Entry 051: Luca, I'm sorry, but I don't think this works with Aura-based Telepathy. Um…I'm Tsubaki Yayoi with Luca, my Starter Lucario, for this entry. He wanted to try, but the system sadly doesn't translate Aura-based Telepathy into text. Yes, I know you're disappointed and…wait. Athena, can you translate his PokeSpeak to the text in this. She better know. Oh, good. It works. Ahem...anyways, we had finally arrived in Ash's hometown of Pallet Town. Which he then startled all of us by easily knowing where everything is in this place when he's normally able to lose his way in a paper bag. Oh, Luca, that's just…it's not…okay, you're right, it was mildly disturbing. A-Anyway, we were given a tour of Pallet Town while all our Pokemon spent the day at Oak Ranch. How was that, anyway, Luca?

Quite complex because we had to split up and find every single one of Ash's Pokemon. While I was using Aura Sense to try to locate everyone, others spread out to find them and interact with the various Pokemon. There's a Raichu with self-confidence issues there apparently. Really? My berries are on she's related to Pikachu. Luca… Sorry, Lady Tsubaki. Hah….it's fine, Luca. Anyway…we enjoyed ourselves a bit while exploring the two…and after having to try and drag Noel away from the professor's new Pokemon Yamper. Ms. Noel seems to enjoy the more…cuter…Pokemon, doesn't she? Oh, she does. So did you keep track of everyone in there? Oh yes. Pikachu and Buizel took Togepi and Vale to see Bulbasaur, who just dealt with an issue of a dam being damaged by a Paras that tried to blame the Raichu with self-esteem issues. They…ended up on a log that went to a pond with a territorial Pokemon Gary caught. You have got to be kidding me. That lightning you saw was indeed Pikachu. I am so giving Pikachu extra treats later for protecting Vale and Togepi.

Anyway, Yuki, Merry, and Kenny found one of Ash's Tauros, the one named Grass Dancer… We really need to get all their names one of these days. Chief Thunderhoof, Walks-on-Water, Grass Dancer, Tree-Smasher, Jumps-on-Flames, and Dennis. …Dennis? Yes, Dennis. He's the one who knows Fissure. …Dennis? Moving on! Needles terrifies Spearow and Fearow apparently. Koko had all the Eeveelutions together and gave them all tongue baths. Honey, Berry, and Cherry seemed to be discussing something, I have no idea since Aura Sense doesn't do sound. Squirtle and Terra got into a little…accident…and they got better after the Chansey at the ranch healed them up. Oh my. An accident? Yes. An accident. Moving on. Everyone was eventually rounded up and we informed them of the situation with this 'Mewtwo.' Everyone has agreed to train hard on the extremely high chance we will run into 'Mewtwo' sooner or later. Why do you expect that? …Rainbow. Hero. …Right. Training it is!

"...I'm honestly a bit unnerved," Oak admitted, sitting on a chair in his lab across from Tsubaki.

"Why is that, professor?" Tsubaki asked.

"Ash is actually studying," Oak replied as he looked out the sliding door where Ash and Kajun were sitting with all of his Pokemon…while several notebooks were being held up by Koko and Hikari's Psychic attacks for everyone to look at.

"Oh, this is normal since we encountered this one Pokemon Trainer," Tsubaki replied.

"Really now?" Oak asked.

"Oh yes. It wasn't pleasant, especially the second time when he sent Charmander and Soren to the Pokemon Center for a few days. It really caused a lot of doubt in Ash for a few moments until we snapped him out of it," Tsubaki admitted, the Lycanroc poking his head up from his spot curled up by Tsubaki on hearing his name before lying back down. She smiled gently, patting his head, "But this is a norm for them now. I think Kajun has awakened a hidden desire to teach from all this. And given her deep sister-like bond with Ash, it's just helped them both for the better, even if he still does complain on occasion."

"I must say, you girls have had an amazing effect on Ash. He's grown into his own amazing young man. I suppose most kids do once they begin their journey, but you all have a loving sibling bond with him, like a support system more young trainers could use," Oak smiled, "Keeping him from succumbing to ego or failure."

"It wasn't easy," Tsubaki admitted, "Especially when he gets a winning streak going."

"But you've stuck by him, that much is appreciated by me and his mother," Oak replied with a smile still on his face, "Knowing someone more mature is keeping an eye on him helps ease her, and keeps me from worrying."

"I suppose that's true," Tsubaki nodded a bit, "And...often at times he ends up making us worry for him as well."

"Oh that I can fully agree upon. I once ran this summer camp here on the ranch and do you know what happened the third day with Ash? There was a rampaging Nidoqueen! And Ash? He found she had a thorn in her foot and was nearly stomped on pulling it out," Oak recalled, "I swear that after that, the Nidoqueen was nothing but a mother hen to Ash for the rest of the camp."

"He does have a way with Pokemon, doesn't he?" Tsubaki asked.

"You're telling me," Oak shook his head, "His Starter was a feral Pikachu I caught that very morning. But just look at them now." he gestured outside where Pikachu had climbed onto Ash's head, his hat on the mouse's head, "It's like you'd never know Ash had to literally drag Pikachu out of Pallet Town to get them started on the journey after being electrocuted twice."

"Wait, really?" Tsubaki asked.

"Oh yes. Chewed right through the cables for the lab when Gary, Red, and Leaf were all picking their Pokemon. Red was the one who caught Pikachu with his Poliwag friend before any of them even picked a Pokemon," Oak recalled.

"I do have one question, professor," Luca spoke up…before pointing at Froakie who was watching from a bookshelf near the door, "What is with that Froakie?"

"In all honesty? I have no clue. He just appeared one day and Eevee has yet to leave it be," Oak replied, "Hasn't gotten involved in the pranks Team EKG make…"

"Te-Team what?" Tsubaki asked.

"It's what I call the trio of pranksters that are Eevee, Krabby, and Gengar," Oak deadpanned, "That Froakie has disabled several of their pranks in this lab since it appeared and I think it's considering finding and disabling them as training."

"I-I see…" Tsubaki muttered, "I suppose that's nice of it at least. Still the fact that several Pokemon form a team of naughty pranksters was…unexpected…let alone the fact they are all…Ash's…"

"Oh trust me, I've actually been having a bit of fun assembling little clusters his Pokemon have fit into," Oak noted.

"Really now?" Tsubaki asked.

"Indeed. Though one Pokemon is just speculative on my end since I've only watched videos of him," Oak replied as he pulled out a chart, various stickers of the heads of Ash's Pokemon on it in different circles, "Such as this one." he pointed to Charizard, Pikachu, and Gengar, "I call this trio Team Monster."

"Monster?"

"You've traveled with Ash and you have seen what these three can do," Oak replied, a deadpan expression, "The Pikachu especially."

Tsubaki blinked a few times before recalling Mt. Raizen and that moment, "R-Right…" she looked at the chart and nearly laughed at one of Pidgeotto and Bulbasaur, "Team M-Meema?"

"I have to thank Bill for telling me about how Pokemon address their mothers thanks to his Alpha Dragonite friend," Oak replied, an amused smile on his lips, "And have you seen how these two act around hatchlings? Mother hens, I tell you."

"I think Charizard is still afraid of upsetting Pidgeotto when he tried to not eat when we met him as Charmander," Tsubaki admitted.

"Hah! He is," Oak confirmed, "Charizard practically begged to be sent to Ash before he called to ask for him the last time he used that portal transfer device from Galar to swap Pokemon out."

"What happened?"

"Well, I don't know the full story because I have no Pokemon with Telepathy here at the Ranch, but judging by the smell of cooked bird? He misfired an attack and hit Pidgeotto with it," Oak replied.

"Oh…I see," Tsubaki cringed at that.

"Indeed," Oak nodded before his computer began to beep, "Hm? An EMail?" he rolled his chair over to it and opened the message, "Oh!"

"Is everything alright, professor?" Tsubaki asked.

"Here at the ranch, yes. But a bit to the west here, not really," Oak replied with a frown, "A new colleague of mine, a young Profesor Sakurai, just asked if I could spare some of the stronger Ranch Pokemon to help with a minor issue."

"A minor issue?" Tsubaki blinked.

"A new Pokemon professor?" Ash and Kajun blinked in unison as they turned to look from the now-open sliding door.

"Of course that'd be what snaps you out of your focus," Luca deadpanned, "Wait…How did you…" he glanced at where Froakie had been, only to see nothing, "Clever frog…"

"He needs some help to the west of here?" Tsubaki asked.

"Oh yes. You see, he's here as part of an exchange program of Regional Pokemon Professors," Oak explained, "These Pokemon Professors are ones who study Regional Variants in Pokemon of different regions and how they've changed to adapt to the region they're in. Professor Sakurai is actually a very special Pokemon Professor because he focuses on regional Pokemon…that went extinct. Thanks to the success of the portable Cloning device in the Fossil Rush where Leaf caught her Aerodactyl that she rotated for a day before you arrived, more professors may soon be doing revivals at actual sites where their fossils are found."

"Extinct Variants?" Tsubaki asked.

"You mean, Pokemon in other forms before evolving into what we know them as?" Kajun realized.

"He's done amazing work in discovering historical records of alternate forms of common Pokemon, and is also a well known historian," Oak added, "He's also among the younger Professors, but his work is most astounding."

"So he's some sort of young prodigy?" Tsubaki realized.

"Indeed," Oak confirmed.

"...Ashton, we're taking a break," Kajun spoke up, a glint in her eye as she, Koko, and Hikari brought out notebooks.

"(RUN AWAY! SCIENCE MODE!)" Squirtel screamed as all of Ash's Pokemon aside from Primeape, Charizard, Pikachu, Pidgeotto, and Eevee ran away into the ranch's forest.

"(I-I-I-I'm not sc-sc-scared…)" Eevee stammered, shivering in place.

"(Don't be prideful! Run! It's not worth it!)" Pikachu called out, jumping off Ash's shoulder to push Eevee, "(It's not worth it! Sometimes the brave thing to do is run away. Don't you be a fool on me!)" he dramatically declared as he slapped both his paws on Eevee's face. While traditionally dramatic, to most it ust looked like two Pokemon were goofing around.

"...I'll send a response that I'm sending one of our best Trainers with his five Pokemon here to him," Oak informed, typing away and taking a picture of the five Pokemon with Ash, "And a copy of the battle between Eevee and Pikachu against Lt. Surge as proof to not underestimate these two."

"(Arceus Damnit!)" Pikachu gawked, falling over.

"(Language around my kit!)" Koko snapped, using Psychic to swat Pikachu with her notebook.

"( I was trying to save him!)" Pikachu argued, earning another swat from the notebook.

"What is with us and running into scientists with cloning machines?" Brock asked, the group walking along a road.

"I…don't know…why not ask the person who made 'em?" Ash pointed out.

"...That's a darn good point, Ash…" Brock muttered.

"Only issue is the one we do know made the cloning machines in Kanto is an amnestic elder who loves to take care of abandoned and hurt Pokemon," Luca pointed out.

"No complaining to the nice elder," Noel frowned at Brock.

"Right right…" Brock nervously chuckled as he held his hands up.

"Huh...I wonder what these extinct variants are like?" Makoto pondered.

"They're probably really cool-looking! Oh! Maybe one has stone axes for hands!" Ash speculated.

"What? Like a Kabutops with stone axes instead of sickles?" Mai asked.

"I wonder if any of them are Water-Types," Misty pondered, "It would be nice to see what those were like."

"I bet you'd like to know if he revived any old Rock-Types, huh?" Makoto asked.

"You know my stance on this cloning stuff, Makoto," Brock frowned, "No offense to your Tirtouga, though."

"Eh, none taken from me, but Rumble is gonna have to answer that on his end," Makoto shrugged.

"Fair."

"Personally, I'm curious what led to the variant changes to be what they are today," Kajun admitted, her notebook opened up as she was already writing down spaces for entries.

"Well, I think we're coming up to the place," Tsubaki noted as they turned around a bend to see a modest-sized lab along the coastline…before a wall exploded.

"ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!-!-!-!" a voice howled from the smoke.

"GH!" Makoto jumped, landing in Luca's paws, "What was that?!"

"It sounded like…an Arcanine," Ash recognized.

"Arcanine…those evolve from those cute fire pups known as Growlithe," Noel realized.

"GYAHAHAHAHAHA~!" a voice screamed before a blast of flames shot out of the smoke.

"And there's trouble," Brock frowned.

"Let's go!" Ash called, already running ahead.

"Hmm…" a voice muttered once they got within hearing range, "So…that's what a Fire Blast from you looked like…how fortunate to have a willing test subject visit…"

Some of the smoke cleared as someone walked out. He was dressed in an odd attire of a black kimono, light blue hakama, with sandals, and a long white coat resembling a lab coat over his shoulders. His hair was combed to one side and was a wild mix of blue and red with the hair along the left side of his head cut really short with a pattern shaved into it. He sighed as he looked back inside.

"You've been a real handful since evolving…no…Hachi…down…No…Don't give me the begging face…" he pointed before walking back in, "No…This is not a game of cuddles…you are gigantic…" loud barking followed, "Oh…fine…you get a treat…this time. Now where did you blast that volunteer…oh you know. The one Big Red R on their silly uniform…"

"...Big….Red…R…" Misty slowly repeated as the group looked at one another.

"...Team Rocket's here," they sighed.

"...I'll get them this time," Kajun sighed as she brought out Houdini, "Need to do a bit of tr-" she began...before she noticed that the Zorua was not moving from his spot, "...Houdini?"

"..." Houdini said nothing…before he turned into a Pachirisu and bolted right into Makoto's tail.

"Huh?!" Makoto gawked before another Pachirisu was punted out, "Ah!" she caught the squirrel, "Berry?"

"Chipa!" the Pachirisu fumed before jumping back into her tail…before it puffed out as sparks crackled from the two Electric-Types in it.

"GAH! Hey, hey, hey! We had an agreement, you two! No Electric-Type Attacks in the tail!" Makoto snapped.

"EMOL!" Cherry snapped as she poked out.

"Not you too, Cherry!"

"...Oh for…" Kajun sighed as she walked over," Houdini, what's gotten into you? You know th-" She began before the other Pachirisu changed into a Pikachu...and tried to swap with Ash's Pikachu, "...A-Are you…intentionally trying to ignore this place?"

"Ah! No! Down! Down you big ball of rocky fluff!"

"Oh my!" Noel gasped.

Everyone looked back at the man and their eyes widened. The man was pinned under what looked like a happy Arcanine…but different at the same time. Its orange fur was more of a reddish orange, barely entering the crimson territory of shading. The cream fur was instead a much darker ash with the fur on the hind legs and its tail looking more like clouds of smoke. Its mane was smoothed out, looking more like a flow of magma amongst obsidian, with three horns on the top of its head.

"...is that…..a Arcanine?" Mai slowly blinked as it licked the man as he tried to get it off him.

"Doesn't look like any I've ever seen," Misty noted as Togepi looked on in awe.

"It looks like one…" Ash muttered, bringing out Dexter as he scanned it.

=Error. This Pokemon is an unknown species=

"So…it's not an Arcanine?" Ash pondered.

"Look, Hachi! New snuggles!" the man pointed to them.

"Ar?" the Pokemon looked up and spotted the group…specifically Makoto, "...Ar!"

"Makoto, I suggest you flee," Luca warned.

"Why?" Makoto asked.

"She just said 'chew toy,'" Luca deadpanned.

"...NOPE!" Makoto screamed as she immediately bolted with the dog chasing her, barking happily, "NOPENOPENOPENOPENOPENOPENOPE!"

"Wait, Hachi! No! I said 'snuggles!' No chewing!" the man called out as the Pokemon ran after her, "Oh you silly girl…" he sighed, "Stop! You're bigger than normal Kantonian Arcanines! You can't play rough!"

"NINE!"

"And she thinks you told her to use Play Rough," Luca sighed, facepalming.

"Oh…that poor sweet dumb-dumb…She's been like this since she hatched…" the young man sighed, "I swear she's very sweet and wouldn't hurt you unless she assumed you were bad!" he called out to Makoto, "If she does catch you, scratch as hard as you can below the ears and her mane!"

"Wait, so that's really an Arcanine?" Misty asked.

"Oh but of course! Hachi is an old form of Arcanine. We in my circle call it a Hisuian Form," he smiled, "From a time before the Sinnoh region was even called Sinnoh." he explained, "See, it's actually very fascinating. See, back before it was fully colonized, it was known as the Hisui region. It was a harsh and difficult region to inhabit. You'd never tell given modern Sinnoh…"

"NINE!" Hachi called out, pinning Makoto under its rather immense size and licking her face rapidly.

"Ah! Ack! Ptui! N-No! These are-gak!-unauthorized licks!" Makoto yelped between splutters.

"Mol~!" Cherry called, jumping out of her tail and quickly scratching under the Arcanine's ears, causing the big dog to freeze and fall over, panting happily while kicking a hind leg in the air as Cherry kept the scratching up.

"Oh good! Yes, who's a good girl~? Yes you are, my sweet Hachi!" the man smiled, going over and joining in the scratching, "You're a silly girl, but oh you're so sweet! See? Totally harmless…well…except for your hair…" he put a hand to his mouth to stifle a chuckle.

"Yeah…harmless," Makoto deadpanned, all her hair sticking out to the side due to the slobber.

"Wait…Is she part Rock?" Brock asked as the group approached.

"Yep! Good eye," the man noted, "Hachi here is a Fire/Rock-Type. Her mane actually has traces of obsidian in it due to living on a volcanic island, the stuff actually becoming a part of her variant's diet." he explained, "You would not believe the chaos she caused during my trip to Cinnabar. That poor Gym Leader was not prepared for her at all…" he chuckled as Hachi began rubbing her head against his chest for attention, "Oh yes you…who's a good girl…"

"Um…Are you Professor Sakurai?" Ash asked.

"Why indeed I am," the man replied, "And you must be the Pokemon Trainer Professor Oak sent. Er…Professor Samuel Oak and not his cousin in Alola who was my mentor, that is."

"He has a cousin?" Ash blinked.

"Oh yes, a rather entertaining man. Why, we went on for hours about Regional forms and his countless Pokemon puns!" Professor Sakurai cheered happily, "Why, we often joke that he is Professor Samuel Oak's Alolan form. Charming, isn't it?"

"Um…" Ash blinked a few times before Prof. Sakurai was before Noel.

"Hello now~" he noted, bending down to look at Yuki, "And this is quite the well-raised Alolan Vulpix. Yes, even out of her native habitat, she is doing wonderfully! Her coat is so lustrous and soft…Oh just look at her tails, spectacular~"

"Um…T-Thank you," Noel thanked.

"Vul?" Yuki tilted her head.

"How old is this little one…?" He muused gently massaging her head.

"Oh, she's almost a year old now," Noel replied, "My little Yuki hatched right in my arms."

"Um, Professor Oak sent us to help you with an emergency, Professor Sakurai?" Tsubaki asked.

"Emergency?" he blinked, "Oh heavens no…that was my research assistant, ah…I asked him to watch Hachi while I made a quick run into town to contact my family about sending me some important notes and materials for my research." he sighed, "Something about a break in…someone wanting my specimens or something…How rude! They are not specimens; they are my beloved family." he huffed as he adjusted his coat, "I do believe I left Kintoki to handle the majority of them…They should be either running for the hills or…trapped in a log cabin jail…" he mused in thought as he gently scratched Hachi's ears and led her back through the hole with the others following him in, "I just hope he remembers no using the sharp edges of his axes on humans…That passionate goober will hurt someone without rules."

"Axes?" Ash repeated.

"Oh yes. Kintoki is an extinct evolution of Scyther," Prof. Sakurai explained, "The mineral for it actually originates from the whole Geodude line, but it can only be shed by certain attacks from Scyther specifically and with the population decline in Sinnoh for Scyther, it was eventually lost." he sighed, "I actually got my degree off comparing the Hisuian evolution to the modern evolution of Scizor. Explaining how nature and humanity have had an untold deep effect on Pokemon genetics as a whole!"

"A-An evolution for S-s-Scyther?" Misty gulped.

"Here's a photo of Kintoki!" he beamed, showing her a photo.

"Ah…" Misty squeaked before falling over in a faint, Luca now holding Togepi.

"Even in photo form, he knocks the ladies dead!" Prof. Sakurai chuckled, putting it away.

"...An Arcanine that's Fire/Rock…a long lost evolution of Scyther…" Kajun whispered, her pen practically a blur as she wrote in her notebook.

"LUNA!"

"Ar?!" Hachi began to sweat as the room shook.

A large bear-like Pokemon entered, dwarfing the Hisuian Arcanine by a good two feet. It sported a gray pelt around its back, paws, and round tail. The pelt had nine rectangle brown spikes on its back and four spikes on each side of its head. The front paws had five claws each while the back paws had three claws. The face was brown with a light yellow circle at the forehead, two gray eyebrows, and a light yellow snout with a small black nose. The bear growled at Hachi.

"Ur-Ur! Ursa! Luna-ursa ursaluna!" the bear barked.

Hachi whimpered, her ears drooping. The bear jabbed a claw to a nearby structure resembling a volcanic cave…where a red and black Pokemon egg was in a nest of pillows and blankets littered in ash and soot. Hachi slumped and walked over to the egg, curling up around it. The bear huffed before patting Prof. Sakurai on the head and then sat on its hind legs, giving them inquisitive looks.

"...Wh…What is that?" Mai nervously asked as she pointed at the bear, "...And why does it remind me a lot of an Ursaring?"

"Ah~! This is our residential 'Mama Bear,' Chisa-chan. She is an extinct form of evolution called Ursaluna," Prof. Sakurai explained, "Ursaring used to be capable of evolving by being in contact with a specific kind of peat moss during a full moon. Unfortunately…the introduction of Crawdaunt led to the extinction of the peat moss due to them eating it all. Fortunately…" he ran a gloved hand through the gray fur, "This evolution can come back because this gray 'fur'..." he held up his hand, showing a moss on it, "...is that exact peat moss."

"Wait. If the moss is gone then how did you make her evolve?" Kajun asked.

"Hmm…" Prof. Sakurai smirked at that, "That was the fun part: see, all organic life leaves behind a fossil record. After countless long months trekking through Sinnoh's swampy region, I found it! A fossilized sample of this very moss! Using careful cultivation and some cloning, I was able to harvest a small sample and have been growing some within my family's private estate. If mother asks…I didn't do it." he spoke as if reminding himself.

"Lu," Chisa-chan deadpanned.

"She can't prove a thing…" he quickly argued.

"Astounding," Kajun noted, "Tell me, are there any others you've managed to revive or rediscovered?"

"Oh that-don't touch that ball!" Prof. Sakurai panicked, picking up Berry before she could touch a wooden cream and orange ball as big as a car tire, "Phew…This guy hates being touched without permission." the ball spun around, showing a Voltorb's face with eyebrows that seemed to be made of carved wood, "Sorry about that, Mori."

"Voltorb!" the ball huffed, the voice sounding more of an echo than electronic.

"...Is…that Voltorb?" Ash blinked.

"It doesn't look….angry," Misty cautiously noted once she woke up.

"Angry?" Prof. Sakurai repeated before chuckling, "No no…Hisuian Voltorb are actually pretty friendly." he waved off, "But he deeply respects personal space, and asks you to ask permission to touch first. Example: Mori, would it be okay for me to pick you up in order to present you to my new visitors?"

"...Vol," Mori 'nodded' before rolling up to Prof. Sakurai and hopping into his arms as Berry jumped out of the way and onto Makoto's tail.

"Ah, he's a nervous one of his siblings; but with careful care, he has grown nice and healthy," he mused while gently patting Mori's head, "But like any of his siblings, he is a very happy soul and loves music. As well as using his electricity to bake his food."

"I'm guessing Electric/Grass-Type?" Kajun guessed.

"Bingo," Prof. Sakurai smiled, "Just like the modern Voltorb is said to have come into being from modern Pokeballs lost in the wilds, it's said these guys came from old Apricot PokeBalls explorers of Hisui lost in the wilds near Mt. Coronet."

"So they had PokeBalls even way back when?" Ash asked.

"Oh but of course! The technology and concept of the PokeBall is as old as the very concept of companionship with Pokemon!" Prof. Sakurai smiled, "It has always been a symbol of the bonds we form that allow us to live in harmony! The trust we share forms from when a Pokemon enters a PokeBall and becomes our companion!" he held up Mori passionately, "Don't you agree?" he asked with sparkling eyes.

"Torb!" Mori beamed…before shining bright and exploding.

"..." Prof. Sakurai coughed out a bit of smoke as Mori got out of his hands and rolled off, "Guess his patience ran out…MEDIC~!"

Fleet footsteps echoed before a tall, slender Pokemon leaped into the room. Its head and body were white, and the latter was covered in light green leaves with two small slightly darker leaves coming out from either side. On the left side of its head was a six-petaled pink flower with short filaments jutting out from it, and dark green leaves underneath it. Its light pink and purple eyes looked around before spotting Prof. Sakurai.

"Liligant?!" the Pokemon gasped before doing a small pirouette over, grabbed him, dipped him down before letting him fall to the floor gently, and then got onto her knees and pulled out a medical kit that she began to carefully use.

"Always at the ready with your medical know-how, Hime. I knew having that Nurse Joy visit was a positive influence on you," he chuckled, "Everyone, this is Hime, a Hisuian Lilligant. She had to be revived from a fossil because no modern day Petilil has the genetics of this lost variant. I managed to figure out that they were wiped out by an infestation of Weedle that came to Hisui by a traveling sea merchant. She's a mother of seven adorable Petilil and one Hisuian Lilligant."

"Wait, the children can evolve into the regional form?" Kajun asked.

"But of course, the DNA sequence for this form is revived as well thanks to her kids!" Prof. Sakurai nodded simply, "I can't release them into the wild per say, it's far too risky to introduce them into an ecosystem not fit for them. As such, I keep them either in my lab or my family compound for safety." he explained with a simple nod.

"Gant," Hime nodded as she helped him up before giving a curtsey to the group.

"How is she different from a normal one?" Noel asked in interest.

"Hisuian Lillygant is a Grass/Fighting type!" he smiled, "A Rock-Type's worse nightmare indeed!"

"Ar~"

"Well you shouldn't have eaten her berry salad, Hachi," Prof. Sakurai scolded before whispering to the group, "She had to wear a cone for a few months as a Growlithe and had to have liquid meals due to the kick unhinging her lower jaw."

"...What d-ahh!" Noel yelped when Houdini tried to climb into her arms, taking the form of an Alolan Vulpix, "K-Kajun, please get control of your Zorua!"

"Hm? A Zorua? Ya know, there's actually a Hisuian variant to them and their evolution, Zoroark," Prof. Sakurai noted, "Those ones…I didn't have to revive from a fossil!" he smiled proudly.

"You didn't?" the group blinked as Houdini tensed up.

"When I was looking for the peat moss fossil, I looked around Snowpoint on the off-chance some had been there at the time from an explorer dropping it. I fell into a crevice and, well, there they were. Oh, the Zoroark did not like me until I helped treat her kit that had gotten into a very nasty cave-in," Prof. Sakurai mused at the memory. He smiled as he looked at them, "The cave was sadly their home, so with their trust I invited them to live on my family's land. One of her kits joined my team as a dear friend to me. In fact, she recently had her own kits with an Unovan Zoroark. The litter was half and half! Can you believe it~?" he smiled.

"Really?" Noel asked, "Um…What do Hisuian Zorua look like?"

"White with red tufts of fur and long strands on their heads," he smiled as he motioned them to follow, "Here, take a look." he led them to another room with a glass floor leading to an enclosed space as countless Zorua ran around, half black and red with mischievous looks, the other half white and red with wispy fur and melancholy expressions.

"Ohhh~They're so cute~" Noel cooed.

"Yul-vul!" Yuki agreed, stars in her eyes.

"...Question…" Luca spoke up, shooting Houdini a suspicious look, "What Typing were, or rather are, Hisuian Zorua?"

"O-Oh…" he paused at that, "...Well…Typing can change as a result of environment and…er…situations…" he sadly began before sighing, "The Hisuians of old were very wary of Pokemon at first. They pushed the Zorua line up north into the harsh cold mountains…causing their birth and survival rate to drop…'till they changed from Dark-Typing…to Normal and Ghost…" as if to prove it, one Hisuian Zorua noticed them…before floating up through the glass and nuzzled his leg, "Aw~" he picked it up, "This one's the Zoroark's little kit I told ya about."

"Zor~" it softly purred.

"...Baby/Pix~" Noel and Yuki squealed with hearts in their eyes.

"..." Houdini said nothing as he just…stared at the smaller Zorua.

"It's a sad tale to learn why this variant is the Typing it is…It is also why they distrust humans," Prof. Sakurai sighed, "But…I earned their trust, and am working to atone for humanity's sins of old and preserve a wonderful and loving Pokemon." he smiled, "That is why I do what I do. I can't accept that us humans led such wonderful forms of Pokemon to be lost. So…I shall study them to preserve their legacy; and, if possible, bring them back into a kinder and caring world."

"Wow~!" Ash awed as the Zorua looked at him, "Uh…"

"Ua~?" Zorua phased through Sakurai's arms and hovered over to Ash before looking at Pikachu, "Zorua~?"

"?! P…Pika…" Pikachu nodded, a somber expression on his face.

"Zor~" Zorua nodded before smiling as it landed on Ash's opposite shoulder and nuzzled his cheek.

"Oh~! They can sense an amazing kindness in you!" Prof. Sakurai smiled, "Amazing! It takes them longer to accept a human, let alone let them touch. You must be a one of a kind kid."

"You could say that," Ash grinned, sheepishly scratch his cheek.

"...Luca…?" Tsubaki whispered as she and Kajun looked to the Lucario.

"The Zorua asks Pikachu 'This child died, but is now alive again…How?' Pikachu told him 'It was Ho-Oh's blessing,'" Luca replied, keeping his telepathy just to Tsubaki and Cajun, "Zorua likes him because he is blessed with another chance at life along with the kindness his soul sends out."

"Just beware Mama. She's much kinder now, but she's a very protective sort," Prof. Sakurai warned with a smile.

"Wait, wha…?" Ash blinked. He then yelped when he was lifted up by an unseen force.

"(...M…Meema…?)" Houdini gulped.

"Oh boy! Told ya," Prof. Sakurai noted with a smile…and sweating.

"Who are you…?" a foreboding voice echoed.

"Mou Mama-san…you shouldn't worry. The little one chose to approach him. Papa-san…oi, Papa-san! Do something…AH! Don't hide under the kits, you coward!" Prof. Sakurai scolded as a normal Zoroark could be seen under a pile of both Unovan and Hisuian Zorua, shaking like crazy.

"Um…I'm Ash Ketchum," Ash replied, squinting his eyes as if trying to see 'Mama-san.'

"Zorua~"

"...One chosen by a Legend?"

Slowly, the air before Ash seemed to bleed a white and red color. Before them, with glowing red eyes, was a Zoroark. Its body was a ghostly-white with a wild white mane on its head and around its neck, bleeding into a bloody red. Its claws were as black as night, the light seemingly being soaked into them, as red growths pulsed on its arms and legs. Golden eyes gazed sharply into Ash's…before nodding and gently putting him down.

"One of death…given life once more…The scent of Legends coats your essence…" the voice went on as the Zoroark patted his head, "Cherish what we lost, Chosen of the Legends." the Zorua hopped onto her head, peeking out of the mane of fur, as she turned to Sakurai, "Much to be spoken in pack…We wish to bless the child of a Second Chance…" she phased through the floor, the baby waving to Ash before they floated down and over to the Zorua congregated, "MATE!" the Unovan one jumped and scrambled over, showing how much smaller he was in comparison.

"Hisuian Zoroark sure get big," Brock noted.

"Oh, that's because she's an Alpha Hisuian Zoroark," Professor Sakurai explained.

"She's an Alpha? Like…Like the big honkin' mountain of a Dragonite Bill's buddy-buddy with?" Makoto blinked…while Luca grabbed Houdini before he could try and sneak off, his eyes glowing with Foresight.

"Of course. Th-okay…pausing for a moment," Professor Sakurai said as he looked over at Kajun's Zorua, "Is something wrong with your Zorua?"

"...Honestly, it's feeling like he's trying to avoid this place at all cost," Kajun noted as she looked at her Pokemon, squirming in Luca's grasp, "Almost like….he lived here before…"

"Hmm…" he pushed a button on the wall and a speaker turned on, "Mama-san…I do believe this one needs a look over…" Prof. Sakurai crossed his arms.

Mama-san paused in talking before looking up. She blinked a few times before floating back up through the glass, her kit now in his step-Papa's arms and babbling happily about Ash from what Luca understood. She walked up to Luca, who held up a now terrified Houdini. Mama-san frowned before pulling out a wooden ladle and lightly chopping his head…causing Houdini to go up in smoke…and reveal his white/pale-gray fur with blue coloring instead of red. She looked closely before looking back towards the many kits as several elder siblings tensed and began randomly poofing so they now had blue and pale-gray coloring before changing back. All of them sighed and looked down before moving into a small cave-like area to await punishment.

"Those kits…too much of their Peepa…"

"...What?" Kajun slowly blinked, dropping her notebook in complete shock.

"I don't believe…no, wait. I can believe it," Brock admitted, "Hiding his Regional form would be the best prank ever for him."

"It would seem your Zorua…is a rebellious child of Mama-san that…ran away…" Prof. Sakurai sighed.

"(Uh…H-Hi, Meema…)" Houdini nervously chuckled.

"..." she sniffed before walking up to Kajun, "You…this one's Trainer…"

"Um, well, yes, ma'am," Kajun replied, trying hard to not look away from the glowing eyes.

"...Has he…been well?"

"Oh yes. He gets along with quite a lot of the Pokemon in our large group, even coming up with jokes with some of his fellow Ghost-Types and a few others like an Eevee and Krabby when they're around," Kajun noted before giving Hoduini and the Pokeball with Eevee in it an annoyed look, "Though only one prank was not amusing."

"(I regret everything with the prank of disappearing ink…)"

"This is most amazing! I thought the numbers my intern gave me were wrong due to their being pranked endlessly by Papa-san…but I guess they were not…oops."

"...Raise him well," Mama-san nodded, patting her head before pausing on seeing Noel, "...Azure…"

"Azure?" Noel repeated.

"...Volcano-Runner!" Mama-san called, Hachi peeking her head in with a nervous shiver…before Mama-san pointed at Noel, "Tiny Volcano-Walker. The soul resonates with hers." Noel blinked and Yuki yelped as she suddenly had Hachi's egg sharing space in Noel's arms with, Hachi's tail being the last thing seen slipping through the door.

"...And this is why Mama-san is second-in-command when I'm not around," Prof. Sakurai stated, "Honestly…her alone would have sent those strange folks running with never ending night terrors and…difficulty controlling bodily functions…" he chuckled, "Believe me. Last time someone broke into the Zorua closure, she scared them so bad their hair went white and they looked like they aged twenty years."

"Even the illusion of an unhidden Mimikyu works…" Mama-san darkly chuckled before looking at Houdini, "...Live well…little kit of chaos."

"(O-Okay…B-Bye, Meema.)"

Mama-san nodded before phasing back through the glass and over to her pack. She whistled sharply and Papa-san quickly ran back, carrying the baby of the pack that gave a wave up at Ash as they ran by beneath them.

"Well…Who's hungry? Our resident Sneasler loves to make big meals with her daughters," Prof. Sakurai offered.

"Uhm…." Noel spoke up, "Wh-what just happened?"

"It would seem Mama-san deems you as someone who resonates with this one," he gently tapped the egg, "You, my girl, are now the new Master of the newest Hisuian Growlithe to grace the world."

"E-Eh?!" Noel gasped.

"Now then…seriously, anyone else starving? Being in terror of an angry Mama-san tends to leave you with a big appetite and, like I said, our resident Sneasler and her daughters just love to chef big meals," Prof. Sakurai informed.

"So much just happened, Sir. I think we need a moment!" Makoto gawked…before Ash's stomach went off along with hers, "...Most of us need a moment."

"Oh, we can eat and process mind shattering revelations," Prof. Sakurai chuckled, "What kind of Sakurai would I be if I didn't feed my guests and new friends?" he then plucked Ash's Pokedex, "Which reminds me…" he pulled out a USB and plugged it into the underside of the Pokedex before it beeped, "My personal entries for the Hisuian Pokemon." he handed it back to Ash, "Care to try?"

"Um…Okay," Ash nodded as he held Dexter up to Houdini.

=Zorua, the Spiteful Fox Pokemon. A once-departed soul, returned to life in Hisui which is now Modern Day Sinnoh. Derives power from resentment, which rises as energy atop its head and takes on the forms of foes. In this way, Zorua vents lingering malice. Surrounded by kindness and love, however, will change this lingering malice into lingering comfort and the Zorua may begin acting like its Unovian counterpart. This Zorua is a Shiny variant= Ash aimed down at Mama-san =Zoroark, the Baneful Fox Pokemon. As a result of its appearance, Hisuian Zoroark was said to resemble an embodiment of death. The illusions channeled through Hisuian Zoroark's long withering fur are full of spite. Uniquely, this spiteful illusion can cause physical harm to its opponent on both the inside and outside. This power comes from the hatred it has for every living thing in the world. Hisuian Zoroark's illusion malice is powerful enough to drive anyone who sees it to insanity due to their terror. Hisuian Zoroark recklessly attacks its foes or nemeses, to the point its own bitter energy can cause physical harm to itself. Despite its extremely hostile and aggressive nature to everything, Hisuian Zoroark can be compassionate to those it cares about, however, such as Hisuian Zorua, and it will become an invaluable ally once someone earns its trust. Hisuian Zoroark prefers to reside in the cold areas where it lingers onto. Like its Unova counterpart, Hisuian Zoroark can make its illusion of humans talking, to the point of easily fooling anymore in order to get food. This Zoroark is of the Alpha Variant=

"Whoa~" Ash awed.

'Why do Ghost-Types have to have such scary entries?!' Makoto thought, hiding behind Tsubaki.

"Makoto…" Tsubaki hissed under her breath, "If you do not let go of my chest in three seconds, Luca will have words with you."

"And thank you~" Kajun thanked, plucking Dexter and putting headphones into it and her ears.

"This normal with her?" Prof. Sakurai asked.

"Yeah…" Ash nodded.

"Oh sweet Arceus! This food's divine!" Makoto moaned between large bites.

"Mmm!" Ash nodded as he ate his own, the group at a large banquet table.

"I'm rather curious about the recipes," Brock noted, calmly eating his own food.

"Ah, family recipes," Prof. Sakurai chuckled, "Though Naki and her kids look to be very pleased with how much you're all liking it."

"Sneasler!" a Pokemon beamed from the open kitchen nearby, its sharp narrow eyes with red pupils curved up from its smile.

The Pokemon was as tall as Brock and looked to be a blend of cat and weasel with dark-gray fur with purple accents around its face and ankles, partially hidden by the apron and chef hat. It had long arms that extended to just above its ankles and three sharp toes on each foot. On each arm was a dark brown spot, and its hands had three long claws, which were brown with three red lines streaking through. It had yellow diamond-shaped gems on its chest and head. Its left ear had a long black and red feather that extended down to its back; it also had red and black feathers for a tail. Also in the kitchen, smiling happily as well, were a duo of tinier versions of it with the feathers a pale lilac and tinier on their head and two lilac claws instead of three sharp ones and two claws on their feet…wearing aprons as well.

"They learned from the best," Prof. Sakurai went on, "They actually consider kitchens as their battlefield of choice. And don't you dare change the channel when Iron Chef is on." a moment passed, "No, seriously. Don't do that. My fifth assistant got poisoned and beaten up by these Fighting/Poison Sneasel and their Mama Sneasler."

"What an interesting type combination," Misty noted.

"So how'd they go extinct?" Makoto asked.

"Oh that? Well…that one was caused by humans to be honest," Prof. Sakurai admitted, "Foreign royals wanted their pelts because of the purple coloring. So…hunted to extinction. Naki was cloned from a well-preserved rug I found in an antique shop." a ladle hit him on the forehead.

"S-Sneasler! Sneas!" she stammered, a heavy blush on her face from embarrassment.

"It's an embarrassing tale…" he groaned, "I can only assume any surviving members of their line crossbred with the regular Sneasel line which live in the snowy region…until the DNA strands for their Typing was…lost." he shook his head, "Since this version prefers the rough and rocky terrains over the cold…their typing was not well suited for colder terrains."

"So if they like that…why the kitchen?" Misty asked.

"Naki was well…very panicky…when she was revived, climbing everything in the place," he explained, "My aunt made her a stew on the spot and Naki got curious as she got calmed down by the smells of the cooking. A few days after that, she was following my aunt around, curious about everything in the kitchen. A week later, and I find out my lunch was made by Naki."

"That's amazing." Makoto awed.

"My large family was instrumental in helping my beloved friends get used to the modern world," Prof. Sakurai smiled.

"I get that," Ash nodded, "Bulbasaur and Pidgeotto help out Professor Oak with keeping a bit of order on the ranch and Eevee tends to bring random Pokemon from the Ranch over to my family's house to help mom with new recipes for the diner."

"Vee~" said Eevee mewled, looking up from his food with the other Pokemon nearby.

"It's much the same with my clan! We have so many Pokemon roaming around, helping with every little thing. Our home is rather retro, so we don't have modern electric heating, so we rely on our friendly Fire-Types to help." he mused, "Well that and cuddles from warm companions."

"Really?" Tsubaki asked in interest.

"Yep. All the ladies of the clan are a bunch of sleep-huggers, so be careful if you ever end up spending the night there," he warned as the Hisuian Sneasels swapped the emptied dishes with filled ones, one pausing to pet Yuki and getting a happy mewl from the kit, "I swear they influenced the majority of the female Pokemon I work with."

"While I understand you have things clearly handled here, what will you do if Team Rocket does come back?" Makoto asked.

"Oh yes the goofy ones…" he nodded, "Well they have been rather annoying for the last few months…"

"Months?!" they gawked.

"Oh yes. Never ending knocking, pranks, all around being utter pains in the rear. Oh yes, I needed to give this rather foul mouthed girl who came once a good spanking for the things she said before the hatchlings."

"Seriously?" Makoto asked.

"It was either me or Mama-san. She picked me," he shrugged, "Her poor Charizard was left rather scared of Mama-san though. And frozen…"

"J-Just to be sure…how strong is an Alpha Hisiuian Pokemon?" Tsubaki asked.

"Well, a good number of my dear friends are possibly descendants of powerful Pokemon known as Lords." he explained, scratching his chin, "Which is why they are so big. In fact, Hachi for sure is a child of a Lord Arcanine, who was born a small runt Growlithe before becoming a powerful Lord. See, this means Noel's little one shall grow rather large upon evolving into Arcanine." Noel and the others looked at the egg in her arms, "Oh but don't worry; an Alpha Growlithe isn't so big…" he chuckled.

"Lords?" Brock asked.

"It's an old Legend. There was once a man who unified Hisui, fighting alongside ten Pokemon that became Lords of the region," Prof. Sakurai explained, "They were Wyrdeer, Kleavor, Ursaluna, Hisuian Lilligant, Basculeigon, Hisuian Arcanine, Sneasler, Hisuian Electrode, Hisuian Braviary, and Hisuian Avalugg."

"Hisuian Braviary and Avalugg?" Kajun asked.

"Oh yes, the latter was exceptionally large, even larger than the average Alpha. Legends say it was practically comparable to a galleon!" he smiled, "Sadly, I still have yet to find a sample of such a wonderful beast. But I plan to go visit a dig in Sinnoh within the coming months. With luck, I shall find a sample to clone. I can only assume from old texts but it seems the Hisuian Avalugg was an Ice/Rock-Type and had astounding power," he explained, "It's a rather blunt Typing if you ask me…"

"Double weak to Fighting and Steel…" Ash and Makoto muttered in realization.

"Bingo. Now as for Hisuian Braviary…" he looked over at Ventus, who had been paying attention, "They were a wonder. Instead of being a Normal/Flying-Type, they were a Psychic/Flying-Type. Said to have pure white feathers from head to tail, and glowing flames of psychic energy forming atop their heads." he explained, "They ruled the skies of Ancient Hisui as their defenders and overseers. Truly the sight to see such a gallant Pokemon fly through the cold northern skies."

"Bra~" Ventus awed.

"The only thing is that I heard they were solo acts and never live in flocks." he sighed, "But I have a feather sample to test before I leave."

"...May I see?" Kajun asked as she was instantly before him.

"Oh…" he paused before he began searching his coat and then inside his kimono before pulling out a glass canister with a fossilized feather within, "Knew I had it on me somewhere…" he put it on the table, "This is the one sample I have tested against modern Braviary samples and all results come back inconclusive, at a near 80 percent deviation. Given my research into their natural habitat and breeding grounds, this is conclusively the Hisuian Braviary DNA sample."

"Ahh…interesting," Kajun whispered as she examined it, "To think it would change typing to what it's known as today…ooh! The coloring is a bit of a different color. And the density of it…possibly from a frozen region within Hisui."

"Yes, what was once known as the Alabaster Icelands," Prof. Sakurai smiled, "The home of many Ice-Type pokemon. It was also home to a group of early Hisui natives who called themselves the Pearl Clan. They had a tradition of training their bodies to withstand the harsh colds of the Icelands…while wearing very little clothing. Their old home of the Pearl Settlement would later become Snowpoint City." he sighed, "Sadly, my research into their counterparts, the Diamond Clan, has been less than forthcoming as their old settlement is, as far as I can tell, found under Hotel Grand Lake…and they did not take kindly to my…archaeological expedition…" he sighed while leaning back, "I told them I thought that there was evidence of a Hisuian settlement down under their pool and I just needed to break a little ground…"

"Uhm…so what happened?" Makoto asked.

"I borrowed a relative's Rhyperior to break ground…then I ran out of there with several artifacts…" Prof. Sakurai replied, "Sinnoh authorities are still searching for the Pool Bandit."

"Pfft…Nice," Makoto snickered.

"Makoto…" Tsubaki began.

"Oh come on. We've done much worse in the academy," Makoto pointed out.

"It was just the once, right?" Tsubaki asked.

"Oh Arceus no…I snuck back in on and off again for a month…same pool, deeper hole," he replied, "Eventually, I dug a second tunnel from outside the resort…into my first tunnel…" he chuckled sheepishly, "Funny enough, Hime's fossil was in that tunnel."

"How did you not get caught? Surely someone of great authority should have been called in, like the Champion or something…" Brock muttered.

"...Who do you think helped me make the second tunnel?" he blinked.

Cynthia sneezed and Lance tensed.

"Intruders!" a Team Rocket grunt shouted, spotting the two on the pipe above.

"...Really?" Lance deadpanned at his partner as sirens began to go off.

"It…seems someone was talking about me…" Cynthia noted as lights from thrown Pokeballs began to go off.

"This investigation can't end soon enough," Lance sighed as the two calmly tossed out an Ultra Ball each and Garchomp and Dragonite roars erupted among the screams of weaker Pokemon and Rocket Grunts.

"Yeah, once I explained to her what I found the first time…she joined me in secret operation Diamond Expedition," he chuckled, "Man, can her Garchomp dig…we still had to run, but thankfully we borrowed some stealth gear."

"...Were…?" Makoto began.

"Yes…it was Ninja stuff." he sighed, "Everyone always thinks that based on my attire…"

"..huh…noted," Makoto blinked.

"How…how are…but that's so irresponsible…" Tsubaki muttered.

"I mean…it worked…" Prof. Sakurai muttered, "And, technically, I had the Champion's permission…" he whistled.

"I mean he did…" Ash agreed.

"Science and research are more important," Prof. Sakurai added, "I can't just not broaden our understanding of history and Pokemon just 'cause some business said so."

"Oh so true," Kajun nodded in agreement, "How is anyone supposed to get any history on that subject-IE their history, special traits, likes, dislikes, what changes made them this way, ect- if they cannot get through, even with proper protocols?"

"Right?" Prof. Sakurai nodded, "Ah…but this is also why I burn through lab assistants and interns like Hachi does chew toys…" a moment passed, "No, seriously, I have last month's expenses on me and a bit of it went into chew toys…and most of those went straight to Hachi. Do you have any clue how much attention it takes to care for an adorable Pokemon that comes from a volcano?"

"Uh-oh…" Noel looked down at the egg, "It's for the adorable puppy…you can do it…" she shook her head.

"She's really eager of getting that Growlithe…" Misty quietly noted before giggling as she lightly tickled Togepi, "Though I can't blame her if it ends up as cute as Togepi."

"Milo~" Umi hummed happily as she slithered over and nuzzled the top of Noel's head.

"I'm sure you'll do great. Just…might want to be sure to groom your little one. Hisuian Growliths have a good deal of extra fur around the face…it ends up covering their eyes so they end up running around without being able to see…" Prof. Sakurai chuckled, "Ah…Hachi ran into so many walls as a little pup. We tried to trim, but the obsidian in her fur kept breaking the scissors and electric shavers."

"Oh dear…" Noel gasped.

"The brush people use to clean grills actually works wonders as a brush for Hisuian Growlithe fur," he added.

"Oh right. They're Rock-Type, too," Makoto nodded, "So the fur must be super tough."

"Well the outer layer is soft and fluffy, but the inner coat is much harder and coarse. This is what gives them amazing defensive ability." he explained, "Also be careful of the horn atop their head."

"Horn?""

"Did you not see the three on Hachi's head? There's one on Hisuian Growlithe and it is very fragile." he explained, "It's a point of pride for the little ones so try and avoid any attacks that need them to run head first at something."

"...may need to get something for you to help with that then, little one," Noel whispered as she looked at her egg.

"Growlithe tend to be a very high energy Pokemon," Brock noted, "Imagine an ancient variant."

"Ah…I can't wait anymore to see it," Ash muttered as he pulled out Dexter and tapped on it, displaying a Growlithe with darker orange fur with cloud-like puffy gray fur and a tiny horn on the tip of its head.

=Growlithe, the Scout Pokemon. Hisuian Growlithe's soft and insulated fur allows it to survive the cold weather of Hisui. Growlithe rarely uses its horn unless needed due to it being easily broken. A pair of Hisuian Growlithe are rumored to be vigilant when guarding territory. Hisuian Growlithe take much longer to bond with humans because they have lived apart from humans for many years= Dexter informed.

"That's what I heard the stories say, but Hachi began to pounce on my lap after I gave her the first meal she's had in probably hundreds of years," Prof. Sakurai shrugged, "Diced steak with a pecha berry sauce."

"It seems so misinformed…" Kajun noted.

"Well believe it or not, in the old days, humans and Pokemon weren't friends yet," Prof. Sakurai spoke, "I based my entries off a Galarian researcher's notes, which I found in an old storehouse. See, in the old days, humans feared Pokemon for the amazing power they alone had. Likewise, Pokemon who often don't gather in the largest of groups were intimidated by humans who gather and form large towns. But from my research into Hisui, there is legend of the humans who settled it, the Pearl and Diamond clan, and the Galaxy Expedition Team of Jubilife Village all came together with Pokemon as their companions."

"Galaxy Expedition Team?" Makoto blinked.

"A group of people from multiple regions coming together to help people settle and expand the Hisui Region. They were made of multiple corps teams, such as the Survey, Security, Medical, Supply, Agriculture, and Construction. I even found some odd, if not cooky stories in those notes and ledgers as well." Prof. Sakurai giggled, "Like, a young man falling from the sky, with a glowing glass tablet in hand. Or two brothers who tamed the most powerful Pokemon and fought to defend the region from a great calamity." he snapped his fingers as Hime skipped over and put a wooden box on the table before opening it, "It is most interesting. According to legends these brothers of Red and Blue never got along. They argued and even joined different clans just out sheer spite for one another…but were amazing swordsmen and despite calling one another 'brother,' neither shared a family name…" he nodded his head, "Ah yes…" he presented an ancient painting which was done very artistically depicting two young men, one with silver the other with gold hair, the silver haired one donning red ronin-like attire, while the gold haired dressed in blue samurai-like garb, both had a sword in hand as multiple Pokemon surrounded them. He then put it down as he searched the files, "Ah yes…their names were Ragna and Jin…"

"Hah?!" the girls from another world exclaimed.

"Jin-Niisama?" Tsubaki asked.

"...You know these two in the painting?" Prof. Sakurai asked.

"Mai…lick the painting!" Makoto ordered.

"What?! No!" Mai snapped.

"Mai has a super strong sense of taste to the point she can 'see' memories of things she licks. It's why she only asked for water," Brock explained.

"...So that's a yes they recognize the two in this?" Prof. Sakurai casually asked.

"You will lick it and you will tell us the deets!" Makoto declared.

"Mai, normally I'm against Makoto forcing you to lick, but this is an emergency," Tsubaki ordered, "Lick the painting."

"Absolutely not!" Mai refused.

"DO IT!"

"NO!" Mai snapped as she turned her back to them.

"...This calls for drastic measures," Makoto spoke, "Cherry, Berry, Honey, Booster!" the four of her Pokemon looked at Makoto, "Pout at her. Make it extra strong with quivering lips and big teary eyes!"

"Oh! Um…E-Everyone, you too!" Noel ordered.

"Hmm…Hime…join them," Prof. Sakurai ordered.

"Wait, what?" Mai blinked as she now had all the more adorable Pokemon of Noel and Makoto along with Hime before her…giving her puppy dog pout looks, "N-No…P-Professor, why?!"

"I'm honestly curious," Prof. Sakurai replied, "I've heard of regular folks with weird abilities but sadly never met any myself…" he shook his head, "Besides this is related to my research. So…worst case scenario…you lick several hundred year old paper…"

"...but…I…." Mai began with a groan...before Noel joined in while holding Togepi and Vale, "...Noel, no…"

"Please…do it for the babies?"

"Pri/Tini~"

"...ugh…..fine," Mai groaned as she caved in, "But if this backfires….we will have issues…"

"We'll do whatever you want before we head out to Viridian City," Tsubaki assured as Mai began to step up to the painting.

Mai took in a deep breath through her nose, slowly sticking her tongue out of her mouth as she moved towards the painting…before she immediately turned, "I can't do it! I can't…"

"Oh for crying out loud…" Luca rolled his eyes before he became a blur...and forced Mai's face into the painting.

"?!" Mai tensed as her eyes widened, memories flashing in her head…family memories….and memories of the Red and Blue brothers, "...It really was them…"

"How?!" Makoto shouted in shock.

"I have theories…" Prof. Sakurai spoke, "See, long has there been legends of Pokemon of Time: the legendary Dialga of Sinnoh lore and the mythical Celebi of Johto. Both said to be Pokemon that could…take people into the past. Be it as punishment…or…for the sake of a quest." he explained, "There is even a legend of a young man being flung into the future, nonsense to be sure…but yet the boy in the story is an actual person, and he described the modern Pokeball upon his return home from a journey. So maybe…not nonsense…"

"Huh…What are those?" Ash pondered, looking at a brown humanoid owl in orange leaves and a quadrupedal blue Pokemon in black and purple jagged shell-like armor before pulling Dexter out.

=Samurott, the Formidable Pokemon, and the final stage of Oshawott. Hisuian Samurott is said to have a cold and hard-hearted nature, and is deft with its shell blades. Unlike its Unovan counterpart, which prefers fighting fair, Hisuian Samurott will do anything to win a battle, and prefers to use tricks such as surprise attacks and cheap shots. It remains still and silent until it sees an opponent. Then in the blink of an eye, Hisuian Samurott quickly draws out its two seamitars before instantly thrusting at its enemies. The attacks Hisuian Samurott unleashes are comparable to the ceaseless crashes of waves, and can confuse and overwhelm opponents. The wounds inflicted by Hisuian Samurott are said to take many years to fully recover from= Dexter informed =Decidueye, the Arrow Quill Pokemon. Hisuian Decidueye is said to have a stalwart, fierce personality, although it will tolerate those who do not act hostile towards it. Unlike its Alolan counterpart, it prefers to fight at close-range in order to overwhelm enemies. It tends to have a nomadic lifestyle, wandering the region in search of food. Its legs can deliver powerful kicks that can knock down trees and destroy boulders. Hisuian Decidueye's signature strategy for attacking its foes is to fly forward to unleash kicks, then use its hidden arrow quills in order to deliver multiple attacks in a row=

"Huh….that's odd," Brock spoke up, "I never knew Starter Pokemon had Regional Variants as well."

"Oh yes! It's quite remarkable! There's even records of a Hisuian Typhlosian! But, like Hisuian Lilligant and Sneasel, the genetics in them were lost due to centuries of breeding with their other counterparts," Prof. Sakurai shook his head.

"I-It was a Ghost-Type, too?" Makoto guessed off his reaction.

"Oh yes. It was said to produce sinister violet flames," he nodded, "Also funny enough…while modern day Decidueye were Grass/Ghost, Hisuian Decidueye were Grass/Fighting whereas Hisuian Samurott was Water/Dark rather than pure Water Type."

"...What is with Hisui and Ghost-Types and Fighting-Types?!" Makoto gawked, earning a shrug from Prof. Sakurai.

"Harsh region needs certain tough attributes," he shrugged, "I mean if you were alone in a harsh place filled with Pokemon twice your size roaming around, wouldn't you want to be able to run through stuff to get away or punch harder?"

"...Fair enough," Makoto shrugged.

"Besides as far as I see it, modern Pokemon are not normal," Prof. Sakurai smiled, "If you look at it from the view of nature, some modern Pokemon have changed for the weirder…"

"How so?" Tsubaki asked.

"Well for one?" he pointed at Needles, "Exhibit A."

"Drill?" Needles tilted her head while pointing at herself.

"You can thank Noellie feeding her nothing but her cooking as a Kakuna," Makoto replied.

"But is it not proof?" he smiled.

"He's not wrong," Kajun agreed.

"Oh! I do have some cookies still," Noel recalled as she pulled her backpack out.

"...What in the world?" Prof. Sakurai blinked a few times at the censored contents in a plastic bag.

"Sneasler?" Naki pondered as she and her two daughters looked at it as well.

"Oh! Would you like to try?" Noel offered the three Poison/Fighting-Types.

"...Snea…" Naki muttered, moving her daughters behind her back as she cautiously took a piece of the offered food and ate it, "?! ...SNEASLER~!"

"So…it's highly appealing to Poison-Types, truly interesting…" he got up and walked off as the trio of Poison/ Fighting-Types cheered and munched on the offered treats happily, "If you would allow me, I have some very picky eaters whom I must test this with." he came back with a few PokeBalls, "I can't leave these prickly fellows in a tank without their picking a fight with others each time they pass." he pulled out a few before tossing them up as a flash of light hit a small pool before out surfaced a Qwilfish, but…it was different, the top of its body was colored black with purple tipped spines, and its tail had what seemed to be a magatama symbol. It glared at everyone around it while turning to look at all the new people. Soon another surfaced, then a third…followed by a large shadow below them as a few giant spines poked out.

=Overqwil, the Pin Cluster Pokemon and the evolved form of Hisuian Qwilfish. Overqwil has a very aggressive personality, which has given it the nickname "sea fiend." Its diet consists of poison= Dexter informed =Qwilfish, the Balloon Pokemon. Hisuian Qwilfish is despised by the fisherman of that region, due to their poison wreaking havoc on the humans trying to fish in the seas it lives in through spraying poison on everything, including the fisherman's catches=

"Wow, they look cranky…" Ash noted, leaning in close as Prof. Sakurai panicked and pulled him back just before multiple Dark Pulses almost blasted his face.

"Dark/Poison-Types, kiddo, two of the most…temperamental typings you can get together. Why Alolan Grimer and Muk are cuddlebugs while these two are grumpy guses, I will never figure out," Prof. Sakurai advised, "Ms. Vermillion?"

"O-of course," Noel nodded as she walked over and pulled out a piece, "H…here you go…"

"...Qiwl…." Overqwil frowned as he retracted his spikes and swam over, eyes narrowed as he looked at the food. He then took a bite out of it…before his eyes shot open, a teary eyed look in its eyes before it happily began to eat the remains of the piece Noel offered, "Overqwil~!"

"...huh….so it even makes a temperamental Pokemon like Overqiwil become docile," Prof. Sakurai noted, "Truly interesting…" he wrote this down, "I'll need to give your contact information to a few friends of mine who study Pokemon dietary health and their effect on health and development…also my mother. She finds making a good dish for Poison-Types most difficult."

"It feels like Noellie has a future in culinary arts for Poison-Type Pokemon," Makoto whispered to Mai, who nodded.

"Do you have any other Hisuian Water-Type Pokemon?" Misty blinked.

"Hmm…" Prof. Sakurai mused, "Well yes, but I have yet to finish evolving them to their unique form." he explained as he moved to another section of the pool and put a bit of regular Pokemon food on the surface, after a moment a green fish with white stripes separating the black section atop it surfaced and began munching on the food. He took a step back, "Easy now, this shy fellow is a Hisuian Basculin, who unlike the invasive and pesky Blue and Red striped versions, this white striped version is not invasive nor is it hyper aggressive. It's in fact a very gentle and timid Pokemon. He has a mate as well. I needed one of each gender as my research showed that Hisuian Basculin have gender dysmorphic evolutions."

"Dys-what?" Ash asked, looking to Kajun.

"It means that they have different looks depending on the gender," Kajun explained, "Like White Truth's Meowstic. The male Meowstic is blue and white while hers, a female, was white and blue."

"Oh…" he nodded in understanding.

"Yes, exactly." Prof. Sakurai nodded, "Though there are few records of how to cause evolution within them…all I have to go off of is the Journals of the Red and Blue Brothers with one saying…and I quote: 'It hit stuff a lot…then got big…'"

"...And the other?" Makoto asked.

"'After repeated use in battle…it proved itself worth keeping…'" he groaned.

"...Yeah…That second one sounds exactly like Jin," Makoto deadpanned.

"The thing being one clearly had the male variant and the other the female variant," Prof. Sakurai added, "Males form Red Ghost-Type energy wisps around their body; the female's a pale white/blue wisps energy. They got their matching colors and both assumed it was the result of their bond."

"...Have you tried recoil Moves?" Ash asked, causing everyone to look at him, "...What? They both sound like they're saying they used a move like Take Down a lot. The Red Brother's especially."

"You got that, too?" Makoto asked, "It was kinda obvious."

"..." Prof. Sakurai blinked at that, "Huh…I suppose I overanalyzed things and didn't stop to…and pardon my saying, young man…think like a meathead."

"Tsubaki and Misty call me and Makoto that a lot when we do something they call crazy," Ash replied.

"Gee…I wonder why?" Misty and Tsubaki deadpanned in unison.

"I suppose my love for the poetic beauty of history…led me to assume they were more…graceful in their personal diaries." Prof. Sakurai sighed, "Turns out they were just a bunch of lunkheads beating eachother with sharp pointy things…"

"Any chance I could see Jin's?" Tsubaki asked.

"Oh no worries…" he pulled out a phone, "I wasn't so silly as to keep them as is, I scanned, digitized, restored and cleaned up their handwriting. I keep them on files in my phone, computer, tablet, and back ups in personal hard drives." he held a hand out, "Your phone, Pokedex, or any other electronic device with a screen, please?"

"Oh…well…" Ash began as he held his PokeDex up, "Technically all we have is my PokeDex."

"Wait…so you've been traveling around without a cellphone or a Poketch from Johto all this time?"

"First year of being Trainers," Tsubaki admitted.

"...All of you?"

"Gym Leaders that have family taking our places," Brock replied, pointing to himself and Misty, "But with monetary issues due to several reasons."

"My oh my…" he sighed, scratching his chin before he walked off, he then opened a desk and began pulling out smartphones, "My many interns and assistants leave these behind so often…" he put them on the table, "I can activate them…but I'm not going to keep paying the service for you. So you better start earning some pocket change of your own~"

"...Thank Arceus I handle the money," Tsubaki whispered to herself.

"Here, I'll send you the copy of the Blue Brothers, and add the Red Brother's just for the sake of posterity." Prof. Sakurai mused, "Believe it or not, reading both adds context and keeps both a little honest. I can also add some extra materials I used to rebuild their story."

"Do you perchance have a book about all of this?" Kajun asked.

"Book, no…Extensively written research paper to present to my historian friends for my Doctorate…yes!" Prof. Sakurai cheered, "It tops out at almost…two…thousand pages?"

"Oh, a nice bedtime read then," Kajun smiled as most of the others just gave her a look of disbelief, many of the Pokemon included.

"No, she…she's being honest here. Two thousand pages is a bedtime story for her," Mai sighed, "Roommates in the academy."

"You kids act like you know the Blue Brother…could he be your friend lost in time?" Prof. Sakurai asked.

"Yeah. He was a classmate of ours, Jin Kisaragi," Makoto replied, "And Tsubaki here had a…" Izayoi's blade pointed at her neck, "...a childhood friendship. I was gonna say childhood friendship. Certainly not having a crush! Eh-heh-heh-hoo-ooh…" the blade went away, "Phew."

"...Why did you not try absorbing her soul?" Luca asked, focusing it on the blade that Tsubaki sheathed and let float away.

"(I absorb souls that I choose to. Lady Tsubaki has quite the natural talent with the blade)," Izayoi huffed as she used her tassel to grab a Berry to eat.

"...You're terrified beyond thought for your life, aren't you?"

"(Be silent or I'll absorb your soul.)"

"So if you know the Blue Brother, surely you also know the Red Brother, Ragna?" Prof. Sakurai asked.

"...I think I saw him once," Mai replied, "He seemed kinda nice despite the gruff exterior."

"I didn't think he had a brother…" Makoto muttered. She then paused, "Think Jin settled down and had like a family in the past?" she blurted out, making Tsubaki freeze.

"..." Luca scooted away from Tsubaki and behind Ash.

"Uh…"

"Her Aura just went terrifying to me just now," Luca focused his Telepathy on Ash, "You are the safest spot if she erupts."

"Makoto, that's…I mean….well…he was stuck in the past…" Noel muttered sheepishly, "But you could be considerate of Tsubaki's feelings at least. Who knows how she'll react to learning he lived an entire life…alone…separate from her…in the past…"

"If it at all helps, those journals cover at most a year or two…" Prof. Sakurai muttered, "Their history is a total mystery beyond a few months after some great battle that happened at the peak of Mount Coronet." Tsubaki took a breath as she began to calm down, "Honestly, the common theory is the two brothers, unable to settle their differences…both fought to the death and died in combat against one another!" Tsubaki tensed and fell over, her eyes blank with foam coming out of her mouth.

"Tsubaki!" Luca yelped, pulling out a fan as he ran over and started fanning her with it as Izayoi scrambled for a pillow from Tsubaki's pack while Soren and Astrea snickered…until Soren was distracted with calming down a crying Vale.

"That's not better!" Noel shouted, shaking the young profesor.

"Okay, now that sounds more like the Jin thing to do…" Makoto muttered.

"Sorry, but that's all the records say. They greatly disliked one another and even when working together for the greater good, all they could agree on was finishing matters to return to hating each other. It was common for them to greet one another with the clashing of swords and Pokemon then a brotherly hug." Prof. Sakurai spoke while still being shaken.

"...Bun?" Honey looked at the portrait, seeing a tall figure in a red jacket near Ragna, "Bun!"

"Huh?" Makoto looked at where Honey was pointing with her ear, "...That's a big Buneary."

"Big bu-no, that's a Lopunny," Kajun corrected, looking at the tall Buneary-looking Pokemon in the portrait with ears reaching down past her knees with yellow fluff on the lower legs, wrists, and ends of the large ears, "A very big one at that."

"Ah yes, the tales say the Red Brother Ragna famously was often followed by an Alpha Lopunny that seemed quite attached to him. She would follow him anywhere across Hisui 'till he gave in and took her as one of his Pokemon. Some jokingly state his Lopunny was actually in love with him." he chuckled, "Oh how novel, but I can't really say why he chose Lopunny…I mean, unless he had a Mega Stone…"

"Mega Lopunny?" Makoto asked.

"Bun~!" Honey awed, stars in her eyes.

"Oh yes. Not my area of expertise, but most know of this being a thing." he stopped Noel's shaking as he pulled out a PokeDex and began scrolling through, "Ah here it is, the Mega Entries~" he handed it to Makoto, "Continue," he smiled to Noel.

"Thank you." she nodded before shaking him again.

"You will see what Typing it offers, benefits, and etc…If you wish, I have an aunt who specializes in rare stones. Mayhaps I may place an order for you!" Prof. Sakurai offered.

"...How long will we be in Pallet until the League?" Makoto asked Ash.

"Um…if we get to Viridian City in a day like I did my first day and I beat the Gym Leader the next…um…" Ash thought before Charizard huffed, pulled out Ash's bag, and opened it, letting Pidgeotto pull out a calendar covered in pictures of Pokemon and tossed it to Ash, causing it to bonk on his head, flip over and land in his hands, opened to a date circled three times, "Oh. Uh…Three months until the Indigo League. Thanks, guys." Charizard bumped his fist with Pidgeotto's wing as both nodded in unison.

"Right. Gotta place an order for delivery to Professor Oak's ranch for around that time then," Makoto nodded as she and Honey looked in the book, "Oh my Arceus, your Mega Evo looks so awesome, Honey!"

"Buneary!" Honey nodded.

"Right! Training you up big time to be a big ol' Lopunny who'll beat the pants off everyone!" Makoto declared before nodding at Needles, "Just like with Needles."

"Bun!?" Honey paled, thinking she'd have to eat Noel's cooking.

"That's the spirit, Honey!" Makoto cheered, picking up the Buneary and hugging her, "Oh, my team is gonna be full of the baddest Pokemon!"

"Hmm…" Prof. Sakurai muttered, "If possible, I suggest finding and training with a Fighting Expert. I read that Lopunny of Ancient Hisui was much more powerful, able to unleash an attack I'm certain was the move Close Combat, a devastating heavy hitting move that costs defensive power for the ability to deal a powerful barrage of hits. Normal Lopunny aren't shown using the move, but if ancient ancestors could…"

"Oh, I like that idea," Makoto grinned.

"Lil!" Hime held her hand up at that.

"Oh! Hime knows Close Combat!" Prof. Sakurai smiled as Noel took a moment to catch her breath from exhaustion, "She can try and teach you!"

"Bun?" Honey looked up at the Grass/Fighting-Type.

"Gant!" Hime nodded.

"Bun!" Honey cheered.

"With how close you seem to be with your Honey, I'm sure she'll evolve in no time," Prof. Sakurai smiled.

"Aw thanks!" Makoto beamed.

'I think we're going to be spending a bit more time than expected here…' Brock thought.

Noel patted the Pokemon egg, wearing a blue nightgown as she sat on her guest bed while Yuki slept softly, curled up atop the covers with a tiny pink nightcap on her head, 'A Growlithe…When you hatch, that means I'll have six Pokemon now. I wonder what I'll name you…' she gave it a small hug, 'Will you run around, chasing your tail when it catches your eye? Maybe you'll be sneaky and steal Karai's bacon pancakes when she's distracted by you using Bite on her Charmander's tail again? Bolverk…' she blinked twice, 'Huh…? Who…Who's Karai?' she grimaced before holding the side of her head, her eyes flickering to a soft azure for a moment, 'O-Ow…my…my head…' a cold presence came before the pain in her head settled, "?!" she looked up to see Mama-san looking down at her, a dark aura coming off the paw on the blonde's head.

"One in pain tries to connect," she 'spoke,' "A disturbance in soul…in Azure…Keep hold of your connections. They will pierce the pained one's connection." she looked out the window, "The red star glows brighter than before…"

"Um…th-Thank you…" Noel thanked, "...Mama-san…why did you have Hachi give her Egg to me?"

"...The spirit in here wishes to be with you…" she replied, her other paw gently tapping the top of the egg, "One that transcends that which erases that which lived to give life once again…" she looked at Noel, "You are more than what you or others perceive…A fate you would befall is cast away due to what you experience in this world…"

"E-Eh?" Noel pondered before Mama-san phased through the floor, "What did she mean by all that?"

"Vul~?" she looked down to see Yuki sleepily rubbing an eye with her paw.

"O-Oh. I'm sorry, Yuki. Did I wake you up?" Noel asked.

"Pix…" Yuki mumbled before scooting closer to Noel and looked at the egg, "Vu?"

"They'll be your little sibling," Noel spoke, giving her a small smile, "You're going to be a big sister." she looked down at the egg, "...Hachiko. Your name will be Hachiko." as she patted the egg, it felt warmer, "I think they like the name. Do you, Yuki?"

"Vulpix~" Yuki nodded before yawning and curled up into her side, a paw ending up in her mouth that she sucked on in her sleep.

Noel giggled before lightly kissing the top of the Vulpix's forehead. She tucked the egg under the covers with her as she laid down. Minutes passed and Noel soon joined the others in sleep.
