Taiga and Shiori walked through the AEON shopping center killing time after school. Taiga enjoyed the time they spent together. Only in his mind, this was a date. He was fully aware in reality it wasn't but he still dreamed. Those kinds of thoughts occupied his mind most of the day.
"What do you want to do after this?" Taiga asked.
Shiori shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe just go home and take a nap. Did you want to do something else?"
"Nothing really but if you want to relax we could go hang out at the park."
"What would we do there?"
"Just lie around and relax."
"Sounds kinda boring."
"You're the one that wanted to go home and sleep."
"Yeah, but I can get out of my uniform and sleep naked in my bed." Shiori realized she revealed too much and that Taiga would envision her naked in bed. However, before she could protest some loud voices grabbed their attention.
The two rushed over finding a few police officers and a crowd of people near the ATM section of the mall. One of the officers was holding down an elderly man with his knee. The old man struggled against the much younger officer's strength.
"What happened?" Shiori asked.
"Some woman with a baby yelled this man was trying to steal her wallet," one man said.
Shiori spotted a small woman trying to hide herself in the corner. She couldn't see her face. Shiori assumed she was trying to hide her face to avoid embarrassment. She instantly felt sorry for her.
"Is that the wallet?" Taiga asked pointing to a wallet on the ground. He picked it up before anyone answered his question. Inside was about 30,000 yen and an ID that belonged to the old man on the ground. He nudged Shiori and showed her the wallet.
"HEY! Get off him."
"Mind your own business before we arrest you."
"For what? Telling you not to kill an old man?"
"He needs to be subdued."
"For what?" Taiga asked. "He threw the wallet at the officers. "That's his wallet, you dumbasses."
The kneeling officer stood up glaring at Taiga. The officers walked toward Shiori and Taiga.
"Did you even think to look inside the wallet to see who it really belongs to? How about questioning the woman?"
Shiori pointed to where she last saw the woman but was gone. She and Taiga darted outside wondering where she had gone.
A man in his early 30s walked through the swirling wall of purple and red and approached the black sakura tree. He touched the tree and almost immediately transformed into an entirely different person. This person was shorter and in his 70s.
The white circles in the wall focused on the man. Despite the lack of any facial features, the man could tell the white circles were glaring at him with anger.
"Kuniaki Koiso. This will be your chance to get back in the good graces of the Teikurosuna. Your actions as prime minister were dishonorable."
"I was trying to save Japan," Koiso said. "Trying for peace was the only way. We were losing not only the war but our future by sending our young boys to fly their planes into American ships."
"You left your post before the war even ended. This isn't a discussion. Our goal is to make Japan whole again. To eliminate any anti-Japanese sentiment. Touch the tree again."
Koiso did as he was told and a different transformation took place. This one wasn't as fast nor was it painless. Sand swirled around him, enveloping and invading his body. Koiso dropped to his knees as his whole body changed. He grew larger as sections of his skin changed to black and orange fur. His head took that of the shape of a tiger. Once the sand vortex and the pain subsided, he stood up and faced the white circles as he gave his new body a look over.
"Now maybe you'll be useful. Go. Create a battalion of Jipna while you're out there."
Koiso dashed away at inhuman speeds.
Despite the ongoing protests against the Sentai teams, many tried to go about their daily lives. The protests were a daily occurrence outside the Japanese Diet, demanding government involvement. Some on their commute to work ran into the protesters and had to divert their regular courses to avoid them as they were often blocking the streets.
Antiran had sparked riots in various areas of the country but their focus appeared to be on Tokyo. They still caused riots regularly that destroyed various parts of the city. They often overwhelmed the police who had orders to not interfere with the rioters.
Suddenly, a tiger-looking monster appeared. People screamed and ran. Some approached the monster thinking they could talk it down and have a discussion. They were met with slashes across the face. Antiran attacked the monster but the rioters suffered similar fates.
Renka sat at her desk in class when she heard the sound of wind chimes. While the sound was soft and soothing, the suddenness of it startled her. She thought she was imagining it but it was real, only to her. No one else in the room was reacting to it. She felt a pulse just below her breast. She looked inside her jacket to see the red glow from her rekinchanger.
"Damn it," she muttered.
The PA system kicked on with its three-tone chime. It was the vice-principal.
"Students, a situation is occurring at the Diet building. We want you to remain calm but we are canceling the rest of the classes for today.
Students talked among themselves as they left the building. Some were saying a monster had appeared somewhere. While nothing had been confirmed for the civilians, Renka knew they were right.
Shiori and Taiga were at the front gate by the time Renka arrived.
"Do we wait for sensei?" Renka asked.
"You're the boss," Shiori said. "It's your call."
Renka looked back at the school. Teachers had different responsibilities and he probably wouldn't be able to get out as easily as the student. She sighed.
"Okay, let's go to the diet building and see what's going on then we'll take on whatever it is."
The trio was horrified to find just how bad the situation had become. Bodies lined the streets, some had been attacked by the monster while others looked to have been trampled by those fleeing. They turned the corner to see a tiger monster slashing an Antisen rioter across the face. Police had drawn their weapons and fired at the monster.
"You think the three of us can do this?" Taiga asked.
Renka didn't take her eyes off the monster. "We have to." She then looked around and found a small alleyway nearby. "This will have to do. Ready?"
The other two nodded pulling out their rekinchangers.
"REIKINCHANGE!" They said in unison. They held out their rekinchangers and pressed the button on the side of the handle. The center swirled open revealing the coin that glowed in their respective colors.
A disembodied voice came from the rekinchanger. "REKINGER!"
"RED RANGER!"
"YELLOW RANGER!"
"BLACK RANGER!"
The three rangers sprinted out of the alley. Before they could reach the monster, they were bombarded with random objects being thrown at them by the Antisen rioters who were still in the area.
"What the hell?" Taiga said. "We're coming in to save them and they try to stop us from saving them."
Koiso noticed the rangers and took the opportunity to attack. The rangers noticed too late that he was upon them but suddenly, Koiso was kicked across the face by Haruka in her ranger form. He skidded across the ground and crashed into one of the Diet building's security houses.
Antisen rioters intensified their attacks on the Rangers. Tenzo, in his ranger form, jumped down from a nearby building, slamming a foot into the ground in front of the rioters, and knocking them all over.
"Hey," he said pointing to the cops. "Do your job and get these people out of here. We'll handle Tony the Tiger over there. He immediately realized no one here would understand that reference. The cereal is popular in Japan but no one knew the name of the cereal's mascot.
The five rangers grouped together as a team for the first time. Their suits sparkled as if they were metallic. Their colors faded to black just below the belt that held their rekinchangers. Their boots had dull-colored trim to them. Gray lines ran down their sides and hooked just below the knee and curved inward below their breasts. The three girls wore black skirts that were accented with their respective colors. The collar wrapped around their neck and folded in front like a kimono that stopped at the gray line below their breasts.
Their helmets, also sparkling like their bodies, resembled their individual animals along with silver mouthpieces. Each ranger had black armbands on their biceps with their ancestral family crest outlined in metallic-colored lines. Renka didn't have a family crest but her symbol was the Imperial Japanese rising sun flag. Taiga's color was black but his colored accents gave off a purple hue.
"Rekin Red," Renka said.
"Rekin Blue," Tenzo said.
"Rekin Yellow," Shiori said.
"Rekin Black," Taiga said.
"Rekin Pink," Haruka said.
Rekishi Sentai Rekinger," they all said in unison while doing some personalized poses. Taiga and Shiori crossed their arms and leaned back against each other.
They took their fighting stances to fight Koiso. Just before they made their move, the bodies that lined the ground started to get up and change their appearance. They all started to look the same, changing into brown featureless creatures. Tenzo likened their appearance to that of the Japanese soldier which included the hat and back flap that was used to protect their necks from the sun.
"Go Jipna!" Koiso ordered as he threw out his hand toward the rangers.
"The bodies are changing into their foot soldiers," Haruka said.
"Do we hold back in case we can save them?" Shiori asked.
"No," Renka said. "Take them down."
The five rangers charged into the group of Jipna and began their assault.
