Chapter 3 - She's waiting on her Miracle
"I CANNOT BELIVE YOU MAMÁ, HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU DONE THIS, ALL MIRA WANTED TO DO WAS HELP AND BE THERE FOR ANTONIO HOW COULD YOU EXCLUDE HER LIKE THAT?!"Bruno's eyes were glowing a very deep green.
"Bruno calmate your doing it again ". Julieta shushed and tried calming him down
"NO I WILL NOT CALM DOWN, I LEFT TO PROTECT HER AND KEEP HER SAFE SO THAT SHE WOULD BE TREATED LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE NOT TO JUST BE PUT ASIDE LIKE SHE ISN'T WORTHY AND PART OF THIS FAMILY, CAUSE I CAN TELL YOU RIGHT NOW SHE IS AND I LOVE LIKE MY OWN SAME GOES FOR EVERYONE ELSE IN THIS FAMILY". Bruno continued
Meanwhile Mirabel was surprised at all the commotion and didn't know her Tio thought of her as his own daughter nor had she seen or heard him yell like that before. Both families were shocked at Bruno's outburst. Mirabel just broke down in tears as she couldn't believe someone stood up for her.
"I think We need to go ". Héctor took Mirabel's arm and led to quiet place to calm down
Mirabel gently got up and went to the next room, Héctor looked at her with sadness and love.
"Estas bien Mija?" Héctor asked
"Lo siento Héctor, I just never had someone stand up for be me before let alone it being Mi Tio being the one to do it". Mirabel replied through sobs
"Ay Mija , you know your Tio loves you very much and he would do anything for you even if it means protecting you ". Héctor whispered
"Si yo sé ". She replies
Imelda came running in and hugged Mirabel tight. Meanwhile Mirabel squeezes her back hard and continues to cry Imelda's motherly instincts take over.
"Ssh ssh Carina it's okay everything will be fine". Imelda reassures
Imelda hands her a bottle of water from the snack table she had grabbed earlier, Mirabel takes a couple of sips takes a few deep breaths and finally calms down.
"Better Love?" Imelda asks cautious
She nods and smiles and squeezes her hand
"Gracias you didn't have to do this for me". Mirabel thanks
"Nonsense Mija we are for support and we will learn and get through this together I have a feeling Señorita Layla bought us here for a reason". Héctor explains
Isabela, Antonio, Socorro, Miguel and Dolores came running in with worried looks on their faces.
"Estas bien Mira ?"Antonio piped
"Si". She replied
"Don't leave us". Antonio said
"Why I would never do that Hombrecito ". Mirabel reassures
"Promise". He asked
"Si I am NEVER going to do such a thing". Mirabel replies
"You know I think we should redo Your ceremony photo when we get back what do you think?" Dolores asked
"Si". Antonio replied
"I guess it's settled then". Isabela came up and hugged Mirabel
Soon the rest of them joined on the hug including Héctor and Imelda and they were glad everything was sorted out together. They soon left the quiet space and went to join the others and Noticed that Bruno was very quiet and not talking probably because of all the yelling he just did and his voice had gone a little bit hoarse.
The rest of them noticed the others enter the room and stayed quiet for a little bit as they took their seats.
"Estas bien Mariposa?" Bruno asked
"Si Tio thank you for standing up for me that was really brave". She thanked
"De Nada Mariposa, just know that I love you very much ". Bruno kisses her forehead
She cuddled close to him as she smiled up at him.
"Well now that things have settled down I think we can continue ". Layla explains
Mirabel stands Alone as the flash comes from the camera and as the family poses, She continues to stand there as the pain bubbles up and starts burning inside her.
Mirabel singing:
"Don't be upset or mad at all".
"Don't feel regret or sad at all".
"Hey I am still part of the family Madrigal ".
"Mira Mi vida". Pepa rained down
"I am fine ". Mirabel faked smiled
"Mirabel this is not okay, you need to talk about it ". Julieta chided
"FOR THE LAST TIME I SAID I AM FINE". Mirabel yells
The families were surprised by her sudden Outburst and decided to keep their mouths shut as they watched her continue to cry in her Tio's shoulder.
Miguel had enough he got from his chair went over to Mirabel and gently lifted her head and wiped her tears from under her glasses and smiled at her she smiled back he took her hand and took her to the back of the theatre grabbed His guitar and began playing a simple melody, Mirabel continued to hold Miguel's hand and just listen to the music.
She then closed her eyes and listened to the music gently let go of Miguel's hand and started spinning herself around and she lost herself in the music as for a moment she didn't need to think about all the stress and pain and Just listened to her heart, Both families watched as they continued to dance as they noticed Miguel was blushing and smiling as a song can go a long way.
When they were done Miguel walked her back to her seat, She Mumbled a thank you under her breath and kissed his cheek which made him blush hard.
"It's looks like you knew what to do". Imelda said
"Si, She just needed to release some Stress and pain she'd looked she needed it". Miguel nodded
"It looks like she was more than happy and thankful I mean she kissed you on the cheek ". Héctor nudged
"Don't start". Miguel said
Then they looked back to the screen.
Mirabel singing:
"And I am fine I am totally fine ".
"I will stand on the side as you shine".
"You don't look fine Mira". Camilo started
Dolores nudged him to be quiet.
"I'm not fine, I'm not fine".
The pain begins to build up and Mirabel spirals out as she walks towards her Posed and frozen family.
"I can't move the mountains ".
She runs around Her Sister as this line is expressed
Luisa didn't know her sister felt that way, she had never taken the time to understand and she loves her sister very much. She knew building a stable relationship was going to take time and effort but she was willing to go through with it.
"I can't make the flowers bloom".
Mirabel runs around Isabela as if to say the line was meant for her.
Isabela sunk into her seat, Wishing she'd understood her sister better instead being selfish most of the time , like Luisa she too was going to make effort to be the older sister Mirabel always wanted.
"I can't take another night up in my room waiting on a Miracle ".
Pedro was upset that his family would treat His granddaughter like this when all she was wanting to do was help the family and that his wife would refuse her like that just because she didn't get a gift.
"I can't heal what's broken ".
As this line was said Mirabel went around to her mother and hugged Her shoulders.
Julieta felt guilty for not being there for her when she needed her the most she asked herself : " Had she failed as a mother?" Augustin then putting a comforting hand on her shoulder Julieta just showed a sad smile.
And as if Mirabel could read her Mothers mind, she got out of her chair walked over and hugged her tightly so tight that all the air in her Lungs disappeared.
"You're the greatest Mamá a girl could ask for and don't deny it I love you so much". Mirabel whispered
Julieta then cuddles her back tight with all force in the world.
" How do I deserve you Mija". She cried
" Can't control the morning rain or a hurricane ".
Now it was Pepa's turn to feel guilty, She had a cloud over her head as Felix calmed her down.
"It's okay Pepi Mirabel knows you mean well". Felix reassures
"It's not enough Amor ". Pepa cried
Just then Mirabel noticed and went comfort her Tia, She brought a yellow coloured shawl that she made in case her Tia was cold.
"Tia you are enough for me and Tio is right I know you mean well and I still appreciate and love you no matter the weather, You were under a lot of stress and it 's okay to express your feelings just know that I love you and will Continue to do so". Mirabel replies honestly
Mirabel then drapes the shawl around her Tia and gave a hug and prepped her with kisses a rainbow then appeared above her head.
"Gracias darling, I love you so much too". Pepa replied
"Can't keep down the unspoken invisible pain".
"Always waiting on a Miracle, A Miracle".
"Always walking alone, Always wanting for more".
She walked down steps tracing her Arm down the rail following the golden trail of light.
The families watched in sadness and guilt as they watched the girl express her Emotions Through song.
Once she reached the bottom of the steps she walked passed the townspeople ignoring them completely the she twirled looking deeply at Her Abuela 's door.
"Like I am still at that door longing to shine".
"Like all of you shine".
"All I need is a change all need is a chance".
"All I know is Can't stay on the side , open your eyes, open your eyes, open your eyes".
As these lines were said she twirled around facing her Abuela looking directly at her as if she was talking to her.
" Mija, I am so sorry I made you feel that way if I had known I would have been able to help". Alma looked saddened
"Esta bien". Mirabel replies
Alma got up from her chair went over to her granddaughter and hugged her tightly, she smiled and hugged back.
"It's not okay Mija you forgave me for reasons I can't understand after the way I treated you, But I promise I will try my best from now on". Alma replies
"I'll hold you to that Abuela ". Mirabel smiled
"I would move the mountains, Make new trees and flowers grow".
"Someone Just please let me know where do I go ?"
"I am waiting on a Miracle, A Miracle ".
Is it me or did Mira just predict her own future yet again?" Dolores questioned
"What do you mean Carina". Pepa asked
"I mean the 'Make new trees and flowers grow' didn't she kind of do that with Isabela by making new plants grow and telling her it's okay to Imperfect". Dolores pointed to Isabela
"Now that I think about you kind of did Mira and repaired our relationship or at least what was left of it". Isabela laughed
"Come on guys your just making stupid comments and guesses about what I did ". Mirabel shook off
"Really because we can see it". Camilo argued
"You literally did 'Move the mountains ' when Casita fell apart and cracked and opened them up". Luisa adds
"Mariposa the are right you did all that vision or not". Bruno finished
" I would heal what's broken, show this family something new".
"Again proof you did do so!!" Camilo yelled
"I mean look at Isa you showed her it's okay not to perfect ". Dolores said
"Not to mention you helped Luisa by telling it was okay to be weak sometimes ". Antonio piped
"I mean come on you even got Tio Bruno out of walls after ten years and took a big risk in asking for answers from a vision ". Isabela yells
"I have to admit Mariposa again I think you may have taken over my job gift or not". Bruno said
"I agree Brunito, not only did you do all that you went against your Abuela and found what was wrong with family and the house whether they they liked it or not". Pedro finished
"I guess I did unknowingly ". Mirabel blushed
"Case closed then". Antonio said as it went back to snuggling with his Prima
"Who I am inside so what can do?"
Mirabel raced up the stairs and onto the roof following the golden trace of light.
"I am sick of waiting on a Miracle, A Miracle".
"I am ready, Come on I'm ready".
"Mira Amor get off the roof if your not careful I swear to god-" Julieta scolded
"Mamá I am fine I have been the roof plenty of times just to watch the sunset ". Mirabel reassures
Meanwhile Miguel blushed at the sight on screen as the fireworks ignited light which made her look gorgeous and he couldn't stop staring.
Héctor went over to his wife and gave a subtle point to Miguel who's eyes look like they had stars in them, Imelda smirked and so did Coco as they watched their Miguel fall more slowly and deeper in love.
Imelda then got an idea and Socorro too.
"How goes the soul searching Mijo find anything interesting ?" Imelda smirked
"Huh No I was just Uh-" Miguel stumbles
"We know what your doing Hermano ". Socorro piped
As if luck would have it they moved Miguel closer towards Mirabel by switching seats , Socorro sitting on Héctor's lap. Miguel on the other hand gave them the death stare but they just smiled and went to looking at the screen.
"I've been patient and steadfast and steady".
"Bless me now as you blessed us all those years ago, When you gave us a Miracle ".
"Am I to late for a Miracle?"
When she hit that final note everyone was on the edge of their seats and smiling down at Mirabel with big smiles.
A tile then fell from the roof, Mirabel with a concerned look on her face went to check what it was.
Mirabel: "Casita?"
She then picked up the tile and looking at it strangely before accidentally cutting her hand on the sharp edge.
Mirabel "Ow".
She hissed in pain as she dropped the tile and held her injured hand.
"Ay Mi vida please try and be a little bit more careful next time". Pepa warned
"Si Tia". She replies
The next scene showed cracks spreading everywhere it started from the ground going upwards eventually shaking the portrait of Pedro and even the candle flickering, Mirabel was terrified she thought only the worst was to come, she watched as the doors flicked their light.
Meanwhile Everyone was enjoying the party and celebrating Antonio's new gift.
Mirabel: "The house is in danger, The house in danger".
Mirabel: "The tiles were falling and there cracks everywhere and the candle almost went out".
"I am so sorry I didn't believe you Carina I should have payed more attention ". Alma apologises
"It's okay you were stressed ". Mirabel shooed off
"That's no excuse ". Alma said
Abuela Alma:" Show me".
So with that They exited the room went down the stairs only to find everything repaired again and as it was before no crack in sight.
Mirabel: "That's not-"
Mirabel : " The cracks were there, The candle was-"
Isabela rolled her eyes at her sister's supposed lies and just thought she was doing to get Attention as well as Pepa thinking she was jealous.
Mirabel:"Abuela I promise-"
Abuela Alma : " That's enough".
Abuela Alma : "There is nothing wrong with La casa Madrigal the magic is strong and so are the drinks". She looked and reassures the guests and townspeople.
Abuela Alma : Music, Al bailar al bailar
Augustin then played a little tune that On the piano that Luisa had brought , then the party resumed like Nothing happened, Julieta looking at daughter with a sad look in hers from the top of the stairs.
"Lo siento Mi vida, I just thought you wanted to get attention ". Pepa looked ashamed
"REALLY, I AM NOT SURPRISED IN THE SLIGHTEST YOU ALWAYS THOUGHT SHE WAS A MISTAKE ISN'T THAT RIGHT SEÑORA I MEAN REALLY THINK ABOUT IT DO YOU THINK SHE WOULD STEAL YOUR SONS NIGHT". Miguel yells
Everybody was surprised it was Miguel who spoke up.
"Miguel Let's not do this please I am fine". Mirabel replies
"NO I HAVE WATCHED LONG ENOUGH AND I AGREE WITH BRUNO, I MEAN YOUR LUCKY SHE HAS FORGIVEN YOU, DO YOU NOT REALISE JUST HOW LUCKY I HOPE YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT EARNING HER TRUST BACK, JUST KNOW IT WILL TAKE TIME". Miguel nodded
Mirabel was surprised and her family all except Bruno sat down ashamed of what they have done, Mirabel went over to where Miguel was sitting and gave him a light peck on the lips.
"Gracias, I really appreciate your strength and helping me calm down". Mirabel said
"I u-u-uh you're welcome anytime ". Miguel blushed
The next scene showed Mother and daughter in the kitchen with Mirabel sitting on the counter whilst Julieta was making an arepa to heal Mira's injured hand.
Mirabel: "if it was all in my head how did I cut my hand?"
Mirabel : " I would never ruin Antonio's night is that really what you think".
"I know you would never do that Prima and I believed you". Antonio points out
"Gracias Hombrecito ". Mirabel replies and hugs her Primo and tickles him
Both families hearts ( or phantom hearts.) melted at the sight of the two cousins especially Pepa and Julieta as they didn't know just how close they were.
Julieta: " what I think was tonight was very hard for you".
"I am so sorry Mija I know you meant well". Julieta apologises
"Estas bien Mamá ". Mirabel replies
Mirabel:" That's not ugh-" she let an annoyed groan
Mirabel: " I was looking out for the family, I might not be super strong like Luisa or effortlessly perfect like señorita perfecta Isabela but whatever ".
"Mira we didn't know you felt that way". Isabela shrunk into her seat
"I didn't mean it like that." Mirabel went over to Isabela and Luisa and hugged them both
"We know". Luisa said
"But just know that Mamá was right we still love you quirks and all". Isabela laughed
"Your hermana is right Mira, gift or not your still you and that's what I love about you ". Miguel said
He then went up and smiled at her spun her around dipped her and gave her a long steamy kiss. Bruno and Héctor high fived, Isabela and Luisa we're smiling widely Camilo looked like he was about to kill Miguel. When the two pulled apart Mira was a bit dizzy and Miguel just laughed.
"Wow". Mirabel breathed
Miguel had no words he just looked at in the eyes and had the big goofy smile on his face.
"Que?" Mirabel laughed
"Nada, Mira it's just-" Miguel stopped
"You know if you want to impress a girl, try not stumble over your words Muisco ". Mirabel replies cheekily smiled
Mirabel walked off to her seat but not before turning around and giving a quick peck on the lips.
"Although I find it cute". Mirabel laughed
Miguel blushed and went back to his seat and smiled as well blush so hard he looked like a tomato.
"How was it?" Dolores asked
"Perfect ". Mirabel let out a long dreamy sigh.
Julieta: " I wish you could see yourself the way I do you are perfect ".
"Si your Mamá is right Mariposa and don't deny it, don't change yourself just to fit in when you are born to stand out". Bruno comments
"Gracias Tio". Mirabel thanked
Mirabel: " Mhm you just healed my hand with an Arepa con queso".
Julieta : "I healed your hand with love for my daughter ".
Mirabel: "Ugh".
Julieta: " With a wonderful brain".
Julieta: " Big heart".
Mirabel : " Mamá ".
Julieta: "Cool glasses".
Both families laughed at the sweet scene between Mamá and daughter. Julieta hugged Mirabel tight and she hugged back tight thankful for each other.
Mirabel: " Mamá stop it-"
Julieta:" Ay te Amo Cosa linda".
Both families laughed and smiled.
Mirabel then pulled away from her Mamá looking saddened and annoyed .
Mirabel:"I know what I saw".
Julieta sighed deeply looking tired and exhausted.
Julieta: " Mira, my brother Bruno lost his way in this family I don't want the same for you".
Bruno was surprised his Hermana mentioned him at all as he looked at her and gave her a sweet but saddened smile. Julieta went over and hugged him tight as well as Pepa happy to have their brother back.
"Lo siento, I didn't mean to it just slipped out of my mouth I just missed you so much". Julieta cried
Bruno looked at her with a small smile.
"Hey, Hey Julie it's okay I missed you and Pepi very much too you mean so much to me no matter much you drive me loco ". Bruno laughs and hugged his sister tight
Pepa joined in on the hug too and they both sank to the floor crying holding on to Bruno for dear life afraid he'll leave again.
He comforts his sisters and reassures them he is not going anywhere.
"Promise us something Hermano". Pepa said
"Si?" He replies
"Never leave again ever, we missed you so". Pepa asked
"I promise that is one thing I intend to keep". Bruno replies firmly
Julieta: " Get some sleep, you'll feel better tomorrow ".
The next scene shows Mirabel tossing and turning in bed whilst hearing the house continue to crack and she couldn't fall asleep.
The next scene shows Mirabel climbing on the roof to the windowsill in Her Abuela's room.
"MIRABEL VALANTINA ROJAS MADRIGAL, WHAT HAVE I SAID ABOUT BEING ON THE ROOF IT'S DANGEROUS YOU COULD HAVE HURT YOURSELF REALLY BAD". Julieta yelled
Meanwhile Mirabel shrunk into her seat she hated her full name being called, while Camilo cheekily smiled at Mirabel getting in trouble Pepa saw this and glared at her son and with that Camilo shut his mouth and looked the other way.
"Mamá I have told you before I am fine I am not hurt you don't have to worry". Mirabel sighed
Julieta sighed and kissed her daughters forehead gently and went back to her seat.
The next scene shows Mirabel looking through the window and then quickly hiding with her back against the wall to keep from being seen.
"Mija were you eavesdropping on your Abuela?" Pedro asked the girl
"Of course not Abuelo I didn't know she was there or even coming ". Mirabel replies
Abuela Alma: " I need you cracks in our Casita, if our family knew how vulnerable we truly are. If our Miracle is dying we can not loose our home again why is this happening open my eyes help me save our Miracle help me protect our family ".
She then kissed the locket of her husband and walked away.
"Mamá why you didn't just ask for help?" Julieta asked
"I didn't want to worry you Mija, you already had so much on your plate". Alma replies
"That still doesn't excuse the fact that you blamed Mira even after you knew about the cracks that's not right". Miguel spoke up
"Your right Miguel it isn't and should have never pressured you all and I am so sorry especially you Carina ". Alma looked at Mirabel as she said this
"Estas bien Abuela just next time ask for help when you need and don't just carry the burden all by yourself you have a family that loves you , So next time just ask and we will be right by your side". Mirabel smiled
"Gracias darling ". Alma thanked
Mirabel: " I will save the Miracle ".
"Damm right she will!!" Camilo yelled
Mirabel and the others just laughed at his Antics.
The next scene shows Mirabel in her room pacing determination in her eyes with herself dressed and ready , Grabbing her purse shoes slipped on her feet ready to go and turn the door knob when she stopped .
" Que pasa Mira, I though you were going to save a Miracle ". Socorro piped
"Just watch Hermanita ". Mirabel winked
Mirabel: " Wait how do I save a Miracle?"
The house waved the shutters as if to say 'How should I know'.
"Great going Casita now Mira has to figure it out you are not helping". Camilo pointed out
"Casita can only do so much Camilo ". Mirabel replies
Mirabel: " I figure out what's happening to the Miracle ".
Casita then shifts and moves her shutters as if to say 'Yes but how are you going to do that'.
Mirabel: " Oh I have no idea".
"Wow I am surprised you can talk to Casita and can understand her". Isabela laughed
" It just comes Naturally, besides Casita was my only friend ". Mirabel said
The others looked saddened at Mirabel's words and gave saddened looks. Antonio and Miguel gave her big hugs and told her that she's no longer alone.
Mirabel: "But there is one person in this family who know everything about anything and what's happening with the magic it is her".
Dolores smiled and laughed , Mirabel smiles and winks at her Prima this was going to be difficult…
