Bucky Barnes, Captain America's partner during World War II, was examining the streets of Brooklyn and looking and listening the word on the street in secret. He had missed his old home and was unfamiliar to the changes. But there were certain changes he can't help but appreciate thanks to technological advancements. Something was amiss though. He had heard from Captain Marvel and Doctor Doom that the world was under tyrannical rule. People committing crimes, mass murderers running amok. Yet he saw none of that. People were just living out their lives. No deaths, crime wasn't as rampant as they made it out to be, and people were happy. He was enjoying his time until he gets an alert. He quickly runs to a secluded and drops a device on the ground and steps on it. He disappears and reappears inside Castle Doom. Captain Marvel and Dr. Doom approaches him and they didn't look happy.
"Where were you?" asked Captain Marvel.
"In New York. Listening. Wanted to see" replied Bucky
"Fool. If someone saw you." said Doom who was increasingly getting angry.
"How many times have we told you that it is dangerous to be outside of Latveria." Said Captain Marvel. Bucky was getting upset. He had been frozen in ice for so many years, and wanted to see what the world was like now. It also doesn't help that his best friend is in prison.
"What's the big deal? Both of you trained me, Victor you gave me a metal arm! A freaking metal arm!" He punches a nearby statue and it shattered. "Sorry about that." The two just stare at him. "Also my best friend Steve is in prison while the world is slowly crumbling. How can I stay here and do nothing about it."
"That's the world without Steve." said Captain Marvel. "Spider-man has eyes everywhere. He can't know about you just yet."
"I'm not afraid of some punk in a mask. I can punch through walls and fought the best of the best."
"So could Steve." said Captain Marvel
"Well? Well what good are these powers if I can't even help Steve." Bucky was getting frustrated. Prior to the war he was always looking out for Steve. Steve was just a scrawny kid and was always picked on. He always looked out for him. Protected him from bullies. Even now he feels the need to save and protect Steve.
"We will Barnes...Just like how you and I freed Captain Marvel from the Raft." said Doctor Doom.
"The time will come. We will save Steve. And Spider-man will answer to us." said Captain Marvel. Hearing this from these two filled him with hope and trusted the two in rescuing Steve.
-Elsewhere-
Daredevil, Hawkeye, and Black Widow were on the Quinjet after their mission. They explained to him everything that had happened and what they learned about Hydra.
"Hydra are a lot more organized than I thought." Said Peter Parker as he rubbed his temples.
"Sounds like this is more military than vigilante." said Hawkeye, "Will the military get involved?"
"No, no military." answered Peter. "When we broke down the Regime we had to tear down their military and the government is still trying to build it back up from ground zero."
"So what? us three extradite Red Skull right under Hydra's nose?" asked Hawkeye, "I mean you know their motto. Take one out and more will come, or something like that."
"Removing Red Skull will deal a huge blow to Hydra, and in the process they will be severely weakened." said Peter. "But don't go guns blazing, they might be more organized than we think."
"Next step, super secret Hydra base." said Black Widow.
"I'll call the sitter," said Hawkeye, "Mommy and daddy will be late."
"If you guys need back up, I have someone on the inside to help you, and I can send the...well they call themselves the Champions."
"It's okay Pete." Said Black Widow. "This has to be done in secret." Peter then starts to look concerned for the two.
"Guys, you've been gone for a while. And you both have a family."
"Pete, you're family too." said Black Widow, "I couldn't be there to finish the fight with Steve. I'm damn sure I'm finishing this one." Peter smiles, knowing that he can rely on Widow and Hawkeye and signs off. The three heroes land somewhere secluded and found their way inside of the Hydra base. They see a large gathering of Hydra soldiers and up on the stage was the Red Skull.
"Hydra! Our time has come. In a few short hours, we will break the yoke of oppression. No more Regime. No more Avengers. Today, the world will welcome its new masters. THE MASTERS OF EVIL!" As the Hydra soldiers cheer on, those working with Red Skull walk up on the platform: Mysterio, Elektra, Taskmaster, Venom, Nebula, Bishop, and Sandman. "Today we show the world that we are superior! Today, we bring anyone who would dare stand against us to their knees! HAIL HYDRA!" All of the soldiers shout out Hail Hydra. The three heroes look on as this occurred.
"Masters of Evil really? Lame name." said Hawkeye.
"That's a lot more than a few of them." Said Daredevil.
"They're heading inside." Said Black Widow, "Matt keep the jets warm. When we signal, bail us out." Daredevil did as he instructed without hesitation, while the two of them made their way inside.
The inner circle of the Hydra were walking together silently, until Mysterio spoke up.
"Laid a little thick there Red Skull. You hired Steve's speech writer?"
"Soldiers must be ready to sacrifice their lives. "
"Hatred is a perennial motivator." Said Venom
"Better not turn on us, or this little club is over." said Sandman. Skull stopped in his tracks and turns towards him.
"As long as we have a common agenda, you have nothing to fear."
"You mean as long as we follow your orders?" said Nebula. From a distance Taskmaster walks in.
"Report Taskmaster." said Red Skull.
"We're ready to roll out."
"Good. Nebula, Sandman you two are with the first wave."
"We lost the first shipment earlier today, hope your silent partner can deliver." said Sandman. Him, Elektra, Mysterio and Taskmaster walk off. From above Hawkeye, and Widow saw all of this, and with three of them away, this was the moment for them to strike. Hawkeye fires a sonic arrow at their feet and it emitted a sonic wave knocking them back. The two leaped down from above.
"That was almost too easy." said Hawkeye.
"You just had to say it didn't you?" said Black Widow.
"What? It was." The three villains stand back up and stare at the two.
"These must be the saboteurs. You two take care of them." Red skull walks off to tend to other business. Hawkeye and Black Widow did not have time to stop him.
"Great we have to take on the aliens." said Hawkeye
"I'll take Nebula." Said Black Widow.
"Yes. Give the guy with a bow and arrow a monstrous symbiote." joked Hawkeye.
"Just use one of your sonic arrows." She then approaches Nebula as Hawkeye takes on Venom. The two square off and size each other up, neither one was backing out from each other.
"You have no idea what you are doing."
"What? I'm going to kick an alien's ass. Crossing that one off my bucket list."
Fight 1: Black Widow vs. Nebula
Black Widow wasted little time and moved forward to attack. She leaps forward feet first, knocking Nebula back, and then quickly fires an electric burst from her wrists, Nebula leaps over it, falling into Black Widow's trap by firing a wire and it attached itself to Nebula's chest and dives and kicks her again. Nebula was close enough to extend her arm to grab hold of Black Widow and throws her. Widow gets up and switches the wristbands to fire a grappling hook and swing kicks Nebula. Nebula gets up and Widow does it again, only this time she did a hurricarana. Widow dashes forward, which prompted Nebula to push back and clash with her.
"I'll mount your head" said Nebula
"Was that supposed to scare me?" said Black Widow. She pushes her back and does a drop kick, sending her back. Black Widow dives forward to wrap Nebula's neck with a wire flips over and pulls tightly, and the turns around to kick her and knocking her out.
"Shouldn't have gotten involved on Earth affairs." Hawkeye comes flying in, after knocked back by Venom. Widow rushes over Hawkeye, concerned for her husband. "So everything under control?" She helps Hawkeye up and Venom approaches them.
"How kind of Parker to send his pathetic Avengers. We'll enjoy eating your brains." Hawkeye fires a sonic arrow at the feet of Venom. Venom starts to shriek and fires a giant sludge at him knocking him back, and destroys the arrow and turns to Widow, "That will be you soon enough."
"Now you've done it. That was Hawkeye's favorite arrow."
Fight 2: Black Widow vs. Venom
Widow wasted little time with going on the offensive. Venom was too powerful for to fight defensively. She pulls out a sniper rifle and uses a extra powerful bullet to knock Venom back. Venom then changes his arms into tendrils to attack Black Widow from a distance. She was able to dodge each attack. She is able to leap and swing across with a pole hanging in the ceiling and lands behind him. Delivers a strong diving kick that sends Venom forward and he then bounces off the wall and Widow presses a couple of buttons on a nearby computer screen and a couple of missiles flies in and hits Venom. She gets closer to him and he pushes back to clash
"We can't wait to eat your flesh." said Venom.
"Well that's a first" replied Widow. She then pushes back and then plants an explosive on Venom's chest and just as she leaps back, the explosive goes off and sends Venom back. He gets back up and Widow didn't want to give him a chance to strike back. She electrifies her fists, thanks to her gauntlet and then proceeds to pummel Venom over and over again. She then decides to finish this fight. She pulls out her electric stun batons and hits Venom in the face with it. She knees him in the face so hard that he goes up in the air. She then follows and performs a hurricarana, flipping backwards multiple times and lands on Venom's head, knocking him out.
"Now Clint!" shouted Widow. Multiple sonic arrows flies in and hits Venom, causing great pain to Venom. Widow then took the opportunity to deliver a power kick to knock Venom out. Hawkeye runs to Widow's side to make she's okay.
"Now where's skullhead himself?" Before the two of them a small portal opens up and Dr. Strange floats in. He observes the two and the surroundings to assess what has happened.
"I've come to you as darkness falls." said Dr. Strange. "Clint, Natasha. There's a great evil coming, and I'm not sure if I can stop it."
"You mean Hydra?" said Hawkeye. "We got that covered."
"The Red Skull is just a pawn of much greater power. A new order is coming. Come with me now so I can protect you from it. Everyone and everything you know will die. I can protect you all, unless you want to suffer the same fate. By force if I have to."
"Strange, you've been in your Sanctum for far too long." said Widow.
"Then let's help him remember the outside world." said Hawkeye. "Cover me." Widow nods her head and makes sure Hawkeye is protected from any potential Hydra danger.
"Clint Barton. If you do not wish to face the same fate this reality you faced, I suggest you listen to me."
"Convincing argument. But I only take orders from her."
Fight 3: Hawkeye vs. Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange uses his magic to fire energy balls at Hawkeye. Hawkeye leaps up bashes Strange's head with his bow and whacks him again with the said bow. He quickly fires three arrows at Strange in rapid succession and hits him on his chest. He switches his normal arrows for one of his trick arrows. He fires the first arrow explodes on impact sending Strange in the air for Hawkeye to attack him for a combo. The next one was a poison arrow that hit Strange and while it didn't look like it afflicted a lot of damage, Strange was losing health slowly. The next arrow was an ice arrow, it Strange was frozen in place leaving him open for a huge attack. Doctor Strange got back up and clashed with Hawkeye.
"I just rolled a 10 to beat the wizard." Joked Hawkeye.
"Not another DnD joke." Said Strange. Hawkeye was able to push him back and fires an arrow with a boxing glove and knocks Strange back. He gets back up and then Hawkeye dashes forward and leaps over Strange's head and fires an explosive arrow and knocking out Strange.
"This day keeps getting weirder." Widow runs up to his side, and he gives a silent nod and the two run up to Doctor Strange and help him up.
"You've been stuck in the Sanctum far too long." said Hawkeye as Widow helped Strange up.
"I was in deep meditation and the spirit of the Ancient one visited me, and told me of the impending danger. I must return and continue to figure out a way to stop all of this before it's too late." said Strange. Both looked at Strange with concerned looks on their faces, after all it was he who brought them together, the east they can do is help him.
"Too late for what?" asked Widow. "Doctor Strange, you're not making any sense."
"I cannot tell you, the Ancient One has yet revealed it to me as well. Whatever happens it will be up to us to stop it." He creates a portal and steps into it, disappearing from the two.
"That was...Eerie." said Hawkeye.
"Let's get Red Skull and get out of here. We have to tell Pete what just happened." Hawkeye and Widow both try to make their escape. As they reached the exit they are confronted by HYDRA soldiers. The Soldiers move to the side and appeared before them was the Red Skull.
"You two have long overstayed your welcome." said Red Skull
"We'll be happy to check out." Said Widow," But you're coming with us." Hawkeye fires an arrow at Red Skull, he catches it with ease. Smoke comes out of the arrow and covers the room. Widow goes in and fights off the guards as Hawkeye takes on Red Skull.
"Man I forgot to pack my skin cream arrow, that would've definitely helped you out for sure." said Hawkeye.
"Those will be the last words you'll ever utter."
Fight 4: Hawkeye vs Red Skull
Red Skull pulls out a large gun and fires an energy beam at Hawkeye. He gets hit, and he gets back up firing three arrows in rapid succession, and hits Red Skull. Red Skull bounces of the wall to land behind him, delivers a combination knocks Hawkeye back and he throws a shield at him and knocks him down. He gets back up and slides at Skull's legs making him fall to his face. Hawkeye pulls a rope just as Red Skull gets up and a giant chandelier falls on top of him. He uses the wall behind to leap over and is behind him and hits him with a five hit combo, and the Red Skull pushes him back
"Now you sure you don't need moisturizer?" joked Hawkeye
"You'll be first to die." Hawkeye pushes him back and hit hims with a boxing glove arrow. Time was ticking and if he didn't finish this now both he and Widow will be surrounded. He quickly fires a smokescreen arrow at the ground blurring his vision. Hawkeye fires a normal arrow, but on the tip was Hank Pym in his old Ant Man outfit. Hank leaps in the and gets bigger and punches Skull. Hank gets even bigger as he uppercuts Skull sending him in the air. And finally He gets even bigger and stomps on Skull, knocking him out.
"Just needed to take out one head." Hawkeye approaches the downed Skull as Black Widow runs up next to him.
"Let's take him now before..." before Widow could finish her sentence more Hydra soldiers appear and point their guns at the two. Before anything else happens, four playing cards lands at the feet of the soldiers, they explode knocking a few of them out. Two more phase through a wall and knocks out one while the other with his retractable claws takes out the rests. Standing before the two were Gambit, Shadowcat, and Wolverine.
"The Calvary has arrived mon ami" said Gambit.
"You three were the insiders?" asked Hawkeye.
"Web-Head sent us a while back." said Wolverine. "Skullface was getting a bit too chatty and must've been up to something."
"What was it?" asked Black Widow.
"We don't know." Shadowcat shrugs, "We just know a yellow stone is involved and Red Skull has been having secret meetings without his group."
"A secret meeting within a secret society. Of course that would happen." Said Hawkeye. Before the heroes could do anything, a giant ship flies over them and a bright light flashes down on Hawkeye and Black Widow and they disappear before the three mutants, all that was left behind was their communicators.
"Well can't say that wasn't the weirdest thing to happen to Gambit." There was incoming call in the communicator, Shadowcat picks it up and it was Daredevil.
"Natasha, Clint, are you two there?"
"This is Shadowcat, they got captured. We don't know where they are but we'll go find them. But it looks like Hydra isn't working alone."
"Damn, we'll have to regroup. Peter is telling me there's a global wide assault going on and he wants us to return now." The three mutants didn't like leaving the two avengers behind, but they also knew regrouping for now is the best course of action. Before they could take Red Skull more Soldiers appeared and they had no choice but to escape without Red Skull.
-Latveria-
Doom and Captain Marvel were monitoring the attacks, watching everything unfold.
"New York City, Moscow, Beijing. So many cities all at once." Said Captain Marvel. Bucky sees the attack unfolding and couldn't sit by and watch what was happening.
"World is in danger and we're just going to do nothing?"
"We are going to stand by and wait for an opportunity." Said Doom.
"That's stupid." Said Bucky. "The world is in danger, and if you two are heroes than we have to do something." He starts to think about what the next steps would have to be. "We have to get Steve freed!" The other two looked on, and both knew at this moment Bucky was theirs.
