Romeo and Juliet of Dragon City Chapter 6
Nafisa made dinner for the family, but her mind kept traveling back to the confrontation in the stables. She kept diverting her attention back and forth from the food to the stable's, worried that Moordryd might soon return with reinforcements to take Beau. Plus, her father hadn't come back inside yet. Nafisa guessed he was occupied with guarding Beau.
Fingers crossed that he'd come in soon for dinner. That way if Moordryd did come back, which Nafisa knew he would, there would be no risk of her father getting injured in the scuffle.
Lance and Artha were sitting at the table while they waited. Lance is playing with a vid game and Artha staring at the amulet in his hands. He'd been doing that for hours.
"Nafisa, I'm hungry. When's dinner gonna be ready," whined Lance.
"Just a little longer, Lance. I'm almost done," said Nafisa.
As Nafisa returned her attention to the food preparations something caught her eye outside and not in a good way.
Three shadows were seen moving across the outside of the stable. Three people had snuck in. Nafisa narrowed her eyes, recognizing the silhouettes. She had a pretty good guess whom they might be.
"No," she breathed.
Nafisa couldn't let this happen. No matter how much she loved Moordryd.
Nafisa has her brothers to contend with. She can't leave without any form of explanation or else at least one of them would get suspicious and follow after her, putting themselves in the line of fire.
Fortune seems to be in her favor for she finally finished making the supper. So Nafisa moved with haste getting the food on the plates and putting them on the table.
Already with an excuse in mind now Nafisa headed out with a plate in hand.
"Where are you going," said Artha.
"I'm bringing this to Dad," said Nafisa. "You know him. He hardly ever takes breaks. Dad's probably not going to eat until all the work is done."
"All right," said Artha, digging in, not giving it a second thought.
Fingers crossed that her brothers wouldn't become wise and figure out something is wrong. The moment Nafisa reached the bottom of the stairs she put the plate down. She'd give it to her father later. If not then she'd dump it to keep up appearances to the act.
As Nafisa stepped outside she immediately looked at Beau's stall. Outside of it she saw Moordryd with two of his crewmembers Cain and Rancid messing with the lock.
One step at a time Nafisa slowly began to make her way over, intending on putting a stop to this nonsense. Before Nafisa could intervene there came the unthinkable.
Suddenly there can an enormous explosion from the top level of the Penn home. The shock created from the blast caused Nafisa to hit the dirt, an arm lifting above her head in reflex as a shield from the debris.
Hand pressed to her lips, horrified, Nafisa whispered "Moordryd…you didn't?"
