Jacob's P.O.V

After she left, I went back inside and went straight to Sam.

"I don't know why but they are after her," I told him.

"After who?" He asked confused.

"Amelia, I smelled the Volturi in her car. She told me they spoke to her," I answered.

"So it was the Volturi that we were sensing. We need to protect the reserve and add extra protection on Amelia," he said.

"I want to be the one to guard her," I said.

"Jacob, I have to ask. Is there something going on between the two of you?" He asked.

"No there's not. She's just my friend," I reasoned.

"I don't know. Why would you pretend to get hurt for your friends attention?" He scolded.

"I-I don't know okay? It's strange. I have this need to be around her. Now after smelling danger her on it, my chest is tight and all I want to do is make sure she got home safe," I told him.

"That doesn't sound right Jacob. You already imprinted," he said.

"I don't understand either Sam."

Sam looked at me.

"We will figure this out later. Go make sure she's alright. I'll let everyone else know the new plan," he said.

I nodded my head and left to make sure she was safe.

Amelia's P.O.V

"You don't have to drive me. I will be fine," I told Jacob.

I started a new semester and it was time for my preceptorship at the Emergency Room. Jacob has made it his personal duty to ensure that I made it to all my classes and got home safety, which I appreciated but the hospital was not far from my home.

"So you're working 7Am to 7pm?" He asked.

"Yes," I confirmed.

"Alright. When do you take breaks?" He asked.

"Well that really all depends on how the shift is going. There's no set breaks," I told him.

"I see. Well then, I guess I'll see you Sunday," he said.

"Sure," I told him.

It was Friday night and I was leaving Billy's house. Jacob has become strangely more attached to me since the birthday. Even though it was sudden, I didn't mind the extra attention.

When I got home, I received a text from Julian.

"Breakfast tomorrow morning?"

"Of course!" I texted back.

"Meet me at Sarah's diner at 6am. We'll have some breakfast before starting our shift," he replied.

I gave him a thumbs up.

The next morning I woke up early and met him at the Diner.

"Hey! You Showed up!"

"Of course. I told you I would," I said.

"Well, I thought maybe you would oversleep," he said.

"I see how low you think of me," I replied.

"Yeah, that was terrible of me but I'll buy you coffee to make it up," he said.

We went inside the diner and took a seat at the bar where we drank some coffee and had a light breakfast. The diner was walking distance from the hospital so we made it on time without a problem.

When we got there we went our separate ways and worked with the nurses that we were assigned too. Forks didn't have many people come through and the day went by pretty slow.

"Hey, so who's that guy that you're always with?" Julian asked me during our break.

"That's Jacob, he's a friend of mines," I replied.

"You guys seem pretty close. I thought you guys were dating."

I shook my head and laughed.

"Nah. We just pretty cool with each other. He was basically my first friend when I moved here. He made sure I was okay."

"If you say so," he laughed. "If you ask me, he likes you," he finished.

"Hah, no. He's pretty committed to someone," I said.

Thankfully Julian dropped the conversation after that.

At the end of my shift, I made my way outside and found Jacob leaning against my truck.

"Pretty committed my ass," Julian mumbled as he walked past me.

I walked towards Jacob.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" I asked.

"I wanted to make sure you were okay," he said.

"Well, you could have just waited for me in front of my house."

He scratched his head nervously. "I guess I couldn't wait."

I bit my lip nervously, "Well, I'm fine. I'll be going now."

I walked around him and got into my car.

"Wait, are you hungry? We can grab some dinner," he said.

"I rather go home. It's pretty late," I said.

"Oh," he replied.

I turned on my car and drove off. That interaction between us felt off. Maybe because of what Julian had told me earlier. I drove to the nearest gas station and got myself 2 bottles of wine.

When I got home, I immediately took a shower and opened one of the bottles. I filled my cup and drank.

He couldn't be interested in me. He was obsessed with Bella.

I started thinking of Jacob and how he was overly concerned about me. Could it be that he's moved on from her?

I drank another cup and another cup. I was already starting to feel numb.

It's impossible. After seeing Bella, I knew why he was obsessed with her. She was beautiful while I was plain. She radiated beauty and poise. I was just barely holding on to my sanity.

I finished up the first bottle before falling to sleep.

Another semester went by. It was already close to our winter break and I was dreading it. Why? Cause I knew Bella was going to return. Jacob and I were at a good place and I felt like when she returns, it will all be different.

"You seem to be flying through these semester," Jacob told me.

We were at my house watching a show and eating popcorn.

"For you. For me, every week is torture," I said.

"Well you're off for two weeks right?" He asked.

"Yes I am."

"Well, what would you like to do?" He asked.

"Hmm, I want to do something normal. Is there a bowling alley around here?" I asked.

"Of course we have one. You want to go bowling?" He asked.

"Yes, sounds like it would be fun. We can invite the guys and compete," I suggested.

"Hmm okay, that sounds good," he said while reaching over me and getting popcorn.

Our hands touch in that moment and an exhilarating feeling flowed through me. I was already getting used to these moments. I made sure not to let him notice that I felt anything. I quickly grabbed a popcorn and put it in my mouth. He didn't seem to notice anything weird and kept eating next to me.

I was waiting for Jacob outside the bowling alley. He was supposed to be bringing along Quil, Embry, Seth, and Cole. Paul told me he couldn't make it.

I saw Jacob pulled in. Jacob came out of his car with a nice pressed shirt and dark blue jeans. He smelled very nice. He was wearing a fresh smelling cologne. If I didn't know any better, I would think this is the first time I have actually smelled cologne on him.

"Sorry Lia, none of the guys could come," he frowned.

"Really? None?" I said snapping back to reality.

"Yeah, they all had last minute plans," he muttered.

"Well, that doesn't matter. It'll be fun just the two of us," I said.

We walked together to the bowling alley.

Jacob's P.O.V

I was going to murder Paul.

"This is your chance to go on a date with her. You will be going alone," Paul grinned.

"It's not like that. You know I've imprinted on Nessie," I said.

"I hate to take Paul side, but it seems to me like you're falling for Lia," Quil said.

I clenched my teeth. That wasn't possible.

"She's a much better choice too," Paul said.

"I've spoken to Billy about this Jacob. He said that he will do some investigation on his end. Maybe it is possible to imprint on two people," Sam said.

"Especially since your Alpha bro. You get different rules," Seth intercepted.

I could feel my face getting hot.

"Just admit it. You don't leave her alone, you're super protective, and she's hot," Paul said.

I was going to strangle him.

"Admit it. If I tell you right now to stay and let me go out with her tonight, you wouldn't be so happy," Paul smirked.

My body was shaking to the point where I thought I would transform and bite his head off

"Fine! I will go on this date with her to prove once and for all that I do not have romantic feelings for her!"

Embry and Quil shook their head at me.

"Alright so let's dress you up, put on some cologne, and if she asks what happened to everyone else, tell her they had some last minute plans," Paul said.

Amelia's P.O.V

Jacob and I went inside and purchased a lane.

"So when was the last time you bowled?" I asked.

"Wow, I must have been a kid. How about you? Are you good at bowling?" he asked while putting on his shoes.

"I used to come all the time with mom. I'm not that great but I like to say I'm good," I said.

"Then lady's first," Jacob said.

I grabbed one of the bowling balls and threw it. I had a couple of pins left. I grabbed the ball again and did a spare.

"Not bad!" I jumped excitedly.

"Not bad at all," Jacob smirked. He grabbed the ball and threw it. Jacob did a strike.

"What the heck! You're good at this!"

Jacob rubbed the back of his head nervously.

"Maybe it's beginners luck," he said.

"Yeah yeah," I said rolling my eyes.

I grabbed the menu and ordered a large pepperoni pizza for us and a bucket that came with 12 beers.

After my 6th beer, I was finally starting to relax but my bowling did get worse.

"Damn! You won!" I pouted.

Jacob laughed at me.

"Well maybe you would have done better if you weren't tipsy," he replied.

"I would have still lost. You did a strike almost every turn!" I said while opening my next beer.

"Well, is there anything else you want to do?" He asked.

"Hmm, we can hang out at the arcade," I suggested.

"Lead the way," he said.

I grabbed my bucket and walked over to the arcade. There we spent a good 30 minutes playing different shooting games and air hockey.

We walked over to another area that had laser tagging. I already drank my last beer. I wasn't really drunk, but I was for sure tipsy.

"Yoooo, let's do it," I told Jacob.

Without thinking, I grabbed Jacob's hand and dragged him to the laser tag room. We put on our vests and grabbed our guns. We were on the opposite teams.

"You're so going down," he said.

"Yeah yeah, you're bark but no bite," I teased.

"I'll show you bite," he said.

The door opened and we were able to do into the arena. After the operator explained to us the rules, we were able to start.

Jacob and I chased after each other shooting at each others target. I hid under a post that the arena had.

"Come out come out," he taunted. I watched him walk around and pass me.

At that moment, I jumped out from below the post to scare him. He knew I was hiding there because he instantly turned around to shoot me. I got scared and tripped over my own two feet and fell right on top of Jacob.

"You okay?" Jacob asked.

"I'm fine, sorry," I said embarrassingly.

Jacob brushed the hair from my face and smiled up at me. My heart started pounding uncontrollably and I ripped myself from his arm and stood up. I shot him multiple times.

"Now I'm winning," I said nervously and ran away.

Jacob got up to chase me and we kept playing until the timer went off. I actually won by one point.

"Yes! I won!" I shouted happily.

"That's no fair, you cheated," he pouted.

"Says who? You got distracted."

"How couldn't I? You fell on top of me," he replied.

"Yeah well... You're the one that brushed my hair from my face," I said as we walked out of the place.

We walked towards my car.

"Well, can you blame me? You came out of nowhere and crushed me," he joked.

I felt my face get hot from embarrassment. My mind took the joke the wrong way.

"Are you saying I'm overweight?" I asked.

"No, that's not what I-" I cut off Jacob.

"I know I'm not skinny and beautiful like she is," I said.

I couldn't stop myself. The alcohol was making me feel more strongly about his comment and everything I was feeling was trickling out.

"I get it, she's perfect. I saw her. I'm really nothing compared to her," I said.

My eyes felt hot. I felt teardrops forming and I begged for them to not come out. I quickly turned around and started walking fast to my car.

Jacob didn't move from where I left him. I got into my car and drove off. I couldn't believe I got into my feelings like that. I was too old to feel so insecure, but here I was upset over a silly comment.

I stopped at a gas station and grabbed a bottle of wine. I just needed to forget.

"Oh, is that you Amelia?" I heard someone say.

I turned around and saw that weird girl Jane.

"Nice to see you again, it was Jane right?"

She smiled at me.

"I'm getting some drinks too. Want to drink together?" She asked.

"Sure," I agreed.

We both got a bottle of wine.

"Where should we drink it?" I asked.

"We can go to my place. It's not far from here," she said.

I agreed and left with her. I got into my car and followed her to an apartment building. I parked my car and followed up to the second floor.

She opened the door to her home, and revealed a bare white apartment that had a couple of furniture.

"Sorry, just recently moved," she said.

"Don't worry," I responded. I understood what it is like to move.

We went in and she sat down on her couch. I immediately went over and plopped myself next to her. I grabbed the bottle wine and twisted it open.

"Do you have any cups?" I asked.

"Oh, I do," she said while getting up and going to her kitchen. She brought back the wine cups.

I poured both of us. She sat again next to me.

"So what got you down?" She asked.

I chugged my cup.

"Men. This particular guy, I told myself not to fall for and here I am getting upset over something small."

"Hmm, that does seem like a problem," she said.

"It's stupid, I know," I said while pouring my second cup.

"I can't really judge the situation. I've never felt that kind of love," she said.

"Well... good for you. It's easier that way. So why did you move here, if you mind me asking," I said.

"I'm here on a job. I have to monitor our companies product," she said.

"That's cool. What kind of product?" I asked while finishing my second cup.

"It's inorganic products," she said vaguely.

"Okay cool... do you have any family?" I asked.

"I have a brother but he's not living with me."

"Oh, my mom just recently died. She was the only family I had," I said.

"That's sad. Do you miss her?" She asked.

"Yes, everyday. She was my hero," I said while drinking my next cup.

She smiled at me.

"Would you like to see her again?" She asked.

I was confused with the way she worded the question. Almost as if it was an option.

There was a hard knock on the door that broke my train of thought. Jane got up and opened the door slightly

"Where is she?"

Jane opened the door wider and Jacob rammed in.

"Let's go," he growled.

"Wait... How did you know where I was?" I asked baffled.

"We got to go," he insisted. Jane just stood there.

"Do you guys know each other?" I asked.

"We're acquainted," Jane answered.

"Yeah, you can say that," Jacob said.

There was really a lot about Jacob that I didn't know. I felt embarrassed about this whole situation, so I calmly got up.

"Thanks for listening to me, we should do this again," I said and walked out.

Jacob slammed the door shut and followed me.

"No, you shouldn't be associating with that girl. She is bad news. Stay away from her," he said.

"Jacob, just take me to my car and I'll drive home," I said.

"You've been drinking. I'll take you home and drop off your car," he said.

I was so tired and exhausted from all the events that occurred that I dozed off when I got in the inside of his car.
