Author's Note: WHAT IS UP MUCKAAACHUNGAAAAS!? IT'S TRAVEZTY!And I am here to bring you guys the biggest project I have ever decided to undertake! Today I am going to bring you guys a story that had been inspired by the author "bladeofthebookworms" both in their stories "Hero of the Zonai" and "Requiem of Light". This story will be my take on what would have happened throughout BotW/TotK's History if a few changes were made to the overall story. However, I want to make it clear here and now that Blade's Stories are the inspiration for this, everything here has gone through them first, and they have approved of everything that I intend to do with this story. So before anyone shouts "plagiarism" I already have that covered! However, this first Book in the story will be done in a different manner than Books 2 and 3.
To give a brief overview, I have seen all of the Cutscenes for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, so I know the basics of what I'm getting into, but for Book One, I'm going to be doing something completely different. I am going to be having this take place during Hyrule's Founding/First Great Calamity, and I will be doing it in the way I see fit! This will ultimately influence how the story flows in the First Half of Book 2, but other than that, after the First Half of Book 2, I will be referring to my personal gameplay of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom to create this story, so during the Second Half of Book 2 and all of Book 3 (for the most part) it will be pretty much how I translate my gameplay into this series. Other than that I hope you guys will like the story I am going to be showing you all today! Also I will say that this story will not follow Canon, this is, as Blade described it, the result of a Butterfly Effect due to Zelda speaking up more about her time and, for the lack of a better term, spending as much time with Mineru as she did with her ancestors, Sonia and Rauru. And to emphasize this point, the Quote from Ganondorf from TotK about Mineru and Rauru being the Last of the Zonai? Yeah throw that out the window, make that actually an assumption of Ganondorf's that Mineru and Rauru are the Last of the Zonai, but any more than that is considered spoilers. Anyway please be sure to Follow, Favorite, Review, and Share this story with Anyone and Everyone you know who likes Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild & Tears of the Kingdom Content. Chapter 1:
"So this is the Purah Pad?" A feminine voice asks, "It is quite an interesting device!" Princess Zelda looks at the Zonai in front of her with a smile. "This is… Most definitely not from our Era!" Zelda can sees the Zonai's ears twitching, almost in excitement as she looks at the Purah Pad, Zelda finding the display adorable, and in her mind, equates King Rauru's sister to that of a rabbit, where her brother, despite having a similar appearance to that of a horse or camel, at least based on appearance. "That said, I believe I might be able to get it's travel functionality working here! Could be useful in an emergency!"
"R-Really?" Zelda asks, hopeful.
"If I may be allowed to borrow it so I can tinker with it!" Mineru says.
"By all means!" Zelda says, "I really appreciate your help, Lady Mineru!"
"Then I'll hold onto it for a bit, and just Mineru is fine, niece!" Mineru says as her ears start twitching rapidly with excitement as the Zonai woman seems to hold back an excited squeal as she gently hands the Purah Pad to a construct.
"So do you believe my story? That I'm from the far future?" Zelda asks.
"Without a shadow of a doubt for a moment! Although…" Mineru says, sniffing the air, "I smell the scent of a Male Zonai on you, tell me, does one of our tribe's exist in the future that you have claimed one as your lover?" Zelda blushes bright red as she hears that but does her best.
"N-no… The Zonai are all extinct by my time, but their descendants live on. A-according to research done by the mother of someone d-dear to me, the Zonai themselves are extinct, but the tribe's did exist up until 10,000 years before the time I was Transported from, albeit as hybrids of their Ancient Ancestors and Hylians." Zelda explains, stuttering, "Later, when a great evil decimated their numbers, they merged with different peoples to completely disappear. M-my dearest friend, he's a direct descendant of the Ancient Hero, who was the son of the Chief of the Dragon Tribe and the Last of the Ancient Zonai Women of the Owl Tribe."
"That is quite unexpected!" Rauru says, a bit taken aback, "Mineru and I are the Last of the Owl Tribe!"
"What?" Zelda asks. Though Mineru, shifting a bit, clears her throat.
"W-well that explains it then. In any case, big sister, is there any way we can get Zelda back to her own time?" Rauru says, getting back on track.
"I suspect it was the power of Zelda's Secret Stone that allowed her to travel through time." Mineru explains, "To put it simply, a Secret Stone's ability is to amplify the magic present within an individual, and upon first obtaining a secret stone, the individual feels a powerful surge of power that, without proper training, is extremely difficult to replicate." Mineru then touches her Secret Stone. "For example, I initially had the power to separate my Soul from My Body, allowing my body to enter a stasis so that I can avoid death or possess objects. With training I learned that I could also use music to generate localized magical effects with songs I know instinctively. My secret stone amplifies those powers, granting me the ability to possess entire constructs or even other beings, as well as increasing the range and power output of my songs."
'That sounds similar to Link's Spirit Magic!' Zelda thinks. "My dearest… He has Spirit Magic as well, he has the ability to summon a Wolf to his side as a manifestation of his soul, and can use magic to create magical effects." Mineru starts shifting more.
"A-ny-way! Rauru's Light Magic allows him to repel or destroy evil, with his Secret Stone increasing it's area of effect, as well allowing him to tap into his ability to borrow magic from others to increase his own power for a short time." Mineru says, "And Sonia, she can control time, allowing her to reverse the flow of time, speed it up to give an object more momentum, and even slow it down to a snail's pace, or even a grinding halt. As for you, I can sense both Light and Time." She then looks at Zelda's Secret Stone, "If a person possesses more than one magic type, a secret stone, more often than not, only amplifies the element that is stronger, but if both are equally strong within the individual, it will, rarely, only amplify one element at a time but will take on the appearance of the on the symbol and color the one has a greater affinity for between them." Mineru thinks, and Zelda gets a sneaking suspicion as to what Mineru is implying. "Tell me, which of your powers did you access first?"
"Light, I believe, but only after trying and failing for so many years, and only for it to appear in a desperate moment." Zelda says.
"That's odd, because, based on the symbol and coloration of your Secret Stone, your greater affinity is for Time Magic. If you had tried to access your Light Power, with which you had a weaker affinity for, then it would only make it that much harder to-" Mineru says, looking at the shocked look on Zelda's face as her mouth hangs open, only to look down and clench her fists "Zelda?"
"OH MY GODDESSES! IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!" Zelda shouted at the top of her lungs, holding her head, but then begins laughing while shedding tears of joy and relief.
"Zelda, are you alright?" Rauru asks, placing his hands on his descendant's shoulders.
"I am, Rauru! More than that, I am so relieved and overjoyed that you cannot understand. For years, my own father berated me and belittled me because I couldn't access my Light Powers, and no matter how hard I prayed or trained, it just wouldn't work until, in a moment of desperation, I accessed them. All this time, I had been working with powers I had a weaker affinity for, and they wouldn't activate when I used them because of it!"
"That is what I feared. If you wanted to gain unlimited access to your Light Powers, your weaker affinity, you'd need to master your stronger affinity first, it would help you get a grasp on what you need to do and give you an epiphany on how to access them." Rauru says, "My children, Hylia, Kaepora and Gaebora, all went through the same thing, and it was Mineru who figured it out and helped them overcome these hurdles."
"Our father was the same way with us when we couldn't open our Eyes of Truth, especially so with me when he learned I had Spirit Magic instead of Time Magic…" Mineru says, holding back bad memories with a slight snarl. "That is in the past though… In any case Zelda, your Secret Stone seems to amplify your Time Magic primarily, and, ultimately, the stones only Amplify your powers, it doesn't miraculously grant you control and mastery. That still requires training, meaning if you don't already know how to get yourself home, and your getting Transported through time was due to the Surge…" Zelda, wiping her eyes, sighs a but, melancholic.
"Are there any other ways of transporting one through time, Mineru Onee-sama?" Rauru asks.
"Well one story I heard was if you knew a certain Spirit Song and had an affinity for Time Magic, you could transport yourself up to 3 days back in time, starting at dawn of the earliest of those days… However, when this was tested by the Boar Tribe, it was said to have dire consequences, so they refused to tell anyone how to do it again. The range limit of this particular song was 3 Days starting at dawn, and the stories say that it took the original user 3 days to master before he pulled it off successfully." Mineru explains, but then the term "Boar" catches Zelda's attention. "So even if we could feasibly get Zelda to master the song in 3 days, it's already the second day since she has been here, so she would be hard pressed to learn it fast, and even then, she might not be able to transport herself far back enough in time to the point she left."
"Okay, are there any other solutions?"
"There is an experiment that I have been working on, a medical unit that freezes a person in time and slowly heals all but the most fatal of injuries, and then holds them in a form of stasis until a set amount of time has passed." Mineru explains, "Only problem with that is I haven't been able to figure out how to fix a certain bug in it's Programming that erases the memory of whoever is placed in it."
"Wait, that sounds like the Shrine of Resurrection!" Zelda says, shocked.
"You know of it?"
"Yes, it exists in my time, and it works just as you described, bug included!" Zelda explains. "I studied our Sheikah Technology, and after the Calamity, I discovered that the Sheikah Technology originated from Ancient Zonai Tech, which the Zonai of 10,000 years before my time aided in!"
"Interesting… I'll see if I can figure out how to get rid of that bug, then maybe we can help you get back to your time… However…" Mineru says, rubbing her cheek, but then her eyes turn slightly grim. "One final option we have is a Forbidden Act called Draconification." Thisncauses both Mineru and Rauru to flinch slightly, "The stories surrounding it indicate that "To Swallow a Secret Stone is to become an Immortal Dragon… One blessed with Eternal Life"..."
"Interesting… Another way to reach the future, but like the Shrine, not a very quick one… Do you think the stories might hold a clue as to our dilemma, sister?" Rauru asks, only for Mineru to shake her head.
"Initially, I thought so, but I just remembered that there are more to those tales. They say that "To become an Immortal Dragon is to lose oneself". That is why it is Forbidden… Our mother, Naydra, had sacrificed herself to become an Immortal Dragon to save us and father during the End War, and Father believed that with Light and Time Magic being channeled through somebody who holds the dragon's original self dear, that the process could be reversed…" She then shakes her head again. "I thought this may lead to a solution, have some way to transcend time, and if our Father's theory was correct, then there could be a way to reverse it afterwards… But if you have to sacrifice your heart and mind, everything that makes you "you"..." Mineru looks down as her ears fall to her side with a sorrowful look on her face. "I'm sorry, Zelda, I wish I could do more."
"I… Thank you… It's more than I hoped for…" Zelda says.
"Darn it, back to square one…" Rauru says, "But don't despair, Zelda. I think that with time and study, and with Sonia's guidance, maybe we can find a way to get you home through hard work, training, and understanding the nature of your magic. If you want, we can even have you work with Mineru on possible solutions, including the Shrine of Resurrection! That way if brute force and knowledge don't work, we at least have a way to get you back home!"
"Yes! Thank you, Rauru!" Zelda says. Rauru smiles as Zelda goes to talk with Mineru and he leaves them to it. "Mineru, I was wondering, would it be possible to see the other Zonai Tribes that are alive in this Era? I've always been fascinated with what I learned in my own time!"
"Of course, I was actually going to make a visit to the Boar Tribe in a few days, they had some projects they wanted my insight on." Mineru says, "Now, a bit of a personal question?"
"Huh?" Zelda asks.
"Who is this "dearest friend" of yours? From the way you speak and your body language, it seems he is more than just a friend!" Mineru teases, smiling.
"I would like to know this as well!" Queen Sonia says, walking into the room with Rauru having gone back to the Castle.
"Uh… Uhm…!" Zelda says.
"Don't worry, Zelda, it's just us girls here!" Sonia says, "We won't breathe a word on it until you're ready!"
"W-well… His name is Link… He is a Hylian Knight of the House of Lorule, a Cadet Branch of House Hyrule formed by the Ancient Hero after he married into the Family." Zelda says, "He and I didn't get along all that well at first, namely due to my being rather verbally abusive and taking out my resentment and frustrations out on him when my Light Powers wouldn't manifest."
"And, from what you told us, your own father's neglect and non-physical abuse made things worse, and you had nobody to vent to." Mineru says. "So you took it out on him…?"
"Yes… That is until, one day, when I finally lashed out at him when, as I would find out later, when he simply came to make a peace offering and let me vent to him. He finally snapped and shouted at me, and then just left, dropping his peace offering and riding back to the castle… I arrived later that day to find out Link's entire family had been murdered while he was away." Zelda says.
"Poor boy…" Sonia says.
"I knew what it was like to lose a parent, but to lose one's entire family, and in the way I found their corpses… It was horrible… They were carved up and hung from hooks like slaughtered animals, especially Link's little sister, Aryll, a girl who was barely 6 years old." Zelda trembles as she recalls the memory. "After that, I tried to be kinder to Link and open up to him, and he slowly opened up to me. It was thanks to him my Light Powers woke up in time to save him, and I realized how in love I was with Link. Even after 100 years of holding back the Calamity, I still loved him, even after he lost all of his memories and his personality changed. However, I believe that after he lost his memory, the Real Link showed himself, the version of Link that only one of my friends knew. An Energetic, Emotionally Driven young man with a bottomless pit for a stomach, and a reckless bravery that allows him to never back down from any challenge presented to him." Zelda smiles as she describes Link. "And…" she lifts her hand, revealing a beautiful golden ring with gemstones set in the form of the Silent Princess, "Hours before we investigated the Gloom, he proposed to me, right in front of the Lover's Pond…"
"Oh my!" Sonia says, smiling at her descendant.
"He must be quite the young man to win your heart!" Mineru says, sniffing the air again, "And by the scent of him on your skin… Is it possible that-"
"Mineru…" Sonia says, "I think Zelda will tell us about her "activities" with Link when she is ready. No need to force it out of her."
"You're right, my apologies Zelda!" Mineru says.
"Don't mind Mineru, she's got something of a dirty mind when it comes to romance." Sonia says, smirking.
"Oh…" Zelda says, blushing bright red.
"So what else can you tell us about this Link?" Mineru asks.
"Well Link, much like yourself, Mineru, is a Spirit Mage, and it is truly fascinating how many forms of Spirit Magic his natural abilities cover." Zelda says, "He naturally possesses Manifestation and Song Magic, but I have seen him using Gifts and even Transformations using his Songs. It is truly amazing. He can manifest his soul in the for of a large wolf the size of a horse with white and gold fur and ruby red eyes. It is truly a magnificent creature, and before Link lost his memory, it was boisterous, energetic, and rather vocal, but after that it became stoic and silent with an instinct that seems to border on Logic to keep Link safe and his emotional outbursts in check."
"Amazing!" Mineru says.
"He also has a great many songs that he often hums, whistles, or vocalizes. However, there was one time I had heard him sing when he was really angry after one of the Champions of Hyrule had provoked him… Link had gotten so angry with Revali he summoned a massive storm that threatened to destroy Rito Village…." Zelda explains, "Luckily Link only summoned that storm to prove a point, and when he saw it was taken, he stopped it and just, for the lack of a better term, stormed off afterwards. Father was furious with both of them, but Link promised not to sing that song afterwards. Once he regained his memories, he was terrified of what he was capable of doing in anger and hasn't sung that song ever since, not even when it could help him clear obstacles or defeat swarms of enemies when he needed it." She shivers at that, "It may be very rare that he ever gets that angry, but whenever he does, Link is absolutely terrifying, but more than that…" She clenches her hips together, "He knows just how to get me excited around him…"
"Oh?" Mineru asks, only to receive a sickeningly sweet smile from Sonia, a warning not to press forward. "Well, in any case, there is one last thing I wanted to ask you about this Link… It's said that Female Spirit Magic Users can pass on their Spirit Songs from themselves to their children… Is there any particular song that you think I could actually learn?"
"There is one that he hums quite often, mostly when he is cooking, but he also whistles it when he calls his wolf, Ravio…" Zelda says, and hums it out, only for Mineru and Sonia's eyes to widen at that. "What? What's wrong?"
"I-It's nothing…" Mineru says, almost looking pale at that was she looks away.
"Zelda, dear, how about we give Mineru a minute?" Sonia asks, gesturing for Zelda to step outside, and once they are outside Mineru's workshop, Sonia looks at Zelda. "Zelda, it is nothing you did, but I think you just revealed something to Mineru that I don't think she was ready for."
"What did I do?" Zelda asks.
"That tune you hummed… That was the song her mother used to hum when she was cooking, or Mineru told me. Mineru also does it when she is working on something, or whenever she is cooking her own meals at her workshop. As she said, Spirit Songstresses pass their songs from parent to child while their children are still growing in their wombs… And if Link is a Spirit Mage…" This causes Zelda to gasp.
"Then the name "Mineru"... It wasn't a coincidence…" She looks back into the shop, "She is Link's Ancestor!"
"Mineru… She was never loved by anyone other than her Rauru and her mother… If I had to guess, she suffered the same way as you did, only in a different manner… So she has never thought of herself as being good for anything other than being a tinkerer…" Sonia says, looking sadly in Mineru's direction. "Mineru has always wanted to have a family of her own, but… What she has been through has caused her to live vicariously through Rauru…"
"Oh dear…" Zelda says, "Still, I know in the depths of my heart she is Link's Ancestor, I know she will find that man who will love her and give her the family she deserves…!" She looks at Sonia with determination.
"I am sure you are right. Besides, I am sure Link probably inherited some of her traits without realizing it…!" Sonia teases, Zelda blushing, her ears turning red at the mention of that as a memory appears in her head during one of their more "intimate" moments. However that is when Zelda places a hand on her abdomen, imagining herself pregnant with Link's child, and she smiles as she hopes about that day to come. Sonia smiles at her descendant, guiding Zelda away as the two of them make their way towards a garden where Sonia sits across from Zelda, holding a stone in her hand. "Now Zelda, let us begin your training in the art of Time Magic…"
"Yes, I am ready!" Zelda says.
"To begin, Time Magic involves contemplating, understanding, and imagining 3 core concepts of Time: Past, Present, and Future. The Easiest of these I can show you is the Past Aspect… Think of it as drawing out the memory of the object you wish to cast your magic on…" She then holds a stone out in front of her, and then drops it to the ground, only, before it touches the ground, it becomes coated in a golden aura in an instant, stopping itself in time. You ask the object where it was originally… How it arrived to where it is now… Then coax it back to that original moment in time, and depending on how you ask it, it will return to that point either slowly or rapidly…" Sonia explains, "If it returns slowly, you will have more control on how it lands, but returning quickly can also be a useful tool in battle, as you can ask the object the favor of returning to its original position with all of its momentum retained, and possibly increased." The rock then floats back into Sonia's hand as she hands it to Zelda.
"The Object's Memory…" Zelda says.
"This is by far the easiest of the applications, and may very well be what you can use to go home, if you manage to figure out how to reverse yourself back to the moment you came to us." Sonia says. "Now for the Present aspect… If I may have the stone back…?" Zelda then hands the stone back, "Manipulating the Present is slightly more difficult. Unlike the Past, where you are asking the object to help you, you are instead enforcing your will upon the object… You simply ask the object to stop moving, or force your will to slow it down. You told me about the Stasis Rune that your old Sheikah Slate allowed you to perform, correct? Think of it as that, but you are using your own magic to produce the same result."
"That's actually fairly easy to visualize…" Zelda says, as Sonia drops the stone. However, as Zelda moves to catch the stone, a light flows from her hand and the stone stops in place, held together by chains… Zelda, unable to stop herself, hits the stone with all her weight behind it and, much like the Stasis Rune before the Sheikah Slate was sealed away, the stationary object absorbs all that force as it begins to flash. "Oh no!" Zelda then pulls Sonia out of the way as the stone is sent flying towards a much larger rock nearby… The Impact, however, doesn't cause the stone to crack, but, much to Zelda's surprise, it starts bouncing around in place as if it were made of rubber, and it let's out a rapid, maniacal laugh from it. "Are you alright, Queen Sonia?"
"I'm fine!" Sonia says, "That was quite the surprise! I never imagined you'd be able to visualize the Present Aspect in such a manner, let alone utilize it in such a way!" Sonia smiles proudly at Zelda.
"Thank you! But, what is that thing?" Zelda asks, pointing to the bouncing stone as it starts to return to normal.
"Oh, that's one of Mineru's Gossip Stones!" Sonia says.
"Gossip Stones?" Zelda asks.
"Yes, she created them as a means to pass information throughout the kingdom instantly. They are connected to a powerful network of spirit plants called Lightroots. Anything said near them can be picked up immediately. The best part is if you and a person you know use a particular song near the Gossip Stones, you two can communicate across vast distances!" Sonia says, "It's how I manage to communicate with Rauru when he's outside the castle for certain affairs…"
"Certain songs…" Zelda says, thinking as she walks over to the Gossip Stone and begins to close her eyes and begins to hum a song that comes to mind.
"Zelda?" A voice whispers to her, one she recognizes, Sonia's eyes widening as she hears this.
"Link!?" Zelda says, "Link is that you?"
"Zelda! Oh thank the goddesses…! I heard you humming in my ear nearby but I can't see you anywhere!" Link says, "Where are you? What's going on here!? Why were you at the Stormwind Ark!?"
"Slow down, slow down! One question at a time Link!" Zelda says, "I honestly can't believe this actually worked! Link, where are you right now?"
"At Lookout Landing! Some strange stone just erupted from the ground as I was purchasing some armor to try and follow rumors about you and I heard your voice coming from it!" Link says, "And everyone is gathering behind me as they can hear your voice as well!"
"Oh my, so this is Link?" Sonia asks, "He must care about you deeply to be such a worrywort…"
"Queen Sonia!" Zelda says.
"Zelda, who is that?" Link asks.
"This is Queen Sonia, Founding Queen of Hyrule! Link, you're not going to believe this, but I got sent back in time to the Era of Hyrule's Founding, and what you've just encountered is known as a Gossip Stone! I don't know how, but it is allowing us to communicate across time!"
"So then you're in the past!? But why were you at the Stormwind Ark? Why did you lead me there?" Link asks.
"Stormwind Ark? What are you talking about?" Zelda asks, to which Link explains everything that happened since he woke up, especially how he had met Rauru and how he had met her in the Sky Island's Temple of Time. Then he explains how he had gone to investigate rumors about her being near the Rito and described what he thought was her was wearing, but then the strangest thing happened, Ravio actually growled at her as if he were challenging a Lynel. "So what is going on, Zelda, please tell me cuz I'm grasping at straws here!"
"Link, I don't think that was me!" Zelda says, "First of all, the dress you saw that version of me wearing, I'm wearing it right now, and Hyrule is still in the height of summer from where I am! Besides, if I were to wear that in the middle of a snowstorm, even my magic wouldn't have been able to save me from the frostbite I'd suffer! Secondly, you know that Ravio is your instinctive and logical side, if he's suspecting something is wrong, you know better than anyone to listen to him. Thirdly, and finally, I would never act so coldly to you, my love, even if I were hurting, you'd be the first person I'd go to if I were!"
"That is… All true…" Link says, an obvious snarl in his voice. "So all this time I've been chasing down an imposter that has been leading me and innocent people into death traps! Damn those Yiga!"
"Yiga or not, you know me better than that… Then again, whenever you get emotional, you tend to not think things through, love." Zelda says, "Still, now you know better, and I'm currently working on solutions that might help me get back home, so please, neither you, nor our people should despair. As soon as I have a solution, either you or Purah will be the first to know, assuming she is with you!"
"Yeah, Purah is here at Lookout Landing, I'll be sure to inform her! So how do I use these things anyway?"
"Whenever Zelda is near a gossip stone, if she hums a song both you and her know, namely a Spirit Song you have used to communicate with each other, then you will be able to talk with each other freely. You can also gain a bit of local information by giving them a good hard hit. Just never, under any circumstances, place anything explosive next to a Gossip Stone, they will launch high into the air and then come crashing down with the force of a hundred bomb flowers!" That is when there is a collective "eep" from the other side of the stone.
"Noted!" Link says, his voice a bit squeaky. "Please take care of her, your highness… I miss her, and I will do anything to protect her!"
"You just make sure Hyrule is safe enough for her to return to. We'll worry about getting her home! You have my word!" Sonia says.
"Yes! Your majesty, please keep her safe until I come for her!" Link says, "I love you Zelda, please come home soon…"
"I'll be back soon, my love…" Zelda says, shedding a tear as she touches the stone, her mind showing Link doing the same, before she feels his image fade in her mind, and she instinctively knows that the connection was cut. Zelda looks to Sonia, who smiles at Zelda, placing a hand on her shoulder, with an encouraging smile. Zelda smiles back, looking back at the Gossip Stone… She is filled with… Determination!
