Cliff Diving
I huffed as I shoved through the last of the low hanging branches that paralleled the cliffside, before drawing to a stop when I saw the four shirtless men in cut offs standing there. "Oh, sorry."
"What are you doing up here Bella?" Sam Uley asked.
I looked at the other three, Embry gave me a half smile and waved, and the other two whose names I don't know, were ignoring me. "I'm taking back control of my life. I've learned to drive a motorcycle. I've punched a jack ass in the face." I glanced out to the water. "Now I want to try cliff diving. I hear it's a rush."
Embry grinned. "so you came by yourself? To the tall cliff?"
I shrugged even as I smiled back at him. "I'm pulling an Elphaba."
"Elphaba?" Sam questioned.
"The wicked witch of the west. In the musical Wicked there's a song called defying gravity. Part of the lyric is 'It's time to trust my instincts, close my eyes, and leap'."
"Jeez Bells," Embry started. "Do you ever watch normal movies? Witches? Explosions. Car chases. What's next? Vampires?"
I growled. "Fuck Vampires. Well actually, scratch that." I chuckled, holding up a hand. "Don't fuck vampires. That's necrophilia." I tilted my head, thinking about it for a second. "Now werewolves. That's where it's at." Embry just laughed with me while the other three seemed to choke on their saliva. "So, who wants to jump off a cliff with me?"
Embry wrapped his arms around my waist, and started walking backwards. "You shouldn't jump off this one by yourself. The lower one you can do, this one can hurt you."
I raised an eyebrow. "I missed the part where you got the idea you can tell me what to do."
Sam's hand was suddenly on my arm, stopping Embry's backward motion. "He's not telling you that to try and control you. People have died. We're just concerned for your safety."
I felt anger rising in me as I shook his hand off of my arm, and removed Embry's arms from around my waist. I took a moment to glance at the other two. "The last time I trusted a supernatural being to keep me safe, he and his entire family abandoned me." I replied, looking back at Sam.
He looked shocked by my response. "What?"
"I know the legends here." I said simply as a response, before following it up with my punchline. "Also, if you're trying to keep it a secret, quick tip; when rescuing damsels in distress, don't step behind a tree as a wolf and then step out from behind the same tree as a man moments later."
His mouth fell open into an 'o' of shock. "Wha-."
"You knowingly walked up to a group of werewolves?" Embry questioned.
I snorted. "When I found out about the Cullens I knowingly confronted them about being vampires." I snorted again. "Looking back I wish I had just taken a flamethrower and torched the place with them in it. Fucking assholes."
"You know how to kill them?" One voice asked, and I turned to him, only to freeze when our eyes met. The power of speech eluded me, and all I could do was nod. "How?"
I felt incapable of lying to this man whose name I didn't know. I lifted my right arm, letting the sleeve fall down and uncover the double crescent scar I had. "Last year I was hunted and nearly killed by a nomad. When they were trying to get me away from him I asked, and they told me. Tear them apart and light them on fire."
There were four growls as they all looked at the bite on my wrist, but I remained looking at the same guy. "You were bitten? How are you not one of them?" A voice down a tunnel asked. But my eyes were still stuck staring into the depths of the obsidian pools before me.
"Edward sucked the venom out." I said simply. "What is your name?"
He seemed confused by my question, causing Sam, Embry, and the other guy to chuckle. A russet arm was thrown around his shoulders. "His name is Jared. I'm Paul."
Jared nodded his head. "Jared, that's right."
I raised an eyebrow and let out a chuckle. "So, who wants to jump off of a cliff with me?"
