Lost in Language
In the Owl House, Luz was reading an Azura book to King while Max and Shartok were looking at something on Max's phone.
"'Azura," Hecate began. 'Our paths have crossed only in battle. But today I stand before you seeking an ally.' Luz read with a sigh
"Luz, you're getting all swoony again." King said
"I can't help it. Azura is able to befriend everyone. Even her biggest rival. I wish I had that kind of power." Luz replied
"Why would you want that power when you already have friends?" Max asked
"Yeah, you have us, Eda, King, Willow, and Gus as friends. What more do you want?" Shartok asked
"Rivals are meant to be annihilated, not befriended. Now keep reading. I've been sucked into your awful fandom." King ordered
"By the way, Max. Are you watching something on your phone?" Luz asked
"Actually, I was just showing Shartok the basic rules of playing Dungeons & Dragons" Max replied as he shows them the D&D website to them on his phone. "As you can see here, you need to create a character depending on what race you want to be and choosing a class for them like a wizard, ranger, or druid. You would also need to provide a backstory for your character."
"Cool" King said
"Yeah. Like, if I were to make a character for that game, it would be a human female wizard named 'Luzura the Friendly'" Luz replied
"Good name, Luz" Max said
"What are the other rules, pal?" Shartok asked
"The other rule is that you need 7 set of dices. Each one of them should be a 4-sided, a 6-sided, an 8-sided, a 10-sided, a 12-sided, and a 20-sided" Max explained
"Why do you need those dices?" King asked
"Well, King. The player must use those dices to determine the actions of their character whether they succeed or fail. And as I said before, it requires math." Max replied. "The other rule is the use of magic. It can be useful to players who choose to be a wizard, sorcerer, or warlock."
Luz squealed at that
"And the final rule is someone as the Dungeon Master" Max said
"What's a Dungeon Master?" asked Shartok
"The Dungeon Master is pretty much the narrator and referee of the game. When you're a Dungeon Master, you get to control the actions of what happens in the game and provide the challenges for the players." Max explained
"Wow. So does that mean I get to command what happens in that role?" King asked
"In a way, yes. But you first need to have an understanding of the game" Max replied
Luz and Shartok both nod their heads at hearing the rules
"Okay, now that the rules have been explained. Keep reading, Luz. I've been sucked into your awful fandom." King said
"Okay okay. 'Suddenly the door swung open'" Luz read
"Ding-dong. Ding. Hoot! Hoot!" Hooty said as he opens the door
"The book has come to life! Burn it!" King yelled
"Relax, King. It's just Hooty" Shartok said
"I'll get it" chuckled Max as he got up from the couch and walks over. He looks down to see a basket. "What's this?"
Max picks up the basket and brings it into the kitchen with the others joining him. He place it on the table
"Hey Eda. You got a package" he said
"It looks like a gift basket" Luz added
"Probably an offering. Ah! Being the most powerful witch in the Boiling Isles has its perks." Eda said
'Yeah right' thought Shartok
King uncovers pulls down a blanket to reveal a sleeping baby
"Mm. Fresh meat." King said as he rubs his paws
"Whoa whoa whoa whoa! You are not eating that!" Shartok yelled as he flew in front of King
"What are you doing, Shartok?" King asked
"I know this creature. This is a baby bat. And it's not food" Shartok said
"Shartok is right. I am not eating a baby" Luz said
"Me too. I don't think it will taste good" Max added
"Witches eating babies is so 1693. What is this?" Eda asked as he notices a note attached to the basket
"There's a note" King said as he took the note and reads it. "Take care of my child till morning. Yi Yi."
"Nope. Babies are awful. Not happening." Eda said
"Wait. There's more" Shartok said as he took the note from King and reads it. "You will be handsomely rewarded. X-O-X-O-X-O-X. Bat Queen."
"Bat Queen?" Eda asked
King took out some snails from the basket
"Reward" Eda said as she looked at the coins
"Who is this Bat Queen?" Max asked as he and Luz walks up
"Only the wealthiest demon in the Boiling Isles" Shartok answered
"Get in with her and you're set for life." Eda added
"I should also bring up the fact that I was raised by the Bat Queen" Shartok said
Everybody were shocked by what the bat said
"You were raised by the Bat Queen?" Luz asked
"Uh huh. She found me when I was just little. She raised me with her other babies until it was time for me to leave the nest" Shartok explained.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Max asked
"You never asked" Shartok replied
"Anyway, we keep this thing alive for a few hours and we get paid. Pfft. Easy." Eda said
"That's easy for you to say. Babysitting is a lot harder than you think" Max replied
"Our greatest adventure yet! Learning about love and life through a child's eyes." Luz said
"Not you. You two have to return the books I checked out from the library." Eda replied as she summon a stacks of books which the two humans were able to catch.
"Um, okay" Max said as he and Luz walks to the door
"I don't want them getting a cut of the loot." Eda said to King
"Good thinking" King said
They then notice that Shartok didn't move
"Aren't you going with them?" King asked
"Nah. I'm staying to look after the baby. We are bats after all" Shartok said
"Suit yourself. Now, let's take a look at this little darling." Eda said as she takes the blanket off.
But this proves to be a mistake, as the bat baby begins to screech very loudly. This caused Eda and Shartok to cover their ears while King fell over
"Ah!" Eda yelled
"Oh boy!" King yelled
"You shouldn't have done that!" Shartok yelled
"On second thought, maybe we could use your help!" Eda called
"We better get to the library" Luz said
"Yeah. Good luck with your babysitting!" Max added. "See you real soon"
And with that, they walked out the house and closed the door
"We got this right?" Eda asked
"I think so" Shartok replied unsure
The baby bat then latches onto Eda's face, knocking her down
"Oh no" Shartok said before flying after them
Max and Luz were walking through the streets of Bonesborough. They walked passed the tiny nosed demon who was carrying a book as big as the stack they were carrying.
"Huh? Whoa!" Luz yelled as she nearly tripped
"Careful. Don't want to lose your balance" Max said
"Thanks, Max" Luz said
The two humans continue to walk until they see a large building
"Whoa" Luz said
"Now that's a library" Max added
They walked inside. But just as they did that, the stack of books flew out of their hands and into a red circle made by a man in the front desk who is in fact the librarian. The circles beep to indicate that the book is overdue.
"Late. Late. Late" He said until he catches the last book. "Coffee, grass and bloodstains? These are Eda's, aren't they?
"Yup. Sorry about that" Max said
"That was a crazy night." Luz added
"I'll put them on her tab." groaned the librarian as he summons a scroll and writes on it. "By the way, we're closing early for the Wailing Star meteor shower."
He points to a poster of the Wailing Star
"What's the Wailing Star?" asked Max
"You're in a library. Read a book." the librarian said as the scroll disappears.
"I am in a library. I will read a book." Luz said before grabbing Max by the arm. "Come on, Max!"
"Whoa!" Max yelled as he was dragged away by his friend
"Shh!" The librarian shushed
Max and Luz walked around a corner and sees a Demon Decimal System. Max looks up to see a banner that says: Demon Decimal System DO NOT FEED. He then looks to see Luz kneeling down and taking out a gumball
"Uh, Luz. I don't think you should do that" Max warned
"Oh come on, Max. What's the harm?" Luz asked as she feed one of the faces the gum. "Bloop"
The face chewed the gum and then barfed a lot of decimal cards at her. This made her friend face palm
"I warned ya" Max said as he begins to pick up the decimal cards
The two humans then found themselves on the balcony where they see some books floating around
"Wow" Luz said. She grabs one of the books and ends getting taken along for the ride. She screams as this happened
"Luz!" yelled Max. He grabs one of the books and floats after her
"Shhh" said some readers on the bottom floor
"Sorry" Max replied
After finding a way to get off the floating books. Max and Luz then find themselves in the reference section where they witnessed some witches watching some stuff on crystal balls.
"This place is amazing." Luz said
"Yeah. It's definitely a lot different compared to the library back home" Max added
"What do you think you're doing?" asked a familiar voice
"I've been caught. Pretend to be a book." Luz said as she did a pose
"Hold on a second, Luz. I think we know that voice" Max said
Luz stops posing as she and Max heard laughter. They head over to the kid's area to see Amity Blight reading a book to some children.
"'We're your friends and we wanna help,' said the Tin Boy with a yelp. Otabin smiled and paced the floor. 'I've never had real friends before.'" Amity read
"Amity reading to kids?" asked Luz
"Who knew" Max replied
They then snuck inside and hid behind a shelf
"'Then we'll be your first,' the Chicken Witch clucked. Otabin couldn't believe his luck. So, Bookmaker Otabin surrounded by friends, bound a book of friendship and that's the end." Amity read as she closes the book which earns her an applause from the kids.
"Amity seems so...nice and smiley." Luz said
"I guess it's true what they say: Never judge a book by it's cover" Max replied. "No pun intended"
"Maybe I can befriend her like Azura befriended her rival." Luz said with a gasp
They duck down when they see the kids leaving the area.
"Thank you so much." one of the kids
"Goodbye" another kid said
As Amity waved goodbye to the children, a red kid hugs Amity's leg.
"Goodbye, Miss Amity. Thank you." he said
"Thank you, Braxas. See you next time." Amity said as she pats him on the head
"Yay!" the kid known as Braxas cheered as he heads off
Amity then spots Luz and Max nearby. Luz was hiding under a book while Max was crouched down with a nervous grin on his face.
"Ugh! You two" Amity said while narrowing her eyes
"Heh heh. Hey, Amity. Fancy seeing you here" Max replied nervously as he and Luz got up
"Yeah. Reading to kids. Wow. Looks like this sour lemon drop has a hidden sweet center." Luz joked as she accidentally knocked a book over
"It's for extra credit. Don't get your leggings in a bunch" Amity replied as she puts the book that fell down back and walks off with Luz and Max following her
"Hey, I could help with the kids. We could take turns reading. And do voices. I do the best monster voice." Luz said in a robotic voice
"You do know that's a robot's voice, right?" Max asked
"Shh" Luz shushed him
Amity slams the books she was holding on a table in frustration
"Humans! Do you see me going to the Owl Shack and bugging you while you... fry up owls?" she asked
"Um, no. But I'm sure we don't do that" Max replied
"Whatever. I don't really know what you do there, but every time you two come near me, I get in trouble. Just leave me alone." Amity ordered
"Our apologies. We'll get out of your hair now" Max added as he and Luz left the room
"So much for befriending rivals." Luz said as she bumps her fist on her forehead
"It's okay, Luz. Just give Amity some space for now." Max assured
"You gonna let her get to you like that?" a male voice
The two humans look over to see Emira and a teenage boy wearing the same uniform that she was wearing. He also has green hair.
"Emira?" Max said in surprise
"Max" Emira said with a smile as she runs up to him and Luz. "It's been a while"
"Heh. Yeah, haven't seen you since Hexside" Max replied with a blush
"Uh, Emira. Who's this?" The teenage boy said as he walks up
"Edric. This is the transfer student I met when I was on my way to class." Emira said "Oh by the way, Max. This is Edric. My twin brother"
"What's up, Max? It's nice to meet ya" Edric greeted
"Back at ya, Edric. I should also tell you that I'm not really a transfer student. I'm sorry if I tricked you" Max said with some guilt in his voice
"That's okay. I already knew that you weren't really a student. I just went along with it" Emira assured much to Max's relief
"Uh, excuse me. But who are you guys?" Luz asked
"Well-wishers on a mission." Edric answered
"A noble quest" Emira added
"And Max. You met one of them?" Luz asked Max
"Uh huh. I sorta bumped into Emira when I was exploring Hexside" Max admitted
"Anyway. Watch this" Edric said as he called to Amity. "Hey Mittens"
Amity grunted and turned bright red as she heard this. Max was surprised by this
"Mom says stop forgetting your lunch. And stop being a jerk to your friends." Edric said as he held up a rabbit lunch bag
"They are not my friends" Amity said as she walks up and takes the bag
Luz looks down when she heard this. Emira comes in and puts a hand on both her and Max's shoulder
"Yeah, makes sense. They seems too cool for you." she said
"We are?" Luz asked
"You can leave now. All of you." Amity said as she walks back to the kid's corner
Emira chuckled while Edric winks at Luz
"Hold on a minute. You two are Amity's siblings?" Max asked in surprise
"Uh huh. Surprised?" Emira asked
"I guess so" Max responded with a blush as Emira leaned closer to him
Max, Luz, Emira, and Edric were walking through the library
"So, you're the humans we've heard so much about. Although, my sister already met one of you" Edric said
"As I already introduced myself to Max, I'm Emira and this is Edric. We're Amity's older siblings" Emira said as she re-introduced herself to the two humans
"That makes sense" Max replied.
This earns him a giggle from Emira
"By the way, we heard about your duel with Amity at the Covention, Max." Edric said
"And when you humiliated her with those elemental powers of yours" Emira added "Especially when you and Luz embarrassed Amity in school. I guess it's no wonder why she hates both of you"
"That wasn't our intention" Max said
"Yeah. I thought we were as cool as cucumbers. But we're as sour as pickles." Luz added
"Don't waste your time with Mittens. Me and Ed, we're way more fun. Follow us." Emira said as she grabs Max's wrist and leads him off while Edric does the same with Luz.
Max couldn't help but blush at Emira holding his wrist
First, Edric went to a sign that has Fiction and Non-Fiction pointing in opposite directions. He then wipes the Non part away and sneaks off when another librarian leading some patrons arrive.
"And here we go towards our nonfiction section." he said until he notices the sign. " Fiction, fiction? Is our world but fiction? Then what in my life is real anymore?"
The librarian then collapse to his knees and begins to sob. Max sees this and couldn't help but bad for him.
Then, Emira then begins to use her magic to put the books that the first librarian was shelving back on the re-shelf cart and then have them switch places with the second librarian.
"Huh? No! Not again!" the second librarian said as he sobbed. As he did that, the first librarian fell off the ladder
They were now at the Demon Decimal System where Edric blew dust from an old book at the the decimal system. The faces all sneezed while spitting out notecards. They all laugh as Luz dance and the twins hi-five.
"Hey!"
Amity's voice caught their attention. They turn to see Amity, Max, and the first librarian were glaring at them with their arms crossed.
"Wait. Where's Gary?" the librarian asked
"Coming" Gary said as he runs in. "Nooo!"
The librarian then pushes the Blight twins and Luz out of the library
"You've made reading far too fun. Now, stay out." the librarian said. Max then walks out. The librarian smiles at him and says, "And thank you for cleaning up their messes, young man"
"No problem, sir" Max replied
"Would you consider working for us?" the librarian asked
"Hmmm. I'll have to think about that" Max said
The librarian nods his head and then goes back in the library. After that, the four begin to laugh
"Amity's even madder at me now. I didn't think that was possible." Luz said as she turns to Max. "But I didn't expect you to help her out by cleaning up, Max"
"Well, I always did like to clean up and put things back where they were" Max replied
"No, when Mittens gets mad, she looks like this." Edric said as he inhales and grunts as he turn red before exhaling. "Whoa, I almost passed out."
"You two are pretty fun. Especially you, Max" Emira said as she winks at Max
"Heh heh. Really?" Max asked
"Mmmhmmm. So, hey, we're coming back tonight. There's a certain book we forgot to... check out." Emira said
"And bonus, rumor has it the Wailing Star's supposed to unlock some rare magical event. You in, friends?" Edric asked
"Sure" Luz answered
"I am curious about this rare magical event you were talking about. Count me in" Max added
"Great. Meet back here at midnight. See ya" Edric said
"Later" Emira said
"Bye!" Luz said as she and Max wave goodbye as the twins left
"Wow. Still can't believe that they are both Amity's siblings" Max said
"This is great. First, I befriend the siblings then I befriend the Amity" Luz squealed as she runs off
Max can only chuckle as he begins to follow after his friend. Unbeknownst to him, Amity was standing around a corner and had overheard their conversation. She then hold her breath as her face becomes red and then exhales.
"Phew! Almost passed out." she said
Back at the Owl House, the bat baby was still crying as Eda, Shartok, and King were trying to block out the sound.
"It's going to be okay, little one! Please stop crying" Shartok begged
"It's been hours. How can it keep screaming?" King asked
"A lot of bat babies do this when they are not cared properly" Shartok informed
"I hate it too, guys." Eda said as she reattaches her hands that she was using to plug her ears. "But think about the money."
The bat baby's crying was so loud that it broke some glass objects and a glass covering of Eda's wanted poster
"No amount of snails is worth this torture. Make it stop!" King begged as he fell of the sofa arm
"Yeah. My eardrums can't take this anymore." Shartok added
"I can't believe I'm about to do this." sighed Eda as she picks up the bat baby. This caused the bat baby to stop crying. Eda then begins to rock the baby back and forth. "Rock, rock. Maternal gesture."
"Hey, it's working. Keep going, Eda" Shartok said
Max and Luz then came inside the house.
"Hey guys. How's the library?" Shartok asked
"Well, Shartok. We just had the best day. Cool teens like me. Call me a library book 'cause they were checking me out." Luz replied as she and Max walks up to the sofa.
"Wow, Eda. You look so motherly caring for the bat baby" Max said
"Say that again, and I'll steal your tongue" Eda threatened
"Aw. How can you say that around this cute little baby?" Luz cooed as she poked the sleeping bat baby. But as she did that, the bat baby vomits out another baby, who also barfs up another much to Max and Luz's surprise
"Oh my gosh!" Max yelled
"I almost forgot, bat babies also have the ability to reproduce another one of themselves at will." Shartok said
"Good to know" Max replied
The three bat babies then flew up into the air. One of them breathes fire at them. Everyone scream and got out of the way as the fire hits the couch. Max and Luz then made their way to the door.
"As much as we would like to help babysit, we have somewhere else we need to be" Max said
"Yeah. Parenting sure looks rewarding. E-Enjoy your life lessons. Bye." Luz said as she got her messenger bag. Then she and Max went out and closed the door, leaving Eda, King, and Shartok with the baby bats.
"Well, here we go again" Shartok said
"Uh, for, for the money?" King asked Eda
"For the money" Eda replied
They yelped as they dodge a slime shot at them. Shartok even dodged as well
"Hey! Stop that. You three better settle down right now!" he yelled as he flew after them
That night, Luz and Max were by the library entrance waiting for the Blight twins. Luz was pacing around while Max was leaning against a pillar.
"Gotta be cool. Cool? No. Cool" Luz said as she did several poses
"You don't have to do that to be cool, Luz" Max said as he got off the pillar
"Why not? Keep going" Emira said which caught them off guard.
The two humans look to see the Blight twins on the opposite side of the entrance. They were in their casual clothes. Edric was wearing a dark gray underclothes, a burgundy tunic with a belt around the waist, and gray boots with burgundy cuffs while Emira was wearing a long-sleeved dark gray shirt under a burgundy tunic with a green stone in the center of her chest and a belt around the waist, gray shorts with burgundy cuffs, and the same shoes that she wore for her uniform.
"This is fun to watch" Emira said
"How long were you two standing there?" Max asked
"Long enough" Emira answered
"So, You ready to bring this whole, uh, whatever you're doing, inside?" Edric asked
Both Luz and Max nod their heads. They then approach the door. There was a sign on the door that says: No trespassing
"It says no trespassing but I'm allergic to the rules." Edric says as he takes out a paper and gives it to Emira
"And dairy" Emira added
"Wow, okay. Just expose me." Edric said
The paper then glows and Emira places it over the lock of the door. The paper then crumbles up
"Wow" Luz said
The lock then grow big enough for them to enter
"Come on" Edric says
They all walked into the lock. Once they were inside, the lock shrinks back down.
Inside the library, the two humans and the Blight twins found themselves in the lobby
"Standing in a dimly lit lobby. You guys know how to party." Luz said
"There. The Wailing Star!" Edric said as he pointed up to a stain glass window. The wailing star flew past while sobbing
"Whoa." Luz said
"Interesting" Max added
The group looked around for a few seconds
"Hmm. Nothing happened." Edric said
"I wouldn't be too sure of that. Look over there" Max said as he points to a book that was glowing
Luz walks over to the book and takes it off the shelf. The title says: Extinct Birds of the Boiling Isles.
"The books are all glowy." she said. Luz then opens the book and the birds from the book suddenly came out and begins to fly around in the library
"Wow" Emira said
"Look at that" Max added
"Wow. The Wailing Star magicked the books to life." Edric said
Luz then closes the book which makes all the birds disappear
"It seems the magic will only work if the books are open" Max replied
The four of them then grin at each other at the fun they were going to have
First, Edric and Emira went to the magazine. Edric takes one magazine out titled: Regal Culture and opens it. The twins were then dressed in fancy attires with a peacock coming out of it. Max then takes out a book titled: Demons of the Boiling Isles. When he opens it, a white monstrous demon comes out and roars at him. Panicking, Max quickly closes the book and puts it back on the shelf. Luz then opens a book titled: Witch Wares Weekly and opens it. She was then dressed in a different outfit and a giant sword. But due to the size of the sword, Luz lost her balance and fell over. The four are now at the Graphic Novels section where Luz has opened one of the books. But nothing seems to happened
"Nothing happened." Luz said. But as she said that, her words appeared in a dialogue bubble. Max looks up and noticed it
"Um, Luz" Max said as he points up. His own words also appeared in a dialogue bubble too. The Blight twins backed up as they saw this.
"Wow" they said. Their words also comes out in a dialogue bubble. Luz then closes the book which causes the dialogue bubbles to pop causing a Thump sound bubble to appear.
Then, Luz was holding a book called Snowballs, a History. She turns a corner to see Edric walking by with a copy of the same book.
"Ha!" she yelled as she opened the book and pelts Edric with snowballs. But he retaliates by opening his book and shoots snowballs from his book at Luz, making her run away. Just as she thought she was safe, Luz comes face to face with Emira who opens her own copy and of Snowballs, a History and pelts Luz with the snowballs from the book. Just as Emira was giggling at this, someone snuck up from behind and taps her in the back. Emira looks behind her to see Max with a smile
"Hello" he said as he takes out his own version of the Snowballs book and opens it to pelt Emira with the snowballs. Emira was shocked, but then she begins to laugh with Max joining in.
"Oh, I'm gonna get you for that" Emira said playfully as she opens her snowball book and begins to shoot it at Max. Luckily, Max was able to get out of the way and run to another part of the library.
As he was panting, Max then notices another glowing book on a shelf.
"What's this?" he asked
He takes out a book that is titled: Elemental Spells and Techniques for Beginners
"Elemental Spells and Techniques for Beginners? This sounds promising" Max said
He then opens it and it shows a black figure performing a spell of the fire element. Max watches as the figure trace a spell and begins to form a fire slash with his hands. And then a fire streaming kick. There was even a technique about shooting fire from the feet like a rocket. Turning the page, Max sees the figure doing some magic with electric abilities. Some involves hovering in the air, electrifying the water, and combining two electric balls to form one big one. There was also one for electrifying the ground when in a tight spot against enemies.
"Wow. I never knew there could be so many ways to use this kind of magic. Maybe I can incorporate this with my powers" Max said
"Max?"
Max turn to see Edric and Emira walking up to him. He closes the book and puts it back on the shelf
"Oh hey guys" he said
"We're so glad we found you. We need to find Luz" Emira said as she grabs Max by the hand which makes him blush. "Come on"
"Yeah. We need to show her something interesting" Edric said
And they led Max away through the library
'I'm gonna have to borrow that book when I have the chance' thought Max
Meanwhile back in the Owl House, the three baby bats were continuing to cause havoc. Shartok, Eda, and King were taking cover under the overturned couch.
"Phew. I'm so tired. I can barely keep up with them" Shartok said
"What silences children? What if we invent a TV network for ages six to 11?" King asked
"That's insane. Aah, there's only one way out of this." Eda said as she reaches into her hair and takes out a knife
King gasped
"Oh no! No no no no!" yelled Shartok
"Relax. I am just gonna cut this apple and then read them a story" Eda said as she cuts an apple in half and takes out a copy of the Otabin book.
"That could work" Shartok says as he runs out "Hey kids. It's story time!"
That got the three bat kid's attention. They immediately flew down with King joining with the plate of the cut apple
"All right, brats. Let's do this. Ugh. Being parental is making me sick." Eda said with disgust. She then begins to read the story. "'Otabin spend his days alone amongst the many books he'd sewn. With needle and thread...'"
Back in the library, Luz was reading the same book from the kid's corner where Otabin has come to life. She had just went in there and began to read the Otabin book
"'...the pages he'd mend. But all the while he longed for a friend.'" Luz read
"Friend?" Otabin said as he was holding his needle and thread
"Hey Luz. Check this out" Edric called
Luz turns to see Edric, Emira, and Max coming into the kid's corner. Emira was holding a book titled: Quacks Eats Snacks"
"Look at what we discovered" Emira said before opening the book. A little duck came out
"Wow" Max said
"Aw. Cute little quackster." Luz said
Edric then takes the book and drew legs on the bottom of the duck. This resulted in the duck having large beefy legs much to it's horror
"Oh my gosh!" Max yelled in surprise
"Now he's extra cute" Emira said as she closes the book
The twins begins to share a laugh as the duck disappears
"Your turn Luz" Edric said
"I don't know" Luz said nervously
"Come on. Don't stop the fun" Edric said as he took out his pencil
Luz hesitantly took the pencil and opens the Otabin book. She looked at the picture of Otabin
"I can't do it" she said with a sigh
"Let me help" Edric said as he moves Luz's hand and drew angry eyebrows and claws on the picture.
Suddenly, something is about to emerge from the book, but Luz quickly closed it.
"I don't want to see it" Luz said
"Me neither" Max added
"Whatever. We didn't come here just to doodle. Come on." Emira said as she grabs Max's hand and Edric grabs Luz's hand and pulls them away. As they were doing that, Luz drops the Otabin book making it fall face down. Just then, something begins to emerge from it.
The twins had led Max and Luz further into the library and right at the Romance section
"Oh, wow. Boiling Isles romance. That's totally lame. I mean, unless you guys are into it?" Luz asked
"I think I'm into this one." Edric replied as he pulls a book titled: The Lone Witch & Secret Room. Then a click sound was heard and the book case slides away to reveal a secret room.
"Whoa!" Max said in surprise
"Wow. That's a good book" Luz added
The two humans begin to walk inside the room with amazement in their eyes
"This hideout is so cool." Max said before noticing some familiar books on the shelf. "Dungeons & Dragons? Get out of town!"
"Your clubhouse is like my ultimate secret hideaway." Luz added
"We don't hang out in a library. 'Uh, teacher, I'm in love with a dictionary.'" Edic replied as he begins to mock Amity
"'I'm studying the dork arts.' This is Amity's secret hideaway." Emira explained
"This is Amity's hideout? Then why are we here?" Max asked in shock while Luz looked worried
"Mittens has gotten too... full of herself. She keeps tattling on us when we cut class." Edric explained
"She needs to learn not to mess with people like that. So, we're going to find her diary." Emira added
"And then post the pages all around school for everyone to see." Edric finished
"What?! But that's an invasion of privacy!" Max yelled
"Yeah. Isn't that taking it a bit too far?" Luz asked
"No. See, we're her family. It's tough love. She needs to learn to lighten up." Emira replied as she and Edric begins to look around the hideaway.
"We can't let them get it" Max whispered to Luz
"Hmm. Well, I—I don't see any diaries in here." Luz said. " Nope, nothin'. Let's just leave. Wait, are those... Good Witch Azura books one through four! You get these on the Boiling Isles? So majestic.
Luz squealed as she notices some Good Witch Azura books. She races over to the stack with Max following behind. Luz then takes one of the books out. It has a drawing on the cover.
"That one looks hand-drawn" Max said
Luz opens the book and Amity comes out from it
"I saw those humans again." the diary said
"The diary" Luz said
"I may have overreacted. I don't wanna come off as cruel. I just can't show weakness. But I have to admit, that human boy was willing to help clean up the mess in the library. Maybe I should give him a chance" the diary continued
"Quick, close it" Max whispered. Luz did just that
"Hey you two. What've you got there?" Edric asked
"Uh nothing" Max replied
"Yeah. Just a Good Witch Azura 5 where she goes through her Goth phase." Luz said as she hid the diary behind her back. "Huh? No, wait."
But Emira used her magic to take the book from Luz's hands. She then gives it to Edric and they both looked into it
"It's not fair. I'm the only one who knows Ed and Em aren't perfect. Why do they keep getting away with things?" Amity's diary asks
"This is it" the twins said
"Luz, Max, were you hiding this from us?" Emira asked
"You see how she treats people. How she treats you." Edric reminded
"That may be so. But that's no excuse to destroy her life!" Max spat
"He's right. I know Amity can be kind of cold, but no one deserves this. These are private thoughts. Let's put it back." Luz said as she grabs the diary and attempts to pull it away, but Edric pulled back.
They then begin to tug back and forth on the diary. Max was holding Luz by the waist while Emira was doing the same with Edric.
"She needs this" argued Edric
"She's your sister! You can't do this to her!" Max yelled
"It's for her own good." Emira argued
They continued to pull until some pages begin to fall out
"Oh no!" Max yelled as he and Luz saw this
"'I wish I had somewhere to go.' 'Why won't those humans leave me alone?' 'Called my teacher mom again.' 'Sorry I haven't written for a while. Wait, why am I apologizing?'" the pages of the diary said
Max and Luz begins to pick up the pages, until Amity comes in
"Really?!" she shouted with her face turning red
"Uh oh. Busted" Max said in fright
"It's not what it looks like." Luz said
The Blight twins begins to giggle
"You two are the worst!" Amity said to her older siblings and then looks at Luz and Max while taking the pages from them. "But you two, I've been trying to figure out what your deals are. Are you posers? Nerds? I know. You two are bullies"
This made Max frown. He had never once been called a bully in his life.
Amity then runs out of the room
"Amity, wait!" Max called as he and Luz ran out. The twins then step out
"Mittens killed the fun." Emira said
"Again" Edric added "Oh, well. We're heading out to go goblin‐tipping. Wanna come?"
"You're just gonna leave?" Luz asked
"Yeah, with you two" Emira said as she grabs Max's arm
Max just glared at her and yanks his arm back much to Emira's surprise
"Look, you guys are cool." Luz said
"Mm-hmm." The twins said with a nod
"But I need to go talk to Mittens. I mean, Amity." Luz continued
"All right. See you around, cutie" Emira said with a wink
Luz then runs off. The twins then notice Max still standing there with his glare hardening
"Max?" Emira asked
"You know what? I can't believe you guys! I thought you two were cool. But after what you try to do to Amity, I am absolutely disgusted!" Max yelled.
This caught the twins by surprised. They had never seen Max this upset
"I may not have any siblings, but I do know that they don't do what you do! Don't you guys realize that your actions have consequences?! Obviously not, because you don't seem to care what happens to your own younger sister! As the older siblings, you're suppose to look out for your younger siblings, care for them! Not publicly humiliate them in front of the whole world! And you think this is all fun and games to you! Maybe Amity was right. You guys are the worst!" Max continued to yell as he begins to pant in anger
"Max" Emira said as she attempts to reach out to him, but he steps back
"And to think I was starting to like you. Have fun you two"
Max then runs off to look for Luz and Amity, leaving the twins alone. As Emira watches Max leave, tears begin to form in her eyes as Max's words rang clear in her mind. She begins to feel ashamed for their actions, but most of all, upsetting Max. Edric notices her sister upset
"Em. Are you okay?" he asked
"I'm not" Emira replied "Max was right. We haven't been very good siblings to Amity."
"We were only having fun" Edric said
"True, but we've also upset Max." Emira replied as she wiped her eyes. "Maybe we should make amends"
"What about goblin-tipping?" Edric asked
"If it's that important to you, then you can go by yourself if you want. But I'm going to set things right" Emira said
Emira then runs off to look for Max while Edric just stood there thinking about what to do.
Max was running through the library until he heard Amity's scream.
"Amity" he said as he rushes to where the scream was coming from.
In the Kid's Corner, Amity was placed at a right page on a book as a corrupt version of Otabin begins to sew her arm to it
"Why are you doing this? I've been reading you since I was a kid. I know you're not like this. Someone changed you" Amity said
"But friends are what I've always sought. And now a friend my claws have caught." Otabin responded
Then a purple cloud comes in and a figure in white robes and a hat lands in front of them. The smoke blinds Otabin for a bit
"Azura!?" Amity gasped
"Close" Luz said as she reveals herself having used Amitiy's diary to make give herself some robes. "Is a drawn okay? I kind of interpreted the descriptions."
"Luz!" Amity yelled
"Ah right!" Luz said
Max had just arrived at the Kid's Corner entrance to witnessed Amity, Luz, and Otabin. He gasped at the sight of Otabin, but he quickly covers his mouth and quickly hid outside so he wouldn't get caught.
"Is that Otabin? How did he get this way?" Max asked until he realized something. "Edric"
He then turns to witness Otabin grabbing Amity's diary from Luz and then closing it, making Luz change back in her normal outfit.
"Not an Azura fan are you?" Luz asked nervously
Otabin grabs Luz and begins to sew her on the opposite page next to Amity
"Making friends, taking friends, never be without my friends." Otabin rhymed as he sewed Luz's arm to the page
"You fiend. You can't rhyme friends with friends." Luz said
"Great work, Luzura" Amity said unamused
"Hey! I was trying to save you." Luz said defensively
"Well, it doesn't matter. We're gonna be stuck together forever." Amity said
"I gotta help them" Max said "But I can't risk getting caught"
Luz notices her sewn arm and the page going with it. She gets an idea
"No, we aren't. Follow my lead." Luz said as she begins to slam her feet on the book. "One"
"What are you doing?" Amity asked
"Two" Luz said as she slams her feet again. "Three"
The book then falls over and hits Otabin. Amity and Luz then makes a run for it with Otabin in hot pursuit. Seeing this, Max leaps out of the way as they ran out of the Kid's Corner.
"Hang on guys. I'm coming" Max said.
Not wanting to burn the books, Max concentrates and changes into his Electric form and sped after them.
Amity and Luz continue to flee from Otabin and hid behind a small shelf
"Okay, now what?" Amity asked
"I don't know. I didn't even think that would work. I was all like 'roaaar.'" Luz said
This earned her a giggle from Amity which also makes Luz smile. But the moment was ruined when Otabin pierces the book with his needle and begins to reel them in with his thread like he was fishing. The book was launched onto the ground as Otabin does that. Just as Otabin was reeling them in, an electric ball hits him in the back causing him pain.
"Hey! Threads to yourself!" Max called out
Everyone turns to see Max coming in and getting into a battle stance
"Max!" Luz and Amity said
Otabin growled and begins to swipe at him with his claws, but Max dodges them and begins to shoot electric balls at him which causes him pain. Otabin charges at him and begins to swipe at him again, but Max dodges them all. Max then delivers a roundhouse kick to Otabin which knocks him back.
'Let's see if I learn anything from that book' he thought
As Otabin charges at him, Max quickly touches the ground to electrify it which zaps Otabin. Luz and Amity were surprised by this
"Whoa" Luz said
Otabin then passes out. Max then powers down and runs over to the book where Luz and Amity were kept.
"Are you girls okay?" Max asked
"Never better. I guess" Luz replied
"Can you help us out please?" Amity asked
"Sure" Max replied "You first, Amity"
He then grabs Amity's free hand and put his foot on the book. Max then pulls as hard as he can. He does it three more times until the thread breaks, freeing Amity. She looks at her right arm and sees it back to normal
"Phew. Thanks" Amity said
"Don't mention it. Now for you, Luz" Max said
But just as he was about to help Luz, something appeared behind him. Luz notice this with widen eyes
"Max, behind you!" she yelled
Max looks to see Otabin who grabs him and held him in the air.
"Friends!" he growled
But just then, a rope lassoes around Max and pulls him out of Otabin's grasp. Max was then caught by none other than Emira.
"Emira?" Max said in surprised
"Hey, Max" Emira greeted as she puts him down
"What are you doing here? I thought you were out goblin-tipping?" Max asked
"I thought about what you said and you were right about everything. But now I'm here to make things right with you and my sister" Emira answered as she looks at Amity who was surprised to see her here. Max smiled as he heard that
Otabin then stomps up to them with a growl
"Whoa! Is that...?" Emira asked in surprise
"Yeah. That's Otabin. This is the result of Edric scribbling over his picture" Max answered
As Otabin got closer, Max and Emira got into battle stances. Before any of them can make a move, series of snowballs pelted Otabin and knocking him down. Everyone turns to see Edric who had just closed the Snowballs, a History book
"Edric. You're here too?" Max asked as he, Emira, and Amity walk up to him
"Yep. If Emira can make up for our actions, then so can I" Edric replied
"We're glad that you came, Ed" Amity said
"Um. I hate to cut this conversation short. But can you guys get me out here?" Luz asked as she was still strapped on the book
"Hold on, Luz" Amity said
Amity grabs Luz while Emira, and Edric held onto the book. As Amity pulls Luz, Max went over and pull out the thread returning Luz's hand to normal.
"Oh. Third dimension how I've missed you." Luz said as she got off the book
But then, Otabin immediately gets up with a growl. He charges at them and grabs Max
"Max!" everyone shouted
Otabin then begins to tie Max up with his thread
"We must stay friends until the end. There is no tear I cannot mend." Otabin rhymed
Max noticed the book on Otabin's chest and the scribble that Edric made on the picture
"Guys! We got to erased the drawing that Edric did! It's the only way to change Otabin back!" he called
"Any of you guys have any erasers?" Luz asked
"Nope" Edric replied
"I don't have one on me" Emira said
"Wait. I got an idea" Amity said as she takes out a pencil and begins to write on the book. "'Max has to write a wrong'"
Then, a giant eraser magically appears. Emira and Edric went over and picks it up
"Mind if we do this?" Emira asked
Amity was surprised but then nods her head
"Max, catch!" Edric called as he and Edric tossed the eraser at Max
Max caught the eraser and erase the eyebrows and claws from the illustration. This changes Otabin back to normal. Max lands on the ground and catches Otabin when he was falling. He then sets Otabin on the ground. The others walked up and Amity picks Otabin up.
"I'm so sorry. I don't know what came over me." Otabin apologized
"Hey, it's okay. We're still friends." Amity assured
Luz then goes over and picks up Otabin's book. She looks at Amity, who nods her head. Luz then closes the book and Otabin disappears.
"Hey Edric, Emira" Amity said to her older twin siblings
"Yes?" they asked
"Thank you" Amity said
This made the twins smile. Even Max smiled as he knew that the Blight twins were slowly patching things up with Amity
After cleaning up the library, everyone begins to leave. It was morning
"What an adventure. Thanks for helping clean up." Luz said
"Yeah" Edric said as he spoke to Amity. "Hey, Amity"
"Yes?" Amity asks
"We just want to say that we're sorry about what happened. We just got so tired of you always tattling on us" Edric said
"We had no idea that we were taking our joke a little too far. Is there any way we can make it up to you?" Emira asked
"Well, you guys could show up in class every day" Amity said. She then looks at Luz and Max. "This never happened"
Max only blinked at this
"Wait. It doesn't make up for reading your diary but would you wanna borrow this?" Luz asked as she takes out an Azura book from her bag. " I noticed you only had up to four."
Amity takes it
"Thank you" she said "Maybe you two aren't bullies after all. And I haven't exactly been the friendliest witch either. I'll think on that."
Amity then walks away with Edric following after her. Emira then looks at Max
"Max. I want to apologize for what me and Edric put you and Luz through. You were right about our actions having consequences. Can you forgive me?" she asked
"Hey. I already forgave you after you helped us with Otabin, Emira. Plus you and Edric made amends with Amity." Max assured "I think that should be enough"
"Yeah. Everything worked out in the end" Luz added
"Just please don't do something like this again, okay?" Max asked
"Deal" Emira said as she puts her hands on Max's shoulders. She then pressed her lips on his left cheek which catches him off guard. Emira then backs away
"I'll see you around, Max" Emira said with a wink. She then runs off to catch up to her siblings.
Max blushes when he watched Emira leave. He then puts his hand on the spot where she kissed him.
"Oooooh!" Luz said teasingly
"Shut up!" Max yelled embarrassed
Max and Luz then returns to the Owl House. They open the door and went inside
"Hey guys. We're back" Max said
They see Eda, Shartok, and King sleeping with the three bat babies on the couch. The smiled at this until the someone slams the door open
"Ding-dong!" shouted Hooty
"Hooty" Luz said
Then, a giant woman's head with bat wings came inside.
"Whoa. You must be Mama." Luz said
"I can definitely see the family resemblance" Max added
"Yi Yi. Mama is I. And I is the Bat Queen." The Bat Queen said before whistling
The three bat babies heard her whistling and flew into the Bat Queen's hair
"Wow" Max said
"Aah! Snuggle dumplings." Bat Queen said before regurgitating a chest with some snails in it. She even barfs out some kind of whistle
"For troubles. Eda is owed one." Bat Queen replied. "And tell Shartok I said hi"
She then squeezes out of the house. The two humans watched as she flew away. Luz then closes the door. Shartok was the first one to wake up
"Oh hey guys" he said with a yawn "What happened? And where are the babies?"
"They've all gone home" Max replied
"Oh" Shartok said "And just when I was getting used to them being around"
"Ah. Sweet babies." Eda said in her sleep. She then wakes up and realizes that they were gone. King woke up too. "Babies? Where are the babies?"
"You just missed it, Eda. The Bat Queen came by and took them home" Max said while Luz mimed flying away
"Oh. And I just taught Junior how to pick locks too." Eda said glumly
"Your night looks very successful." Luz said
"Plus she even gave you this chest full of snails. You did say you would do it for the money" Max added
"And look at this cool whistle that scary woman gave you. I'd wash it before you use it" Luz said as she holds up the whistle that has spit on it
"Yeah. We did it all for the money." Eda said depressed
"I missed my babies!" King wailed as he hugs Eda
"Me too. But I'm sure they're okay" Shartok said
"I'm surprised you're taking the loss well, Shartok" Max said
"Hey. The babies are with their real mother. Besides, I can always just visit them" Shartok replied as he flew onto Max's shoulder
" I actually got you something from the library." Luz said as she takes a book out of her bag titled: Coping with Empty Nest Syndrome. She then gives it to Eda
"Thanks, kid. So, how was your night?" the Owl lady asked
"Good. Then bad. Then maybe good?" Luz answered
"Huh?" puzzled Shartok
"Let's just say that it's a very long story. Emphasis on long" Max replied
"Hey, you wanna hear about my night?" Hooty asked
"Ugh! No!" Luz said
"No!" Eda said
"No way!" Max said
"That's not a thing anyone ever wants." King said
"Shut your door already" Shartok yelled
