Hello! This is a new Jacob/OC story. I am trying to move away from the original story and try something new. Please remember to comment and review. I appreciate feedback!

"Okay, we're good. We're settled and we have a job. Things can only go up from here," I muttered to myself as I brought the last box of my stuff out of my car and into my new home.

I took a good look around my new place. I was renting an efficiency in a small town called Forks in Washington. I finished my pre-requisites for nursing school and decided to move here after my mom passed away from cancer. We visited this place once during one of our random road trips. Mom was completely obsessed with the area and we spoke about her retiring here. Unfortunately, she never made it.

I applied to the local college for nursing and ran into the sheriff, Charlie. My mom actually made friends with him on our last road trip and he kept in touch with her over the years. I updated him on moms passing and how I decided to move here. He did not hesitate to help me out.

His neighbor was apparently renting a room out for a reasonable price and he managed to reserve it for me. He also introduced me to a man who is in a wheelchair and needed help with some of the day to day stuff. Apparently his wife died years ago and his kids are all busy with their own lives. Charlie told him I was going to start nursing school and he was more than happy to accommodate my schedule. Everything was falling into place.

A knock coming from the front door ripped me out of my thoughts.

"Everything good," Shirley, my landlord, asked.

"Yes, I just wanted to thank you again for your kindness," I smiled.

I knew that giving a 21 year old a place to live would make anyone uneasy, and even though Charlie is the town sheriff and her neighbor, she didn't have to rent me the place.

"No need to thank me sweetie. Charlie is having a BBQ later. You should swing by," she smiled at me.

"Thanks, I will," I said.

It took me a week to fully move in, but now I was done. Moms and I apartment was returned and that's the end of that.

I diligently started working on organizing my space. The efficiency had a bathroom, a small area for a room and another area for a small living room. I didn't have a kitchen, only a small counter with a mini fridge and a microwave. I was fine with it since I wouldn't even have time to cook for myself here. The efficiency was small but all I had was a futon, a desk, and a coffee machine so it was more than enough space.

I accommodated all my personal items and set up my laptop on the desk. I noticed a significant amount of time had passed, so I decided to start make my way to Charlie's.

I walked next door and knocked on the door. A man in a wheelchair opened the door.

"Who's this lovely young lady?" The man smiled.

His comment didn't made me feel objectified. In fact, I felt comfortable around him and I could sense his warmness.

"My name is Amelia, nice to meet you," I said while sticking my hand to give him a hand shake.

"Oh! So you're Amelia. I am Billy. You're going to be helping me around the house," he said taking my hand.

"I see you two are getting acquainted," Charlie said popping out from behind Billy.

"Yeah, and I'm starving. Is the meat ready already?" Billy asked. Charlie rolled his eyes.

"It's almost done, come inside Amelia. Let's sit in the back," he said.

Billy rolled himself inside the house and I followed behind closing the door. I followed them out to the backyard.

I sat on a lawn chair next to Billy. I looked around the backyard to see if Charlie's daughter was here.

"Charlie told me a bit about you. I'm sorry about your mother," Billy said.

"Yeah, me too. Mom was a fighter though. I'm proud of how positive she was through her journey. I guess I chose to go into nursing because of her. I want to make her proud too," I said.

"She really was something else. I met her mom at the diner and she was too much. She had everyone cracking up," Charlie reminisced.

"Yeaupp, that's mom. She's was definitely a people's person. Her accent was also hilarious," I laughed.

My mom was Hispanic and she spoke English with a heavy accent. It was cute though.

"By the way, didn't you say you have a daughter my age?" I asked.

I felt the mood shift.

"Yeah, she's just kinda doing her own thing. She ended up getting married right after high school and adopted a child," he told me.

I couldn't help but make a confused face. Getting married, reasonable but adopting a child was a whole other level.

"Wow, you're a young grampa," I joked. Billy chuckled.

"He's a handsome grandfather," Billy laughed out loud. Thankfully he killed the awkward mood.

"Hey, your kid isn't any better," Charlie said.

"Oh yeah, how old if your kid?" I asked Billy.

"He's 19," he answered.

"Ohhh, they got married after high school?" I asked.

"No no no," Billy said while shaking his head.

"No, Bella married some kid from her school. Jacob is just their free babysitting service," Charlie laughed this time.

I rolled my eyes. These two grown men acted like children. But I did find his comment strange. Was this Jacob kid really taking care of the adopted kid? Why? I mean, he's an 19 year old kid.

"I feel like there's a lot going on here for me to really understand," I said awkwardly while rubbing the back of my neck.

"Oh, you have no idea," Charlie said while chugging his beer.

It became silent between us three.

"So Billy, my current semester I'm going to school Tuesdays and Thursday from 6pm to 11pm. I also have Clinicals on Saturday and Sunday from 7Am to 4pm. I will come early Monday through Friday to cook and clean and help around the house. Is that okay?" I wanted to break free from the awkward silence.

"Yes, and if you want to bring your stuff to study that's alright with me," he said.

"Thanks, I appreciate it. Thank you for also hiring me without even knowing me," I chuckled.

"Don't sweat it. Charlie here gave you a hell of a recommendation."

"Alright, food is ready," Charlie said while giving me a plate of BBQ wings and corn.

"This looks amazing!" I said. I was starving since all I was able to eat was breakfast. My mouth was salivating.

"Thank you. I can't cook but I make a mean BBQ," Charlie said while giving Billy his plate.

"You want something to drink?" Charlie asked me.

"Yeah, can I have a beer?" I asked.

Billy and Charlie both looked at me surprised.

"What? Who eats BBQ without a cold beer?" I asked confused.

"Now there's a woman who knows how to eat BBQ the right away," Billy approved. I couldn't help but snort.

Charlie returned with three beers and we sat around the table eating and drinking. Those two were hilarious together. They picked on each other and teased each other to no end. It was nice though. I knew mom would have liked them. She was exactly the same way.

It was getting late, so I picked up the plates.

"Let me clean these for you," I offered.

"Nah, you're the guest. Just leave them in the sink. I'll clean them after I take Billy home," Charlie said.

"Oh, actually can I take him? I want to see exactly where he lived since I've never been on the reserve," I said.

"You sure you could drive? You had 3 beers," Charlie asked.

I could hold my drinks well. Three beers was like water to me. For the sake of not looking like an alcoholic, I lifted my thumbs up.

"I'm fine. I sobered up with the water."

Charlie gave me a look, but finally agreed.

"Let me get my car from next door," I told Billy. He nodded his head in agreement.

I walked over to my truck and pulled up in the front of Charlie's house. Billy and Charlie came out. Charlie helped Billy get inside the car and placed his wheelchair in the back of my truck.

"Alright, stay safe," Charlie warned.

"I will, thank you," I said while driving off.

Billy gave me the directions to the reserve and we made it to his house quick. It was only like a 20 minute drive from my place which was great.

"Can I borrow your phone? Let me see if Jacob is home so he could help me out of the car. If not, we can do it together," Billy said.

I pulled out my phone and gave it to him. Billy put the phone to his ear.

"I'm glad that you're home. I'm outside in a truck, can you help me inside the house?..." Billy said.

"No I'm not with Charlie, I'm with Amelia. The new person who's going to help me around the house," he continued.

"Yes, thank you," he said while hanging up and giving me the phone.

"He's such a grump sometimes. Anyways, he's coming to get me," Billy said.

I watched the front door open and a huge masculine man came out. He came towards my car.

"Did you say he was 19?" I asked.

"Yes, that's him," Billy confirmed.

He looked closer to 25. The closer he got, the better I got to see his sharp black hair and his light brown eye. The guy was breathtaking.

He went straight to the back of the truck and carried the wheelchair out with one hand. He then pulled the passenger door open and quickly grabbed Billy and put him in the wheel chair.

"Aren't you going to introduce yourself?" Billy scolded.

"Hey I'm Jacob," he said roughly. Now I see the 19 year old. He was an ass.

"Amelia," I said.

"Alright, I'll see you tomorrow dear. You have a great night and drive safely," Billy said while being dragged away by his son.

After they were inside the house, my chest felt heavy. I had such a good time with them, that it almost made me forget the passing of my mother. The loneliness and sadness crept back into my heart. I drove to nearest convenience store and bought a 6 pack of beer.

I drove home, set my alarm for tomorrow, and drank until I couldn't feel my emotions anymore and went to sleep.
