Romeo and Juliet of Dragon City Chapter 2
The shock nearly overcoming her commonsense Nafisa hastily disposed of the positive pregnancy test so no one else could learn of her secret. The fact that she was pregnant absolutely blew her mind in more ways than one. Not only was she really young to have a baby, but also her father was going to freak out especially when she had to tell him whom the baby's father is. Nafisa didn't know what would make Connor Penn madder. The news that she's pregnant or that she's going to lose her shot at racing.
All this was weighing heavily on Nafisa's mind as she left the house to wander around the stable grounds.
But if there were anything that could lighten her spirits it is her brothers Artha and Lance.
She found them in one of the courtyards where Lance was sweeping up dragon manure. And he was not being to quiet about it in his whining and complaining either to Artha.
Artha couldn't resist messing with him.
Walking up to Lance from behind, tapping the kid's shoulder and pointing, Artha said "Hey you missed a spot."
"What? Oh. Why do I always get stuck cleaning up after the Dragons," groaned Lance, throwing the broom onto the ground.
"Because you're my little brother, Lance. And you have to help me," said Artha, giving him a noogie.
Lance tried to get out, but Artha had him in a tight headlock.
"I do," said Lance. "Wait, no I don't."
Artha then continued with the noogie.
"All right guys, that's enough," said Nafisa, smiling.
"Nafisa," said Lance, slipping out of Artha's arms and bolting in her direction.
Lance wrapped his arms around Nafisa's waist pressing his face into her stomach.
Sending a loathing glare at Artha, Lance said "Artha was being mean to me."
"Oh, was he now," smirked Nafisa. "I wouldn't put too much stock in what Artha has to say, Lance. His brain is so small he pretty wouldn't know how to use a broom anyway."
"Hey," exclaimed Artha.
Artha just chased his brother and sister around the yard with them laughing merrily in his face.
"I still can't figure out why Dad let you have a Psi-Class Dragon," said Artha.
"Maybe because I actually take my training seriously and I actually like Dragons," retorted Nafisa.
Nafisa's Dragon is a Psi-Class, also, known as a black draconium breed. This type of Dragon is particularly difficult to control and Connor Penn was just as surprised as all of them when Nafisa's Dragon, now named Moonbeam for her coloring, took to her so quickly. Although it shouldn't have surprised them that much. She is Connor Penn's daughter and his skills and natural talent as a Dragon racer, handler, and breeder rubbed off on her. With Artha those traits were less than apparent. You couldn't get him interested in Dragons even if his games went permanently offline. That didn't stop their father from trying to convince Artha to get into racing every chance he got.
A throat clearing caused them all to turn to find their father Connor Penn observing them wearing an amused brow.
Releasing Lance, Artha stammered "Dad, I was…I was just, uh…"
"Fooling around," said Nafisa, grinning.
Connor Penn stared at his eldest son smiling.
Deflating, Artha said "Yeah, I know, responsibilities."
"Right. Around here we-," began Connor Penn.
"Help each other out. I know, Dad," said Artha.
Picking up the broom and holding it out to Artha, Lance said "Especially our little brothers."
Artha angrily swiped the broom from Lance's hands scowling at how smug he looked.
"You know, Artha, you're sixteen, just like Beau," said Connor Penn. "Ready to race and find out just what great things he's capable of."
Rolling his eyes, Artha said "Subtle, Dad, very subtle. Me. Dragon. Great things. I get it. Only I'm the one with the shovel."
"I don't see you using it," said Lance.
"Lance," said Nafisa, a warning in her tone of voice.
"There are great things in store for all of you. I should know. I raised you all from pups," chuckled Connor Penn, softly, turning to his daughter. "Which reminds me. The racers are starting to arrive, Nafisa. I need you to get Beau ready and meet me by the tracks."
Beau was still without a rider so Connor Penn had invited racers he saw with great potential for a demonstration. To see if Beau would choose any of them as his rider.
It's turning out to be quite an event.
"Yes, Father," said Nafisa.
Patting her shoulder, Connor Penn said "Good. I'll see you both there in a few minutes."
Connor Penn and Nafisa then walked away leaving Artha and Lance alone again.
"And I helped raise you from a dork," said Artha, jabbing at Lance with the shovel as he laughed.
Lance angrily took the broom back shoulders slumped.
Authors Note:
Shout out to author L'autreAumor for letting me use the name Moonbeam for my characters dragon.
As you all may know next chapter or the following one Connor Penn vanishes. Will Nafisa be able to tell him the news of the pregnancy in time?
None of you are going to believe what happened to me recently. I was on the way to get my nails done for a potential job interview when suddenly another car slams into my from behind. An idiot driver wasn't paying attention so I and the car in front of me got hit pretty hard. I'm fine, got lucky, not a scratch on me, but it could've been a lot more serious. The side of my head hurt and my left side is really started to feel the pain. Nothing was broken just sore and bruised.
Bad news is my car got totaled. I really liked this car to I've had it for three years. Good news is I've been able to buy a new one.
That day was looking so bright and then this crap happened.
For those of you who drive here, take my advice. EYES ON THE ROAD! I came out alive this time around. The same thing might not happen for any of you if you get into an accident. It's harsh, but the truth.
