Hot water. HOT WATER. THE DOCTOR JUST SAID THERE'S HOT WATER! I practically screeched with joy before running to Rennie and I's room. Rennie ran after me, shouting at me.

"I call the shower!" Rennie yelled down at me but it was too late. The little kid stood no chance since I was already in the showers by the time he caught up. I cackled as he groaned, a soft thump on the bathroom door. I assumed he'd smacked his head on it. The hot water was doing wonders to my dirty skin, peeling away the grime and blood that covered me. My hair was no longer matted by the time I was done. I looked into the mirror, humming, before freezing at the sight of me. It had been a while since I'd looked in a mirror and I was fairly surprised. A girl stood in front of me and was no older than nineteen. She had dark brown eyes with a fleck of lighter brown dotting it. Her eyes seemed curious as she gazed back at me, her slightly wavy blackish-brown hair running past her shoulder blades. A knock promptly startled me out of my daze.

"Are you gonna stay in there till the end of the world or are you gonna come out soon," Rennie groaned.

"Keep complaining and I'll purposefully stay here as long as I can," I snapped playfully, yanking the door open. THe boy's eyes lit up as he rushed past me, shoving me out the bathroom and slamming the door shut.

"Finally!"

I snickered, strolling down the hall towards the rec room when I heard something strange.

"You love me, Lori. You love me," Shane's voice growled through the shut door. I froze before I heard the woman's whimpers, slamming the door open and storming in. Lori scratched Shane's neck just as I reached her and pushed her behind me. A drunk and shocked Shane stood fuming in front of me as I stared back at him with an easy coolness.

"Go to bed, Shane." The room echoed back at me, a cold and almost mechanical voice. "You're drunk."

"I'm as sober as I can be," Shane snarled, fury replacing any and all emotions. You've done this before, Lynnie. You got this.

"Lori," I called her name without looking at the shaky woman behind me. "Go take care of Carl."

"A-"

"Now." I interrupted, glaring straight back at the cop in front of me. I didn't have to turn around to know that she had slipped away, leaving me alone with an unsub. I mean, potential rapist.

"You don't get to interrupt me, bitch," Shane growled, stomping closer up to my face. The whiskey bottle I'd taken a swig from was in his hands.

"And you don't get to try and rape other women in our group, asshat," I scowled. "Especially when it's your best friend's wife."

"What do you know you little-" Shane slapped me before I'd anticipated it, sending me reeling back. The stinging sensation made me wince before I growled and launched myself at him. He went down in three seconds, his head under my shoe as I pinned him down and wrenched his arm all the way back, stealing his whiskey bottle.

"What I know, Deputy Walsh, is that you might wear a badge of a county, but I wore the badge of a nation," I snarled in his ear. "I lived off taxes and tears of people to hunt down criminals worse than you and to hunt down international crime lords by myself. So I'd suggest you knock it out."

I left him like that on the floor, slamming the door behind me. I sighed, wishing it hadn't come to this. I walked down the hall towards my room until the door burst open from my right and Glenn stared at me. He gently invited me to his room with a slight tug on my wrist before closing any means of escape behind me.

"Glenn?" I whispered, startled by the intensity of his eyes as he stood close to me, closer than a sober Glenn would have dared.

"You may have delivered death," he murmured, voice gentle but a little rough at once. "But you'll always be a beautiful angel."

My eyes widened at his compliment, startled. What on earth was wrong with this boy?

"Glenn, you're drunk," I forced the words out of my mouth, barely forming the words in my mind. He inched closer, gaze flickering down to my lips before darkening with a look that sent pleasant shivers up my spine, static warmth enveloping my skin. I wet my lips, feeling the need to try and calm him down.

"On you," he whispered, leaning in closer and closer till I could see my wide eyes in his own. His hand came up to tilt my head towards him and I closed my eyes instinctively as I felt his breath overwhelm all senses. Soft warmth enveloped my lips, ever gentle and barely brushing before the door flew open. I jolted away from him, gently holding him back with my hands firmly on his chest. Ben stood at the door, his gaze and jaw hardening as he looked at us both.

"C'mon Lynnie," Ben grabbed my wrist, firmly ripping me away from the boy I'd barely shared a kiss with. When we'd walked some distance away from Glenn and Ben's shared room, he turned towards me again, sober anger shining in his eyes. "Did he do anything to you?"

"I'm not helpless," I snapped at him, huffing.

"I know," his gaze softened before he embraced me. I stood still, shocked yet again by the opposite gender before I pulled away. Hurt flashed in his eyes before disappointed understanding replaced it. "I worry for you because I care, Arlynn. I care about you more than I should and want to and it's driving me insane."

I blinked at him, baffled before I took a step away from him towards my room. I shook my head in disbelief. This wasn't supposed to happen. Ben was supposed to be my best friend, my brother, not a lover. Neither was Glenn. No one was supposed to love me or care for me, not since… I blinked back the tears in my eyes, my hand on the room door handle as Ben looked at me pleadingly. I choked on my emotions, barely getting out any words.

"I'll… I-I'll see you tomorrow, Bennet." I wrestled the door open, slamming it shut behind me. Rennie was snoring on one of the beds, well asleep. I slid down the door, my hand automatically clutching the ring on the chain around my neck. An oath that I couldn't break. In the gaping darkness threatening to swallow me up, I sobbed quietly, cursed memories erupting about me. His laughter echoing in my ears, his warmth spreading through my own body as we watched the meteor shower, his cheers as we hit the bulls eye of the targets, and then the shouts as he fell in front of me, gone in an instant.

"Jake…"
