Let's continue our story~

I became awkward towards Jacob after that. I started school again and this time, I avoided him. Jacob was still waking up late, which was perfect for me because I was able to either leave before he woke up or make some lame excuse and run off.

"What are you thinking about?" Britney asked me.

"Oh nothing, I was just staring," I answered.

I was currently in class listening to a lecture. I was thinking about how I was barely able to avoid Jacob today. He had woken up earlier then expected today. I needed to get him out of my mind.

Class was finally over and I rushed out of class.

"Why you running so fast? I thought you loved this class," Julian yelled behind me.

I stopped walking and waited for Julian to catch up.

"It's your favorite class, not mines," I joked. My stomach growled and Julian raised his eyebrows.

"I didn't eat anything during break," I whined.

"Why?" he asked. I was embarrassed to admit that I couldn't spend anymore money.

"I wasn't hungry at the time," I lied.

"Well, want to go somewhere to eat?" he said.

"No, no... I'll just eat when I get home," I said nervously.

"You sure?" He asked.

"Yeah, totally. I'll see you later," I said and rushed to my car. I let out a huge sigh when I got to my truck.

"How embarrassing would it be for me to tell him I'm broke and couldn't afford to eat out," I snorted to myself. I put the key into the ignition and turned on my car and headed home.

I arrived home and dug in my mini fridge for anything to snack on. Unfortunately, there wasn't really much to eat. I threw myself on my futon and held my stomach. Maybe it was better that I didn't eat. It was late anyways. I groaned.

There was a knock on my door which startled me. Who the heck would be coming to my house at this time? I walked over and checked the peeping hole. Jacob was standing outside.

"What the heck?" I gasped.

I opened the door and peeped my head out.

"What are you doing here at this time?" I whispered.

"I... brought you some food," he said while holding out a plate.

I looked at him dumbfounded. How the heck did he know I was hungry? I opened the door and let him in. Jacob came in and handed me the container.

"Thank you... but how did you know I was hungry?" I asked.

"I heard you as you were running out of the house. You said, and I quote, "Shit, I forgot today I start earlier. I don't have time to eat- oh well," he smirked.

I laughed nervously.

"Good, I thought you were watching me or something."

Jacob laughed too, but it sounded a bit forced to me.

"Let me give you some company while you eat. We haven't been able to talk in a while," he said.

I bit my lip nervously. It would be rude for me to kick him out after he brought me food.

"Umm Sure."

I grabbed a fork and opened the container.

"I am done with the job so I'll have more free time in the day," he said.

"Oh, good for you," I said as I ate.

"Yeah. The client was happy," he continued.

"So, what were you doing exactly?" I asked.

"It was a big appliance job. Basically had to do it all new," he replied vaguely.

"So why did you have to do it at night?"

"It's a long, complicated story," He said trying to avoid the question.

"How's school?" He asked quickly.

"It's going well. It's not as hard as I thought," I said.

"It's cause you've been doing all that pre studying."

I bit the inside of my cheek. I was pre studying, but most of the time it got interrupted with thoughts about him.

"Yeah, it must be..."

I finished my meal.

"Thanks for bringing me this. I owe you one," I said.

"Yeah, you do. Anyways, now you can go to sleep happily," he said.

I nodded my head and walked him out.

"Goodnight, get home safe."

Jacob patted my head. I looked at him dumbfounded as he walked away to his car.

Jacob wasn't kidding when he said he was going to have more free time. He was even waking up early and insisted on doing chores with me. I kept things very friendly and casual. I fell into a delusion that Jacob and I could possibly be something more than friends. After witnessing his conversation with Bella, I realized I was setting myself up for heartbreak. I had to focus on myself and my goals.

I was currently at the bar with my friends celebrating another semester completed.

"Another semester done!" Britney yelled as we toasted our drinks.

"Now we get to do heavy duty stuff," Mike yelled.

"I doubt you're going to be saving lives in the ER," Leslie laughed.

"You don't know that. I'll probably be a natural," Mike said.

"That's if you get chosen," Julius said.

Starting next semester, we would be doing our clinicals at one specific area.

"You always got to kill the vibe," Mike retorted.

"Guys! They just sent the email. Our placement is listed!" Leslie yelled.

We all took out our phones and opened our emails as quick as possible.

"Yes! I got pediatrics!" Britney said happily.

"I got mental health facility," Leslie said.

"Of course you got that one, no one else picked it," Mike joked.

Leslie punched him on the arm. "Where did you get?" She asked.

Mike read his email and frowned.

"I got my second choice, the ICU," he said.

"I got ER!" Julius said.

I read my email and smiled.

"I got ER too!"

"We will get to work together!" Julius said.

"It looks like it."

"Let's have another shot!" Britney said while waving the waitress down.

"Lemon drops for all of us please," she requested. The waitress nodded her head and left.

After our shots and a couple of more drinks, we decided we were good for the night.

"What kind of nurses are ya'll getting so drunk?" Mike cracked up laughing.

"You're the worse of us all," Leslie laughed.

"Alright alright, let's not make more of a scene. You guys better have tipped the waitress well," I shouted.

We all drunkenly got up from the table and left the bar.

"They going to forbid us from coming again," Julius laughed.

"If they do, it's cause Britney dropped her cup twice," Leslie said.

I laughed and followed the group out of the bar.

"Leslie and I are going to call for a ride. She left her car at my place," Britney said.

"Cool, Julius is riding with me," Mike said.

"What about you?" Julius asked me.

"Oh, I got a ride too," I said.

Jacob didn't allow me to drive over here so that I didn't drive home intoxicated.

"You want us to wait for your ride?" Mike asked.

"Nah, you guys go on. He should be here any minute," I said.

I had actually forgotten to call him, but it would be embarrassing to call him now in front of everyone.

"Alright, we will see you in school," Julius said. Mike waved goodbye at me.

When they were out of sight, I pulled out my phone and called Jacob. Jacob didn't answer so I left him a message to come pick me up.

Instead of going back into the bar, I walked out of the parking lot and made my way further down the road. I tried calling Jacob again but he didn't respond. I knew I should have taken my car.

The road was dark and quiet. It was actually pretty nice.

"Lia..."

I stopped walking and looked around. Was I losing my mind or did someone call my name? I continued to walk on the side of the road. I tried called Jacob again but no response. I couldn't believe I was going to have to walk all the way home.

"Lia!" I heard again but more clear.

The hairs on my neck stood. That was not my imagination. I looked towards the trees. I couldn't not see who was calling me. My legs stood frozen in fear. All I wanted to do was run back to the bar.

I turned my body around, getting prepared to dash when a giant wolf appeared out of nowhere in the trees. I could barely see it in the darkness, but I saw it's outline and it was huge.

"Of fuck!" I muttered.

My legs finally connected with my brain and I ran for dear life. I don't know who could have been in those trees but there was no way I would have been able to save them anyways.

As I finally saw the bar again, Jacob pulled up next to me.

"Are you okay?!" He asked.

"Why didn't you pick up the phone?" I shouted hysterically.

"I figured you would be done around this time so I made my way over," he said.

"We need to call the police! Someone's in the forest and there's a giant wolf. They might get hurt!"

"What are you talking about? Why would someone be inside the forest at this time? Plus, a giant wolf?" I could tell that Jacob thought I was insane.

"I know it sounds crazy, but when I was walking home, I heard someone say my name! Then I saw a giant wolf run through the forest!" That sounded crazier when I explained it.

Jacob laughed nervously.

"Okay, you need to go to sleep. Hop in," he said.

I bit my lip. I was furious that he didn't believe me.

"An innocent person may get hurt," I said firmly.

"Okay, let's think this clearly. Why would someone in the forest know your name? Plus, why would they be calling your name from the inside of a forest? Either you imagined it or that person didn't have good intentions for you anyways," Jacob rationalized.

I sighed. He was right. I opened the passenger side car and hopped in.

"Hah, giant wolves. They're all giants for you since you're short," he teased.

"Hey! I've seen wolves before. This one was 3 times the fucking size!"

"I think you were just scared and you imagined them bigger," he said.

"So we're not going to at least report it?" I asked.

"I'll let Charlie know," he said. I nodded my head and then laid it on the glass. My eyes rolled back and I fell asleep.

Next time I woke up, I was tucked in bed. I guess the adrenaline rush from last night wore me out. Then I remembered what exactly happened last night. I didn't trust that Jacob would tell Charlie. He didn't even believe me. I jumped out of bed and changed out of last nights clothes. I ran out the door, straight to Charlie's door and knocked.

Charlie opened the door.

"Hey Lia," he said.

"Good Morning Charlie, I'm sorry about coming to your door so early, but I had to report something I saw," I said.

"Early? It's already 1pm," he said.

"Shit!" I said under my breath.

"It's okay, Jacob already reported it to me," he said.

"He told you everything? The person and the giant wolf?" I asked. I sounded crazier and crazier every time I said it.

"Yes. I sent some people out there to investigate and we didn't find anyone so don't worry about it," he said.

I bit my lip. I was very confused. Was I imagining it?

"Well thanks, see you around Charlie," I said while walking off.

I dragged my feet back home. Something didn't feel right.

I took a shower and brushed my teeth. Someone knocked on my door.

I opened the door and saw Paul.

"Oh wow, look what the cat dragged in."

He smirked, "You're the one that looks like you got into a fight with a cat. Your hair is all over the place."

I pouted. "I just washed it," I grumbled.

"You want to go have some lunch?" He asked. I nodded my head.

"Let me fix my birds nest and I'll be out," I said and closed the door. I went to the bathroom and fixed my wavy curls. I ran back outside.

"Best I could do," I said while locking the door.

I followed Paul to his car and we headed out.

"I heard yesterday was a crazy night for you," he said.

"Yeah, It started out fun and then it took a turn for the worse. If Jacob told you the story, he probably made me seem like some crazy person."

"Well, he did say you were drunk shouting about some giant wolves," he laughed.

"I don't get what's so hard to believe?"

"Whatever you mixed in your drink, don't do it again," he chuckled.

I rolled my eyes. I've been more drunk and I've never experienced anything like that.

"You have any plans for today?" He asked breaking me out of my thoughts.

"Nope," I replied.

"Well, we're having a birthday party for Claire, she's Emily's niece. Do you want to come?" He asked.

"How old is Claire?" I asked.

"Well... she will be turning 4," he said.

I couldn't help but release a snort.

"I guess there will be no beer," I joked. Paul laughed along.

"Yeah, probably not," he laughed.

"Sure, I'll show up."

"Alright, you remember where Emily lives?" He asked.

"Yeah, I'll be there."

I knew where Emily lived but never actually been inside her house. I wonder if it was really okay for me to show up.

"Cool. We're getting together like around 6pm," he said.

I looked at my watch. It was already 3pm. I needed to rush to get the little girl a gift. I couldn't show up empty handed.

"Alright, let's get going then!" I said rushing Paul.

Paul paid for our meal and dropped me off home.

"Btw, what does she like?" I asked.

"I don't know. She's a kid. I got her a ball," he said. I rolled my eyes.

"Really Paul? A ball?"

Paul shrugged his shoulder.

"Best I could do. See you later!" He said while driving away.
