Episode 97: Right On, Rhydon!

One early morning, Mew and all her friends are fast asleep in their tent. Togepi soon wakes up and begins to walk towards the exit. Sparkle, Pikachu, and Eevee soon wake up as well before going outside, allowing some sun to shine in Mew's face, causing her to wake up.

Now outside of the tent, the four Pokemon are now playing together. Pikachu and Eevee soon look onto the lake and see something in the water. Sparkle and Togepi soon notice it too.

Pikachu calls out, "Pika Pi!" (Mew!)

Mew soon comes out of the tent as she lets out a yawn.

She soon asks, "What's the matter, Pikachu?

Pikachu points to the lake, but nothing is to be seen.

"Hmm, I don't see anything," Mew says.

Soon, they see what Pikachu saw before it comes out of the water, revealing itself to be a Rhydon, shocking them.

Later on, after the rest of the gang wake up, Mew explains to the others what she has seen.

"It couldn't have been a Rhydon," Brock says, in disbelief.

"Well, maybe it could've been, but it was!" Mew says.

Then Misty says, "You were both half asleep when you saw it. It must've been a Feraligatr or a Magikarp."

"Trust me Misty, what me and the other Pokemon saw was a Rhydon," Mew says.

"Then tell me how a rock Pokémon like Rhydon could live underwater," Misty replies.

"Misty, in case you forgot, we have quite a few Pokemon that can withstand their opposing elements, remember AJ's Sandshrew?" Mewe replies.

Misty tries to say something, but soon says, "Good point."

"So then, how can a Rhydon live underwater?" Mew asks

Before Mew can answer, someone answers, "I'll tell you how."

Everyone looks to see a young lady holding a Marill in her arms. She has green hair in a ponytail, blue eyes, and is wearing a pink shirt with a red collar around it. And her Marill is wearing a gold earring on her left ear.

"Very easily," The girl says.

Brock has been lovestruck and approaches the lady, "My name's Brock. Never mind telling us about Rhydon, miss, tell us about you."

"Well, my name is Pietra. And this is my Marill," The girl introduces herself.

"Marill," (Hello.) Marill says.

"Pietra? What an enchanting name. If you haven't had a morning beverage yet, perhaps you'd permit me to prepare a cup of tea that's as delicate and stimulating as yourself," Brock says in cloud nine.

Misty reaches over and grabs Brock's ear, causing Brock to scream, "Not the ear!"

"We're talking about the Rhydon, so hold the tea and cut the baloney," misty says.

Tomo then turns to Petra and asks, "But still, why would a Rhydon be swimming out in a lake?"

"It is unusual, but a Rhydon who lives nearby learned to use the Surf attack," Pietra says.

"That's funny. Rock types like Rhydon usually don't like the water," Brock says.

"True, but some Pokemon can perform attacks that they don't naturally use, take Eevee for example, she can use Thunderbolt," Mew says.

"Eevee," (That's right.) Eevee says.

Then Pierta interrupts, "About that Rhydon. Uh, which way did it go?"

"Well, it shot up out of the water, and then it turned around and started swimming off toward the far side of the lake before it disappeared," Mew explains.

Pierta and Marill are disappointed to hear it.

"It sounds to me like you're looking for that Rhydon, too," Misty says.

Soon, Pietra shows Mew and the others a large tunnel.

"Wow. Must be hard to dig a tunnel like this," Jen says.

"It is, but it's going to make things a whole lot easier. You see, my grandma has to cross this mountain to get into town. It's a long trip, and the other day, she sprained her ankle. If she could cut straight through, it'd make her life a whole lot easier," Pietra says.

Soon, Dugtrio are seen carrying out some rocks.

"Hey! Dugtrio!" Tomo says.

"They're little, but they're strong," Molly says.

Mew turns to Pietra and asks, "Does the tunnel have anything to do with why you're looking for that Rhydon?"

"Well, you see, we're almost at the point of breaking through to the other side," Pietra says.

The gang soon enters the tunnel to see a Sandslash and a Graveler trying to dig through the bedrocks.

"You even have a Graveler and a Sandslash," Mew says.

"Well, yeah, but they're having a hard time digging through this rock, and some water started leaking through," Pietra says.

Right on cue, two drops drip onto Graveler and Sandslash, causing them to run out.

"The problem is, Sandslash and Graveler are ground types and they hate the water," Misty says.

"That must be why you want a Rhydon who's not afraid of water," Tomo says.

"Yes, if I can catch it, I can use it to finish digging the tunnel," Pietra says.

Just then, Brock says, "You don't need a Rhydon! Just leave everything to me, Pietra!"

"But…" Pietra says.

Brock then gets out his Pokeball, "I got the Pokemon who can handle this job!" and lets Onix out of the Pokeball.

"Onix?" Pietra says, confused.

"I know what you're thinking, but I'm an experienced Pokemon Breeder! It may be a ground type, but I've raised it to be tougher than the average Onix! Go, Onix! Don't let a little water scare you!" Brock says.

Onix rams into the rock wall, but ends up causing a larger leak, causing Onix to run out in pain.

Brock chases after him, "Onix, where are you going?! Come back! I mean, return!" and quickly returns Onix to the Pokeball.

"I guess Onix isn't quite as tough as Brock thought it was," Misty says.

The other Pokemon agree.

"Well, it was worth a try," Brock says.

Then Mew says, "Since Onix couldn't help you, maybe we could go back to the lake and try to find that surfing Rhydon for you."

"That'd be great," Pietra says.

"Marill," (Thank you.) Marill happily says.

Up on the cliffs above, Team Rocket is seen to have been eavesdropping.

"Did you hear what I heard?" Jessie asks.

"I certainly did," James answers.

Meowth shouts with excitement, "Da boss would flip over a Rhydon that likes water! We gotta catch it before dey do!"

"Wobbuffet" (I agree!) Wobbuffet appears.

"It's too bad we can't simply make a trade," Jessie says, and calls Wobbuffet back to the Pokeball.

Meanwhile, Mew's group reaches the lake.

Pietra explains, "I've only seen it a few times, but from what I can figure out, the Rhydon lives somewhere in these woods, and every so often, it comes out for a swim."

"Then our best bet is to look around for it in the woods," Mew says.

"Well, let's go," Misty says.

Then Pietra says, "There's a place close by where I found some Rhydon tracks, maybe we should start there."

Soon, Pietra shows them the tracks, "Here they are."

"These hoofprints should make finding that Rhydon a cinch," Brock says.

"How come you didn't just follow them on your own, Pietra?" Misty asks.

"I tried that, but it isn't as simple as it seems," Pietra says.

"But the tracks should lead us right to Rhydon," Misty says.

Then Tomo says, "Instead of talking about it, why don't we give it a try."

"Good idea," Molly says.

They follow the tracks to another part of the lake.

"It disappeared at the shore," Mew says.

"It must have gone straight into the lake," Brock says.

"Yes, that's exactly the problem. Every Rhydon trail I follow leads straight to the lakeshore," Pietra says.

"It really must love swimming," Misty says.

Soon, Mew finds something, "Hey, look!" and picks up an apple core," "An apple.

"I find those all over the woods, the Rhydon loves apples and leaves the cores everywhere," Pietra says.

"Then that means the Rhydon might've eaten this one, too," Misty says.

Then Brock says, "That core looks pretty fresh. Maybe Rhydon got it from an apple tree nearby."

"Yeah. And maybe we'll find Rhydon, too," Tomo says.

The group of friends continue on ahead while Team Rocket follows from behind.

"Well, now that we know what that Rhydon likes to eat…" Jessie says.

"We'll just find where it feeds and lie in wait," James says.

"Heh. Lying and waiting happens to be my specialty," Meowth says

Team Rocket soon spots something.

"Hey, look there," James says.

What they find are footprints.

"Footprints, "Meowth says.

James asks, "Do you think they're Rhydon tracks?"

"Well, of course, they're Rhydon tracks," Jessie answers, "What else could they be?

"Beats me," James answers.

Then Jessie says, "Let's go!"

Team Rocket follows the tracks and hears something eating.

"Hey, you hear dat?" Meowth asks.

"It's right behind that bush," Jessie says,

Team Rocket pounces with hungry eyes, but finds that it's just Wobbuffet eating an apple.

Jessie shouts, "Hey, what's the big idea, blob-o?!"

"Yes, we're starving too! What about us?!" James asks.

Wobbuffet points out, "Wobbuffet," (Over there.)

Team Rocket looks and sees the apple tree Wobbuffet was pointing to. Soon, the gang come by and suddenly see apple cores being tossed up and over the bushes.

"What on earth…" Mew questions.

"You think it's the Rhydon?" Molly asks.

"If it is, it's in the middle of lunch," Mew says.

"Come on, guys," Brock says.

However, they spot Team Rocket instead of the Rhydon, causing them to fall over in disbelief

"Team Rocket?!" Mew exclaims.

Then Tomo demands, "What are you losers doing here?!"

Team Rocket begins their motto.

Jessie: (with her mouth full)

Prepare for trouble...

However, because they're eating the apples and talking at the same time, their words come out as muffles until Jessie and James start choking on them.

Meowth: (with his mouth full)

Meowth, dat's right!

Wobbuffet: (with its mouth full)

Wobbuffet. (Oh, so true.)

Mew and her friends are dumbfounded.

"I didn't understand a word they said," Misty says.

"I think they're doing their usual motto," Mew replies.

Molly giggles, "They're stuffing their faces with apples."

Suddenly, they all hear something. And when they look to the immediate right, they spot the Rhydon they're looking for.

"The Rhydon!" Misty says, surprisingly.

"This is where Rhydon's feeding ground must be!" Brock clarifies.

"And Team Rocket's eating it," Jen replies.

The Rhydon angrily looks at Team Rocket.

James nervously says, "It sounds a bit angry."

"It sounds a little hungry, too," Jessie says, nervously.

"Wobbuffet," (This ain't good.) Wobbuffet says, nervously.

Meowth then presents the apple cores to it, "Take dese, I hardly touched dem."

However, Rhydon lets out an angry roar and charges them using Tackle, sending them flying.

Team Rocket cries out, "We're blasting off again!"

"Wobbu Wo!" (Too early!) Wobbuffet cries out.

Mew and the others look up to see Team Rocket is gone.

Then Pietra confronts Rhydon, "Rhydon, you're strong and I need your help, so let me battle you and try to capture you."

Rhydon stomps three times, sharing the ground and starling the gang before running off

"That's just the kind of powerful Pokemon I need!" Pietra says, and starts her pursuit

But Rhydon dives into the lake.

Pietra catches up to see it escape, "Rhydon's gonna get away!"

"We need you, Totodile!" Mew says, and throws her Pokeball.

Totodile comes out and enters the water.

Pietra calls out, "We can't lose it this time, Marill!" and Marill dives into the water.

Misty then calls out her Water Pokemon, "My water Pokemon will really be able to help out on this one!"

She calls out Goldeen, Staryu, Shiny Totodile, Golduck, Poliwhirl, Mudkip, and Piplup.

"Everybody go and find that Rhydon!" Misty says.

"And hurry!" Mew adds.

"Move out!" Pietra calls out.

The Pokemon agree and split up.

Pietra turns to the others, "Come on. We'll follow along in my boat."

"Great," Brock says.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket has landed at another part of the lake, and is walking towards it.

"Well, we didn't get dat Rhydon," Meowth says, defeated.

"Yeah, but it got us," Jessie agrees.

"Oh, well," James replies.

Soon, Team Rocket hears and sees a boat out on the lake.

"What's that?" James asks.

Jessie looks to see, "It's the twerps and that girl."

"What are dey doing now?" Meowth wonders.

Out on the water, the gang is still searching.

"Rhydon's gotta be down there someplace," Misty says.

"Did you find anything, Marill?" Pietra asks.

Marill shakes its head no.

Meanwhile, Totodile leisurely swims by.

Mew notices as she giggles, "Hey! Totodile, cut it out! This isn't a vacation!"

Soon, Totodile bumps into something and bites it, but little did anyone suspect that it was Rhydon, who surfaces immediately.

": It's the Rhydon! Brock calls out.

"And Totodile!" Mew panics.

Rhydon makes its drill-like horn spin, spinning Totodile around before sending it flying into the water.

"Are you okay?" Mew asks, worried.

Totodile surfaces, clearly knocked out from the dizziness.

Pietra then calls out, "Rhydon, let's battle!"

Marill swims towards it.

Misty calls out, "Goldeen, Staryu, Totodile, Golduck, Poliwhirl, Mudkip, Piplup, surround it so it can't get away!

All the Pokemon corner Rhydon, both above and under the water, but Rhydon dives down to escape anyway.

"Totodile, follow it!" Mew calls out.

Totodile dives down.

Mew then calls out her other Pokemon, "Feebas, Omanyte, Azumarill, follow it as well!"

The other Pokemon come out and dive under the sea.

"You go, too, Marill!" Pietra calls out.

Marill dives down, as well.

Misty calls out, "All of you, follow it!"

Underwater, the Pokemon are in pursuit and corner it. Rhydon then spins its drill horn, creating a Whirlpool that traps Marill, Mew and Misty's Pokemon. Up on the surface, our heroes can see the whirlpool forming.

"What's that?" Tomo asks.

"Rhydon must be using its Horn Drill to create a whirlpool!" Pietra says.

Mew calls out, "Get out of the water!"

The whirlpool recedes and the dizzy, knocked out Pokemon floats to the top. Later, the boat has docked and everyone reaches the shore.

"That Rhydon's gonna be tough to catch," Brock says.

"You said it," Tomo says.

Soon, Misty spots something, "Quick, guys! Look over there!"

Everyone looks and sees Rhydon surface and come onto the shore of the island in the middle of the lake.

"It's Rhydon!" Mew says.

"It's going to shore on that little island!" Misty says.

Brock looks through the binoculars to see Rhydon reaching the shore on the island.

He then sees, "Apple trees! That island must be its feeding ground!"

"Rhydon must like apples so much that it got over its fear of water to swim there!" Pietra says.

"All we have to do now is get to that island," Misty says.

"Rhydon won't get away from us this time!" Brock says.

Unknown to the group, Team Rocket peeks out, having eaves dropped on them again.

"Dey figured out da whole ting for us!" Meowth says.

"We'll just beat them to the island!" James says with a grin.

Then Jessie says, "Watch out, Rhydon! We'll be ready!"

On the island, Team Rocket covers their trap they set for Rhydon, which is another pit trap.

"Da trap's finally ready," Meowth says.

James soon notices someone missing, "Say, what happened to Jessie?"

Jessie is soon revealed to be sleeping.

James shouts, "Hey! Why do we have to slave while she gets to snooze?!"

"Why ask why? Let's just be happy our trap's set and wait for dat Rhydon," Meowth says.

Later, James and Meowth are seen relaxing as well.

James sighs, "What bliss. I hope Rhydon doesn't show up right away."

Yeah. Digging all day makes you want to drift away," Meowth says.

Soon, a sudden noise wakes Jessie up.

Jessie shouts, "What are you slaving for?! Wake up! It's in the trap! It's in the trap!"

Team Rocket peers into the trap and finds Wobbuffet.

Wobbuffet calls out, "Wobbuffet!" (Help me up!)

They quickly fall over in disbelief. Meanwhile, Mew and the others are behind a bush, set and ready for Rhydon.

"I hope Rhydon's getting hungry," Misty says.

"We'll be ready for it, right, Marill?" Pietra says.

Marill agrees, "Marill!" (Ready!)

Suddenly, Pikachu hears something, "Pika!" (Listen!)

"Pikachu hears something," Mew says.

Everyone soon spots Rhydon.

Then Pietra contronts it, "Rhydon, battle us!"

Rhydon answers and walks away.

"What did Rhydon say?" Brock asks.

"He said 'No Thanks,'" Mew says.

Tomo then says, "You're not getting off that easy!" And calls out, "Skwovet, Bullet Seed, go!"

Skwovet leaps from Tomo's shoulder and fires the attack as a warning shot, stopping Rhydon.

Pietra calls out, "Rhydon, don't run away! I challenge you to a battle!"

"Marill," (Yeah!) Marill agrees.

"Please Rhydon, Pietra really wants to battle out," Mew says, approaching the Rhydon

Suddenly a net drops on both Rhydon and Mew.

Pietra cries out, "Hey! What's going on here?!"

They look up and see Team Rocket's balloon. Then Team Rocket performs the motto again.

Jessie:

Prepare for trouble, don't you get it?

James:

When you want something, we simply net it.

Jessie:

We recited our motto to you before.

James:

When our mouths aren't stuffed anymore.

Meowth:

No need to repeat ourselves so we'll cut it short.

Jessie and James:

That's right.

Tomo calls out, "Our friend needs that Rhydon, you losers!"

"Yeah, bring it back here!" Brock calls out.

"And let Mew go right now!" Jen calls out.

Meowth soon notices, "Look we got the twerpette too."

"But still, no can do," Jessie says.

"This Rhydon is a special present for our boss," James says.

"Yeah, but tanks a lot for helping us pick it up here!" Meowth says.

Jessie and James call out, "Bye-bye!" as the balloon carries them away.

Pietra calls out, "Wait! Come back!"

Brock brings out his Pokeball, "Don't worry. I know how to bring em right down to earth." And throws his Pokeball, "Go, Crobat!"

Crobat soon comes out of his Pokeball.

Brock calls out, "Crobat, use your Wing Attack before they get away!"

Crobat uses the wing attack to rip a hole in the balloon, causing it to land in the water only to find that Team Rocket had a boat ready.

Jessie laughs, "Luckily, we brought our Wobbuffet rubber life raft."

"Those twerps must think we're as stupid as we look," James says.

"Put some elbow grease into it, Jimmy, and let's slip away!" Meowth says.

James paddles, but the group closes in much quicker on Pietra's boat.

"There they are!" Misty calls out.

James panics, "We forgot about the motorboat and those fast water Pokemon!"

"Dey're headed dis way!" Meowth panics.

Pietra calls out, "Let that Rhydon go!"

"And let go of Mew!" Molly calls out.

Jessie calls out, "James, row faster! Full speed ahead!"

"This is full speed," James says.

Tomo then calls out, "Sage, I choose you!" and Sage the Bulbasaur comes out.

Then Tomo calls out, "Cut Rhydon and Mew loose with your Razor Leaf attack!"

Sage launches the attack and free both captives. They Mew and Rhydon dive in the water.

Jen turns to Pikachu and Eevee, "Pikachu, Eevee, you know what to do! Give them a Thunderbolt!"

Pikachu and Eevee launch their Thunderbolt attack and send Team Rocket flying.

Team Rocket cries out, "Team Rocket's blasting off again!"

Rhydon is the first to surface. Mew is able to swim up the surface.

Before Rhydon can swim away, Pietra calls out, "Rhydon, wait!"

Rhydon stops.

"You owe me a battle!" Pietra says.

Pietra then dives into the water.

"Pietra!" Brock calls out.

Pietra swims up to and grabs Rhydon, who proceeds to swim to the island and tries to shake her off.

"You're not getting away this time, no matter what!" Pietra calls out.

Rhydon dives deep down while Pietra holds on. Rhydon decides to surface, giving Pietra some air in the process as the gang look on.

"Battle me or I'm not letting you go!" Pietra calls out.

Rhydon splashes back into the water with Pietra still clinging on while the gang are in pursuit.

"Pietra!" Brock calls out.

At the same time, Rhydon heads to shore as well, but Pietra finally loses her grip from exhaustion.

"Pietra!" Mew calls out, able to swim to the island shore.

Brock rushes over as he calls out, "Pietra! Pietra, are you okay?"

Pietra continues to call out, "Wait! Rhydon, please!"

Rhydon stops again.

"Please. I'm begging," Pietra begs.

Rhydon looks back at Pietra and Marill. Seeing how determined they are, Rhydon turns back to them.

It then responds with a growl, "Fine then.)

"I think Rhydon accepted the challenge," Mew says.

Meanwhile, Ace heads towards Miki)

Pietra is pleased to hear it, "Thank you, Rhydon! I knew you'd come through!"

Then turns to Marill, "Alright, Marill, this is it."

Marill the heads onto the battlefield.

Rhydon tries a Tail Whip.

Pietra calls out, "Dodge it, Marill!"

Marill dodges.

Pietra calls out, "Use your Water Gun attack and hurry!

Marill fires the attack, but Rhydon blocks it with a Horn Drill.

"It's not afraid of water! Try something else, Pietra!" Mew calls out.

Then Pietra says, "Marill, try a Tackle attack!"

Marill charges in, but ends up getting smacked away. Marill lands and Rhydon closes in to finish the battle by stomping Marill flat.

"Hurry, Pietra!" Jen calls out.

Pietra calls out, "Marill, use your Bubble Beam!"

Marill fires the Bubble Beam and it lands fast and frenzied, causing Rhydon to back away.

"Guys, I think it's working!" Mew says.

Rhydon retaliates with a Tail Whip that sends Marill flying.

"Hurry, Marill, try another Water Gun attack!" Pietra calls out.

Marill sits up and fires the attack, and manages to knock Rhydon onto its back.

"Even though Rhydon might not be afraid of water attacks, they still work against it really well!" Brock says.

"Now's your chance!" Mew says.

Misty calls out, "

"Throw your Pokéball!"

"Alright," Pietra says, and throws her Pokeball, "Go, Pokéball, go!"

The Pokéball hits, lands on the ground, wobbles, but Rhydon breaks out.

"It's strong," Brock says.

"And very persistent," Jen says.

"Fire more attacks at it," Mew says.

Pietra calls out, "Marill, try another Bubble Beam attack!"

Marill fires the attack, but Rhydon blocks it with a Horn Drill.

Pietra calls out, "Use another Water Gun, hurry!"

Marill fires the attack, but another Horn Drill blocks it.

"It's no use! If Rhydon can block Water Gun and Bubble Beam, Pietra's got no way to beat it!" Brock says.

Rhydon charges in for a Tackle.

Pietra calls out, "Quick, Marill, dodge it!"

Marill narrowly does so, but Rhydon charges at it again.

Pietra calls out, "Marill, use Iron Tail attack!"

The ball on Marill's tail glows as it spins its tail around like a bola and charges in at the charging Rhydon. The attack nails Rhydon right in the face, seemingly knocking it out.

"Now's your chance!" Tomo says.

Brock calls out, "Pietra! Hurry!"

"Well, it's now or never!" Pietra says, and throws her Pokeball, "Alright, Pokéball, go!"

The Pokéball hits, lands on the ground after catching it, wobbles, and finally pings.

Pietra picks up her newly caught Pokemon, "We finally caught the swimming Rhydon!"

Marill leaps into Pietra's arms.

"Thank you, Marill," Pietra happily says.

"I have to admit, for a minute there, I thought Rhydon had you beat, but using Iron Tail was a stroke of genius!" Brock says.

"I may have thought of it," Pietra says,

Then says to Marill, "But you did it. You were perfect, Marill!"

Soon, Mew and the others return to the Tunnel.

"Rhydon, I choose you!" Pietra says, and calls out her Pokemon.

Rhydon comes out as water drips on its head. The water doesn't bother it.

"A trickle like that isn't gonna stop your Rhydon," Misty says.

"Well, let's see if your Horn Drill can cut through that rock, Rhydon," Pietra says to Rhydon.

Rhydon spins its horn and pierces the rock easily.

"Great!" Pietra says.

Then calls out, "Now, use your Take Down to bring down that wall!"

Rhydon charges and busts through the wall, prompting the group to celebrate.

Pietra cheers, "You did it, Rhydon."

Marill happily says, "Marill." (Thank you.)

Rhydon growls in reply.

Later, Mew and her friends part ways with Pietra, Marill, and Rhydon. They're able to help a trainer in trouble, and now they continue on their road across the Johto Region, where another adventure awaits them.
