Episode 95: The Big Balloon Blow-Up!
Today, Mew and her friends are walking through a beautiful meadow that has a wide open space.
But Molly notices something, "Guys, look over there."
Everyone stops to see what Molly notices.
"Hey, what's that thing?" Tomo questions.
What they find is a circle with an X in it.
"Looks like a big X," Brock says.
"What's it doing way out here?" Misty asks.
"Maybe it's a no parking zone or something," Jen questions.
"In a place like this?" Mew questions.
"It could be one of those crop circles UFOs make," Brock says.
Pikachu spots something above, and everyone sees it coming down. Everyone panics, but they find that it was a small something.
"What's this thing?!" Mew asks.
"Sorry!" Someone suddenly calls out.
Everyone looks up to see a boy in a hot air balloon that is made to look like a Fearow, which is actually following the real one.
"Pika Pika. (It's a balloon!) Pikachu says
"A Fearow?" Mew says, surprised.
"And a Fearow balloon!" Brock adds.
"Cool," Tomo replies.
The boy climbs out of the basket when the balloon lands, and says, "I'm real sorry. I didn't hurt anybody, did I?"
The boy had brown-like hair that sticks up, blue eyes, and wore a yellow shirt with a green stripe with orange triangles on it.
"No, but it was pretty close. My name's Mew," Mew says, holding the ball.
Misty says, "Hi, my name's Misty."
"And my name's Brock," Brock says.
"The name's Tomo," Tomo says.
"I'm Jen," Jen says.
"And I'm Molly," Molly replies.
Then the boy introduces himself, "My name's Skyler."
"Nice to meet you, Skyler," Mew says, and hands the ball back.
What is this thing?" Tomo asks.
"Oh, there's no big mystery about this old thing. It's a marker I use for target practice," Skyler says.
"Target practice?!" The group replies in surprise.
"You mean this X is a target?" Mew says, confused.
Soon after, Skyler escorts Mew and her friends to his house.
"Do you do a lot of hot air balloon flying?" Mew asks.
"Uh huh," Skyler answers, "I want to be a professional balloon pilot someday. You know, at first, I only used balloons for flying with Spearow and Fearow to help em train and evolve. But pretty soon, I got really interested in hot air ballooning as a career."
"It must be fun," Misty says.
Skyler then shows the group to the hanger.
Skyler calls out, "I'm back, papa!"
"Yes, and I see you've got some company with you," The man says.
"It's nice to meet you, sir," Mew says.
"Well, it's nice to meet you, too, young man. Welcome to my studio. I'm Tenma," The man says.
"Are you an architect or a sculptor?" Mew asks.
Skyler chuckles, "He's both."
Everyone looks at the wall to see pictures of various hot air balloons. Each of them looks like a Pokemon.
"My father designs and builds hot air balloons that look like Pokemon," Skyler says.
Wow! They're all beautiful!" Misty says.
Then Molly says, "This one looks just like a Phanpy."
"There's one like a Sunflora," Jen says.
"And a Magnmemite," Mew says.
"I like balloons as much as Pokemon," Syler says.
"Yeah, sometimes I wish we had our own balloons so we could get around quicker," Mew says.
Then Syler has an idea, "Hey! There's gonna be a big balloon competition tomorrow and there's still time to enter! Why don't you guys sign up?"
"Sounds like fun," Mew says.
"Yeah. I wanna compete in it," Tomo says.
"Me too," Molly says.
But Brock says, "But how are we gonna compete without a balloon?"
"Yeah, that's right." Mew says.
Even the Pokemon are disappointed.
But Tenma says, "You're in luck. I think there's something in my store room that may interest you."
A bit later, Mew and her friends marvel at something Tenma is referring to, a Pikachu shaped Hot Air Balloon, and another an Eevee Balloon.
"Wow! They're awesome!" Mew says.
"And an Eevee Balloon," Misty says.
"They're yours to use for the competition," Tenma says.
The Pokemon happily cheers.
Soon, the balloons take off. Misty, Mew, and Molly along with Pikachu, Eevee, Sparkle, and Togpei are in the Pikachu Balloon. Brock, Tomo Jen, along with the Pokemon, Skwovet, Meloetta, and Amaura are in the Eevee Balloon.
Tenma explains, "Hot air balloon competitions are more than simple races. You see, the object of this competition, is to be the first team to get to the target and throw a marker as close as possible to the center of the X from a height of at least a thousand feet within the given time limit."
Skyler then demonstrates by throwing his marker down.
"That doesn't look too hard to me," Tomo says.
"We're not too high up, but try it from a thousand feet up and I bet it's not so easy," Brock says.
Then Skyler says, "There's something else about this competition. You get to use your Pokemon to help you make it out to the target." using a walkie talkie.
Hearing that, Mew says, "Hey! I could use my Noctowl to pull the balloon!"
"And Swanna can help too," Misty says.
"Crobat could pull us even faster than Noctowl!" Brock says.
"And Manibuzz can help too," Tomo says.
"Yeah, but it's a lot more complicated than that. Sometimes, balloon pilots call it catching the wind," Skyler says.
"What's catching the wind?" Molly asks.
"The Pokémon can only help pull you into the right air currents," Skyler says.
"And you don't just keep your burner going all the way. You use it when you want to climb, and leave it off when you want to descend," Tenma says.
"You have to use your burner and your Pokemon together to make sure you're at the right place at the right time. Understand?" Syker says.
"I think I understand you," Mew says.
Then Skyler says, "Fearow, let's show Ash how we find a current and catch the wind!"
Fearow agrees and gains altitude, and in a bit, it catches a current and rides the wind.
"Yeah! Looks like Fearow found a nice current for us to ride," Skyler says.
"I'll turn the burner on and see if the balloon can catch it," Tenma says, and does just that.
The balloon soon gains altitude.
"Think we're in for a beautiful ride, son," Tenma says.
"Grab the line, Fearow!" Skyler says and tosses the line.
Then Fearow easily catches it.
"Alright, now let's fly!" Syler calls out.
With Fearow pulling, the balloon flies ahead with the wind.
"Okay, now we're gonna catch the wind!" Mew says, and throws her Pokeball, "Come on out, Noctowl, I choose you!"
Misty then calls out, "Come on out, Swanna!"
"Go Crobat!" Brock calls out.
"You too, Mandibuzz!" Tomo says.
And with that, the four Pokemon come out.
"Here you go, guys, grab the line!" Mew says, and tosses the line.
Noctowl and Swanna catch them easily.
"Crobat! Mandibuzz! Grab the line!" Brock says, and throws the line.
Crobat and Manidbuzz also catch the line.
"Now pull us all up where the Fearow Balloon is, but not to fast," Mew calls out.
With that, the four Pokemon carry the two balloons to where Skyler and his dad are.
"Good job, you don't want to go too fast or you'll wear your Pokemon out. Just find a current and maneuver your balloon so you can ride it," Tenma says.
Mew turns to Misty, "Misty, you want to be in charge of the burner?"
"Sure," Misty says, and activates the burner.
Brock does the same, "I'll handle the burner from our end."
"And I'll navigate," Tomo says.
Soon, the two balloons catch up with the Fearow Balloon and are gently being guided by the wind.
Molly giggles, "This is fun."
"It sure is," Misty says.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket watches from the ground.
"It looks like the twerps are in the Pikachu balloon and the Eevee Balloon!" James says.
"I wonder how they managed to get themselves in some hot air balloons. And I also wonder how long it will be until Meowth disturbs us," Jessie says.
"Hey, I found something! Take a look at dis!" Meowth says, as he runs towards them and shows them a poster, "Dey're having a big hot air balloon competition, and da foist prize is dis new, super duper, hi-tech balloon engine! If we had dis engine, we could make our getaways so fast, nothing could stop us, not even Pikachu and Eevee' Thunderbolt!"
"We certainly can't let an opportunity like this pass us by, James," Jessie says.
"But to get the engine, we'd have to win the contest," James replies.
And winning isn't our strength," Jessie says.
James then says, "That's true, but if we really tried hard, I'm sure we could steal it!"
"That sounds like a winning solution to me," Jessie says.
But Meowth declares, "We ain't stealing it!"
That catches Jessie and James off guard.
Then Meowth says, "We're gonna enter dat competition and win it, fair and square!"
"Just relax and open wide," Jessie says.
James then grabs Meowth, "You must have a fever, because you're obviously delirious!"
Jessie puts a thermometer into Meowth's mouth, "Let me take your temperature."
Meowth soon breaks free, "I don't got no fever! I have to prove myself as a hot air balloon pilot, so I'm gonna enter dat competition, and win it!"
"Meowth's got a temper," James says.
"I wonder if Meowth has distemper," Jessie replies.
That night, in the field where all the balloons are waiting, Jessie and James are sneaking around inside a bush before stopping.
"Meowth HAS to win this competition," Jessie says.
So we'll make sure there's no competition," James says as he and Jessie bring out some tools.
They sneak off and get to work. The next day, the competition is about to begin and our heroes are admiring all of the other balloons.
"The Pokemon balloons are cool!" Mew says.
"I love that Wigglytuff!" Misty says.
"There's an Electrode!" Brock says.
"And look! There's a Hoppip!" Tomo says.
"If I can just win that first prize, my dad and I can build the greats hot air Pokemon balloon ever!" Skyler says.
As Mew and the others watch as a Magmar inflates a balloon)
"You're gonna win that engine! You and your Fearow and your dad seem like a great team, and teamwork's what it takes to win!" Mew says.
"Thanks. I hope you're right," Skyler says.
Meanwhile one of the employees says, "If you haven't registered yet, you can fill out an entry form and complete your paperwork here!"
As the official speaks, Team Rocket fills out their form.
"Don't forget to put my name in, James," Jessie says.
"Yes, and Meowth's, too," James says.
But the contest official says, "You don't have to put down the name of the Pokemon you're using."
But Meowth says, feeling offended, "What do you mean, using? Nobody's using me, pal! I'm da balloon pilot here, these two are just along for da ride!"
"Meowth, that's right," Jessie says.
Meowth's quite an expert in hot air," James says.
The contest official sighs and says, "Okay."
Soon, Mew and her friends are preparing to take off in their balloons.
"We'll try to remember everything you taught us yesterday, Skyler," Mew says.
"I'm sure you guys are gonna do great, guys," Skyler says.
"I know you'll try your best, but you should also try to enjoy the experience. If you do that, I guarantee you'll be a big winner no matter who wins the competition!" Tenma says.
The group agrees.
Soon, Molly spots something, "Hey, guys, look over there."
Everyone looks and sees Team Rocket's balloon.
"A Meowth balloon?" Brock says.
"Oh no," Mew says.
"Don't tell me that THEY'RE in the competition, too!" Tomo says.
And with that the motto appears.
Jessie: (emerges from the basket)
Prepare for trouble, we're going to win it!
James: (pops up beside her)
We can hardly wait to begin it!
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation.
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation.
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love.
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above.
Jessie:
Jessie.
James:
James.
Jessie:
Team Rocket, blasting off in a hot air balloon.
James:
Surrender now, twerps, or prepare to lose to us soon!
Meowth:
Meowth! Dat's right, and I'm da one whose gonna beat ya!
"Why haven't you three learned your lesson yet?! You're Team Loser, so get lost!" Tomo angrily asks.
Meowth then says, "No way! Hot air ballooning happens to be something I'm good at, and today I'm gonna prove it to everybody! No tricks today! Today we're playing strictly on da up and up!" he is so fired up that his eyes are practically on fire, so the aura around him.
That catches Mew and the others by surprise to see Meowth all fired up with it.
"Meowth either has a burning desire, or a bad eye inflammation!" Brock says, surprised.
"I think Meowth is very serious about this!" Mew says, surprised.
"No kidding," Jen says.
"Yeah. Never seen Meowth so determined," Tomo says.
Everyone has to agree that Meowth is very serious about winning this competition.
Soon, the competition is about to be underway.
"Balloonists, get ready!" The announcer says, "Begin!" and fires the gun.
With that, the balloon race begins.
But suddenly, the Electrode balloon rips and collapses, as does another balloon, while one balloon detaches from the basket before it even takes off. One trainer tries to use his Azumarill to steer the balloon in the right direction, but that balloon breaks, too. Another hot air balloon falls apart as some Heracross pull it along. Over at the Hoppip balloon, the Hoppip break loose and fly off.
"NO! Come back!" The trainer cries out.
One after another, the balloons drop out of the sky, and our heroes suspect foul play.
"Something funny's going on around here," Mew says.
"Yeah. All the balloons are falling apart," Tomo says.
"Wow, a lot of balloons dropped our already!" Brock says.
"Yeah, I never thought that hot air ballooning could be so dangerous," Jen says.
Mew then hears the walkie talkie. She picks it up and answers, "Go."
"Ash, did you see what happened to all the other balloons? It can't just be a coincidence!" Skyler says.
Yeah, I know," Mew says.
Meanwhile, Skyler, Tenma and Fearow pull ahead of the Blissey balloon.
Skyler turns to his dad, "Maybe you'd better talk to the others.
Tenma then answers through the talkie, "Mew, it's very important that you and your friends check your equipment immediately! Is anything wrong with your burner?"
Brock tests the burner, "The burner works okay."
"Ours too," Misty says.
Mew checks the balloon, "And as far as I can see, the basket and the ropes and the balloon all seem fine."
"Same with our balloon," Tomo says.
"Our balloon checks out okay, but we'll be careful," Mew says.
Brock then answers, "Our's checked out, but we'll be extra careful.
Suddenly, they hear Jessie's voice, "Coming through!"
Everyone looks and sees Team Rocket flying in.
"Cheaters! It was you who sabotaged those balloons!" Tomo calls out.
Meowth defends himself, "Dat's a lie! We're doing everything strictly by da book here! Right, Jessie?! Right, James?!"
Jessie and James start acting sheepish.
"I don't believe it!" Misty says.
"I done a lot of lying and cheating in my day, but today, I'm on de up and up!" Meowth says, and pulls on the burner.
Team Rocket soon gains altitude.
"Some of dem other teams gotta rely on Pokemon to move dere balloons around," Meowth says.
James whispers, "Correct me if I'm wrong, but Meowth is a Pokemon, right?"
Jessie whispers, "And Meowth is moving our balloon."
James whispers, "Doesn't that mean that we're relying on a Pokemon to move our balloon, too?"
"Hey, what's all da whispering about?" Meowth questions, that catches their attention.
And Meowth say, "Don't worry, I'm gonna win dat prize using skill and skill alone."
Meanwhile, the others gain more altitude
"I don't care if we lose, but we can't let Team Rocket win," Mew says.
Up ahead, Mewoth continues to pilot the balloon, "Da key to hot air ballooning is caring for your balloon properly, and if dose other team dat dropped out woulda kept dere balloons in shape, one of dem might be in the lead now."
Jessie turns to James, "Well, our plan is working perfectly, James.
"And we're finally out of sight of the competition command center. Shall we move on to stage two of our plan?" James says.
Meowth turns to the teammates, "What plan are you talking about dere, guys?"
"Our secret plan to get our hands on that engine," Jessie says.
"The secret's out," James says, getting out his Pokeball. Then calls out, "Come out, Weezing, I choose you! Go!"
Weezing comes out of the pokeball.
Then James commands, "Use your Smog attack!"
"What's going on?!" Meowth asks in shock.
With that, Weezing launches the attack, blinding the rest of the competition.
"You see? I knew they'd show their true colors!" Mew calls out.
'Yeah! They must've been the ones who sabotaged the other balloons!" Brock says.
They never change!" Misty says.
"That's right!" Tomo says.
Jen and Molly nod their heads in agreement.
Soon, three more balloons fall out while The Pikachu and Eevee Balloon gail altitude.
"How could you do such a thing?! This isn't a battle, it's a competition!" Tenma calls out.
Meowth struggles to break free from James' grip, "Hey, what are you trying to do?! Dat's against da rules! We're gonna get disqualified!"
"Say, what's gotten into you, Meowth?" Jessie asks.
"Yes, what's the big deal, Meowth?" James questions, "Breaking the rules is standard operating procedure for Team Rocket."
Jessie gets out her Pokeball, "This is the easy way to get rid of the competition."
"NO!" Meowth screams in anger.
Jessie calls out, "Alright, Arbok, use your Poison Sting attack to shoot those balloons down! Go!"
Arbok comes out and fires.
Mew cries out, "Noctowl! Swanna! Look out for those stingers!"
"Fearow, pull us out of the way!" Skyler calls out.
"Crobat! Noctowl! You too!" Tomo calls out.
Skyler, Mew, and Brock's balloon manage to evade the oncoming attack, but the balloon behind them isn't lucky and falls out of the sky.
Seeing the even, Jessie and James cheer.
"Yay! Yay!" Jessie cheers. (x2)
"Cheating makes competing fun!" James says.
Meowth however reaches his limits, "Dat's enough!"
Meowth proceeds to Scratch his teammates.
Jessie angrily says, "You have some nerve, Meowth! What are you attacking us for?! We're trying to help you win!"
"Make up your mind, Meowth! Do you want to be a winner or a loser?!" James says.
But Meowth says, "I may be a loser, but I still go my pride! I want to prove to myself that I can win something without cheating!"
"If we don't cheat, do you think Meowth has a chance to win?" Jessie questions.
"About one chance in a billion," James says.
"We want to win just as much as you do," Jessie says.
And with that, Jessie and James start attacking Meowth while he protests.
"Sorry, Meowth. You'll have to find self-esteem elsewhere," Jessie says.
It's revealed that they tied him up.
"Untie me, now!" Meowth cries out. And looks up to spot storm clouds above, "Does are storm clouds! If we we get blown off course, we'll never finish and we'll lose the whole competition! Untie dese ropes, I gotta take command!"
Jessie turns to James, "What do you think, James? Maybe we are in trouble."
"No need, Jessie. I planned ahead," James says and pulls out a remote and activates something, "We'll fly through the clouds with Team Rocket power!"
And soon, rockets come out under the basket and wings come out the sides.
"Dat's against da rules! Just untie me!" Meowth cries out in protest.
Jessie turns to James, "Rules are for fools, Meowth. You want to win that engine, don't you?"
"The judges won't even know we cheated," James says.
"First prize, here we come!" Jessie cheers.
"Get ready to rocket," James says.
With the press of a button, the rockets start up and send Team Rocket soaring.
"Prepare for victory!" Jessie cheers.
Meowth cries out, "NO!"
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Jessie and James say.
Meanwhile, the remaining three Balloons, The Fearow, Pikachu, and Eevee are flying through the storm, trying to find their way out.
On the radio, Tenma says, "Just stay calm and you'll get through. Just hold to your positions and steady the basket."
"Our flame's getting real low!" Mew says.
Tenma then says, "Whatever you do, don't let the burner go out! If you lose too much altitude, you'll hit the mountains!"
Meanwhile, Skyler's Fearow keeps trying its hardest to ride the storm.
"Hang in there, Fearow!" Syler calls out.
(All the balloons struggle to stay together. Back in Pikachu balloon, the burner starts sparking electrical bolts
Misty notices, "Guys! Look, something's going wrong with the burner!"
Finally, the burner cuts off.
"The burner's completely gone," Mew says.
"One of Arbok's stingers must've damaged it somehow!" Molly says.
The balloon starts losing altitude.
Tenma asks on the radio, "What's the matter, Mew? You're falling!"
"Our burner's broken! The flame went out!" Mew says.
"You gotta do something fast! If one of you has a fire Pokemon, use it to replace the burner and heat the air like the Magmar in that other balloon did!" Tenma says.
"I can use Cyndaquil and Pansear," Mew says.
Mew then calls out Cyndaquil and Pansear comes out of the Pokeball.
Mew calls you, "Cyndaquil, Pansear, quick, use your Flamethrower to heat up the balloon!
Both Pokemon agree and do so, but the balloon keeps losing altitude.
"Hang in there!" Misty calls out.
"Eevee!" (Hurry!) Eevee cries out.
"Pika!" (Come on!) Pikachu calls out.
"Pika Pi!" (You can do it!) Sparkle calls out.
The balloon keeps dropping, getting closer to a mountain
"You can do it!" Molly calls out.
The balloon nears the mountain.
Mew calls out, "Cyndaquil, Pansear, maximum power!"
With all the power Cyndaquil and Pansear can muster, the balloon gains altitude once more.
"We made it! You saved us!" Mew cheers.
Even the Pokemon are happy.
Soon, the storm clouds pass, and Team Rocket emerges.
"The storm's behind us and we're ahead," James says.
"We'll have to be very humble and overwhelmed when we accept the prize," Jessie says.
Soon, Mew and the others burst through the clouds.
"Look, the twerps and that kid in the Fearow balloon are still on our tail," Jessie says.
"And it looks like one of the twerps' balloons has a brand new burner!" James says.
"Dat's Cyndaquil and Pansear! Dey're flying on Poke-power," Meowth says to see it in astonishment.
"What's gotten into you, Meowth?! Who's side are you on?! There's or ours?!" Jessie demands in anger.
James gets out the remote, "I'll fix them!"
With the press of a button, the rockets turn around and reveal what appear to be Gatling guns.
"Twerp target practice time," James says.
"No, wait!" Meowth cries out.
But James presses the button, "Oh, look, my thumb slipped."
From the rockets, missiles launch.
Misty cries out, "Guys, look out!"
"Incoming!" Jen cries out.
The missile explode all around our heroes, two of which knocks Cyndaquil away from the burner
"I'll save you, Cyndaquil!" Mew says.
Mew climbs up and manages to catch Cyndaquil in time.
"Nice catch, huh, Cyndaquil?" Mew says.
Another missile explosion knocks them both into the basket.
"Oh no!" Misty and Molly cry out.
"Eevee!" (Mew!) Eevee cries out.
"I'm alright," Mew says, "Cyndaquil, get up and use your Flamethrower to help Pansear.!
Cyndaquil agrees and does so, but Mew's left shoulder is revealed to be slightly injured.
Seeing Mew hurt, Pikachu and Eevee have just had it.
"Pika." (That's it.) Pikachu says.
"Eevee Eevee!" (Team Rocket's finished!)
Pikachunand Eevee get up on the basket and start sparking.
"Well, it looks like our friends, Pikachu and Eevee, are about to hit us with one of its electric attacks again," Jessie says.
James presses the button and the balloon flies off.
"Pikachu and Eevee can't shock us from this far away," James says.
"Catch us if you can!" Jessie taunts.
Swanna turns to Noctowl, "Swanna Swanna Swanna!" (Noctowl, help Pikachu and Eevee go after them! I'll pull the balloon!)
Noctowl agrees. Noctowl lets go of the line and flies to the balloon. Noctowl explains Swanna's idea, allowing Pikachu and Eevee to hop on his back. Noctowl then flies after the,
"Go get them!" Mew says.
"Teach them a lesson!" Misty says.
Noctowl proceeds to follow Team Rocket and closes in on them
"Oh, no! They ARE coming to catch us!" Jessie says.
But James says, "No problem, Jess. We'll get them before they get us."
James reactivates the mini missiles, causing Noctowl to take evasive actions.
Tenma turns to Skyler, "Skyler, maybe Fearow can help them get through!"
"Right!" Syler says and calls out, "Fearow, release the line!"
Fearow does so and joins the chase.
Tomo calls out, "Mandibuzz, help Noctowl and the others."
Mandibuzz does so and follow Fearow
Skyler calls out, "Fearow, use your Drill Peck attack to destroy that rocket launcher!"
"Mandibuzz, help Fearow destroy the missiles with Air Slash!" Tomo calls out.
Mandibuzz launches the attack to destroy the missile while Fearow closes in and destroys the launcher.
Deadpan, Jessie says, "Our missiles seem to be missing something."
"In a moment, I have a feeling we'll be missing," James says with the same expression."
"We'll also be missing the award ceremony," Meowth says.
"WOBUFFET!" (We deserve it!) Wobbuffet says.
Noctowl soon gets close enough.
"Pika," (Steady.) Pikachu says.
"Eevee," (We're just about there.) Eevee says.
Mew then calls out, "Okay, Pikachu, Eevee, use your Thunderbolt!"
Both Pikachu and Eevee launch the attack, destroying the balloon and sending Team Rocket flying.
Team Rocket cries out, "We're blasting off again!"
"WOBBU!" (Help me!) Wobbuffet cries out.
"Nice work, Pikachu! You too, Eevee!" Mew calls out.
"You, too, Noctowl!" Misty says.
Soon, the groups are at the target zone.
"Get ready to throw your markers, guys! We're gonna have to hurry! We're almost at the time limit! We can't wait! We'll have to throw them from here! Over!" Skyler says.
"Okay! I copy!" Mew says.
"Alright, got it!" Brock says.
Down on the ground, the spectators are watching and waiting
"Here goes! Hit that target, marker!" Mew says, and throws her marker.
