Chapter 162: Nelson Gets Carried Away
Nelson and his Ballast Tractor play an important role in Miss Jenny's construction company. His job is to shuttle machines and workmen to and from sites as needed, as well as important materials that Isobella can't bring on her own.
Nelson loves his job, and knows how important it is to the smooth operations of the company. But he can feel overworked, fetching, loading, and unloading things with often little time to rest. He longs for a nice rest.
"Just once I'd like to be transported somewhere," he thought to himself, "I bet its a nice feeling."
One night, Nelson was having a pleasant dream. He was in the countryside, with the beautiful scenery slowly passing him by. It took him a moment to realize that he wasn't in his tractor, and his feet weren't moving. He was in a passenger coach gliding down the rails. Nelson could barely contain his excitement!
His peaceful sleep was interrupted by the loud ringing of his cell phone. Groaning, he groggily answered.
"Hello?"
"Nelson, Thomas's engine has broken down at Cronk and no one else is available. I need you to take him to The Steamworks, pronto."
"I'm on the way, Miss Jenny!"
Nelson was out the door and on the open road in a matter of seconds. He found Thomas standing outside his derailed engine near Cronk station. Thomas's face lit up when he saw him.
"Boy, am I glad you came along! I thought I may be stranded here all day."
"Don't worry, Thomas. We'll have it fixed by the end of the day."
The two of them soon got to work. Using the winch on the tractor's trailer, They surely but slowly brought the engine onto the trailer. Once it was secure, they climbed into the cab and drove off. Thomas watched the scenery pass by peacefully.
"You're a really good transporter, Nelson," he said to pass time.
"Why thank you," Nelson responded.
"You know, I spend all day taking passengers or freight to and from places. Its actually kind of nice to be the one being transported."
Nelson turned silent for a moment, then responded.
"I wish... I wish I could know what that is like."
It wasn't long before they reached The Steamworks. Victor was waiting outside for them.
"Welcome, my friends! Don't worry, Thomas, your engine will be work ready in no time."
"Thanks, Victor."
"As for you Nelson, leave the trailer over by the tracks. Miss Jenny needs you back at the yards immediately."
"I'll drive back as fast as I can!"
"Actually, that wont be necessary."
Before a confused Nelson could ask, a familiar whistle was heard. To his surprise, Percy drove in with a coach and wellwagon.
"All aboard for the one stop express to Miss Jenny's yard! Come on, Nelson. You're burning daylight!"
Nelson was delighted, and soon was all ready to go. As the train departed, he waved from the windows.
"Goodbye, and thank you!"
Before long, they were in the open countryside. Nelson couldn't believe his eyes, it was exactly like his dream!"
"Best. Day. Ever!"
Percy just smiled, happy he could make his friend's dream come true.
