Till we aren't strangers anymore
Chapter 3
Three Rivers
Pairing: Andy and Rena Yablonski
Walking into the hospital, he hoped that Rena was still there; Andy had not seen her car parked in the parking lot as he drove in, so he wasn't sure if she was still there. He wasn't sure if she would be waiting for him in his office or elsewhere in the hospital if she was still around.
"Andy, Rena was looking for you" Pam had spotted Andy as he walked off the lift into the ICU ward he mostly frequented. "Do you know where she went?" he asked her, frustrated that they kept missing each other like this. "I sent her up to the rooftop; I thought you might still be up there," she responded as she stopped before him.
"How long ago?" he asked, unsure if she would still be up there. Pam checked her watch, "Probably about a half hour ago." He pulled out his phone and went into his favorites, and hit the call number on Rena's details; however, it went straight to her message bank, "It's Andy, give me a call when you can, it's not urgent; I just want to talk when you get a chance."
He hung the call-up and put his phone back in his pocket; just as he did, Miranda came over; she had just been to check on Kuol, who was doing well and sleeping soundly, "Kuol's vitals are all good, and he is asleep." Andy smiled softly and nodded his head. "Thanks, Miranda," he patted her back, stifling a yawn. "Why don't you go get some sleep, Andy? I'm on all night; Pam and I can watch Kuol".
Before he did anything else, he wanted to find his wife, "I will; I just want to find Rena first; I want to talk to her." He nodded his head, his hands moving onto his hips, "Pam said she was here earlier, have you seen her Miranda?", he asked softly, moving his hand over his mouth to cover another yawn.
"I did. She said something about heading home for the night, but she asked me to let you know that she was looking for you and would come by in the morning". He smiled softly and let his hand rest on her shoulder for a moment before he let go and began heading off the way he came, "Thanks, I'll see you both later."
"Get some rest, Andy," Pam reiterated, his hand giving a slight wave to let her know he heard, and then he was out the door he came. Instead of going to his room at the medstay, he decided he couldn't wait till morning to talk to her. He hadn't been home in a while now, but home was right where he wanted and needed to be.
Jumping back into the car, he couldn't help but smile when he heard a song on the radio, 'Till we ain't strangers anymore,' sung by Bon Jovi and LeAnn Rimes. It reminded him of what he needed to do now, and that was for him and Rena to find a way back till they weren't strangers anymore because that is what it felt like they were, strangers to each other instead of husband and wife.
While Andy was driving to their home, she decided to shower and head to bed, unbeknownst to Rena. It had been a long day, and dealing with the fact that she had to arrest Michael made things complicated and complex. She didn't have the same loyalty towards Michael that Andy had, and it was hard for her to remain unbiased when she knew who he was and what he had put her husband and herself through.
After being unsuccessful in finding Andy and having the weight of the world on her shoulder after the conversations she had with Michael, Philip, and Lisa, she had decided to head home for the night; on her way out, she saw Miranda and asked the doctor to tell Andy that Rena had been there and she would come to see him in the morning.
Out of all the conversations she had today, the one with Lisa seemed to stick the most; hearing how the ER doctor felt for her husband gave her a massive jolt of jealousy and made her understand what she would be losing if she left him for good. Rena had been in love with Andy since their school days, probably before she knew what love meant.
They met when they were ten and hadn't been apart for long except for the last few months when she decided they needed to separate. As she slowly undressed in the room's darkness with just the light on in the ensuite, she sighed softly, wishing Andy was there. She only hoped that it wasn't too late, but going by what Lisa said, it sounded like it wasn't; he finished things with Lisa to try to work things out with her.
Turning on the shower, she waited until it got warm enough and stepped in once she felt the water was hot enough. She just stood there for a few moments letting her body adjust to the water before she moved in closer and closed the shower door, and put her hair under the water to wet it, leaning her head back to let the water rush over her face as her mind thought of the one person she couldn't seem to get out of her mind lately, her husband, Andy.
She wished she had been able to find him; Rena wanted to talk to him, but after arriving at the hospital, she remembered the cell phone was off due to having a flat battery. Then, she began to cry, her tears hidden by the water already on her face, sobbing softly, her body trembling as she began to understand the gravity of what she had put them both through.
In all this, she hadn't thought how much she was hurting Andy or herself by trying to stop herself from getting hurt later on. She knew what a fantastic father Andy would be, but she didn't know if he would be willing to change his work life and schedule to meet the demand of having a family with her.
She had dreamt of what it would be like to be parents and how much she wanted it, she wasn't getting any younger and wanted to be able to have children while she was young enough to enjoy it, both her and Andy growing up as only children, they both yearned for a family. She couldn't ever imagine having kids with anyone else, and that is when she finally realized what was in front of her all this time.
Though when she thought about it, it wasn't fair on Andy at all for her to make that kind of decision without at least having a discussion with him and seeing if he would be willing to make a compromise for the family that they wanted to create. How he still wanted to be with her, she wouldn't ever know, but she just hoped that she could speak to him in the morning without any interruptions.

I will most certainly be continuing on my McRoll stories, I love them and will always do my best to keep them alive. This is an amazing show, that and Moonlight if you haven't checked it out, but yeah I love anything both AOL and Michelle Borth are in as well. Thank you, I am glad you are enjoying this story.
