Chapter 154: Oliversaurus
One afternoon, Thomas was taking Sir Topham Hatt to The Pack's new work site. Sir Topham Hatt had given the land for a new school to be built, and
couldn't wait to check on the progress. Miss Jenny was waiting for them at the platform and helped him out of the coach.
"Afternoon, Sir Topham. Ready to begin?"
"Yes, please. I look forward to seeing the construction up close."
So after exchanging his top hat for a hard hat, Miss Jenny gave him a tour of the site. First she took him to the football field, where Buster was driving his
steamroller to smooth out the field. Next they took a trip to the new school library, where Alfie was digging the foundation trenches. Finally she took him to
the school swimming pool, where Oliver was loading dirt into Max's dump truck. It was slow work, because the swimming pool needed to be nice and straight,
meaning Oliver had operate his excavator very slowly. He didn't mind, understanding it was essential to building the pool correctly, but Max was very local
about his strife.
"Hurry up, rustbucket! Can't that digger of yours dig any faster?"
"I need to be very precise, otherwise this hole could collapse. What would you do then?"
"Not listen to you yammer on, for one thing. I wish Monty was here too. Sick my foot."
Miss Jenny shook her head at Max's remarks.
"Pay him no mind, he's always like this. Its when his recklessness causes trouble that starts to worry me."
Sir Topham Hatt nodded his head, understanding all to well. Eventually, it was time for him to head home, retrieving his top hatt from Thomas.
"Well I must say, your work thus far has been very impressive. I knew your crew was right for the job."
"Thank you. If all goes well it'll be ready for the new school year in a month or two."
Once Sir Topham Hatt was safely in the coach, Thomas drove away with a toot of the whistle, Miss Jenny waving until they were out of sight.
Meanwhile, Oliver was still slowly digging out the swimming pool, driving Max crazy.
"Hurry up! At this rate we won't be done until Christmas!"
"No Max, I won't. I'll either do this job right or I won't do it at all."
"Do us all a favor and take the second option."
Oliver paid him no mind and returned to his digging. All of a sudden, his bucket hit something hard. Intrigued, Oliver scraped off the dirt as carefully as he could until he
unearthed something white.
"What's the hold up this time?"
"I found something. Look!"
"Its probably just trash. Throw it in the skip and get on with it!"
"I better tell the foreman about this. Hang tight."
"That's all I've done for the past hour!"
The foreman agreed that it might be important and called over Miss Jenny, who called Sir Topham Hatt, who called several Archeologists from the Sodor Museum to investigate. When the one with
the red mustache saw Oliver's find, his eyes nearly bulged out of his head in shock.
"Incredible! Jimmy, are you seeing this!"
"I am, Dexter. It seems like Oliver here has unearthed some Dinosaur bones!"
Excited chatter ran amongst the company. Nothing like this had been discovered on Sodor before, and for one of them to be the first to do so, well!
"Way to go, Oliver!"
"You're the man!"
"Makes me proud to know him!"
Oliver just beamed proudly. The scientists began to carefully dig out the Earth with brushes and other tools, being very careful not to damage the remains. It was slow going,
but at long last they had unearthed all of the bones needed to complete the skeleton. Word soon spread, and a photographer came to take Oliver and the scientists' picture.
The very next day, Thomas brought Sir Topham Hatt to the Sodor Construction Company yard, newspaper in hand. On the front cover was a very familiar face.
"It seems we have a celebrity in our mists."
"That's Oliver!"
"And his dinosaur!"
Oliver just beamed.
