(A/N)
This story (as of editing this on April 13, 2023) will be an AU of Jujutsu Kaisen rather than an AU of DxD. Meaning the setting is a JJK world with DxD elements rather than a DxD world with JJK elements. That probably doesn't sound like much but you'll see what I mean eventually (if you're here for it)
So (no matter how easy it is to just write the JJK setting off as another Japanese faction) there wont be any DXD worldbuilding here, nor is this story a complete crossover between the two.
Chapter 2
16 year old Issei Hyoudou woke up.
His mind suddenly came to, causing his eyes to open. He blinked once, refocusing his vision. He blinked twice, clearing his mind. He blinked thrice, finally realizing where he was.
It was Monday morning, and Issei Hyoudou woke up early, earlier than normal. The sun barely peeked past the horizon, leaving only a small inch of orange in the skyline. The rest of the sky was still the dark of night.
"Fuck…" He muttered. He didn't mean to wake up this early, and he could have tried to go back to sleep. But now his eyes were no longer heavy and his mind was already starting to work.
He definitely couldn't go back to sleep now.
Even if he felt the weight of his eyelids and a slight burn in his eyes, they didn't want to stay closed.
So he gave up on trying to go back to sleep, throwing the blankets off of himself and getting off the bed. He stretched his arms and cracked his neck. He yawned as looked for his clock, the numbers "six-thirty" right next to a red "AM".
He grabbed his phone before walking out of his bedroom, walking with a slight limp over to the bathroom. It looked like only his mind was fully awake, the rest of his body having not fully awakened yet. He opened the door to the bathroom a few seconds after opening his bedroom door. Closing the door on his way in.
He stared at himself in the mirror as he washed his face. The warm water helped with taking away whatever fatigue was left in him. He grabbed his toothbrush and toothpaste and got to cleaning.
It took a total of five minutes until he left the bathroom (If you gotta go then you gotta go). He opened the bathroom door with more energy. Less fatigue in his body compared to when he first entered the bathroom.
He walked to and down the stairs, "Ma?" He said lightly. He did not hear a response.
No one else was awake. No, that's not entirely true. He looked out the front window to see one of their cars was gone.
"Dad already went to work, huh?"
He spoke to himself as he closed the blinds, moving to the kitchen to grab himself a bowl of cereal.
He sat at the table, random thoughts passed through his mind as he ate.
He had one week until school starts again.
His mother had already made him grab all of his school supplies a few days prior, everything that he (hopefully) needed was in his backpack. Today was a free day–much like almost all of summer is– so he had time to do whatever he could do.
"Maybe I should visit Yuta today." He muttered, chewing on his food.
"Didn't I always tell you to never talk while chewing?" A feminine voice called out from the other end of the living room.
A mature woman with brown hair–tied into a side ponytail– walked into the living room, moving towards the kitchen; however, not before greeting her son.
"Hm." He merely hummed at her joke, not really paying much attention to his mom entering the room, that was before he felt something pull at his cheek.
"Ack– Ow?!" He rubbed his cheek when she finally let go. "Why?"
"Don't ignore your mother, that's why." She said, but when Issei turned towards her he could see a teasing smile on her face.
So, to prepare himself for her teasing, he sighed. "Yes ma'am."
But her teasing session didn't come– not this time, at least. Instead, she rubbed his head gently.
"Don't be like that, cmon, don't you plan on doing something different today?"
"I do…" He said, continuing to eat his breakfast.
"Will Yuta be coming over? Or are you planning on going to his house?"
"Most likely his."
"Hmm, that's good." She stopped rubbing his head and moved over to the kitchen to prepare her own breakfast.
Don't get her wrong, she loves her son, but sometimes she worries about him.
It felt like his only drive was anime and manga. For the past week he had simply stayed in his room for hours on end, only coming out for the restroom or to eat. Perhaps if he was doing something about that drive, maybe creating his own manga or just drawing in general, she wouldn't be as worried.
Mangaka aren't paid the best, but at least he'll have a drive for something.
But he is young, only 16, as a mother she truly believes that he'll find his calling in life.
Hopefully.
As she prepared the stove, she thought to herself.
Well, it could be worse.
He could be a shameless porn addict.
Boys his age are known for being a little perverted, and while he is, he isn't verbal about it, attempting to keep his own perversion under lock— which is something she's fine with.
She had to thank Yuta for that.
She fears for how he would turn up in a world where her son hadn't met his best friend.
As she prepared her breakfast, she called out to her son. "When was the last time you two met?"
He stopped chewing for a split second, before continuing. Thinking about her question.
"I think it was…" He swallowed. "Two weeks ago?"
"Two weeks?" Over the course of the summer, the two boys would hang out almost every other day, for a break like that to happen must mean something occurred.
"Why? Did he get tired of your perversion corrupting him or something?"
He almost did a spit-take. "N-no, not at all. And I'm not 'corrupting' him! Why would you think that?"
She turned towards him with a sly grin. "Those posters in your room speak for themselves."
"That–!" And with that, he fell into her trap. "Those aren't perverted in any way! Magical girls are as pure as they come!"
"They're shows for little girls, I'd hope they're pure." The sly grin on her face widened even more.
"That's not–!"
She moved over to the table, plates in hand. Placing her food down she walked towards her son. He heard a giggle before she wrapped her arms around him, hugging him from behind the chair.
"I'm just messing with you." She giggled.
He knew that, but he couldn't help but defend his pride. Whatever pride a otaku like him could have, at least.
She moved back to her seat. "As fun as that was, I still want to know."
"He said that it was because he was preparing for school." He said with some doubt. "I don't see why, we're still going to the same school. So he wouldn't need to take that much longer." He attempted to not say the real reason why he thought Yuta wanted to be alone for so long.
His mom finished her bite before responding. "Well, son, maybe he was preparing more than just the bare minimum."
"Ahaha…" Issei gave an embarrassed laugh. "It's not the bare minimum…" He muttered.
She did hear him, but her only response was to give that sly smirk again.
"Well, it's still pretty early, so you have time to prepare for when you ask for your date later." She changed the conversation.
Issei cringed at her joke. "Can you not word it like that?"
Issei had sent a text as soon as he finished eating. A few hours passed before he got a response.
He looked at the message.
"Sure, but it'll have to be at the mall."
Issei blinked, before he felt a sweatdrop from his forehead. His mother had already made that joke, she didn't need fuel for the fire.
"Why?" Issei asked.
A minute later, Yuta responded. "My parents want to go shopping later, and so does my little sister, so we'll probably have to watch over her while my parents are shopping."
That's… wasn't the ideal hangout (for Issei at least) but at least it was something.
"Alright, that sounds fine. Which mall is it?"
"The closest one, of course. The one with the large square window on the top."
That response brightened Issei's mood. "The one with the best merchandise store around town? Alright! I'm down! What time?"
"Give us an hour, and then come over, I'll tell my parents that you are."
"Got it."
Issei was definitely looking forward to the day.
He looked around his room. He had hidden a wallet that contained a thousand yen, birthday money that he's been saving up. He looked around the room for five minutes, and still couldn't find it. He had a sneaking suspicion, and he hoped he wasn't right.
He opened the door and looked down the stairs.
"Hey mom!"
The master bedroom door opened. "Yes!" His mom called back.
"What happened to my birthday money?" He put emphasis on the "birthday" part.
"Ahaha…" He could almost hear her nervous laughter from upstairs.
"I may have borrowed a bit of it?" She said hesitantly.
He sighed, walking down the stairs. "Can I have it back?"
As he made his way to her room, he saw his mother standing there, looking through her own wallet.
"Did… did you use it all?"
She had the nerve to look towards him with a nervous smile. "Maybe…" She looked back, and continued digging through her wallet.
But before he could say anything, she gave him a stack of yen. "Here, to make up for that."
She gave him a stack of 2000 yen. "Hopefully this will be enough?"
"I guess… Thank you." He turned around, whatever he had to say died on his tounge. He didn't even bother to ask why she used the money.
An hour passed, and Issei had just arrived at the Okkotsu house. He rang the doorbell. He could hear some shuffling from inside before the door opened.
"Hello? Who– Oh!" A beautiful young woman with long flowing black hair opened the door.
"Welcome! Glad to see you again Issei!" Mrs. Okkotsu kindly greeted Issei with a smile. To be honest, Issei considered her to be his first crush. That is, if you don't include his own obsession with fictional girls.
The first few times they met, he had to actively remind himself; this is your friend's mom, don't do anything stupid, don't do anything stupid.
Luckily, he didn't do anything stupid. But if he didn't keep himself in check he had actually feared he would say something stupid.
"Hello Mrs. Okkotsu, is Yuta ready?" He stayed polite, not wanting to make a fool of himself.
"Oh, we're all just about ready to go." She moved out of the way and beckoned him with her arm. "Come in, Yuta will be glad to see you again."
Of course, Yuta's mom would say something embarrassing like that.
The older Okkotsu closed the door, and called out a long hallway, one that held all the bedrooms. "Sweetie! Your friend is here!"
"I'll be right there!" Yuta called back. Not a few minutes later, and a boy walked out of the hallway. A boy of Issei's age, but with thin black hair.
"Issei."
"Yuta."
Their awkward greeting didn't go unnoticed. Especially not by the mother that was right there.
"Cmon now, you haven't seen each other in weeks! Don't you have something to say?"
Both of the boys hesitated. "Uh…" Any response died on Issei's tongue.
"Not… really?" Yuta responded.
The mother Okkotsu visibly flared her arms with a huff. "Ugh, boys. Yuta, is your sister ready?"
"She's in the bathroom." Yuta responded. "I don't know what dad's doing."
"Boys…" She sighed again. "Alright, I'll give you two some privacy before we go." She turned and moved towards the hallway. Issei assumed that she went to get Mr. Okkotsu.
Awkward silence reigned in the living room when it was just the two boys.
"Was it really because of school?" Issei asked.
Yuta responded, knowing exactly what Issei was referring to. "No it was just…" He hesitated, fearful of responding.
"You're not the only one who can see Rika," Issei reminded Yuta. "I'm not much, but I'm still here to hear you out."
"I know… I know, I just." He couldn't get the right words out. "She's been acting out lately, and I wanted to give her some time to calm down."
"Two weeks? What made her so mad?" Issei asked.
"I talked to a girl."
"Don't you always do that?"
Yuta shook his head. "No I mean… I think this girl was flirting with me. And that got Rika riled up."
Silence returned for another few seconds, before Issei finally asked. "What?"
"What?"
"You can't just throw that out so suddenly, a girl was flirting with you? When? Where?"
Yuta knew that Issei was just being curious, but for some reason that question felt like an insult. "I know, I didn't believe it at first either, that was until Rika had appeared."
"But Rika used to think that every girl that wasn't in your family was flirting with you." Issei asked.
And that was one of Yuta's biggest problems in the past.
For the longest time, he couldn't even be assigned with a girl because then Rika would get the wrong impression.
"I know, but this time she just knew. I was able to get her to back off when it was just a girl talking to me about school… but when I finally moved away from the girl, Rika stayed around me."
"I…" Issei rubbed his head. "I need some context."
"Well…" Yuta began.
But he was interrupted when a young voice caught the attention of the two.
"If it isn't the idiot duo." A ten year old girl spoke with venom in her voice. A girl that (as Issei put it) 'if Yuta was a loli'.
"Talking about girls again?"
"This doesn't concern you." Yuta spoke back.
"If it doesn't then I guess you two should shut up, because mom and dad are ready to go."
Yuta sighed. "Alright."
He turned back to Issei. "We'll finish this later."
Issei nodded, his eyes filled with a certain resolve.
(A/N)
I wasn't really planning on continuing this story. While I had a whole setting and story thought out, I couldn't bring myself to write it, partially because I was a bit embarrassed with the setting and plotline (dxd and jjk crossover). I felt like I already put myself into a corner by using Issei as an MC, but I figured that I might as well go through with it. A lot of the problems I've had with this story can be solved if I simply just used original characters instead of this whole crossover shenanigan, but I already have one OC-SI story that I'm focused on, and I don't need another.
The major reason I decided to continue this story is because of Gege, who has proven himself to just be someone that does whatever the fuck he wants with the stories. So I decided "why the hell not?" If Gege wants to cook in the lab, then I might as well too.
Much love
