Chapter 1

Bittersweet Mistakes and Regrets

By: Aztec999

You both tumbled at the bed in a frenzied manner. Eager hands stripped away your clothes and tossed them recklessly onto the ground. A soft moan escaped your lips as he kissed you hungrily and licked at the roof of your mouth, his sinful tongue coaxing you for an entrance inside your mouth which you eagerly complied. One of his hands had travelled along the valley of your breasts, giving it a sensual caress which ignited the fire inside of—

YOU GROANED WEAKLY AS THE bright rays of the sun teased along your consciousness and made your eyes opened slowly. A pounding headache made its way into your skull that almost robbed you out of breath as you felt like your head was being split open into two. Your body feels like a sack of rice as you struggled to get up, the heavy blankets slowly falling away from your body to reveal a smooth and creamy skin. Your mind was still struggling to catch up with the yesterday's events as it all came crashing down on you in a blur of horrendous murkiness.

However, your thought processes grinded into a screeching halt when your hand had accidentally brushed on someone's chest…. the naked skin and the warm sensation shot a brief spike of electric undercurrent into your nerves and your eyes were wide as saucers as they finally landed on the familiar oatmeal, messy locks beside you. You almost screamed in shock. Almost. Since both of your hands were now covering your mouth in incredulity and scandal.

Haru was there. Haru who was sleeping beside you like an innocent little baby. Haru the fallen angel from the First Division. Haru your fucking co-worker.

Haru who had taken your virginity.

You tried not to hyperventilate as you stared at the small stains of blood at the middle of the sheets.

What the actual fuck?

Your mind went blank. The blood came rushing into your face until you could almost feel the hues of scarlet and crimson engulfing your cheeks in utter embarrassment and bewilderment.

How the hell did this happened? You can't even remember a single, damn thing.

The slight bristling of the sheets and the mild stirring of the male beside you cut off your racing thoughts and made you froze in sight.

Haru mumbled incoherently under his breath as he buried his face deeper into the pillows and remained asleep deeply into the mattress.

You released a deep, steadying breath that you didn't even realized you're holding back for those precious few seconds of your life. Not wanting to have an unwarranted confrontation or an awkward conversation with him now, you quickly got up and picked up your strewn clothes on the ground and dressed yourself at the bathroom. You gave a quick once over at yourself into the mirror and decided that you have that "messy, one-night stand look" in your face basing from your unruly long locks that looked like a bird's nest, glassy wide eyes and swollen red lips that was ravaged hungrily throughout the night. You tried in vain to make yourself seem presentable but gave up and decided to fix yourself once you get home.

As you went out of the bathroom, you threw a one last, lingering look at Haru's sleeping form. Biting your lip, your hands gripped the handle of the door tighter as if you're conflicted with something before you dispelled it away and shook your head, leaving Haru alone inside the cold walls of the hotel room.

THE TICKING OF THE CLOCK resounded sluggishly along the four corners of your room as you stared unseeingly at the ceiling for more than half an hour now. Your fingers traced along your lips unconsciously as your mind was wandering elsewhere. The succeeding events passed you in a blur as your body and mind functioned routinely once you get home that day. Your mind was empty as you took a shower when it's usually filled with shower thoughts. But not this time around as it could only bombard you with strange sensations that made your body reacted in a traitorous manner. A groan of defeat slipped past your lips as you finished taking a bath and just lied haphazardly on the bed clad with nothing but a towel.

Did you just imagine that? Was it a goddamn dream? Kissing Haru? Hooking up with him last night? Of all people? You could still feel his scent of morning dew and light breeze of fresh air clinging to your senses like a warm lover's touch. His lips that tasted like sweet promises of tomorrow as he captured your own lips in a captivating but searing kiss. You swallowed thickly. Bits and bits of memories started to trudged along your consciousness. The way his hands travelled at the expanse of your skin, leaving feverish sensations along the way. The way his voice dropped into an octave and whispered sweet nothings along your ear. The way….

Your mind came to a screeching halt afterwards and drew up a blank canvas. The uncertainty of the next events plaguing your mind. What was that? It's like something was erased within you and you can't remember a damn thing afterwards. This only made you buried your head into the pillows and yelled in frustration.

Why did it have to happen? You're not an old-fashioned person but there are some things that still make you more sentimental than a modern facet of the cosmopolitan society. You neither abhor premarital sex nor hooking up. You have a silent acceptance to those around you who seemed to indulge in that kind of situation for their own reasons. But the thought of giving yourself to the "right person you fell in love with" seemed the most natural thing for you to may be a sheer error on your personality but it's the one you have no trouble accepting with. It's the kind of facet that made you the center stage of the endless teasing of your colleagues and friends sometimes when you're having a get together and when their full attention focuses on you.

It's not that you're not in love with Haru. He was epitome of a guy that you can bring home to your parents as your boyfriend and probably your soon to be husband. His humility, candor, braveness, resilience, loyalty and determination in his line of work always made a lot of people looked up at him and easily made him an ace of the First Division. You were no stranger to this, seeing that you worked in the human resources department of the MPD and he was the usual subject of office gossip and swooning of the female crowd in your department before the arrival of the devilishly handsome rich magnate, Daisuke Kambe. People flocked to him because of his brilliance and natural charisma towards other people whether he approach them or not. While other people may have criticized him for his sense of naivety, you've looked at it in a different angle. His radical sense of justice sometimes astounds you and the way he proudly displayed his own set of beliefs regardless if it made him the laughing stock of his peers and colleagues made him more admirable to your eyes.

It didn't falter for a bit even if he was booted out of the First Division and was demoted to the MCPTF – a sorry excuse of a department to the officers who were just waiting for their paychecks and retirement pay in the future. It always amused you to know how adamant and against he was regarding his new partner's methods of obtaining information and doing the police work in a quicker manner. Daisuke didn't seem to be perturbed with the male's ranting and short fuse as he was always wearing a smug expression around his regal face.

But the thing is…you both don't love each other. And you're not even in a relationship with him. You're just practically co-workers with each other in the same building. Can you still look at him with a straight face and congenial smile when your paths crossed each other again?

Regardless if you're the one who processed his unfortunate transfer in the MCPTF and silently witnessing on how his walls crumbled down in the past at the back of the building, you're just a mere spectator and there are no intertwining strings that connect your souls to each other.

It seemed harsh but you need to look at the facts of the situation. Sooner or later you'll have to face him inadvertently since you both worked in the same building. You still have two days to make up your mind. But right now, you didn't fight the drowsiness that seemed to engulf your consciousness and welcomed yourself in a soporific state once again, letting the world fall away from your grasp.
