Episode 96: The Screen Actor's Guilt

Mew and her friends are still making their way to Olivine City to reach the gym, every town they take, they get closer. As they walk down the sidewalk in the town, they hear the sound of loud screaming.

"Hey, what's that?" Mew asks, as she and the others turn their left.

They look to see a mob of girls, screaming and running in their direction.

Brock soon gets excited, "This is great! Somebody must've told all the girls in town that I was coming! Look at how happy they are to see me!"

All the girls run past them however.

"They must be so happy they forgot to stop," Misty says.

"Wait for me!" Brock cries out and chases after them.

"Brock, wait for us!" Mew calls out and chases after them.

Just then, a stranger comes running out of the alley holding a bundle

"Hey, kid," The voice of a man says.

The strange's sudden appearance startles the group.

"You gotta do me a favor and hold on to this for me," The man says, and presents the bundle.

Mew takes the bundle as the stranger hears the girls and looks back to see them running down the street behind him

"I gotta run. Uh, just wait here. I'll be back in a little while!" The man says and runs off.

"Wait, I don't even...!" Mew calls out.

"Thanks!" The stranger says as he runs into another alley, but loses his hat.

"I wonder what that guy's problem is," Misty says.

"Yeah," Brock says.

"And what was he in such a big rush to get rid of?" Tomo asks.

"Actually he wanted me to hold on to it," Mew confirms.

"What is it?" Jen asks.

"I don't know," Mew answers.

She then opens the bundle to reveal a Pokemon inside, a Smoochum, like the one Mew has.

Misty happily says, "Wow! What an adorable Pokemon!"

"It's so cute!" Molly says.

"Yeah, it sure is," Jen says.

"It's a Smoochum. And she sure is cute," Mew says.

Smoochum then gives Mew a kiss. She then gives Misty a kiss. Then she gives Molly, Jen, Tomo, and even Brock a kiss. Smoochum tries to give Pikachu a kiss, which urges him to try to make a break for it before Smoochum blocks his way.

"She sure is sweet," Mew says, and gets out her Pokedex.

Dexter says, "Smoochum, the Kiss Pokemon, the pre-evolved form of Jynx. And Ice and Psychic Type. This sweet natured Pokemon has sensitive lips which it uses to explore and examine with."

And then Smoochum tries to kiss Pikachu, and succeeds.

"Smoochum uses its kisses like other Pokemon and humans use touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing," Brock says.

The Smoochum then picks up and puts the hat the stranger dropped on its head before it bumps into Brock due to being unable to see.

"I like this hat, too," Brock says, and puts the hat on.

But then the mob of fangirls come screaming and running, elbowing our heroes while crowding Brock, causing Misty to drop Togepi.

"Toge…" Misty calls out.

The Pokemon, including Smoochum are standing in bafflement while a metal-looking Skiploom comes in from behind. Smoochum and Togepi notice and chase after it, and Pikachu Eevee, and others hurry after them.

"Take it easy, ladies. One at a time," Brock says, and takes off the hat, "There's plenty of Brock for everybody!"

The girls stop their screaming when they realize they didn't find their target, revealed to be named Brad, and quickly disperse

"Hey!" Brock cries out.

"Those girls were pretty excited about somebody," Misty says.

"Yeah, I wonder who this Brad guy is," Tomo says.

Jen looks up, and says, "Hey, look up there!"

Everyone looks up at a screen.

"Looks like a movie preview," Misty says.

Soon, Mew and the others see the stranger they saw earlier on the screen, shocking them all.

"That's the guy who gave me the Smoochum!" Mew says, shocked.

On the screen, the movie narrator says, "He's more electrifying than a Zapdos, he's cooler than an Articuno, and he's hotter than a smoldering Moltres! Now, the golden boy of the silver screen is back! Watch for Brad Van Darn in: Ultra Maximum! Coming soon to a theater near you."

In the trailer, Brad says, "I'll take you to the Ultra Maximum."

"He doesn't act like a movie star in person…" Tomo says

"He doesn't act like a person in the movies!" Brock says.

"I saw him before. I didn't realize he was a movie star," Mew says.

Misty soon looks around, "Guys, where's Togepi? And Sparkle?"

Brock soon notices, "Hey, Smoochum's gone, too."

"And Pikachu and Eevee are not here, either!" Mew says.

"Not even Meloeeta and Skwovet," Tomo says.

"Or Amura," Jen adds.

Meanwhile, Togepi and Smoochum keep following the metallic-Skiploom with Pikachu and the other Pokemon following behind them. They soon enter an alley, unaware that the tail has a camera inside and that Team Rocket is watching through the tail camera.

"Excellent," Jessie says.

"Our Robo-Skiploom is working like a charm," James says

"Yeah, but I wonder who dat Smoochum belongs to," Meowth adds.

"In about five seconds, it's going to belong to us!" Jessie says

The robotic Pokemon goes through a hole. Smoochum and Togepi easily follow after it.

"Pika!" (Hold up!) Sparkle calls out and gets stuck in the hole.

Seeing Sparkle stuck, Eevee and the others try to pull him out, but he's really stuck.

Jessie notices it, "Having a little problem getting through, Pikachu Sparkle? I suppose we should've made a bigger hole, cause you're a whole lot bigger, aren't you, Sparkle?"

Seeing them, Sparkle cries out, "Pikachu! PIPI-KACHU! (Jessie! And Team Rocket!)

Jessie kneels to Sparkle, "It's such a shame that you're stuck. Since we only see part of you, we're just getting a peek at you. Peek at you, Pikachu! Get it?"

"Yes," James says

"Dat's a pretty funny joke, Jessie," Meowth says.

"True, Meowth, but once those heroes discover that their Pokemon are gone, the joke's going to be on them," Jessie says.

Sparkle starts sparking as Team Rocket laughs before Jessie grabs him with rubber gloves.

"Come, my little Sparkle," Jessie says and pulls Sparkle out of the hole, "I have to hand it to that twerpy trainer of yours, Sparkle, she did raise an awfully cute bundle of energy, didn't she?

Sparkle tries shocking Jessie, but Jessie just laughs. Pikachu, Eevee, and the others witness on what's happening.

"Rubber gloves don't conduct electricity!" Jessie says, and then shoves Sparkle in the sack, "Now all we have to do is get you inside this shock proof sack, and, at long last, we've captured our Pikachu!"

"Yes, and don't forget, Jessie, we've got these two, too!"

Smoochum proceeds to wink at Jessie.

Jessie squeals, "This Smoochum has to be the cutest little Pokemon I've ever seen in my…" and Smoochum begins kissing Jessie, making her more excited, "What a perfectly adorable Pokemon. How bout another smooch, Smoochum, sweetie?"

"Hold it, Smoochum!" Mew calls out.

Team Rocket soon notices Mew and the others standing before them.

"I wouldn't get my lips near Team Rocket if I were you!" Mew says.

"They don't deserve kissing, they deserve dissing!" Misty says.

"Insult us all you want, heroes, but when all is said and done, we're the winners!" Jessie says.

"Yeah, you can have all the gag lines, but we got Sparkle Pikachu for a change!" Meowth says.

"That's what you think! Bayleef, Totodile, I choose you!" Mew calls out, and both Pokemon are released.

Mew calls out, "Bayleef, use your Razor Leaf to cut Pikachu out of that bag!"

Bayleef does so, and Sparkle is soon freed.

"Use your Water Gun, Totodile!" Mew calls out.

Totodile uses the attack to hit James in the face, freeing Togepi and Smoochum

"Bayleef, use your Vine Whip to catch Smoochum and Togepi before Team Rocket grabs em again!" Mew calls out.

Buleef does so.

"Okay, Robo-Skiploom, use your mecha-Tackle!" Meowth says and controls the robot, "Go!"

The robot charges in.

"Totodile, knock that thing back with a Water Gun blast!" Mew calls out.

Totodile does so, soaking Team Rocket in the process.

"Now that they're all wet, this'd be a great time for an electric attack! Use your Thunderbolt, Pikachu! You too, Eevee!"

From outside of the hole, Pikachu and Eevee hear Mew, and use the Thunderbolt attack and causes the robotic Skiploom to explode, sending Team Rocket flying.

"Thanks everybody, you were great!" Mew says.

"Are you okay and Togepi okay, Sparkle?" Mew asks.

Both Mew and Misty pick up the young Pokemon.

"How about you, Smoochum? Are you alright?" Mew asks.

Then Smoochum gives Mew a kiss.

Mew giggles, "I take that as a yes."

Meanwhile, Brad is in the city searching for Mew and the others.

"I left Smoochum with those people right here. Where can they be? I told you I was coming back!" Brock says. Then calls out, "Where are you?!"

Soon, the fangirls spot him.

"Oh, no!" Brad panics

Suddenly, a limo pulls up and the driver rolls down the window.

The man says, "I warned you about roaming the streets. If they get to you, it'll be a mob scene. Get in, let's go."

"Yeah, I guess you're right. Sorry," Brad says.

Brad gets in and the limo drives off. Meanwhile, Mew and the others are walking down the street.

"Wonder why Brad gave me this Smoochum," Mew says.

Soon, Brad's limo drives by and Smoochum sees him in the back.

Smoochum calls out, "Smoochum Smoochum!" (Brad! Brad!)

"I bet Smoochum saw Brad go by in that car," Misty says.

"That's actually who she saw," Mew says.

"And is calling out to him," Tomo

"A big star would have a limousine," Brock says.

"Yeah," Jen says.

Then Mew says, "Come on, let's follow it!"

Mew then follows where the limo is going, and soon, they see a long line of fans outside the local arena.

"Looks like Brad's having some kind of big stage show here tonight," Mew says.

"He must be inside the arena already," Jen says.

Then Molly turns to Mew, "What do you think we should do now, Mew?"

"If we can find a way to get inside that place, we can find a way to find him," Mew says.

Meanwhile in the dressing room, Brad says in distress, "I'm sorry, but you'll have to tell them I just can't do it. I just can't do the show today. Cancel it."

But the man says, "We can't cancel it. We signed a contract, remember?"

"Well, then, you do the show because I'm too worried about Smoochum! Okay?" Brad says.

But the man says, "What do you think would happen to your box office if people found out that cool mister action star was more concerned about his Smoochum than he is about his fans? You want to throw your whole career away for some Pokemon?"

"Maybe," Brad says.

Then the man says, "It's time for you to get rid of that Smoochum and get a different Pokemon."

But Brad refuses, "No way! I'll never do that!"

And the man continues, "I'm only trying to look out for you. Imagine how far you would go if you had a Charizard or a Houndoom. They'd match the tough image we've created for you. Get rid of Smoochum before it wrecks everything you've worked for."

But Brad says, "No! The only reason I'm a star is because Smoochum believed in me!"

Brad starts to think back to before he was a star as he explains, "Whether I was washing dishes to get free meals, or getting yelled at by my dance instructor. Smoochum stuck with me, encouraged me, made me believe in myself." and then says, "Smoochum would never leave me, and I'll never leave Smoochum!"

But the agent says, "If you stick with that Smoochum, you could both be back washing dishes and scrounging around for free meals!"

Down on the ground, Mew and her friends are trying to put their plan into motion.

"I don't know, Mew. Climbing into this tree to get in one of those windows is really risky," Misty says, unsure.

"Don't worry, Misty. I used to climb bigger trees than this when I was little. Plus, I've been raised in the forest," Mew says.

Mew trunks to Smoochum, "Okay, Smoochum, hang on tight."

"Smooch," (Okay.) Smoochum says.

In the room, Brad ends up hearing her, "Hey, I think I just heard Smoochum."

"I doubt it," The man says.

He then looks outside to see Mew climbing up the tree with Smoochum on her back.

He then pulls the curtains back, "Just some screaming fans out there. Listen, Brad, I'll try to track Smoochum down myself. You just relax and get ready for the show. Come on, let's go down to the green room."

They both exit

"Hey! Come back here!" Mew calls out. "Hey!"

Later, the crowds pile into the dome.

And ends up running into the man, who is named Vitzo.

"So, we wanted to see him so we could give him back his Smoochum," Mew says.

But Vitzo says, "Keep it, kid. It's yours. Brad doesn't want Smoochum back anyway."

Everyone is shocked. However, Mew is looking suspicious.

"Did Brad say he didn't want it back?" Mew questions

"Well, I, uh…" Vitzo says nervously.

Brad then comes out, "Vitzo... "And spots Smoochum, "It's Smoochum! Out of the way!" and pushes Vitzo aside, "I came back and looked all over for you guys, but I couldn't find you anywhere! There's my Smoochy!"

Trainer and Pokémon happily embrace.

"Awwww!" The girls happily say.

But then Vitzo says, "Brad, we can't let your fans see you cuddling with a kissing Pokémon! Come on, get inside."

Everyone heads inside as Team Rocket watches from afar.

"I can see the twerps inside the arena," James says.

"And the Smoochum?" Jessie asks.

"Smoochum's dere, too," Meowth says.

Jessie squeals with joy, "I just want to hold it and mother it and smother it with kisses!"

"I know it don't make sense, but it's more distoibing to see Jessie act like dis den when she's acting mean and nasty," Meowth says.

In the dressing room, Brad is feeding his Smoochum

"I made my extra special Smoochy soup for you. Open wide," Brad says happily.

Smoochum does so and eats.

"Well, Smoochykins, how is it?" Brad asks.

Smoochum happily answers, "Smoochum!" (Yummy!)

"I made a giant pot, so eat it up," Brad says.

"Wow, Brad sure does spoil that Smoochum, doesn't he?" Misty says

"Yeah, he's a tough guy in public, but he's a cream puff in person," Brock says.

"Nothing wrong with having a sensitive side," Mew says.

"I think he's a great trainer," Jen says.

"He really cares about his Smoochum," Tomo says.

"Yeah," Molly happily says.

Vitzo angrily bangs on the table, "If word of this leaks out, I'll sue you AND your Pokémon! Why didn't I do something easy like managing a boy band!"

"Calm down, we're not going to tell anyone. I mean, I don't think it really matters if Brad has this kind of Pokemon," Mew says.

But Vitzo ignores her and turns to Brad, "Brad, it's getting close to curtain. Go up to makeup and wardrobe and get ready for the show."

"I'm going," Brad says.

Then turns to Mew and the others, "Would you guys mind hanging around and playing with Smoochy until I get back?"

"No problem," Mew says, and takes out her Pokeball, "I can even let her play with mine."

The Pokeball opens and Mew's Smoochum comes out.

Both Smoochum notice and begin to talk to one another with glee.

Brad turns to Smoochum, "I'll be back in a while, so you stay here, okay, Smoochy-oochy?"

"Smoochum Smoochum," (Okay, bye Brad, and goodluck!)

Then Brad heads out.

Meanwhile, Jessie and James are seen to have tied up some security guards and stolen their uniforms before locking them in a locker.

"Well, that wasn't too difficult," Jessie says.

"We caught them off-guard," James says.

Vitzo soon approaches, "I've been looking for you."

Jessie and James freeze up.

"Oh, what for?" Jessie asks.

Then Vitzo says, "I want you to go into the green room, grab that Smoochum and the kids that are in there and throw them out of the building."

"Yes, sir," Jessie and James say.

Back in the green room, the Pokemon are playing and having fun together when Jessie and James barge in

"Okay, everybody out!" Jessie says.

"We have orders to escort you off the premises on the double!" James says.

"What for?" Jen asks.

"Yeah, Brad asked us to stay here until he got back," Misty says.

"Oh, yeah? Well, that's changed," James says.

"Come on, let's go," Jessie says.

Everyone is soon taken backstage.

"Hey, where are we?" Molly asks.

"This doesn't look like the exit," Brock says.

"This looks like the backstage area!" Jen adds.

But Jessie says, "Just keep quiet and keep walking."

They soon stop.

"Here we are," Jessie says.

"Isn't this the stage?" Mew replies.

"It sure is," Jessie says.

And James says, "And it's showtime!"

Spotlights come on around the group and Meowth pulls a cord, snaring some of the gang in a net while both Smoochum falls through.

"They ain't security guards!" Mew says.

And with that, Team Rocket begins the motto.

Jessie:

Prepare for trouble, we've got you now!

James:

We'll take all those Pokémon and then take a bow!

Jessie:

To protect the world from devastation!

James:

To unite all people's within our nation!

Jessie:

To denounce the evils of truth and love!

James:

To extend our reach to the stars above!

Jessie (removing his disguise):

Jessie!

James (removing his disguise):

James!

Jessie:

We're Team Rocket, blasting off at the speed of light!

James:

Surrender now, or prepare to fight, fight, fight!

Meowth:

Meowth, dat's right!

"It's Team Rocket!" Molly says.

Tomo angrily says, "Not them again!"

"We should've known it!" Mew says.

"I thought Mew, Pikachu, and Eevee sent you flying!" Jen says.

Nisyt shouts, "Hey, let us down from here!"

"Don't worry, we will," Meowth says.

"And then, for a little fun, we'll pull you right back up again!" James says.

Meowth and James do so, making those caught in the net dizzy.

"I'm doing the ho-ing!" James says.

"But dey're gonna do da heaving!" Meowth says.

The net goes up and down over and over.

"I just adore da theater," Meowth says.

Meanwhile, Brad returns to his room to find everyone gone and Vitzo standing in the middle of it.

"Vitzo, where's Smoochum and those people?" Brad asks

"They're gone, forget em!" Vitzo says.

"And I bet you arranged that, didn't you?!" Brad says, glaring at him.

He turns and calls out, "Smoochum!" And runs off to find Smoochum.

"Brad, wait! Come back!" Vitzo calls out.

Meanwhile, Jessie has both Smoochum cornered while holding a cage. Mew's Smoochum is trying to protect Brad's Smoochum.

"Now, there's nothing to be afraid of, Smoochy-woochy, just come to Jessie-wessie," Jessie says.

Both Smoochum backs up.

"Or I'll loose my temper-wemper," Jessie adds.

"Hey, I wonder what dis one's for," Meowth says, and pulls the cord and pull up the curtains by mistake.

And soon, it reveals the audience full of people, especially girls. Jessie just rolls with it as the crowd cheers.

Jessie picks up both Smoochum, "Oh, my sweet Smoochum! You finally belong to me, and I shall never let you go."

The crowd quickly turns on Jessie and chants for Brad.

"What do you want with some manufactured boy toy when you can see me?!" Jessie shouts.

Both Smoochum tries to escape from Jessie's grasp.

Backstage, Vitzo tries to stop Brad, "You're acting crazy! Forget Smoochum! You'll lose all your fans!"

"So what if I do?" Brad angrily says, "My Smoochum."

Suddenly, he hears Smoochum's call, "Smoochum!" (Brad, help me!"

"That's my Smoochum!" Brad says, and runs off to the stage.

Vitzo calls out, "Brad, no!"

Soon, Brad reaches the stage as he calls out.

The crowd erupts as Brad comes on stage.

"Brad, watch out!" Molly calls out.

"What is this?" Brad asks.

"They're from Team Rocket and they're dangerous!" Mew says.

"I don't care!" Brad says.

"Oh really?" Jessie says.

"This is Team Rocket's stage, so why don't you go back to the movies?!" James replies.

Brad then demands, "Let these kids go and give back my and Mew's Smoochum, or you'll be sorry!"

James calls out, "Go, Weezing!"

"Wobbuffet!" Jessie calls out.

Both Pokemon come out of the Pokeballs. The crowd cheers for Brad and Wobbuffet bashfully takes it in.

"On second thought, I'll use an understudy," Jessie says, and recalls Wobbuffet.

James calls out, "Weezing, stop them with your Tackle!"

Weezing charges in, but Brad easily leaps over it as the crowd roars

"Arbok, use your Poison Sting on those fools before they take my Smoochum away!" Jessie calls out.

Arbok comes out and fires the attack, but Brad easily dodges. All the girls adore him. Like "He's Dreamy…" "And flexible too…"

Even Mew and the others are impressed.

"Wow, look at him go," Tomo says.

"He's amazing out there," Mew says.

"And he's very heroic trying to rescue Smoochum," Misty adds.

Vitzo shouts, "Brad, get off that stage or your fans will find out what you're really like."

Brad lands as Weezing comes in from behind, ready to strike.

"Hurry! Tackle him from behind, Weezing!" James calls out.

Weezing charges, but Brad leapfrogs over it while Weezing ends up hitting Jessie, causing Smoochum to go flying.

"Smoochum!" Brad cries out.

Brad leaps for the save and catches both Smoochum as the crowd erupts.

"That was a close one, huh, Smoochy?" Brad asks.

Mew's Smoochum jumps off of Brad's arms, allowing Brad and his Smoochum to embrace and hug each other.

"You know, you mean everything to me," Brad says.

Mew's Smoochum smiles, so does Mew and her friends.

All of the fans are surprised at Brad's behavior.

"It's all over. Now I'll have to get a real job!" Vitzo says, upset.

Just then, Jessie says, "Arbok, use a Headbutt attack on him!"

Arbok charges in.

Mew calls out, "Brad, it's coming straight at you!"

Hearing the warning, Brad and Mew's Smoochum leap up while Arbok's attack hits Meowth and causes him to let the rest of the gang go.

"Now it's time for an extra special guest star!" Mew says, and throws her Pokeball, "Bayleef, go!"

And with that, Bayleef comes out.

Mew calls out, "Bayleef, Razor Leaf attack!"

Bayleef launches the attack and Team Rocket frantically dodges every leaf while Arbok comes in from behind with a Headbutt.

Mew then calls out, "Smoochum, use Ice Punch!"

Smoochum then performs the attack, freezing Arbok and sending it crashing at Team Rocket, breaking the ice.

"Arbok got punched!"" Jessie cries.

Then James says, "Quick, Weezing, use your Smokescreen!"

Weezing does so, blinding everyone.

"This is dangerous! If we don't do something, the audience could get hurt!" Brad says.

Then Mew says, "Noctowl can handle this, Brad!" She throws her Pokeball and calls out, "Noctowl, go!"

Noctowl comes out and blows the smoke away, now the stage becomes clear.

Brad turns to Smoochum, "Why don't we give these losers the big kiss off, Smoochum?"

Smoochum agrees, "Smoochum," (Yeah!)

Then Brad calls out, "Use your Sweet Kiss attack, Smoochy!"

Smoochum then launches the attack, putting Team Rocket in a daze.

Dazed, Jessie says, ""I...feel nothing but love."

"Me, too. Isn't it lovely?" James says.

"Yeah, I love love," Meowth happily says.

Then Mew says, "Alright, Pikachu, Eevee, it's Thunderbolt time!"

Pikachu and Eevee launch the attack and hit Team Rocket.

Team Rocket cries out, "We're blasting off again!"

The crowd erupts in applause.

Brad turns to the audience and says, "Thanks. Thanks very much. But what you've seen here wasn't a show. This is real life, and this is my Pokémon in real life."

The audience is confused, "In real life?" "What does he mean?"

Brad then introduces Smoochum to the audience, "Smoochum and I were a team way before I became a big movie star. It may not fit my image, but I don't care who knows it."

Smoochum then kisses Brad as the crowd pauses in silence.

"Listen to that silence!" Vitzio says, shocked.

But soon hears the audience getting excited, "Cutie!" "I love that Smoochum!"

"They love it!" Vitzo says, surprised.

The crowd starts chanting for Brad.

Vitzo rushes to the stage, "I knew it! I knew if Brad showed his sensitive side, they'd love it! I'm a genius!"

"Yeah, it's a lucky thing he listened to you," Misty says.

"And I'm glad to see that it doesn't matter what Pokemon he has," Mew says.

The Pokemon agree as Smoochum walks beside Pikachu and EEvee.

Vitzo happily says, "Smoochum, I love you!"

Brad walks to Mew and says, "We'd like to give you something, Mew."

"What is it?" Mew asks.

And with that, Smoochum gives Mew a kiss on the cheek.

Mew giggles, "Thank you, Smoochum."

"Smoochum Smoochum," (No, I was thanking you.) Smoochum says.

Mew smiles, "You're welcome, Smoochum." and gives Smoochum a kiss too.

Later, Mew and her friends are walking down the street and hear a movie trailer playing.

Mew notices, "Hey, look!"

On screen are none other than Brad and Smoochum climbing a waterfall before Brad slips and Smoochum catches him.

Brad: (in trailer) Help me!

Smoochum pulls him up.

"Well, it looks like Smoochum is Brad's co-star, now," Mew says.

"Smoochum," (I agree.) Mew's Smoochum says.

"I think Smoochum's a great costar," Misty says.

"Guess those girls think so, too," Brock says.

Everyone looks to see plastic Smoochums being carried around

"Maybe Brad is Smoochum's costar," Tomo says.

"It seems so," Jen says.

And the group begins laughing with glee.

Thanks to Mew and her friends, Smoochum seems destined for superstardom. And so, with lots of sweet screen kisses to send them on their way, Mew and company set out once more as they continue on their journey to the Johto League.
