda taunted her sister
"I only did that because I knew you would cheat!" Lilith replied
"Still cheated! Welcome down to my level!" Eda continued to teased
"Whoa. No wonder that Abomination was huge" Shartok said
"Amity" Max said as he looked at her in shock
"But... I didn't know!" Amity said as she run out of the theater
"Amity. Wait!" Max yelled as he and Shartok runs after her
"Max!" Luz said as she chased after them
"Wait for me" King said as he follows them
Max and Shartok run out of the theater.
"Where did she go?" Max asked
"Over there" Shartok said as he points to a dark corner.
They see Amity sulking at a dark corner
"You mind if I talk to her alone, buddy?" Max asked
"Sure thing" Shartok said as he flew off his shoulder and lands on the floor.
Max then walks over to her
"Amity. I'm sorry" Max said
"Ugh, seriously? Just leave me alone." Amity
"I didn't mean to embarrass you." Max said
"That's all you and your friend ever do! First at school and now this!" Amity yelled
"That wasn't our intention" Max replied
Luz ran out of the theater and sees Max and Amity talking. She looks at Shartok who gives her a sign to be quiet.
"You made me look like a fool in front of the Emperor's Coven. My future! You think it's easy to have all these powers?! I have been working my whole life to get to the top!" Amity ranted
Max just stared at her as Amity breathes
"But it's still not enough. Because I was beaten by you" Amity sighed
"Amity. I had no idea" Max said as he widens his eyes
Amity blinks in surprise
Luz and Shartok watch as Max and Amity continue to talk
"You really think that it's easy for me control these powers I have? Ever since I was experimented on by those guards, I had trouble controlling them. But Amity, I also understand that you worked really hard to be the best, but that doesn't mean you have to look down on others. Take Willow for example, she may not be good at making Abominations, but she is good at making plants." Max explained
"What's your point?" Amity asked
"My point is everyone is different. That doesn't mean you have to treat people so poorly because of that." Max replied
"How do you know so much about this?" Amity asked
"Let's just say that I have been bullied for being different from where I'm from. As for me and Luz, it's true that humans cannot do magic, but Luz is learning to be one. In fact, she actually learned the light spell. I also gave it a try and it's not that hard" Max said
Luz smiled when she heard him say that
"That's nothing. A child could do a light spell." Amity said as she turns away
"Maybe so, but Luz is working really hard to be a witch just like how I'm working hard to control my powers" Max said
Amity turns back around and forms a circle and pulls Max's hand in
"The oath is unbound" she said as she walks off
"I suppose that means Luz can continue training and I can continue to master my powers" Max said
"Humans have no magical ability. But I doubt that'll stop your friend. As for you, you better learn how to master your powers. I might have that rematch with you someday" Amity replied as she walks off
Luz and Shartok watched as she walks away. Max notices them and walks up to them
"Max" Luz said
"Hey Luz. How long have you been standing there?" Max asked as Shartok flew on his shoulder
"Just long enough to hear your conversation with Amity" Luz replied "Looks like I can still train to be a witch and you can still train your powers"
"Yep" Max said
"So, she just lets you two train just like that?" Shartok asked
"Mmm hmm. I guess she's not so bad after all" Max replied
"Hey guys!" King said as he runs up to them
"Hi King!" they said
"Hey, your highness. Aren't you gonna get more offerings?" Shartok asked
"Nah. That stuff just weighed me down. But I have something for you, Max. And it's the best thing, because it's free, comes from my heart, and I always have more than I need." King said
"Is it love?" Luz asked
"Ugh! No!" King said as he takes something out from behind him. "Tote bags! And they have so many uses!"
King leaps on Max's arm and puts the tote bag on. He then get in
"Away, fair chariot! Away!" he said
Max can only chuckle nervously
"As long as it makes you happy" Shartok says
"We gotta go." Eda says as she comes in
"How'd you get away from Lilith?" asked Luz
"Let's just say she had a real 'snack attack.' Hah" Eda snorted
"Wait. What did you do?" Max asked
"To make a long story short, me and Lily dueled and I distracted her to escape" Eda replied
"Oh" Max said
"Eda, do you think I'll ever be a true witch?" Luz asked
"What? I don't know. And who's a true witch? These suckers? According to them, that means being in a coven, but I never joined one and I'm better than all of them combined. You gotta be your own witch." Eda said
This made Luz brighten up
"My own witch." she repeated
Max and Shartok smile
"Now, let's go before my sister realizes I tied her pointy shoes together." Eda said
They hear Lilith scream
"And that's our cue!" Eda said as they begin to leave
Just then, Principal Bump runs up
"Excuse me!" he said
They turn to him
"Yes?" Max asked
"Tell me, young man. What is your name?" Principal Bump asked
"My name is Max. Max Corven" Max replied
"Is there something you want to talk to him about?" Eda asked as she narrows her eyes
"Yes. I saw your performance with Ms. Blight back at the theater. I was really impressed by the powers you also possessed. So with that said, I would like to invite you to attend Hexside School of Magic and Demonics" Principal Bump said
"What!?" Max asked
"What?!" Shartok asked
"What!?" Eda asked
"What!?" King asked
"Really?!" Luz asked
"Yes. You heard me. I would like to invite you, Max back to attend Hexside" Principal Bump said
"I mean no disrespect, sir, but aren't I banned from Hexside?" Max asked
"That's true. But as the principal of this school, I can lift your ban. So what do you say?" Principal Bump asked
Max begins to think about it. He looks to Eda, King, Luz, and Shartok. Luz nods her head at him. Eda shook her head while King, and Shartok shrug their shoulders.
"If it's all the same to you, Principal Bump. Can I at least think about it?" he asked
"Of course, Max. Let me know you have decided." Principal Bump said as he walks away
"Wow. Principal Bump just invited you back to Hexside" Luz said
"Good on ya, buddy." Shartok replied
"Yeah. Congratulations" King added
"Heh heh. Thanks" Max said
"Okay. Let's get out of here" Eda said
The gang then walks out of the building
"Sister? Now that's a mysterious past payoff!" Luz said
"Oh, you think that's all the mystery I got? Wait until you hear about my parents" Eda replied
"You have parents? You have got to tell us more about your whole family" Max said
"What he said" Shartok said
"You very much don't!" King responded
Meanwhile in another room, Lilith comes in and trips due to Eda tying her shoes. She gets up
"You make it so hard to want to help you, Edalyn." she muttered
A mirror opens to reveal the Emperor's insignia which makes her gasp. On it shows a small creature with a hand for hair. This is Kikimora.
"Lilith, I see you let The Owl Lady get the best of your temper. Just remember what Emperor Belos has promised to you." she said
"I will capture her, ma'am. Along with the experiment. You have my word." Lilith said
" Very good." Kikimora said as she cuts the transmission
"You're days are numbered, Edalyn" Lilith said.
