Mike's fight to maintain control had taken a turn for the worse and was pretty much doomed the moment William gained access to his memory files. The memories themselves were mostly enjoyable considering the most prominent ones stored in the cybernetic part of his mind were from after his resurrection, but they were extremely distracting whenever William forcibly brought them to the forefront of Mike's thoughts.
Mike would completely lose himself in the memory's contents for a few moments and it'd completely derail his current train of thought. Sure it only took a few seconds for him to shove the memory away and focus back on the task of keeping William out, but every second counted and he lost a lot of ground every time it happened. And the moment William noticed Mike starting to fight back again, he'd throw another memory at Mike.
It wasn't long before Mike was forced to flee his control center least he'd find himself cornered and captured, only taking one pad with him to act as a link between him and what was happening to the outside world. Mike had run down various corridors of his mindscape, still able to influence it enough to create secret passages only he could use and maneuver around the glitchy shadow bunnies that William had created to act as scouts for him.
Currently, Mike was hiding out in the part of his mind dedicated to keeping track of the various plot lines for his favorite soap operas. Tucked behind the corkboard that kept track of all the relationships in the Duchess Approves and safely out of sight, Mike turned on his pad and watched the feed from his physical eyes. He felt helpless as Dipper and the others confronted his puppeted body and started getting separated under William's control over the place.
Mike didn't know what William was thinking, and couldn't risk finding out without giving his own position and thoughts away, but he could feel William's emotions as they saturated his mindscape. He could feel the viscous glee coming from William as a predator ready to play with his helpless prey. It filled Mike with protective fury and Mike couldn't help but try and push back against this killer that was planning to harm his loved ones.
For a moment Mike could feel his mind self start to truly reconnect with his body, seeing through his eye and feeling his human arm move in response to his will again. But that little control was soon yanked back by William and Mike let it happen, knowing it was better to save his strength for a moment when he'd truly need it and be able to make a difference. Unfortunately, the attempt also gave his position away and Mike was forced to start running once again, ignoring whatever taunting words William was projecting into his mindscape.
He'd have to be more careful and choose his moves carefully. He couldn't risk being captured and surrendering any chance of providing any of the others an opening at a critical moment.
Roxy growled in frustration as she hit another dead end, turning around and trying down another path of the maze. That was the one downside to her upgraded eyes, while she could see far more than anyone else it was often hard for her to see what was actually right in front of her. But the uses and advantages she had because of them far outstripped the drawbacks, especially in situations like these.
When that virus controlling Mike had sent her further into the dark void, any of the others would have been hopelessly lost, wandering around in circles until that rotten rabbit was done playing with them. But because Roxy was the best at what she does and given gifts she could master, she had been able to see where the group was still and had been running her way back at top speed. She had almost made it when was suddenly started bursting up out of the ground.
Still, though, she was better off than most of the others as she at least knew roughly where everyone was and could at least head in their direction. Currently, she was trying to make it to Freddy and Gregory, her programming urging her to protect the child that was very much in danger here. She was making progress at least though, even with how often she had to double back.
Another benefit of her eyes was they kept her from being distracted by that glitch's little nightmare shadows.
The shadows looked like burnt monstrous versions of her group's predecessors, often with gapping mouths full of many sharp teeth that attempted to bite her in half every time they lunged out of the darkness. The sight of them would cause anyone to at least hesitate in terror, but she could see how they lacked any real substance and couldn't harm her. And from the way her protective charm pulsed brighter every time the illusion attacked her, she and the others were safe from any other effects that murderer was hoping these shadows would have on them.
As Roxy continued to walk quickly down the next hallway, she suddenly stopped and stiffened, letting out a warning growl. While she might not be a real wolf, her senses were more advanced than that of humans and she heard it when a second set of footsteps suddenly appeared behind her. There was only one person that could have snuck up on her in this place and her suspicion was confirmed when she whirled around and dropped into a slight crouch so she could better run or attack.
He was standing there before her, possessing the one human that truly cared about her and the others and that Roxy was honored to even hesitantly to think of as a friend.
"Get out of him you virus!" Roxy growled. While her teeth and claws might not be as big or as dangerous as Monty's she could still do damage if she wanted to and she had no problem in displaying them in a promise and threat to the monster before her.
"And what are you even going to do to stop me?" William smirked, tilting Mike's head a little as if he were looking at a misbehaving child. "Any attack you do on me will only hurt Michael as this is his body, which would go against your attempts to save him from me… There is nothing you can do to harm me."
William wasn't wrong that Roxy couldn't risk harming Mike, both because she cared about him and because her programming prevented her from purposely hurting a human. But she and her fellow glamrocks had become well-versed in finding ways to work around their programming since they'd been activated and knew how to use loopholes to her advantage.
Loopholes like the fact Mike wasn't completely human.
Roxy very much enjoyed the startled and slightly frightened look on his borrowed face as she lunged forward with her jaw open wide. He attempted to dodge, but as he wasn't expecting this attack he couldn't prevent Roxy's teeth from clamping onto Mike's animatronic arm. She missed the less protected wires in his elbow joint because he attempted to escape and she wasn't strong enough to pierce directly through Mike's metal casing, but her claws were still available.
Keeping her bite strong to hold Mike's body in place and ignoring his angry protests and demands, Roxy began forcing her fingers into the joint to try and cut the connecting wires. It wouldn't hurt Mike to do it and it would prevent him from being able to use some of Mike's abilities against Gregory and the others. And once the virus was out of Mike, the damage she attempted to do would be easily repaired.
She had barely begun to start cutting through the first wire when she felt herself freeze as a powerful restrictive energy held her entire body in a vice-like grip. Her jaws were forcibly pried open and he yanked Mike's arm free. The energy then threw her against one of the walls, hard enough that she heard some of her casing cracks. She was released by the energy as soon as she made contact with the wall and she didn't have enough time to catch herself, so ended up in a heap on the floor.
Luckily it seemed like all her damage was superficial and Roxy easily rose back to her feet.
"You're more clever than I gave you credit for…" William snarled, Mike's eyes blazing with his fury. "But you are still in my domain!"
Suddenly it seemed like the floor turned to quicksand underneath Roxy's feet and any attempt she made to yank her feet free only made her sink faster.
"I hope you enjoy the little area and playmate I've prepared for you," William smirked cruelly, looking down at Roxy as she sunk up to her chest. "I know how much you've been racing after all and long for someone to give you a 'real' challenge."
Roxy didn't have time to question what Faz William was talking about before her head sunk into the floor completely and into complete darkness.
She was only in the darkness for a moment though before she suddenly found herself sitting in what seemed like the driver's seat of a race car. She glanced at the wheel and gauges in front of her in confusion before glancing out the windshield. It looked like she was on the starting line of some sort of floating multicolored racetrack in a neon-themed city and there was another car next to her. The driver of the other car was a nightmare shadow version of herself and the shadow snarled at Roxy in a challenge, grinning wider than should be possible and showing its numerous sharp teeth.
A sudden chime over her head brought Roxy's attention to what seemed like a countdown light. Realizing what was about to happen, Roxy placed her hands on the steering wheel, unable to help but feel a rush of excitement at the thought of being able to race again. The countdown completed and Roxy slammed her foot on the gas, sending the car screeching forward while her shadow counterpart did the same.
As Roxy focused on speeding around the first turn, she was startled as her car suddenly jolted from the other car slamming into the side of it. Roxy growled in anger, swerving to avoid being hit again, and berated herself for not thinking about that glitch would make the other driver crazy. She yelped in shock and fear as she noticed that by avoiding the shadow's attack she was skidding right towards the edge of the road. Roxy slammed her foot on the break and swerved sharply away, barely keeping her car from careening off into the abyss.
As Roxy stabilized her car and started chasing after her counterpart down the track again, she got a good look at the road in front of her and realized that not only was the path full of lots of tight sharp turns, but there seemed to be all sorts of deadly traps and dangerous obstacles scattered throughout it as well.
This was a race where even the smallest mistake could destroy her instantly.
"Oh this is a challenge alright," Roxy grinned viscously, skidding around the tight turn as fast as she dared and slowly getting closer to her counterpart. "But the raceway was named after me for a reason and I'm willing to prove why I'm the best."
Pressing harder on the pedal, Roxy raced after her counterpart, determined to not only survive this race but win it too.
William sneered at the spot where Roxy disappeared before looking away to inspect Mike's arm, confident that his little game would keep the wolf busy for a while. The damage was negligible, just a few scratches, but he hated the fact that that stupid machine had been able to do that much at all. He'd have to be a bit more careful with the others and not underestimate them so they can't take him by surprise like that again.
Speaking of the others he briefly thought about going after that bear and brat next, especially as he had something truly special in mind for them, but decided against it. He wanted to let them wander a little while longer, thinking they were surviving his maze before he swoops in and shatters that illusion. In the meantime, he'd take care of the other two animatronics.
And he didn't care which one he came across first.
