Romeo and Juliet of Dragon City Chapter 4

Nothing bad happened to Nafisa. In fact what was is the total complete opposite.

Moordryd leaned forward molding his lips to hers in a kiss. Nafisa shut her eyes wrapping her arms around her neck to bring him closer sharing in the kiss. This lasted for a couple of seconds before they pulled apart.

Lovingly cupping the side of Nafisa's face in the palm of his hand, softly, Moordryd said "I've missed you so much."

As Moordryd his thumb over her smooth skin Nafisa grazed the back of his hand with the tips of her fingers leaning into his touch.

These two born from divided family's lost in a feud decades old met under the most unlikely of circumstances on the racing circuit. They'd started their careers at around the same time so it didn't take them long to cross paths with each other. As usual with everyone but his crew Moordryd had always been unpleasant, obnoxious, arrogant, disagreeable, and vexation towards. He showed her this big tough guy act and Nafisa saw right through that. It took a while, but they both ended up falling hard and fast for the other.

Unfortunately for this couple the journey down the road of love hasn't been an easy one. While most are completely unaware of the connection Moordryd and Nafisa knew of the animosity between their fathers. Nafisa had mixed feelings about how her father would react, but Moordryd's…forget it! He would never accept them like this.

So, since then, Moordryd and Nafisa have been required to keep their relationship in the shadows. Even their friends never had a clue how intimate they were. In public they acted with disdain and hate towards each other to keep up appearances, but whenever they had a chance to meet up they were as free as can be with their affections.

The last time was a couple of weeks ago. Moordryd had sent his crew out on a job his father had ordered them to undertake. Moordryd was told to stay back, told it was too dangerous for him. He hated being kept in the dark, but this left him a little amount of time to spend with his girlfriend where no one could see. Nafisa already knew where the Dragon Eye's base was located so all Moordryd needed to do was give her the time and she would be there.

All alone with no one to bother them one thing led to another and well…the baby now growing in her tummy is testament to that.

Other than that Moordryd and Nafisa hadn't been able to arrange another gathering since then.

To Moordryd's displeasure even here they had to take great care not to get caught.

As the two were locked in each other's arms some of the visiting racers went passed the still slightly open door. In an instant Moordryd swept Nafisa further into the darkness of the storeroom in order to remain concealed. Only when the riders were gone did the pair relax.

It angered Moordryd immensely to constantly do all this sneaking around. A factor that he had no problem with voicing aloud as he always did.

"I'm tired all this," spat Moordryd, frustrated, with great passion and conviction. "Our love should not be hidden like its some kind of immoral thing! When are you going to tell your father about us?"

Arms crossed, brow quirked challengingly, Nafisa said "I don't know. How about when you speak to yours."

Touché.

Moordryd huffed turning his back to her.

Smiling, Nafisa said "Moordryd, you're a prominent racer now. When the races for the open Academy spot for Dragon City come you'll be accepted. And then-.

"And then what? We'll still be hiding in the dark, our relationship a carefully masqueraded secret," sighed Moordryd, tiredly rubbing his eyes. "It doesn't matter."

"It does matter. We knew it would be like this. Perhaps soon things will change for the better for us, after you're in the Academy, but for now this is the way it has to be. And in the shadows of Dragon City or in any other city, most importantly in my heart, I will always love you."

Shrugging in acceptance, smirking, Moordryd chuckled "Well you do look really good in the dark."

"Moordryd," said Nafisa, warmly.

The two then shared another tender kiss.

Despite all this affection suspicion quickly rose inside Nafisa. The opportunity having presented itself Nafisa had some questions she required Moordryd to answer before departing.

"What are you doing here at Penn Stables anyway? You must've known it's a risk to even show your face here. You look exactly like your father. Dad recognized you immediately. He would never have let you on Beaus back. What's going on," I demanded.

"Nothing you're going to like," said Moordryd.

Eyes narrowed, Nafisa said "Spill it."

"My father he wants me to steal the Black and Gold Dragon," said Moordryd, grim faced.

Not believing she heard him correctly, eyes wide, Nafisa said "Beau?"

Nodding in confirmation, Moordryd said "Tonight."

Shaking her head empathetically, Nafisa said "No, no, no, Moordryd, you can't. Do you have any idea how long my father has devoted himself to breeding a Black and Gold Dragon like Beau? This is the achievement of his life's work!"

"I know how much this means to your family really I do, but I don't have a choice in this," said Moordryd. Nafisa went to argue again. Moordryd held up a hand to silence her. "Nafisa, please, think of it this way. I've told to determined and obsessive my father can get when he sets his eye on something he wants. If I don't do it he'll find someone else more willing who will. Not only that but he might begin to suspect that something is up with me. He'll have someone investigate. I don't doubt that person will find out and expose us. Do you want that to happen?"

Resigned, Nafisa said "No, I don't."

"One way or another this is going to happen," declared Moordryd.

Exhaling shakily, Nafisa said "Promise me something."

"Anything," said Moordryd.

"Don't hurt them," said Nafisa, tears forming in the corners of her eyes.

Moordryd had no idea who she meant by that. It could've been her father, brothers, or even the Dragon. It didn't matter to him which one.

Kissing the tears away, murmuring into her air, Moordryd said "I promise."

Nafisa was going to hold him to that promise.

Moordryd's communicator suddenly went off signaling someone, either his father or crew, was calling him. He needed to leave now in order to answer. That way no one would be sent looking for him.

Stroking Nafisa's cheek, reluctant, Moordryd said "I don't want to go."

"You must, Moordryd," said Nafisa.

Moordryd then checked through the open crack in the door if the coast was clear. Fortune was in his favor. No one was in sight. Best to go now before someone actually was in the area.

"I love you," said Moordryd.

"And I you," murmured Nafisa, kissing his cheek. "Now go."

Moordryd then slipped out and marched away.

Nafisa watched him go the smile leaving her lips.

Slowly Nafisa raised a hand to press against the flesh of her stomach where she knew their child was growing within.

"Not yet," she whispered, dolefully.

Authors Note:

Now you know how Nafisa and Moordryd first met. Very romantic in preference to them, I think.

So Nafisa didn't tell Moordryd that she's pregnant. Something tells me it'll be a while before she does so, especially with what's supposed to come next.

Also, the anniversary for the terrible tragedy of day of 9/11 year's ago just occurred.

I was a very young child when that happened. All I can remember that day was my mother picking me and my little sister up from grade school. At home my sister and I learned what happened in New York City. The Twin Towers had been destroyed, the city in a full blown panic. My father came home soon after fearful that we were all going to be attacked. That was one of the scariest days of my life. I know for a fact I'll never forget it. I doubt anyone will.

For those reading this right now I know we can't all be together, but I ask that you share a moment of silence and prayer, no matter your religion, out of respect for the people who died that day and those alive who are still suffering from being there that day. And those of you who may be either going to a restaurant or a bar please raise a glass in a toast for those survivors and fallen.
