Episode 88: The Poke-Spokesman

Mew and her friends continue on their way to Olivine City so Mew can compete for her next Gym badge. However, Pikachu begins to show sighs of exhaustion.

And is growing very tired as he says, "Pi...pika…" (Can't keep going...go...on without me…)

The group soon notices as Pikachu collapses on the floor.

"Pikachu seems to be tired out," Misty says.

"Yeah, Pikachu looks a little tired," Mew says.

Pikachu tries to show that he's fine, but fails and falls on his bottom.

"Something's wrong," Jen sadly says.

"Maybe Pikachu is just tired from walking through the mountains all day," Brock suggests.

But Pikachu says, "Pika." (Not quite.)

"Not quite? So is it something else?" Mew questions.

"You are correct miss," A voice says.

The group turns to see a slightly elderly man sitting on a rock. He has a gray ponytail and eyebrows, and slight tan skin. He wears a dark green jacket, gray pants, brownish yellow shirt, and brown shoes.

"The soil in this area contains minerals that absorb electrical energy," The man says.

"How can minerals absorb energy?" Brock asks.

"Very easily," The man says and approaches the group, "Those Pikachu belong to you, young lady?"

"Yes, he does," Mew says.

Suddenly, the old man starts talking like a Pikachu, to their surprise, Pikachu, Mew, and even Tomo can understand him. The man continues to speak to Pikachu as Pikachu talks back.

"Just as I suspected. Your friend has lost a lot of energy. And if you don't do something fast, he will collapse. I have a little rest stop down the road a bit, follow me," The man says.

The man then asks Pikachu a question, and Pikachu answers.

"I'm afraid your friends are too weak to walk there," The man says.

Surprised, Misty asks, "How did you know that? How can you tell?"

"Because that's what Pikachu told me," The man says.

"Pikachu told you?" Molly asks.

"You mean, you understand Pokemon like me and Tomo do?" Mew asks.

"If you have the same gift I do, then yes. I happen to speak fluent Pokemon," The man says.

The group is actually shocked, especially Mew and Tomo. They're shocked to hear that someone can understand them.

At a rest stop, Team Rocket is there having a break.

"So nice to have a relaxing, refreshing cup of tea," Jessie says.

"And with these outfits, we got the senior citizen discount. Unfortunately, we're nearly out of money again and we have to think of a way to get some," James says.

"Don't worry, I'll tink of somethin. But I'll think a lot better after I eat!" Meowth says, and begins to chow down on his food.

Until he looks to his left to see Mew and her friends are heading their way.

"Here come the twoips!" Meowth says.

"We better hide!" Jessie says.

Her teammates agree, "Right!"

Team Rocket proceeds to hide under the bench they were sitting on.

The man then says, "Once you get to the bottom of the mountain, you'll find a Pokemon Center and you can have Nurse Joy do all her medical tests, but, for now, you can use my rest stop here and recharge Pikachu's electrical reserves."

"How do we recharge them?" Tomo asks.

"It's simple, you do it yourself," The man says.

The man points to a bike connected to a generator.

"I see! We use the bicycle to generate electricity!" Brock says.

"Kind of reminds me of when I used Misty's charred bike to charge up Pikachu's electricity," Mew says.

"I remember. It really sent Team Rocket flying, and blew up the Pokemon Center," Misty says.

"Really?" Molly asks, surprised.

"It's true," Mew says.

"That gizmo will pep your little friends right up," The man says.

Mew turns to Pikachu and asks, "Wanna give it a try?"

"Pika Pika," (I'll try it.) Pikachu says.

Soon enough, Mew sits on the bike while Pikachu is plugged to the generator.

"Here we go, Pikachu!" Mew says, and Pikachu starts pedaling.

Soon, Pikachu slowly starts regaining strength.

"If you have any other electric types, they're gonna need recharging, too," The man says.

"We have a few, but they're fine for the time being," Brock says

"Guess that means I'll charge you for multiple bicycle boosts, if those other electric Pokemon you mentioned are low on power, too," The man says.

"We have to pay for recharging Pikachu?" Misty questions.

"Well, naturally, there's a fee for using my bicycle, and then there's my Pokemon interpreting fee," The man says.

Everyone exclaims, "YOU CHARGE A POKEMON INTERPRETING FEE?!"

"Well, it is an unusual skill and I only do it to cover the expense of maintaining the rest stop here," The man says. "But I should've told you from the beginning that I charge for my services, so I won't this time."

As Simon properly introduces himself, the camera pans under the bench to Team Rocket.

"That's an interesting little tidbit," Jessie says.

"Pikachu's low on electricity?" James replies.

"Let's see, shall we?" Meowth says.

Team Rocket tosses the bench off of them, and the crash gains Mew, Eevee and Pikachu's attention.

"Ow," Misty yelps.

"That hurts," Jen says.

"Hey, what's the big idea!" Brock shouts.

Jessie:

Prepare for trouble! Whatever you do.

But the man interrupts them, "I know, I know. Just give me a second and I'll get you another pot of tea!"

James blows a little steam and says, "I'm afraid that a pot of tea will not prevent trouble from brewing!"

"We don't want tea, old man, we want that Pikachu and the Eevee too!" Jessie says.

"Pikachu may be low on energy. But we're full of it!" James says.

"Yeah!" Meowth says.

Team Rocket soon reveal themselves from their disguises.

"Team Rocket!" Mew says, shocked.

Then Meowth says, "Hey, I got an idea."

"What kind of idea?" Jessie questions.

"We gotta have a huddle," Meowth says.

Then Jessie and James do so.

Meowth says, "Dat old guy, he says he can understand Pokemon talk. Until we met that twoipette and spiky hair twep, I never hoid of a human who can do dat before. did you?"

The realization hits them.

"Not me," Jessie says.

"Not me, until we met the twerpette and the little twerp," James says.

Jessie turns to the man, "Hey, old man! We've never heard of any non-Pokemon who can understand Pokemon besides the two twerps!"

The man stands up.

"Is it true? Can you really speak their language?" James asks.

"I can communicate with all Pokemon, if you don't believe me, ask Pikachu?" The man says, and turns to Pikachu, "Right?"

The man starts to demonstrate by talking to Pikachu.

"I can't hear what they're saying!" Meowth says.

"Is that true, Pikachu?" Mew asks.

Pikachu tries to explain, but is still weary.

"Save your energy, Pikachu," The man says, "It's almost impossible for other people to understand Pokemon language, but some like your trainer can."

Pikachu nods in reply.

Suddenly someone says, "That's true, Simon."

Everyone turns to see Officer Jenny in her squad car.

"I don't believe that you understand it either!" Jenn says.

Brock happily says, feeling flustered, "It's Officer Jenny!"

"The cops!" Team Rocket cries out in fright.

\ Then Jenn says, "I'm placing you under arrest for conducting a Pokemon scam."

"What?!" The group explains in shock.

"For a Pokemon scam?" Mew says, confused.

Mew says, "We've been getting a lot of complaints lately about somebody in this area who swindles money from trainers by claiming to be a Pokemon interpreter. And our old friend, Simon, here, fits the description perfectly!"

"I AM a Pokemon interpreter. I haven't swindled anybody," The man, Simon says.

"Can you prove it Simon?" Jenn questions.

"Ask the Pokemon. They'll tell you," Simon says.

However, Jenny says, "That's the beauty of your little scam, isn't it, Simon?! I could question those Pokemon all day, the Pokemon don't understand human speech or speak it either!"

"Well, that shows how much you know," James says.

Jenny turns to Team Rocket and says, "Say. Haven't I, seen you somewhere before?"

"Oh, you're mistaking us for some other criminals." James says.

"That's right, and we're certainly not members of any horrible gang like Team Rocket!" Jessie says.

Just then, Eevee says, "Eevee Eevee! Eevee Eevee Vee Eevee Vee Vee!" (They're lying! They're a group from Team Rocket who steals Pokemon and tries to kidnap me and Pikachu multiple times!

"Really now?" Simon asks, and talks to Eevee.

Eevee talks to Simon back.

"Uh what are they saying?" Misty asks.

"Oh Eevee is telling Simon about Team Rocket and how they tried to steal both her and Eevee. And think they should be the one arrested. And Simon is surprised by it," Mew says.

"I knew it!" Jenny realizes/

Team Rocket realizes that they've been found out.

"I knew those costumes you're wearing look familiar but I couldn't remember where I…" Jenny says, and takes out a photo.

But when she looks at the photo, she sees that it's one of Butch and Cassidy.

"See ya!" Meowth says.

Then Team Rocket runs off.

"Hey, hold it!" Jessie says.

Just then, four missiles come down and cause a giant smokescreen that blinds Team Rocket, blocking their escape route, Mew and her friends, Simon and Officer Jenny.

"So, they're your accomplices!" Jenn says.

But Simon denies it, "I don't know them!"

"Did you guys do this?" Mew demands.

Jessie says, "Of course not! Why would we launch smoke bombs at ourselves, twerp?!"

"Maybe it was a disgruntled victim!" James says.

Then Meowth says, "Who cares who did it?! Let's get out of here!"

"WOBUFFET!" (And quickly!) Wobbuffet says.

Then Jessie says, "Hurry! Before they see us!"

Then Team Rocket makes their getaway.

"Halt! You're under a…" Jenny shouts.

But stop to see that Team Rocket is gone when the smoke clears.

"They got away!" Jenny says.

"I wouldn't worry about those losers, Officer Jenny, but that Simon got away, too!" Brock says.

"I guess he was just a big faker after all," Misty replies.

However, Mew says in thought, "I wouldn't be too sure.

Just then, Pikachu and Eevee begin to cough.

"Pikachu and Eevee inhaled lots of smoke!" Mew says.

"Amura, and the other Pokemon too," Jen says, seeing the Pokemon coughing.

" Let's get them to the Pokemon Center so Nurse Joy can treat them! Some of you, hop in! It's just down the hill and I'll take you myself," Jenny says.

"Thanks," Mew says.

As the police car and and everyone ride off, Team Rocket comes out of hiding.

"That was a pretty close call," Jessie says.

But we got away," James says.

Soon, Meowth spots something, "Hey, look down dere!"

Team Rocket looks down and sees three men walking with Simon.

"It's the old man!" Jessie says.

"Who are those other men?" James questions

"They must be the ones with the smoke bombs," Jessie suspects.

"Maybe we oughta follow em and see what's goin on," Meowth says.

Later that night, in a cabin elsewhere, Simon meets the man the other three were escorting him to.

The Mob boss says, "So you're the guy who really talks Pokemon? I heard a lot about you."

"And you're the phony interpreters the police are looking for. You should be ashamed of yourselves," Simon says with a frown.

"Come down off of that high horse of yours, pops, you're faking it just like us and we're all in it for the money," The Mob Boss says.

"I only use my interpreting skills to help Pokemon in trouble, but I only charge the trainers so I can afford to keep my rest stop open!" Simon says.

"Well, if you're so honest, I'm sure you wouldn't mind proving it for the police," The mob boss says, leans back and chuckles as Simon worries, "We got this whole interpreting scam figured out, just like you do. We just stick to the basics."

Goon #1: Your Pokémon says you're an awesome trainer!

Goon #2: Could I please have more Pokémon food?

Goon #3: I'm a Pidgey! I like flying!

"We say the stuff we know the trainers want to hear and we take em for all that they're woith," The Mob Boss says.

As the mob boss talks, Team Rocket listens in through the window.

"If they can make money in interpreting, why can't we? We'll just pretend we know what they're saying," Jessie says.

"What would Pokemon say that would be important anyway?" James says.

Meowth however, feels offended, "What's dat supposed to mean?! At least Pokemon speak with honor and integrity."

"My, my, my. What's got your fur up in a ball, Meowth?" Jessie says.

And Meowth continues, "Foist of all, I resent to great length dat dem bums is fakin' de ability ta understand an' translate Pokemon talk into human. At least I took de trouble sos I could loin the understand human talk for real! Dat's cause, unlike humans, Pokemon don't lie."

"But, Meowth, James and I know a certain Pokemon who's one of the biggest little liars ever," Jessie says.

"WOBBUFFET!" (I do, too!) Wobbuffet says.

"Yeah, and who might dat be?" Meowth questions.

Jessie, James and Wobbuffet look at Meowth, as if saying he's whom they're speaking of…"

And says with teary eyes, "I guess I am a liar. But before I loined how to talk human, I was honest and trustwoithy, just like every other Pokemon. Sometimes I wish I was never coised with such intelligence and ability."

Meanwhile, in the cabin, Simon makes his decision, "No! I'll never join your band of thieves!"

"That's an extremely unfortunate decision, because it puts us in a very awkward position. Now dat you know who we are, we can't let you go," The Mob Boss says.

Team Rocket watches everything through the window.

"That old man's in trouble," Jessie says.

And James says, "What should we do?"

"It'd be risky to try and rescue the old geezer from dem mugs, but it'd be woith the risk if he could understand what Pokemon say," Meowth says.

"A human with that talent could make money," Jessie says.

"You're right!" James says.

"Then what are we waiting for?" Jessie says.

With that, Team Rocket sneaks off.

Meanwhile in the Pokemon Center, Pikachu is having his electricity recharged. Eevee recovers after breaking in some of the smoke.

"Just hang in there, Pikachu," Mew says.

Soon, the recharge process is done.

"The recharge was a success. Your Pikachu should be back to normal by morning," Nurse Joy says.

"That's great, Nurse Joy. Thanks!" Mew says.

"You were lucky you got here when you did," Jenny says.

"Yeah, thanks for the lift, Officer Jenny," Mew says.

Jenny salutes and says, "Well, good luck on your journey, folks."

"I wonder if Professor Oak's still awake," Mew says.

And gives Professor Oak a call.

Professor Oak explains, "Humans who can think and understand Pokemon language aren't entirely unheard of, in legends and fairy tales, that is. After all, you and Tomo were able to prove that personally."

"That's true. But I think it helps that Tomo and I have been raised by them," Mew says.

"Indeed, you and Tomo have been proven to be the first people to actually prove it to be true Because it appears there aren't any other real life cases I can find in my text books," Professor Oak says.

"Okay. Thanks anyway professor. Have a goodnight," Mew says.

"Anytime, Mew," Professor Oak says and hangs up the phone.

Mew then says to herself, "Still, I don't really believe Simon is a phony at all. Eevee sure communicated with him very well. Besides, I can tell that his heart is in the right place, and has his own way of communicating with them.

"Maybe, but maybe I was a phony, in a way," Simon says.

Mew turns to see Simon is behind her.

"But in my heart, I know I can understand Pokemon, just like your friend does, and they can understand me!" Simon says.

"I can tell that you are. Sadly, Officer Jenny's looking for you, Simon," Mew says.

"I'm heading to the police station now, but I was worried about your Pikachu's health, so I came here, first," Simon says.

Simon heads to Pikachu and tries to talk to him, and Pikachu responds.

"I'm so glad you're feeling better, you two. That's good news. Very good news," Simon says with a smile.

"Please tell us," Misty replies.

"Can you really understand what the Pokemon say like Mew and Tomo?" Brock asks.

"Not actual words. Sometimes I think I can, but mostly it's just a feeling," Simon says.

"I guess we have our own way to communicate with Pokemon. Tomo and I have similar abilities. I think it also helps that we were raised by Pokemon," Mew says.

"Yeah," Tomo says.

"I can tell that you do, and your heart can really tell how a Pokemon feels," Simon says, "But long ago, there was a day when the Pokemon and I understood each other perfectly."

Soon everyone gathers at the balcony to hear Simon's story as a storm rolls in.

"The skies that day were just like the skies are right now," Simon says.

When was this?" Tomo asks.

"It's been, sixty years but it seems just like yesterday," Simon answers.

He then explains as he remembers the storm, "There was a terrible storm raging, and I was standing in the field, mesmerized by the giant tornado that was headed straight for our little farm house. All of a sudden…

Simon's farmer picks him up and sends him into the cellar.

"I'm going next door to check on the neighbors! Don't come out of here no matter what!" Simon's father says and closes the cellar door.

Young Simon cries out, "Daddy! Daddy, come back!"

Suddenly, lightning flashes and the cellar rocks. Later, Simon is sitting in tears, worried.

"Daddy. Please come back. Please," Young Simon says.

Soon, the sound of a Pokemon is heard, followed by another, and another.

Young Simon becomes confused, "Pokemon voices. Who's there?"

Soon, a Pidgey, a Rattata and an Oddish come out and practically speak.

"You're, Pokemon, but I can understand what you're saying," Simon says.

"Of course," Pidgey says.

Rattata says, "That's right."

"What's your name?" Oddish asks.

Young Simon is surprised, "I can't believe it! I can talk to you, and you can talk to me!"

The three Pokemon approach.

"Whenever you're sad…" Pidgey says.

"Or alone…" Rattata says.

"And you don't have any friends around…" Oddish says.

"Just call. We can talk. Anytime!" Pidgey says.

"It's kinda boring down here," Rattata says.

"But now we have someone new to talk to," Oddish says.

"Yeah! Now we can talk all the time," Simon happily says.

"You'll have to listen, too," Oddish says.

"Pidgey talks a lot," Rattata says.

"I do not!" Pidgey complains.

Simon laughs.

Simon explains, "I forgot all about the storm. I talked to those Pokemon for what seemed like hours. I'll never forget it. It was the most magical day of my life."

Later, Simon is found in the cellar, "Hey, there you are! We've been looking all over for you!"

"Come on, guys! Let's go outside!" Simon says.

However, the Pokemon had gone.

"Guys? Where'd you go?" Simon calls out.

Simon explains, "After the tornado passed, I saw that our farm had been destroyed. And I never saw those three Pokemon again."

The Flashback Ends:

"I've never been able to speak with Pokemon like I did that day and over the years, I sometimes thought I imagined the whole thing. But I never stopped trying to speak with Pokemon again. I've dedicated my whole life to trying to understand and communicate with Pokemon. I believe with all my heart that they know what I'm saying to them and I know what they're saying to me. But maybe all I can really do is fool myself and everyone else," Simon says.

Just then, Pikachu says, "Pika." (Simon.)

Everyone looks and sees Pikachu struggling towards Simon.

"Pikachu!" Jen says.

"You should be resting!" Misty says.

Then Pikachu communicates with Simon

Mew smiles, "Pikachu is saying thank you Simon. And he knows you can understand us."

Simon smiles and nods as Pikachu does so. Suddenly, Pikachu soon spots something above, so does everyone else.

"Magnemite!" Molly says, surprised.

"And Magneton, too!" Misty says.

"Where did they come from?" Mew asks.

"They look like they're getting ready to attack," Brock says.

Soon, the group hears laughter. Simon knows exactly who's laughing as the camera pans down to reveal the mob boss and his goons.

"It's you!" Simon says.

"You got away from us last time, pops, but I guarantee it won't happen again," The boss says.

Goon #1: You're not gonna turn us in to the cops!

Goon #2: You're just as bad as we are, old man!

Goon #3: We're all conmen!

Up above, Team Rocket approaches

"The old guy's with the twoips. And dat gang of goons is talkin to em," Meowth says.

"They are?" Jessie and James question.

"I am not a conman, I'm an interpreter! I do it for the love of Pokemon!" Simon calls out.

"For the love of Pokemon, eh? Well, let's see how you love these Pokemon!" The Mob Boss says.

The Magnemite and Magneton surround Mew, her friends, and Simon and they use their power to drain the electrical power from the Pokemon Center/

"The lights in the Pokemon Center!" Misty explains.

"That's right! They're sucking up all the energy from the Pokemon Center," The Mob Boss says and laughs.

"Stop this!" Nurse Joy shouts, rushing out. "I have dozens of Pokemon being treated in this center and we need electricity!"

"That's your problem! We're not going anywhere till we take care of that old phony!" The Mob Boss says.

"Then you'll have to take care of me, too!" Mew says.

But Simon says, "No, Mew. This is my responsibility. I'll talk to the Magnemite and Magneton.

"But they're Pokemon! They won't understand!" Misty says.

"I think they will," Simon says, "I think they'll understand because what I have to say comes from the heart. I know it. I feel it."

"I agree with Simon. Pokemon can understand people more than they believe," Mew says.

Simon then calls out to the Pokemon, "Please, listen to me Magnemite and Magneton! Unless you stop, the Pokemon Center will be without electricity!"

James notices, "Hey! Shouldn't he be speaking to them in Pokemon?"

"I guess the guy's a fraud after all," Jessie says.

But Meowth says, "Quiet, I wanna hear dis!"

Simon calls out, "Don't think of yourselves, think of the Pokemon that are in this center!"

"Don't waste your breath, pal! I kept them hungry, they're starving for electricity!" The Boss man says.

Simon continues, "I'm the one to blame for this terrible situation, so do whatever you want with me. I deserve to be punished, but please, have pity on the innocent creatures who've been brought here to this Pokemon Center! They're sick and injured, they NEED electricity! Without it, some of them may not survive the night! I beg of you! Consider what they're going through! They're your fellow Pokemon, and they're in danger! Please, please let them be safe!"

"Don't go blaming yourself for this," Mew says.

"Yeah, you're a very good person," Tomo says.

The Magnemite and Magneton finally agree, shocking the mobsters and surprising everyone.

Mob boss is shocked, "Hey, wha...?!"

"They're stopping!" Molly happily says.

The Magnemite and Magneton land on the ground gently.

"Hey! What... What's going on?" The Mob Boss questions in shock.

"I spoke from my heart. And they understood me," Simon says.

Up above, Team Rocket are all teared up over what they see and hear.

"He cares! He really cares!" James happily says.

"I wonder what that feels like," Jessie says.

Meowth happily says, "Maybe dat guy really can't speak in Pokemon language, but he knows how to speak to a Pokémon's heart. And I oughta know cause what he said, it just got straight trough to mine here."

The Mob Boss shouts, "What's the matter with you? Don't listen to him! If you don't suck up that energy, we all collapse from a lack of power! Come on, get up and do what I tell you! Let's go!"

However, the Magnemite refuses.

"I'll show you who's boss!" The Mob Boss angrily says and knocks the Magnemite.

"Stop it!" Simon says.

Pikachu and Eevee act fast and use their electric attack to give the Magnemite and Magneton a jolt, shocking the mobsters/

"Hey! What's going on here?!" The Mob Boss panics.

The Magnemite and Magneton start to levitate again.

"Wow! Pikachu and Eevee re-energized the Magnemite and Magneton with its electricity!" Brock says.

"Please! Wait, let's try to talk this out!" The Mob boss panics.

Mew calls out, "Too late for that! I think the Pokemon wants to teach you a big lesson."

The Magnemite and Magneton to listen and charge up an attack.

Oh, no!" The Mob Boss panics

The mobsters try to run, but the Magnemite and Magneton hit them with a combined Thunderbolt attack. And right at that moment, the police arrive as the Electric Pokemons stop and the crooks fall to the ground.

Officer Jenny comes out of the car and says, "I knew we'd catch up with you con artists! You're all under arrest!"

But Simon walks towards Officer Jenny, "Wait, Officer! I'm responsible for all this. If you're going to arrest them, you should arrest me, too!"

"Simon, Nurse Joy called and she told me the whole story," Jenn says.

Simon nods and holds out his hands to be cuffed, but instead of a pair of handcuffs, Officer Jenny gives him a salute.

She then says, "Thank you for saving the Pokemon Center."

"Huh?" Simon replies in surprise.

"And tell the Pokemon I said hello." Jenny says.

Simon smiles, finally understanding what's going on.

Meanwhile, up above, Team Rocket flies away/

Meowth chuckles, "Everyting woiked out for da best!"

"If we'd been down there, we would've been caught by the police or been caught up in that electric attack," Jessie says.

"At least Team Rocket won't be blasting off this time," James says.

Suddenly, the storm approaches their balloon.

Jessie notices it, "Uh oh. A lightning storm."

"And it looks like it's headed straight for us!" James panics.

"WOBBUFFET!" (That's not good!) Wobbuffet cries out.

Jessie pushes Wobbuffet down, "Get back in your ball!"

"Okay, now, Mr. Storm, just blow away," James begs.

"Please?" Meowth says.

However, a lightning bolt strikes the balloon, destroying it and sending Team Rocket flying.

"Just our luck!" Jessie cries out.

Then Team Rocket screams, "We're blasting off again!"

"WOBBU!" (SHOCKING!) Wobbuffet cries out.

The next day, Mew, her friends, and Simon part ways.

"Well, it was nice to meet you, Pikachu. But after all this, I think I'm giving up Pokemon interpreting," Simon says.

"Don't do that," Mew says.

Simon looks puzzled.

"It's nice to know that there's someone else other than me who can understand Pokemon," Mew says.

"You might be close to a breakthrough," Tomo says.

"You'll never know if you don't try," Misty says.

"Keep working at it and maybe you will," Brock says.

Simon nods and says, "Maybe I will."

And with that, Mew and her friends part ways. It's hard to tell if humans and Pokemon can understand each other. It's hard to say, but there's no doubt that humans and Pokemon do truly communicate. Mew, Pikachu, and Eevee certainly prove that.

Elsewhere, Simon is seen walking along and comes across a Meowth.

"A Meowth," Simon says.

Both Simon and the Meowth start communicating, but the sounds of the Meowth sounds familiar, indicating that it's Meowth of Team Rocket/

"I understand," Meowth says.

Simon is surprised, "You understand?"

"Don't give up, you'll get it," Meowth says.

"You're speaking Pokemon!" Simon says, surprised.

"I'm a Pokemon, ain't I?" Meowth points out.

"I think this may be the big breakthrough Tomo was talking about!" Simon says.

Meowth then runs off.

"Meowth, wait!" Simon calls out and chases after him, but can't keep up.

"That just happened! It really happened!" Simon says, astonished. He then smiles and says, "It was just like when I was a little boy. I guess I really AM a Pokemon Interpreter!"

Up on a ledge, Team Rocket watches.

"Meowth, he believed you!" Jessie says.

"How does it feel to be the good guy instead of the bad guy, Meowth?" James asks.

"It's kinda nice for a change. Meowth!" Meowth answers.
