Chapter 11: Battle of Truths
A/N: Hey Guys! Season 1 Deku is here! While there's definitely a story reason for why Izuku's season 1 costume is being used I also really like the idea of showing off how inexperienced he really is. Anyway, back to the story!
Far from the danger of the attack on the USJ, everyone on the outside remained clueless to the life threatening event. Including the true target of the attack, All Might...
The slim and tired man entered his office in secret, avoiding the sights of the students and other teachers as he silently shut the door behind him. He sighed to himself upon entering, feeling like he got away with something that he really shouldn't have
"I'm glad I'm able to get here late today, really lets me put in more heroing hours." He thought, wiping his brow as he turned over his rolling chair
But to his shock he was met with the tiny figure of a humanoid creature, sitting comfortably in his chair with a tea cup in his hand
"Uh- Principal Nezu! Good morning!" Yagi said, bowing in respect
"Actually it's evening now, Mr. Yagi." Said the hybrid creature, still sitting in the chair and taking a sip of his tea
"Crap I forgot the time."
"Mr. Yagi," Nezu continued, "are you aware that All Might was seen all throughout the city all morning? Last I checked he was saving a small family from a hostage situation."
"How did you-" Toshinori began but was cut off as soon as Nezu pulled out his phone, revealing a website called "All Might Finder.", one of many fan-made websites that document every sighting of the number one hero
"It's not hard to know what the Number One Hero All Might is doing."
Feeling as though he was caught in a lie Toshinori could only lower his head in response, akin to a child being scolded by their parents. In response the animal hybrid sighed to himself
"I'm grateful for your service and effort Toshi but I can only wonder where your priorities lie." He questioned
"They lie with both the world and my students." Yagi responded, raising his head
"And I'm glad you value the two so highly, but you shouldn't have to sacrifice yourself for both." The small creature lectured. "You've spent lots of precious time saving the city, even after getting little sleep from the night prior. Were you even planning on reviewing your teacher's schedule while your students were out?"
"Y-Yes..."
"Honestly Toshi its hard to worry about your safety when you strain yourself so much. You take no time for yourself and only worry about your duties as a teacher and a hero."
"Then what do you suggest I do?" The man wondered, watching as Nezu jumped from his seat and walked towards the couch stationed against the wall
"Lay there." He said, and soon the thin man did as he was told
Once the man took his spot a warm blanket was thrown over him, and immediately afterwards the small principal set a stool next to him, looking after the teacher
"Now sleep."
"What?"
"Now that you have time to yourself you must take a moment to rest. Regaining your strength and focus is a requirement for a man of your caliber."
Reluctantly the man closed his eyes and relaxed his muscles, feeling his body give in completely to the comfort of the couch and the warmth of the blanket. Almost immediately Toshinori found himself unable to move as his body prevented him from doing so, gluing him in the couch
"I'm worried if the class and Mirio are doing okay."
"Try not to think about it." His friend advised. "You've left the class in very capable hands, and your pupil with very capable students."
Fear and panic took hold of the small band of students as they faced the shadow villain who blocked the exit and crippled their teacher before their very eyes. These four students, Uraraka, Jiro, Ashido and Iida, faced their opponent with racing hearts and irrational minds
"Who'll be the first to attack?" Asked the villain, patiently waiting for a reaction
"Do we have a plan?" Mina whispered to her friends
"I don't know, maybe if we give Iida an opening then he can warn the other teachers." Kyoka responded, but the how was still up in the air
"But what of the other students and teachers?" Iida responded. "As Vice President of the class I can't abandon you all in times of stress!"
"If you don't warn the other teachers then there's no way we're getting out of here!" Jiro proclaimed, stepping forward with a fighting stance
"Yeah, if you don't get help then there's no telling what might happen to the others." Mina agreed, mimicking her friend by stepping forward as well
Seeing her two friends face the threat head on, Ochako was amazed by their ability to seem calm under stress. And with everything that was on the line, she couldn't afford to back down
Taking a deep breath and puffing out her chest, Ochako followed in the example of her friends, staring down the cloud of dark smoke with as much bravery as she could muster
"I'll help distract him Iida!" She declared, surprising the boy with her gesture. "We have to help everyone by getting help!"
For a moment there was a tense silence as the Vice President of 1-A looked to his fellow students with admiration
"Girls... I'll do my part!" He declared as well
"I'm touched that you four can band together." the ball of shadow complimented. "But you've run my patience thin."
Suddenly the cloud of blackness shot out a few streams of darkness at the students, forcing them to avoid the attacks by jumped out of the way. Quickly a few more attacks came after them, keeping all four of them on their toes as they jumped and rolled around in place
But the moment the onslaught stopped Iida rolled to his feet and raced through his opening with fire shooting from the mufflers in his calves. In order to prevent him from running any further Kurogiri attempted to place portals in front of him, only for Iida to sidestep them as he ran, but not without losing his speed and balance from time to time
"Enough of this!" The man yelled as a large portal appeared a ways in front of him, forcing him to skid to a stop as the portal flew after him
Yet before the portal could envelope him completely a sound wave blasted the cloud of living smoke that hovered in the air, breaking the villain's concentration
"We won't let you!" Jiro yelled, who plugged her ear cable into the speaker of her boot to create the attack
Seeing his opening, Iida was able to run around the faltering portal as Mina used her quirk to throw bits of acid after the villain
Yet as the cloud struggled to remain composed Ochako could peer through the darkness and spot a shining metal object inside, pouring out more inky blackness while the rest was blown away
"Does he have a body under all of that?" She wondered as she continued to observe, feeling useless as the other two handled the villain effortlessly
But to her surprise a portal appeared just in front of the villain to intercept the string of attacks, nullifying the blast of sound and the following globs of acid. Soon after that another portal appeared in front of the two girls, redirecting the large sound wave and blasting them away while the acid fortunately missed them. Now with the two girls out of the way the villainous cloud turned to see Iida at the front doors
"Looks like it was never enough." He sighed, creating a thick cloud of mist that surrounded the teen as he attempted to force the large metal doors open but with little progress
But catching him off guard was the feeling of a petite body floating into the range of his cloud and then sticking to the metal collar within
"What the-?"
"If you have a body, then there's a way to stop you!!" Said Ochako, who placed her hands on the metal collar to activate her quirk
Now feeling lighter than normal the villain was swung in the air by the brunette long enough to break his concentration on the portal he made, severing it. Eventually the girl threw the villain away, sending him spinning like a frisbee in the air as the cloud of his being struggled to catch up to the metal collar
"Mina! Jiro! Now!" She proclaimed as the body of the villain reformed back into the vague outline of a person with a bartender's clothes
Quickly the two girls turned to face the villain and attack with all their might, launching the same stunning attacks that disoriented the man as well as melted his clothes to reveal more darkness within
Again the villain created a portal to absorb and redirect the attacks, but this time the girls were prepared as they dodged their own attacks, jumping out of the way in the nick of time
"Cleaver children. You've managed to prevent me from taking your ally." He complimented once again, staring at the opened doors that poured in a bright sunlight
"It's over! The teachers will be here any minute now!" Ochako proclaimed as she ran to stand beside her two classmates, all three facing the villain bravely
"On the contrary, you played right into our hands..." The man warned as his clothes and metal collar quickly disappeared from sight, followed by the rest of the cloud that made him up
Seeing the villain disappear from sight the three girls each breathed a sigh of relief, their hearts still beating quickly and the fear never truly leaving. As the three took a moment to themselves Ochako could only look back at the open doors and the freedom that they revealed
"Played into their hands?"
Well within the USJ a violent battle between two fated teenagers began. Izuku held off his former friend and longtime bully Katsuki, the latter of which had no clue who he was fighting
Although Izuku was the first to be caught off guard he was able to recover quickly, narrowly avoiding the brunt of the blast but unable to recover in time to block the incoming boot to the chest. As the boy was flung further into the destroyed room he was able to jump to his feet and watch as the menacing 'hero' walked slowly towards him from the broken window
"I don't know who you are or why you're here but you're gonna pay for trying to ambush us!" The boy declared, itching for a battle as he rushed forward, running at full speed
Thinking quickly Izuku weaved out the way of a small string of basic punches before being taken off guard by a rocket powered fist, slamming into his hastily raised guard. Quickly the blonde took advantage of the moment as he jumped back and leaped into the air, boosting himself with his quirk, before rocketing after Izuku using his boot as the point of his attack
However, Izuku countered by grabbing onto the heels of the shoes and avoiding the attack, stepping to the side and using the momentum to swing Bakugo at a wall. In seconds the blonde teen was sent flying towards the concrete wall and slammed into it with the full force of his impulse
"I can't believe it, I just hurt Kacchan!" Izuku thought, frozen as he watched the boy stand to his feet slowly. He didn't really expect to get as far as he did, but in doing so he felt an old sense of fear grip his heart yet again
"You bastard, you're tougher than I thought." Bakugo complained as he caressed his injured back, only to look forward with a large smirk on his face. "I'd love to crush you!"
Now enraged the boy shot after Izuku using his quirk, reaching with one hand in an attempt to grab him. Quickly the boy in the bright green suit side stepped, but before Bakugo could shoot past his enemy he used an explosion from his hand to halt his momentum, suspending him in the air and giving him the chance to swing his foot at Izuku's face
Using his uncanny reaction speed Izuku raised his hand to barely block the strike, and was surprised as Bakugo propelled himself further into the air and brought down his fist from higher in the air. Quickly Izuku blocked the attack with a raised crossed guard but unexpectedly Bakugo held onto his arms and brought his knee to Midoriya's exposed chest. The attack not only hurt but it gave Bakugo the opportunity to roll backward and throw his opponent over him, sending Midoriya tumbling away
Quicklu Izuku landed on his knees but was struck in the chest by Katsuki's rocket propelled shoulder tackle in relentless pursuit. The teen was thrown into the wall where he was chased yet again as Bakugo attempted another rocket powered kick
With his back against the wall Izuku side stepped the incoming boot and raised his arm to block a sizable explosion that came after him. But seeing his opportunity he used his arm to parry the large gauntlet aimed at his face and his second to land a powerful uppercut to the chin, followed by a fist that rocked the boy's face
Reeling from the two attacks Bakugo stepped back as he placed a hand on his bleeding lip. Somehow those two punches hurt a hell of a lot more than normal attacks. Of course he's felt the full force of a punch before but these were not it, instead they were like solid rock hands that slammed into his face instead of bone
"He's strong. Maybe he has a strength enhancing quirk." He assessed as he stared at his assailant
He took a moment to observe his enemy more thoroughly, taking note of what he wore and why he wore it. He had a mask that likely functioned as a gas mask too, and he had a pouch that held who knows what inside. But most importantly were the two knives that were stored at his sides, unused
"I got too cocky and thought he didn't know what he was doing. Got to take this guy seriously." He thought as he continued to stare at the mint green villain before him
But interrupting their fight were a group of footsteps that came their way, and from the doorway of the room came the other students that came with Bakugo, Kirishima, Sero and Kaminari
"Hey Bakugo we've got to stick together!" Said the one with red hair as they all realized he was fighting what looked like a professional villain
"If we band together we can take him down and go our way." Suggested to boy with black hair
"Crap, if they team up I'm sure I'll lose!!" Izuku panicked. He raised his arms in defense, trying not to let his fear expose him
"As if. This one's mine!" Bakugo declared as he stared at his opponent with a vicious glare
Immediately after making his declaration he raised his right hand and began shooting a small storm of pellets, each orange in color and hitting Izuku with the force of a BB gun. He raised his arms to guard his face but after he did so the firing stopped. Looking past his arms he witnessed Bakugo as he propelled after him yet again, rocket tackling the teen. Without warning the two were launched through the broken window and out into the open where Bakugo held onto Izuku's leg with one arm and used the other to shoot them further into the air
As Izuku flailed helplessly in the air he suddenly felt himself falling with his back facing the ground while Katsuki bear hugged him, using him as a means to land
"He's trying to drop me from the sky!!"
Thinking of a quick solution Midoriya punched Bakugo at the side of his stomach of his stomach, forcibly loosening his grip as he kneed him in the chest. Now that Katsuki was unfocused Izuku shifted in the air and brought the blonde below himself, reversing the order as they fell towards the street
Left with no choice Bakugo used a free hand to create an explosion that sent the both of them flying horizontally, and luckily the two were now tumbling across the roof of a building, rolling away from each other. Eventually the two were able to stand back up again whereas Bakugo tried launching himself one more time
Watching the familiar attack the boy instinctively grabbed the fist just as it was about to strike him and twisted his body backwards. Now holding onto the arm Izuku used the force of his arms, the movement of his body and that of Katsuki's to slam him into the ground face up
With a yell of pain Bakugo looked up to see a fist flying at his face but quickly he was able to avoid it by a hair and returned the favor by placing a hand onto Midoriya's chest. Immediately afterwards he created an explosion so powerful the mint clad villain was sent flying into the air before landing on his back a few feet away
"Crap, he's smart enough to know how to turn the fight around. Things might change soon." Izuku thought as he clutched his stomach while standing to his feet
"Damnit he's too tricky to deal with close up. I'll have to go for long range instead." Bakugo thought to himself as he slowly stood to his feet
It was hard to say how evenly matched the two boys were, but neither of the two have yet to take the fight truly seriously as they stood at a stalemate yet again
"Alright that's enough playing around then. I'll take you down here and now!" Bakugo yelled with rage and frustration, sparks dancing around his hands
"I should take this seriously too. I need to use everything I have if I want to win this." Izuku thought as his hand felt his combat knives
For the moment he was hesitant to use the knives. Unlike with Tamaki the other day Kacchan had no physical defenses against a knife, and a good stab from the blades could leave him gravely injured if Izuku wasn't careful with them. He didn't want to kill Kacchan if he didn't need to, if anything he was reluctant to even stand against him as old traumas began resurfacing in his mind
But as Izuku looked at the enraged Kacchan he understood that the fight was getting serious now. He didn't know if he was capable of killing Kacchan but he knew that he could definitely kill him if given the chance, and knowing just the guy he was he'd likely find a way now that things have ramped up
"If I don't use everything I have now then Kacchan might knock me out or worse. Even if there's a chance I might seriously hurt him I have to take things seriously."
Unsheathing both blades made Izuku's mind think back on all that led to this moment. His dreams to be a hero were long behind him but the moment he pulled the blades he could feel all prior hope vanish from his heart. Pulling the knifes and using them in a fight against his ex-friend was the final straw that fully removed any of those childlike aspirations. His intent was not to kill but in using such deadly weapons he lost any and all hopes of becoming that noble hero he always wanted to be
But as his heart was now empty of his former dreams it was instead filled with a new sense of realization. Without the help of Kurogiri and his Sensei he would not be standing here today, fighting his longtime bully head on in the name of a better future. But even more than that came a new sense of hope that coursed through his body. Now having been thrust so deep down the path of villainy he could see his future shape before him. Toga, Dabi, himself and many others outside of the system of heroes would get the chance to face those that seek to hurt them as he does now
Sure he didn't want to kill the boy but he needed to face him with all he had, for his future and the future of others rested on his actions
"I can't lose. Not here, not now." Izuku thought as he readied his practiced stance, holding one knife right-side up and the other backwards
"Die! AP Shot!" He yelled as he pointed his right hand forward and used his left to cup the palm and make a sort of funnel
Knowing better than to stand still Izuku rolled to the side as he avoided an armor piercing beam from Bakugo. Quickly he was forced to run around in circles as he carefully avoided each blast, sometimes almost too narrowly, a hot flame grazing him and leaving a sting
Eventually Izuku was forced to stop the attacks before he tired himself out, which meant that he was forced to throw one of his knives towards Bakugo's stomach in hopes that it distracts him, or at worst injuries him
Seeing the shiny metal blade thrown straight at him Bakugo brought his arm to guard him and used the thick metal gauntlet as his shield. As expected the knife was useless now that it was blocked but surprisingly it stuck onto a gap in the large grenade-shaped gauntlet, sticking like a board. But that was the only opening Izuku needed, rushing after the off guard Katsuki, grabbing onto the knife and holding onto it like a handle to trap his ex-friend's left arm
Quickly Izuku's right arm came down to Bakugo's unprotected face, but using another explosion Bakugo's captured arm swung outwards, shoving Izuku away, releasing the knife and leaving him open for another punch. But Izuku was able to grab hold of Bakugo by the wrist, holding his right arm in place as his left came in for another swing. Yet like the right arm the left was also held down, keeping him locked in place but dropping the knife in the process while the second was sheathed again
However, this restraint didn't last long as Bakugo placed both hands together and used an explosion to swing his conjoined fists into Izuku's chin, freeing him from the hold and allowing him to bring his knee into Midoriya's gut and using a gauntlet to slam into his lowered head, causing the teen to stumble backwards
But in a more surprising maneuver Izuku was stunned as Bakugo ran forward and stuck his hand out in front of him, triggering an explosion that confused Midoriya. The smokescreen left behind blinded him as he soon felt another explosion hit his back, and then another just above his head. In no time Bakugo floated around the teen and triggered explosions all around him, forcing him to ball up with his arms covering his face
But eventually a few well placed AP Shots on the ground created a fault on the roof of the building large enough that the teen in green fell through it, landing on his back and struggling to recover
Before Izuku knew it he heard metal clinking followed by the sound of metal balls landing beside him. Turing to face the disturbance he was surprised to see a few grenades sitting just in front of his face and with his quick reactions Izuku leaped onto his feet and jumped away from the grenades just in time for them to explode behind him, launching him towards the nearby wall
"Damnit I thought I had it!" Bakugo raged as he looked down to see the large hole on the ground, with the villain laying many feet next to it
Using his powers to drop down into the building he wasted no time in trying to get his advantage again, using AP Shots against the recovering boy but watching as he jumped back onto his feet like nothing and dodge the attacks
"That's it, I'm killing you here and now!!" He declared finally as he placed a hand on the pin of his gauntlet arm
Hearing those words and watching as Bakugo pointed the end of his gauntlet at Izuku he knew that he was in grave danger as he used all the might of his legs to leap far away from where he was standing, rolling away from the attack. But the attack that he avoided had a devastating range as the moment the pin was released a flurry of destructive explosions were released from the point of the gauntlet, sending a deadly tidal wave of explosions that resonated with several booms. The attack ripped straight through the wall that was once behind Izuku and it continued onwards, out of their sight
Huffing tiredly Izuku looked back to see the ruins of the wall and felt a wave of relief wash over him as he had avoided an attack that could've easily killed him. But immediately he looked back to see Bakugo stare hatefully at him
"If that one won't do it then this one will!"
Quickly the blonde pointed his other gauntlet at Izuku and before anything could happen the villain sprinted after Bakugo at full speed and threw his stored knife at his hand. But it was not able to stop him as the boy pulled the pin, making the knife impale itself into Bakugo's left shoulder
Whilst the teen screamed in pain Midoriya rushed at near inhuman speeds and was able to use both of his arms to push the attack upwards, sending the wave of death to eat through a portion of the roof instead, hearing its roar tear through their ears. Even though the attack was redirected Midoriya could feel the left side of his face get burning hot
Immediately Izuku took advantage of the surprised Bakugo, kicking him behind the knee and punching him in the face, causing him to nearly fall over as he stumbled backwards. And yet Izuku rushed again, intent on ending the fight
Suddenly Bakugo whipped around using an explosion, swinging his left hand around to strike Izuku only for him to duck just in time. With his other arm Katsuki tried to punch him, only for his fist to be blocked, allowing Izuku to uppercut his jaw with enough force to lift him off his feet
"Smash!!!" The boy yelled as he jammed his other fist into Bakugo's exposed gut, using his arm to forcibly and painfully slam the teen's back into the floor
"FUCK!!!" Bakugo yelled in pain, unable to get up after so many hits to the back. He lifted his hand up in an attempt to attack, only to be stopped by the shock of his life
A gloved fist struck his face with enough force to finally knock him out, leaving the blonde's head to roll back in defeat
For a moment the winner took a second to breathe, settling his nerves and taking in the victory. He righted himself as he kneeled over the unconscious body of his opponent, who was fully asleep before him. Upon seeing the resting face of Katsuki Bakugo, the boy felt a wave of relief wash over him like a warmth greater than that of his explosions. For the first time ever Izuku had finally beaten his old bully, and for the first time he felt a sense of power overwhelm him, like his greatest fear was finally put to rest
But the celebration didn't last long as a group of footsteps could be heard in the distance yet again
"Bakugo! You in here!?" A voice came from not too far away
Panicking Izuku yanked out the knife that was stuck to the blonde's shoulder and even found the second knife he was missing before he dove into the large hole that led to the lower floor. Breaking his fall by rolling he managed to jump to his feet and out the window where he ran across the open street of the fake city
Hastily he ran into an alleyway between the buildings where he unintentionally collapsed, falling on his face and scraping it. All at once his injuries began flaring up like light bulbs, the stings around his body from the pellets, the sides of his face from the punches and even the center of his chest. Suddenly the adrenaline had passed, leaving him with absolutely o energy to continue
Forcing himself to his knees Izuku noted the extent of the damage that he was dealt, all seen throughout his charred suit. The suit was smoldered in several places with small holes all across his chest and arms, and even the center of his chest displayed a large hole with soot stained skin underneath. But he then got to his face and touched it, feeling it to check for damages. Although he couldn't notice any cracks on his gas mask he could feel that the left side of his green mask was now gone, and likely was now showing part of his face
"Hopefully no one can tell who I am with just that."
But his body refused to cooperate as though his injuries sapped away at his strength. His familiar headache returned in full force as he clutched the top of his head in pain. A wave of dizziness threatened to make him throw up, his heart beat in strange patterns and he could barely sense the tips of his cold fingers
"What's going on? It's like I've lost all my strength!" Izuku panicked as it took every fiber of his being not to pass out from the torture he was enduring
Eventually the peak of the pain passed, leaving the boy tired and without energy. He could barely stand yet he did it anyway, refusing to fall in such a place
"My body can't handle my injuries. But why? My quirk lets me ignore stuff like this doesn't it?" He thought, searching for an answer
But when he came to the truth of the matter his blood ran cold, almost literally even
All of these symptoms were the symptoms of Anemia
"I've lost too much blood. And I've been pushing myself too hard." He thought, looking back at the struggle he endured prior to his battle here
Although his quirk allowed his body to endure hardship, his body was also at the brink of collapse due to his efforts in helping Toga. Bleeding him every day for the past weeks without any end to it, he was lucky that his body didn't give at the first punch he received
"Helping Toga...nearly killed me?!" He realized, leaning against the wall and grabbing a painkiller from his pouch
If it weren't for his body being limited by the lack of iron in his blood then he likely would've done much better against Bakugo, and he surely wouldn't be close to dying in an alleyway about now. His quirk could only take him so far as he took a full minute to rest and get his bearings
However, as Izuku laid with his back against the wall a familiar darkness appeared before him, revealing Kurogiri with tattered clothes
"Did you win?" He asked, and in response the teen nodded his head. "Good to hear. Master will be very pleased with the result."
But in response came a question. "You left me...to fight Kacchan...on purpose?" The boy huffed out his response
"Indeed. It was master's wish to have you face your old bully. I hope you don't hold it against me." He said, but the boy shook his head
"No, that's alright. In fact I wanted to thank you...for all the support you've given me." Izuku stated, almost surprising the man in darkness
"You're very welcome."
"How's the rest of the mission going?"
"Poorly." Kurogiri sighed. "All Might was not seen with the other students, and instead are two teachers and a third year student."
"All Might wasn't here?"
"A student with a speed enhancing quirk also escaped the complex and is sending reinforcements." He continued. "It's likely that All Might will be the first to respond but once the other teachers arrive we must make our exit regardless."
Shaking his head the man could only look down in the struggling boy as he did his best to stand, but with little results. "Perhaps you'd like a rest young Midoriya? Your part of the mission is complete."
"No...I need to help as much as I can." Midoriya declared
"I see. Your dedication is admirable." Kurogiri applauded. "Then let's get you patched up."
Elsewhere in the USJ a secondary Nomu attacked a single student of the class on the side of a mountain. As the prodigy student Shoto Todoroki used his ice powers to slide around the threat he was relentlessly pursued as the monster smashed ice glaciers like glass
The teenager slid around the trail using slick ice, zooming around the field to avoid attacks. He attempted to freeze the monster in place but to no avail as the ice struggled to stick and restrain him. Eventually the white creature caught the boy off guard, clotheslining him with it's thick arm sending him flying at a tree. With a thud Todoroki fell to his feet where he was then kicked in the stomach, breaking the ice that rested on the left side of his body
The long and freakish arm of the monster then held onto the back of the boy's head where it then threw him at another tree, slamming his back onto the thick wood. Quickly he placed a hand on the ground and created a thick ice wall in front of him, but soon the monster rushed after him. Effortlessly the creature crashed through the wall and slammed it's fist in Shoto's stomach, shoving him against the tree yet again
Tired and worn down Shoto stared hatefully at the pale skinned creature as fire began to dance from his left arm. He warned himself that he shouldn't stoop so low, but a few broken bones later and he found himself running out of options
But unexpectedly a group of fists fell from higher up the mountain, slamming into the monster with enough impact that it lost its balance. Quickly Mezo Shoji sprung into action, grabbing onto the thing's head with all six fists and summersaulting of it like a spring board, forcing it back a few feet as a green blur delivered a kick to its face, knocking it back a little further
Finally standing in defensive positions before Shoto were Shoji and Asui, facing down the enemy with determined faces
"Are you alright Todoroki?"
"You don't look so good."
In response to both of their concerns Shoto slowly stood back up, clutching his broken rib as he looked to see the Nomu that attacked him
"I'm well enough, but where are Mineta and Yaorozu." He questioned, readying for another round of fighting
"They're right behind us preparing for an attack. We're here to stall as best we can."
Suddenly the creature shrieked at the sky before charging angrily at the trio that stood against it. Immediately the three went into action, avoiding the rush and going in for a few well placed attacks. By freezing the floor it lost its balance, allowing Shoji to avoid its charge and land a solid blow to the chest as it passed, running straight into a tree. Taking the opportunity Asui used her tongue to latch onto the creature's leg in an attempt to trip it
But by sheer force and weight the monster refused to fall down, opting to uproot the thin tree from the ground and swing it around like a bat. Luckily all three students were able to avoid the wide swing by moving out of the way, flinging the tree into the distance. But as soon as the tree slipped out of the monster's hands it decided to charge after Shoji as to challenge him
Quickly the largest of the three reacted by rushing forward and meeting it with a clash of force. The two tall opponents tackled one another, but whereas Shoji was barely holding it together, the villain remained freakishly calm as it slowly overpowered the boy
"I can't hold him!" He declared, forcing the other two into action
As Todoroki attempted to freeze the monster in place Asui jumped several feet high into the air before falling to launch a powerful kick to the monster's head, then jumping back from the impact and using her tongue to latch on and hit it again. But it was unfazed by all attacks as it struggled against Shoji
"My kicks aren't hurting it, ribbit."
"And my ice isn't fazing it."
Just as the two attacks passed the bio-monster finally overpowered the teenager, pushing him off balance and giving it the chance to grab him by the head and throw the tall boy at the other boy. Afterwards it turned to the lone girl as it threw a punch, only to miss as she jumped out of the way. But quickly it rushed forward as she was still suspended in the air, bracing for impact
"No!!" Yelled an unexpected figure that flew towards the girl and tackled her out of the way, causing the incoming fist to hit only air
Tumbling to the floor were both Asui and Mineta, who managed to avoid the brute's attack. As they recovered from the floor Tsuyu was almost surprised to see the short teen
"Aren't you supposed to be helping Yaoyorozu?" She asked
"I can't stand aside knowing that a super pretty girl is in danger!" He proclaimed proudly. "So long as I'm here that monster's not laying a finger on you!"
"Thanks? Ribbit."
"Hey Mineta," shouted Shoji from a distance, "use your quirk to keep it in place!"
"Right!" He replied, running after the unstable creature with two purple balls in each hand
In response to this challenge the white monster shrieked as it prepared for a ground pound
"Plus Ultra!" He yelled, his heart pounding as he ran after the monster
Before it could throw a punch Mineta avoided the attack and slid under the monster, sticking a ball on the ground and on the heel of the creature as he passed. In the end the fist wrecked the ground but was unable to remove it's fist from the rock, having punched the adhesive ball directly
Now with the opening she needed Yaorozu revealed herself from her hiding place, activating a catapult that launched a group of Mineta's purple balls at the Nomu, all sticking onto the creature's back
"Knock him down!" She ordered, and immediately the others went into action
Hastily making a small chain of sticky balls Mineta latched the end of it onto the monster's back and used all of his strength to pull, which did little to nothing. Fortunately, Shoto rushed in and used his ice power to create a small stump of ice that slammed into the monster's exposed face, jerking it backwards with enough force to unstick it's hand. Following this was Shoji who tangled three of his fists into one thick arm and delivered a devastating uppercut that left the Nomu looking at the sky. Lastly was Asui, who launched herself high into the sky and yet again latched herself onto the creature to deliver a powerful kick to the face, fully knocking it on its back
Once the creature finally fell it was unable to move as the large amount of sticky balls kept it glued to the floor. But the team effort was all to allow Yaorozu the final blow, revealing her small group of four canons at her side. Pulling a rope each canon fired an explosive payload that all hit square on the Nomu's chest, enveloping it in smoke and dust. As it settled the nearly unconscious creature rode the line between fully awake and on the verge of passing out, yet the fact that it wasn't dead was more than scary
"Our plan worked, it's down for now but we have to get moving." The leader stated as she slid from her hill and met up with the others, primarily Todoroki
"You didn't have to save me, I went ahead and gave you all the chance to escape." Todoroki stated, but was met with stiff opposition
"But we can't abandon you either." She stated with clear authority in her voice. "If we weren't here to help you then that thing could've killed you Todoroki."
"I didn't need your-" He began to say when the unbearable pain in his chest and stomach flared up like fire in his body
"You're hurt, that thing must've broken a few bones." Asui pointed out
"It's just a few ribs. I can handle it." He stated, only to sink to his knees as the pain flared up again
"Face it Todoroki, we can't leave you or anyone on their own, I won't allow it. Shoji, if you could please." Ordered Yaoyorozu as Shoji picked up the injured student and carried him with all his arms
"I'll just slow you down." Todoroki warned, but was swiftly ignored
"Shoji, any signs of the others."
"I can hear them." He stated. "Most of them are fighting, except for Uraraka and the others who were left at the entrance."
"Then that means they escaped, otherwise they'd still be here." Yaorozu half stated and half hoped before moving on. "We need to find an exit quickly. Asui can you scout ahead and search for one."
"Probably, ribbit." She said before hopping into action, moving ahead of the group
"Then we'll follow her. Mineta, be on the look out alright."
"Yes ma'am!" The boy stated, standing up straight and tall before turning in every direction for any sign of a villain
"If we're lucky then we won't encounter anyone other than the people we found here." Momo hoped as the group moved on, with Todoroki helplessly laying in Shoji's arms
Finally, several minutes after Iida's escape both Aizawa and Mirio made their final stand against the ultimate foe. After having defeated a large number of weak thugs and criminals all that remained was the All Might killer itself
Well into the battle between heroes and manufactured evil things weren't looking too good for the teacher and student, both getting more and more tired as they did their best to avoid the attacks of the powerful creature. With a swing of its arm Aizawa was forced to duck under the massive limb and jump out of its range, allowing Mirio to appear from the floor yet again and uppercut the creature's jaw
But the blow did nothing to affect the monster, unresponsive as it reeled its arm back to strike Mirio. Fortunately the boy was able to phase through the attack, but the instance after the attack failed it charged after the teacher
"Does it know that it can't do anything to me already?" He wondered as he chased after it
Avoiding a slow string of wind generating punches the underground hero continued to create distance as he vaulted onto the Nomu's head when given the opportunity and jumped away. Yet tricky as the monster was it was also quite intelligent as it managed to turn and grab the man's leg, gripping it like it was a twig and slamming him into the concrete
With a scream of pain the teacher was helpless as the monster attempted to grab his arms from behind, only for Mirio to intercept this by getting in its way, throwing a string of useless attacks that only served to get the monster's attention
In the exact instance that the freak hesitated Mirio took the opportunity to whip around and grab the hero before rolling out of harm's way, saving them both from any incoming attack
"Are you okay Mr. Aizawa?!" Mirio questioned as they righted themselves, still holding onto his
"Yeah...but I'm having trouble standing right now." He confessed while wheezing for air
Hopelessly the two stared at the unmoving being that stood before them, watching as it stared back with lifeless eyes. Even if it moved and breathed like anyone else, it was clear that the monster was a mindless drone that lived to serve. And yet the way it stared back with no expression or emotion, it sent chills down Togata's spine
"This is bad, my attacks aren't doing anything to it." He panicked while still holding the injured teacher. "Even if it can't hurt me I sure can't hurt it, and now with Mr. Aizawa having trouble fighting any longer..."
"How long are we gonna wait for All Might to get here?" Said the boy with white hair in the distance. "I guess the number one hero really left you two to die, along with those kids too."
"As if!" Retaliated Mirio. "All Might would never abandon us! Any minute he'll be here and save us!"
"Why? Why are you so sure? What's so special about that man that makes you so certain?"
With little hesitation the boy yelled out his answer, doing his best to defy the villains in the face of danger. "Because All Might is the best hero of them all, and even if he's absent, I know that he'll never truly be gone! Because I'm believe, with all my heart, that he'll be here to save us from you villains!"
"And that's why he must die." He replied instantly, growling at the student hero
"But that makes it nonetheless true! Because I am here!!" Said a new voice from behind Mirio
Turning around to see the new arrival Mirio was shocked to see All Might himself standing before him in all his glory, staring at the monster that was meant to kill him. Even though he was kissing his costume, instead wearing a white tank top with yellow dress pants, his presence was still so powerful that all the fear the boy felt evaporated
"So you're finally here! I'm surprised, I thought I'd have to kill a few people to get your attention." The only villain around said, but to his anger the legendary hero only laughed at him
"That means you haven't yet aye? Then I've arrived just in time." He said as he approached the two exhausted heroes
"All Might, how'd you get here?"
"Young Iida ran to the school and warned me of the danger. In a few minutes the other teachers will arrive to clean this up." He explained. "And Mirio, you did well. I couldn't have any less of you."
But now, facing the buff drone head on, the man cracked his knuckles in preparation for whats to come
"I hear you're supposed to kill me huh? Then let's see you try!"
Quickly All Might rushed after the Nomu with a held back fist, the monster mimicking his movements. Bringing their fists into contact produced a violent gust of wind that shook the very air around them. Quickly the two began their intense fight, trading blows with each other and seemingly matching the speed and intensity of the attacks
Amazed by the display before him Mirio was stunned by the extent of the battle, at least until he brought himself to his senses. Setting down the wounded teacher beside him there was only one thing left for him to do
"Careful Mirio, you don't know what he can do." Aizawa suggested, kneeling on one leg and clutching his stomach in pain
"Actually I think I've got an idea..." He said before suddenly falling through the floor
The white haired villain stood and stared at the battle before him, observing every move that was played with the focus of a buzzard scouting its prey. That was until a fist came flying at him from below, striking his chin and knocking him back. Quickly Mirio swing a right and a left hook at the villain, who managed to dodge both before catching him with an uppercut to the stomach, followed by another
Left completely wide open Mirio was already given the chance to finish the fight, punching straight at the boy's face. But unexpectedly a black void appeared in front of him, shoving his fist into the darkness and have it some out in front of Mirio's face
Confused the hero punched himself in the face, dazing him for long enough to receive two boots to the chest, throwing him backwards. When Mirio looked up to see what he was dealing with, he saw before him two additional villains
The first was the same villain covered in darkness, and the second was a boy wearing a green latex outfit. But what struck Togata as off were the injuries he had, several holes and soot marks all over his body, and even his mask was damaged to reveal curly, dark green hair and a single green eye. But that was all it took for Mirio to recognize him
"That's the boy that broke into the school, and that other guy too." He thought, raising his fighting stance
Likewise, the returning Izuku Midoriya was able to scan his surroundings and take note of his environment. After consuming an energy drink and eating a few granola bars he felt good enough to fight again, not knowing just who he was facing next
In front of him was Mirio Togata, the same one whom he fought the other day at the school. He could see from a distance that Tomura was struggling against him, and if he and Kurogiri had not intervened then he surely would've been defeated. But in the background was the battle between the great All Might and the Nomu sent to kill him, both trading blow for blow and rocking the ground below them
"I'd like to watch but I have to focus, I'm needed here." He told himself, facing the student hero down alongside his allies
"Three against one is hardly a fair fight ya know." Mirio joked, trying to lighten the mood
"We don't fight fair." Said Tomura, who was visibly pissed to see Mirio standing before him
"We're just here to kill All Might, if you walk away now you won't be hurt." Izuku warned, surprising both Kurogiri and Tomura
"I won't back down, not when there're lives to be saved!" Togata retaliated
Ignoring the battle that raged behind him Mirio ran forward and charged at the leader first, throwing a lighting fast string of punches and kicks after the boy. Even though Tomura managed to avoid one or two attacks, the rest slammed into different parts of the body before finally knocking him over with one final punch. Yet equally unable to react were the other two villains, both of which tried from throwing punches to creating portals, but none were effective as Mirio's quirk prevented them from harming him
Now switching targets Mirio tried his luck with the villain in green, throwing a punch to the face forced Izuku to raise his arm to block. But Mirio's fist passed through the raised arm and instead went straight to the face, striking cleanly and at full force, knocking the boy backwards as he struggled to recover. Taking this new opportunity Mirio dove into the floor like it was a pool, sinking into the ground of absolute darkness and flinging himself up into the air yet again
As he rose to the surface he attempted yet another rising uppercut, only to miss entirely as the attack was sidestepped by Izuku. But in the same spinning motion he launched a spin kick to the face, only for Izuku to roll backwards. Now out of range Izuku rose to his feet as Mirio landed on the ground
"I've studied a bit of his fighting style. He likes to use his quirk to sink into the ground and shoot into the air, and even bypass defenses." Izuku thought to himself
"He's tricky, no wonder he's still here." Mirio thought as well
But unexpectedly a cold hand grabbed onto his leg, startling him as he looked a pale hand coming from a small portal. He was startled and frankly horrified but strangely enough there was no reaction or effect coming from the villain's quirk
"Aizawa's covering for me!/Aizawa is nullifying Tomura's quirk!" Both he and Midoriya realized as he charged headfirst towards his original target
Seeing the villain with a hand sticking into a pocket of void Mirio rushed him yet again, now with an uncanny level of speed that caught the boy off guard. But before he could land his paralyzing gut punch a patch of void appeared before him, teleporting the villain away. In that same instance a flying fist came from out of nowhere as a portal was able to teleport the second criminal into the air
Quickly Izuku landed his punch to the face and stunned him long enough to land a kick, but quickly the by recovered and used his quirk sink into the ground yet again
Moments went by before Izuku realized what was going to happen next. He turned around to warn his ally of what's to come but was too late as he witnessed Tomura fall to the ground clutching his stomach
Mirio stood over the body of his opponent ready to face his next assailant. He took a moment to breathe before he was suddenly surrounded by black smoke. Quickly the darkness shrunk, and when it did so he was nowhere to be seen
"Did you teleport him?" Izuku asked
"I didn't." Kurogiri responded
Just as Izuku was ready to prepare himself he saw Mirio rise again from the ground in front of him. He jumped back just in time to avoid the initial attack and was ready to retaliate by using his knives when he felt a pair of cold eyes fix their gaze upon him
In an instant Izuku's body froze as every ounce of reserve energy he was using dissipated, leaving him paralyzed on the spot. He could feel his quirk disappear, a barrier between him and a sea of weariness and pain finally crack like a broken dam. Instantly every pain in his body multiplied tenfold as his body lit up like a glow stick. In the seconds he remained conscious he could only witness as Mirio reeled back his fist for a final attack
"Power!!" He yelled, punching the boy in the stomach with enough force to lift him from his feet and throw him backwards, landing on his back and knocking him out on the spot
"Whew! Glad I could take care of that!" Mirio sighed, turning to see his handiwork
A few feet away from him and in two different spots are the two villains that he was able to knock out, hitting them in a soft spot in their stomachs and inflicting them with enough pain to force them on the floor. The only one left was the shadowy villain that helped them, but he'd be a tricky person to face
Yet before anything could happen there was suddenly a loud boom that came from behind him, forcing him to turn around and see All Might and the black creature, which was suspended in the air. But placing a fist below the creature All Might yelled with all his might
"Plus Ultra!!"
In one move the Nomu was sent flying up into the sky, launching it into the down above where it created a gaping hole as the monster continued to fly away
Standing alone and victorious the great All Might finally faced the others that were before him
"That sure took a while eh? If I were any younger this would've been a breeze!" He boasted confidently before finally addressing the villains that were laid out. "And with that I believe it's time to take you lot to the police."
"I believe not." Said the warp gate villain, who took the chance to create more portals to teleport the three of them, undisturbed by Aizawa's gaze. "We'll be back, and next time with more than a mere toy." He threatened as his body began disappearing from sight, along with the two villains on the floor
The very moment that the three villains disappeared breathed a sigh of relief, now certain that the danger was averted
And yet behind him, All Might began to cough loudly, spitting up a little blood onto his mouth as he fell to one knee
"All Might? What's going on?" Mirio asked, panicking as he rushed forward to try and help the man
But slowly a steam hissed from his body, enveloping him until he was out of sight. Slowly the steam evaporated to reveal a thin, weak man who coughed violently
"...All Might..?"
"Yeah...I'm here..." Said the man, also ashamed to be seen in his current state. His messy, baggy clothes now had blood splattered all over them, and his body seemed shriveled and weak
The teen could only stare in fear of what he saw before him, the great All Might having been reduced to a fraction of what he once was. There was almost nothing that was left that resembled the legendary hero, the one who could stop several crimes all at once, the one that could punch holes into the earth. He'd lost everything that made him a hero...
"Is that really you?" He asked again, disbelief clear upon his face
"Yes...this is the real me..."
In an empty and uneventful bar a trio of criminals appeared from thin air, two of which were injured and the third was not in the best of shape
"Damnit...he was too strong..." Shigaraki groaned in pain, still clutching his stomach as he laid in the floor. Beside him Midoriya did almost the same, though he was clearly on the verge of collapse
"I'm gravely sorry Shigaraki Tomura, Midoriya Izuku, for that could've been prevented had I been more attentive." Kirogiri bowed apologetically
After taking a solemn bow he drew his attention to the unconscious Midoriya, walking up to him and placing a hand on his neck
"He's still breathing." He assessed
In light of the situation Kurogiri was able to breathe a sigh of relief. Despite the outcome their mission was a complete success, although it was a shame he had no way of knowing where the Nomu ended up. Still, master's plan went without a hitch
Speaking of the devil, the man made his appearance through a television screen obscured by darkness as he called out to his loyal servant
"Kurogiri, I trust that the operation went smoothly." All for One asked
"Yes sir. The Nomu was able to put up quite a fight with All Might, but in the end it was blown out of the USJ. Sadly I'm unable to recover it."
"A shame, it was quite the asset of ours. But so long as the hero is cowering in his meek little form then I'm satisfied." All for One responded, unperturbed. "And what of Midoriya and Shigaraki?"
"Both are alive and well." The servant responded. "Although the unexpected presence of Mirio Togata from the third year proved to be a nuisance, his quirk gave him an advantage over the three of us combined."
"Oh? Now that's interesting. I'm certain I'll have to question my informant further."
"I see. And may I ask a few questions master?"
"Speak, Kurogiri."
"What was the purpose of the second Nomu? I was not made aware that we'd be using two." Kurogiri questioned
"A mere addition to the roster of things to throw away. The good doctor provided an extra experiment, a greater challenge if you would." Was the man's response vague
"And what was the reason for Midoriya's own battle?"
"That is an excellent question." All for One stated, knowing that the subject of the matter was unable to hear him. "I wanted to provide the boy with the opportunity to prove his strength to himself. Knowing that dastardly bully of his he likely stood no chance against him."
"Correct, although his anorexia hindered his ability to fight."
"A lesson he'll have to learn on his own." He said coldly. "With every challenge that I give the boy his loyalty to me is strengthened tenfold. So long as he finds purpose within our group then I have no reason to worry of his loyalty."
"I see, your mind is unmatched master, for your plans have gone smoothly."
"All too simple."

Anyway now that the first arc is complete I'll take a few weeks to switch back to my other fanfic that I'veneglected to update for a while now.
