Episode 100: The Joy of Water Pokemon

On a bright and sunny day, Mew and her friends have arrived at a crystal clear lake during their trip to Olivine City.

Misty recognizes it, "Hey, this is it! It's Lake Lucid!"

"Lake Lucid?" Tomo asks.

"She's right, Tomo. It's here in the guide," Brock says, showing them the guidebook.

"It's even more beautiful in person," Mew says.

"How come three know about it and I don't?" Jen asks.

"You'd know about Lake Lucid if you were a water Pokémon trainer like me, Jen, 'cause every water Pokémon trainer dreams about visiting the famous Pokémon Center here," Misty says.

"What's so great about it?" Tomo asks.

Suddenly, Pikachu calls out, "Pika Pika!" (In the water!)

"In the water?" Mew questions.

Everyone looks down to see someone coming up to the surface in a diving suit carrying a Goldeen, surprising everyone.

Just then, Brock says, "Hey, a girl! I know it's a girl! And a very beautiful one I might add!"

"Brock, how can you tell that?" Misty asks.

"My heart can! It hasn't failed me yet!" Brock says.

The gang looks at Brock with dumbfounded expressions.

Soon, a familiar voice appears in the suit, "Okay. Bring in the water stretcher."

Some Chansey roll in said stretcher, indicating that the person in the diving suit is Nurse Joy as she puts the injured Goldeen in the stretcher.

"Our patient's recovering nicely, but it's time to change the bandages again. Please take Goldeen to the treatment room," Nurse Joy's voice says.

The Chansey roll Goldeen away.

"Be gentle," Nurse Joy's voice says.

Soon, Nurse Joy opens the suit, and lets out a sigh, "I'm glad that's over with."

Brock then rushes to Nurse Joy, "That suit's pretty thick, Nurse Joy, but my heart saw right through it."

"You. You saw through my suit," Nurse Joy says, surprised.

"Don't worry about it, it's only a figure of speech. My friends call me Brock. In fact, everybody calls me Brock, so I'd prefer if you'd call me your boyfriend," Brock says, in the love zone.

Misty shoves Brock aside with excitement, "Excuse me, are you the Nurse Joy who's in charge of the Lake Lucid Pokémon Center?"

"I am," Nurse Joy says and asks, "And who might you be?"

Misty's eyes sparkle, "It's her! In person! My sisters are gonna be so jealous that I met you!"

"Calm down Misty," Mew says.

"Hello. How are you, Pikachu? Eevee?" Nurse Joy replies.

"Pika," (Hello.) Pikachu says.

"Vee," (Hi.) Eevee says.

Nurse Joy notices, "You both look a little tired. Would you like to come for treatment in my Pokémon Center?"

Brock rushes Nurse Joy, "I'd love to! I need close, personal attention from a loving healthcare professional!"

"I was talking to Pikachu and Eevee, but you can all come along if you like," Nurse Joy says.

Moments later…

"I can't believe I'm talking to THE Lake Lucid Nurse Joy! I almost feel like I'm dreaming," Misty says, still excited.

"What do you mean?" Jen asks.

Brock then says, "To put it simply, Jen. The Lake Lucid Nurse Joy is not just a Pokemon Nurse, she's an Author." and brings out a book with Nurse Joy's face on it, "I have a copy of her book here. It's called 'A Spring Without Pokémon'.

"A Spring Without Pokémon?" Tomo questions.

"I know that book, Professor Oak read it to me," Mew says.

"My papa read the book to me too. It was one of my favorites," Molly says.

"Yes, but I didn't write that book, Brock. My grandmother did. It was about fifty years ago," Nurse Joy says.

She then explains, In those days, the lake and this whole area were terribly polluted by the waste from nearby factories and towns. It was so bad the Muk stayed away, but grandmother still loves this place, so she decided to do something. She dedicated her life to studying the effects of pollution on Pokémon. And she told the world about what she learned in 'A Spring Without Pokémon'

"Please, Nurse Joy, couldn't you autograph this copy for me?" Brock asks, excited.

"I could sign my name, but it wouldn't be authentic if it's not from my grandmother," Nurse Joy says.

Jen then looks at the lake, "And now the lake is so clear and purified."

"How did it all get cleaned up?" Tomo asks.

Brock reaches his backpack and finds another book, "Found it! My copy of 'A Summer of Muk."

"I know that book too. And that one's my favorite," Mew says.

"Hey it's mine too," Misty says.

"Glad you know it," Brock says.

"Well these are some of the books Professor Oak read to me when I was really learning to read," Mew says.

"Make sense," Brock says.

And then brings it to Nurse Joy, "Here you go, Nurse Joy. How about signing this one to my beloved Brocky?"

Nurse Joy apologizes, "I'm sorry, but I didn't write that one either, Brock. My mother was inspired by my grandmother's work, so she decided to carry it forward. After a lot of work, she managed to get the factories and towns to stop polluting the lake. Then she was put in charge of draining the toxic water, cleaning the lake bed, and refilling it.

In the flashback of the events, Nurse Joy's mother is in charge of fixing the lake, when the Muk and Grimer come along.

"Nurse Joy continues, "The Grimer and Muk returned first, but my mother kept working. Soon the lake was crystal clear, and water Pokémon came here to live again. So many came that she decided to build the Lake Lucid Pokémon Center to take care of them. And now I'm here, trying to carry on the family tradition."

Soon, everyone hears the sound.

"Hey, what's that sound?" Misty asks.

From the lake, a Tentacool and a Dewgong surface

"Look, it's a Tentacool," Mist says.

"Yeah, and a Dewgong, too," Brock says.

Suddenly, a Gyarados surfaces as well.

"Look at that Gyarados!" Mew says.

"It's big," Tomo says.

"We specialize in water Pokémon, and they love to come here for our personalized treatments and because the lake is so clean," Nurse Joy says.

In the lake with the Tentacool, Dewgong and Gyarados are a Starmie, a Magikarp, a Seel and a Seaking.

"These Pokémon look great, Nurse Joy. Whatever you're doing for them really seems to be working," Misty says.

"The lake's a place where water Pokémon can exercise and build up their strength physically and emotionally," Nurse Joy says.

"Emotions, huh? I like the sound of that," Brock says, and leans to the nurse, "I need emotional buildup, Nurse Joy. Maybe you can help me."

Misty grabs Brock by the ear, and he yelps, "Not the ear!"

"Forget it. If you have an emotional buildup over here, I guarantee it'll be a letdown for you," Misty says.

Soon, some Seadra surface and fire Water Guns at each other.

Look. Those Seadra are starting to battle each other," Tomo says.

Some Dewgong start battling as well.

"And those Dewgong are going at it, too!" Jen says.

But Nurse Joy says, "Oh, they're not really battling each other. They're all just trying to get back into shape by practicing."

"They're only practicing?" Mew asks.

Misty lets go of Brock's ear and says, "I can't believe it. These recovering Pokémon look healthier than lots of healthy Pokémon."

"The research Nurse Joy does here must be amazing. No wonder the Lake Lucid Pokémon Center is famous around the world! "Brock says.

"We've all worked very hard to make the Lake Lucid Center a success. It's to honor my mom and grandmother," Nurse Joy says.

"Nurse Joy, you're without doubt the most awesome Nurse Joy ever! I want your autograph!" Brock says, in excitement, and rummages through his backpack, "Let's see, your book must be here somewhere.

"I haven't written a book yet, Brock," Nurse Joy clarifies, "But I'm planning to write one soon, and I think I'm gonna call it, 'An Autumn Harvest of Pokémon', following in my grandmother's and mother's footsteps, of course."

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to anyone, Team Rocket spies from the lake in their Tentacruel submarine

"I see a couple of Chansey, and a Nurse Joy. She's talking to those heroes," James says.

"Who cares about Chansey? Let's get that Pikachu and Eevee!" Jessie says.

"Roger," James says.

Soon, Wobbuffet comes out of the Pokeball, "Wobbuffet!" (And quickly!)

ot now, Wobbuffet!" Jessie screams.

Suddenly, some tentacles grab the artificial ones on Team Rocket's sub, pulling it down and revealing that a real Tentacruel grabbed the sub.

Jessie panics, "James, what's going on?! What's happening?!"

What's that thing saying to us, Meowth?" James asks.

The Tentacruel says, "Tenta Cruel."

Meowth says, "Tentacruel's saying 'Hey, how about getting in shape with a little practice battle?'"

"Practice battle?" Jessie and James panic.

Tentacruel is the first to attack.

"It's using, Supersonic," Meowth cries out.

"Wobbu Wobbuffet!" (My ears are hurting!) Wobbuffet cries out in pain.

Back on the surface, the Chansey lift up Nurse Joy's diving suit

"Why don't you come and see the Pokémon Center?" Nurse Joy asks

"Oh, we'd love to!" Misty happily says.

"You bet," Brock and Tomo say.

"Let's go," Mew says.

Jen and Molly happily say, "Okay!"

Soon, the gang heads towards the Pokemon Center. As they walk to the center, Team Rocket's submarine surfaces, battered and dented.

"That was some practice battle," Jessie says, dizzy.

James also feels dizzy, "Just imagine if that would've been a for real battle."

"We'd be real hoit," Meowth says.

"Wobbuffet. Wobbu," (No kidding. Ouchie.) Wobbuffet says in pain.

In the center, Pikachu is getting a good recharge, and soon the charging is finished.

"Well, that oughta do the trick," And give Pikachu to Mew, "A Pikachu recharge free of charge."

"That's great. Thanks a lot, Nurse Joy," Mew says.

Misty turns to Brock, "Hey, Brock? Could you hold Togepi for a minute, please?" And gives Togepi to Brock, "Nurse Joy, my Pokémon aren't sick or injured like most of the Pokémon who come here, but, it'd be an honor for us if you could just give them a quick check up."

"Of course. I'd be very happy to," Nurse Joy says, happily.

"Really?" Misty asks, excited, "I never thought I'd get the chance to have them examined by a real celebrity. Okay, here they are." And gets out her Pokeball, "These are all of my water Pokémon."

Despite being calm, Nurse Joy seems a bit uneasy, "Uh, wait a minute. Did you say they're water Pokémon?"

"That's right. I have a lot of Pokemon, but I'm mainly A Water Pokémon Trainer," Misty says.

"I see," Nurse Joy says, remaining calm.

Then Nurse Joy asks, "Is it alright if we start with a small Water Pokemon."

"Oh sure," Misty says, and calls out, "Come on out, Mudkip."

And with that, Mudkip comes out.

Nurse Joy then gently picks Mudkip up and rubs it on the head.

Misty eyes sparkle, "Nurse Joy is petting my Mudkip!"

Then asks in excitement, "Can I show you more of my Pokemon?"

"Okay, but maybe just three more," Nurse Joy says.

"Alright," Misty happily says, and calls out, "Staryu! Drizzile! Piplup! Go!"

And with that, the three Pokemon come out.

"My you sure have very healthy Pokemon," Nurse Joy says, and pat Staryu.

Then Nurse Joy says, "And it's nice to meet you, Piplup" and pets Piplup on the head.

Then turns to Drizzile, "And I've never seen a Drizzile in person before."

Nurse Joy then holds her hand out, allowing Drizzile to shake it.

Misty is even more excited, "Wow. Nurse Joy is happily touching my Pokemon."

"Yes," Nurse Joy says, but soon admits, "Well, at least now since I've gotten better after so long"

That catches the group's attention.

"What do you mean?" Misty asks.

"Well, it's kind of a long story," Nurse Joy says, and pet Mudkip says, "Still, I'm really glad that I'm able to be with the Water Pokemon I've been able to fully interact with. To tell you the truth, if it wasn't for a Mudkip I've met, I would still have fear and hatred towards Water Pokemon."

"Wha?!" Everyone says in shock.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket's sub is on the move again.

"I guess we were so humiliated by Tentacruel, the other Pokémon are steering clear of us," James says.

"Well, at least we found dat dere's something good about being losers," Meowth says.

"Say, maybe we should steal a few of the rare water Pokémon as an extra bonus," Jessie says.

"Then maybe the boss will give us a bonus," James says.

"This place must be swimming in sensational Pokémon," Jessie says.

Then Meowth notices something "Hey, look at dat big hole up ahead! It must be da underwater entrance to that Pokémon Center."

Jessie and James chant, "In we go on tippy-toes."

"WOBBUFFET!" (My ears still hurt!) Wobbuffet says in pain.

"Not now!" Jessie says.

Back in the center, the truth of Nurse Joy's fear has come as a surprise and shock.

"You used to be afraid of Water Pokemon?" Molly asks.

"Yes. A very long time ago," Nurse Joy.

"But you were able to hold Pikachu and Eevee just fine," Tomo says.

"I can handle electric Pokémon, poison Pokémon, I even love bug Pokémon. Any kind of Pokémon," Nurse Joy says.

Then says, "But back then, I used to hate Water Pokemon so much, I wouldn't even want to touch them."

The Chanseys bring in Nurse Joy's diving suit.

"Unless I was wearing this special protective suit," Nurse Joy says.

Misty says in shock, "This can't be. The third generation Nurse Joy of Lake Lucid doesn't like water Pokémon."

"I used to hate them, but not as much anymore," Nurse Joy says.

Then look at Misty's Mudkip, "And it's all thanks to my Mudkip friend."

"For as long as I can remember, I dreamed about meeting Nurse Joy from Lake Lucid, then I finally do, and it's not what I expected," Misty says.

"I really wish you wouldn't feel that way, Misty. I'm very happy to treat every kind of water Pokémon that comes to the Center. Of course, I've been able to touch Water Pokemon more frequently," Nurse Joy says.

She then smiles, "Just because I still have some trouble with Water Pokemon, doesn't mean that my personal preferences affect my job performance, because I can assure you that they don't. I treat all patients equally."

"You're one tough cookie," Jen says.

"I'll carry my Pokeballs to make this easier," Misty says.

"Thanks, Misty, I was hoping you'd say that. It's a little tough to handle those things with these things," Nurse Joy says, looking at the suit. "Even though I'm able to touch them physically, I still need the suit to breathe under the water as I mend multiple Pokemon underwater and clean the lake.

Soon, the Chansey are seen wrapping new bandages around the Goldeen from earlier

"You did a great job with those bandages, Chansey. Excellent as always. Thanks to my three assistants, I can treat water Pokémon without ever having to lay a hand on them, but I've been able to grow out of that trouble little by little," Nurse Joy says.

"How fortunate you are," Misty says.

"You sure have a lot of water tanks here, Nurse Joy," Brock says.

"Water Pokémon can get many different kinds of injuries and illnesses, so over the years, we've developed a number of different kinds of healing water baths to treat them with," Nurse Joy says.

Everyone soon spots a Gyarados as it roars.

Misty grows a slight worry, "Hey, look. A Gyarados."

"As much as you love water Pokémon, even you have trouble liking Gyarados, don't you, Misty?" Mew says.

"Yeah. I guess so," Misty says, sheepishly.

"Everybody has a certain Pokémon they like, and a certain Pokémon they don't like," Nurse Joy says. "And when it comes to Gyarados, no way, José!"

"I know," Misty says.

"True, you used to be scared of Bug Pokemon, but you were able to get over that fear in the end. And you're not that scared of Gyarados anymore," Mew says.

"That's true, but I still worry they might attack," Misty says.

"Gyarados have such large, heavy heads, that it's quite common for them to have neck and back problems," Nurse Joy says.

"I get it. So you have them exercise to build up muscles to support those big heads," Brock says.

"That's right," Nurse Joy says, "I've studied all kinds of water Pokémon, and I've created special treatments, special diets, even special exercises that help each one overcome their illnesses and injuries. Look, I understand water Pokémon, and I'm going to write a book so that others can understand them, too."

"Even though you used to hate Water Pokemon?" Jen asks.

Determined, Nurse Joy says, "I never allow my feelings to interfere with my work. I'm a Pokémon nurse, I don't have to cuddle my patients to learn what I have to about them."

Misty then says, "But it seems that you were able to understand them and that you were able to conquer that hatred."

Nurse Joy turns to Misty with a confused look.

Misty says, "I've admired her since I was a kid. I'm a water Pokémon trainer, and I dreamed that one day I'd get to meet the famous Lake Lucid Nurse Joy. And if I was really lucky, I might get to visit her Pokémon Center and have her examine my Pokémon for me. So it came as a shock that you used to hate them."

"Believe me, I'm very glad that I think differently about them now," Nurse Joy says, "I didn't start out hating water Pokémon. In fact, when I was a little girl, I loved them. But then, one day on the lake, everything changed. I would have to say that I was around Molly's age."

Nurse Joy remembers the day her feelings towards water Pokémon changed.

Nurse Joy explains, "My mother and I were out in a little boat. She was investigating a sudden increase in the Remoraid population."

Nurse Joy's mom says, "Look, Joy. There's a Remoraid."

Soon, the Remoraid surfaces.

The young Joy happily says, "Hi, Remoraid."

The Remoraid suddenly fires a Water Gun at her and she falls in the lake.

Nurse Joy's mom reaches her hand out, "Here, Joy! Grab on to my hands, quick!"

More Remoraid soon surround her as Nurse Joy continues to narrate, "The Remoraid were just playing, but I didn't know that."

The Remoraid all use Water Gun and send Nurse Joy back into the boat and into her mom's arms

Nurse Joy's mom says, "Don't worry, honey. You're safe with mommy, now. Everything's alright."

But Nurse Joy narrates, "My mother was relieved, but I wasn't."

Nurse Joy's mom says, "Just look at all the Remoraid there are, honey. That proves how much cleaner the water's becoming."

Nurse Joy continues to explain her story, "She was happy seeing those Remoraid, But I was terrified. I'll never forget that feeling, the feeling of being surrounded by fear. The fear of water Pokémon."

Nurse Joy happily says, "See, Joy? The lake's getting better. And one day you'll grow up like me, and you'll make Lake Lucid even prettier. Won't you?"

Nurse Joy nods sadly, "Yes."

"I did. I grew up and continued the work my mother and grandmother started. I may never be as great as they were, but I do the best job I can to honor both of them. I love Lake Lucid and I'm able to treat all kinds of sick and injured Pokémon, unfortunately for me back then, they're always all kinds of Water Pokémon. But a Pokémon nurse does what she has to, and that's what makes me happy." Nurse Joy says.

Then Misty says, "You've mentioned that you had Mudkip to thank for your reason to get over your fear and hatred towards them."

"That's right. I'll never forget that day. I was around your age when it happened, Misty," Nurse Joy says.

Then explains, "I was at the lake one day thinking about my trouble with Water Pokemon, just then…"

Flashback to when Nurse Joy is a kid, she notices something splashing rapidly when she's a kid. She takes out her binoculars to see a small Mudkip struggling to swim and it is not looking so well.

"It's a Mudkip," Joy says, shocked.

Nurse Joy narrates, "I was scared to get near Mudkip at first, and my mother was out at the time too and won't be back for a while."

Joy says, "I gotta save it, no matter what."

Young Joy dives into the water and swims to the Mudkip with all her might. She reaches her hands and grabs Mudkip, without thinking of her fear and swims back to shore.

Nurse Joy continues, "I've rescued the Mudkip, and even after I realized I touched it with my fear, I refused to let my fear get to me, so I nursed it back to help after finding out it got poisoned and badly hurt."

Young Nurse Joy mends the Pokemon and is able to heal it from the poison. When Mudkip wakes up, it reacts in fright and spray Water Gun at Joy and hides under her desk. Joy becomes scared and moves away from Mudkip, but notices the fear in Mudkip's eyes.

"I got scared when Mudkip attacked me, but when I saw the fear in its eyes, I realized that it was like me. Like me being afraid and hated Water Pokemon, it had fear and hatred towards humans. I have to suspect humans hurt that little Mudkip and was shaking like a leaf," Nurse Joy explains. "So I did what I had to do."

Joy reaches to Mudkip and reaches out as Mudkip shivers in fear. With enough courage, Joy begins rubbing Mudkip, calming it down.

"There you go," Joy says, and picks up Mudkip.

Nurse Joy continues narrating, "I've calmed Mudkip down and from that day, Mudkip and I not only were able to get near each other, but we built up a special bond with one another. Over the years, while I help Mudkip not be afraid of humans, Mudkip helps me get over my fear of Water Pokemon."

Flashback Ends:

"And since then, I've been able to get over my fears day by day. Sure, there are some large Water Pokemon I feared of, and sometimes in large groups, but I'm still doing my best to help get over my fear completely. With Mudkip, who is now my Number One Pokemon pal," Nurse Joy says.

Misty smiles with tears of joy, "What a beautiful story."

"So where's Mudkip now?" Jen asks.

"He's in the pool over there," Nurse Joy says, looking down at the water.

She calls out, "Jason! Come on out, we got guests who want to meet you!"

Soon coming out of the water is an amphibian-like Pokémon with a bulky frame and four thick limbs, the two longer ones at the front serving as arms while the shorter limbs. It's semi-bipedal. It can stand on its three-toed feet with a hunched posture, and pick up or grab objects with its hands, but when moving about it tends to run on all four limbs. It has orange conical gills that protrude from round patches on either side of its face. Two large fan-like black fins extend from the top of its orange eyes to the back of its head. Similarly, a black fan-like tail fin extends upward from its hindquarters. It's predominantly cobalt with a white abdomen, orange gills, and similarly orange padding on all four limbs.

The Pokemon climbs out of the pool and walks to Nurse Joy.

"Everyone, this is my Swampert, Jason." Nurse Joy says.

"Wow. It's a Swampert," Brock says.

"So your Mudkip evolved," Tomo says.

"Cool," Mew says and takes out her Pokedex.

Dexter says, "Swampert, the Mud Fish Pokemon and the final evolved form of Mudkip. A Water and Ground Type. Swampert is very strong. It has enough power to easily drag a boulder weighing more than a ton. This Pokémon also has powerful vision that lets it see even in murky water."

"Hi Jason, it's nice to meet you," Misty says.

On Misty's shoulder Mudkip says, "Mudkip Mud," (Hello Jason.)

"Swampert," (Hello.) Jason says.

"Even though I still had trouble with large Water Pokemon and Large groups, my Jason is the only Pokemon I'm able to be with and touch after getting big," Nurse Joy says.

Jason nods, "Swampert," (That's right.)

Mew then notices something around Swampert's neck, "Is that a Mega Stone?"

"Yes. Jason found Mega Stone and two Key Stones a few weeks ago. From what we discover, the Mega Stone is a Swampertite I thought it would be nice for me and Jason to have," Nurse Joy says, and then shows the Key Stone around her neck, that is in a pendant that looks like a dew drop.

"That's cool, and perfect for you two after what you both went through together. I have a Swampertite too, but not a Key Stone," Misty says.

"Really," Nurse Joy asks, taking an interest.

"Yeah. So have you two used Mega Evolution?" Misty asks.

"Yes. We did. We used Mega Evolution when Poachers tried to take the Water Pokemon from the lake using Grass and Electric Type Pokemon. When Jason mega evolved, I realized that our bond has become even stronger than before. And we both continue to help all Pokemon, even Water Pokemon," Nurse Joy says.

Misty smiles and is glad to hear Nurse Joy's story, especially how she ends up with a strong bond with her Swampert.

Suddenly, Team Rocket's submarine surfaces, catching everyone's attention.

"We made it! Good driving. We've entered the world of water Pokémon!" Jessie says.

"Jessie, the twerps are here, too," James says.

"They are?" Jessie questions.

"Hey, what's that thing?" Mew asks.

Nurse Joy clarifies, "It's a fake! A fake Tentacruel! What's going on here?!"

And soon the Team Rocket motto appears.

Jessie:

Prepare for trouble!

James:

And make it double!

Jessie and James flip out of the Tentacruel Submarine into the water, submerging all but one foot as they treat our heroes to a synchronized swimming display

Jessie:

To protect the world from devastation.

James:

To unite all peoples within our nation.

Jessie:

To denounce the evils of truth and love.

James:

To extend our reach to the stars above.

Jessie:

Jessie.

James:

James.

Then each of them jumps out of the water.

Jessie:

Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!

James:

Surrender now or prepare to fight, fight, fight, fight!

Meowth:

Meowth! Dat's right!

"Not you again!" Mew says, shocked.

"It's Team Rocket!" Jen says.

Jessie looks around, "I'm very thankful there are so many tankfuls of Pokémon. But you know what they say, James, first thing's first."

"And that means Pikachu and Eevee!" James says.

As Team Rocket hops into their submarine.

Jessie says, "Ready?"

"Set," James says.

"Go!" Meowth says.

The Tentacruel sub tries to grab Pikachu, but Pikachu leaps just in time.

Jessie says, "Nice try, but this mechanical Tentacruel has more legs than a chorus line and we get a kick out of every single one."

"One for the money, two for the show," James says.

"We're gonna grab you and never let go!" Jessie says.

Pikachu is soon snared by several tentacles as James and Jessie speak and Eevee quickly dodges the attack.

Mew calls out, "Pikachu, use your Thunderbolt attack!"

Pikachu does so, but James just laughs and says, "Your Thunderbolt has no effect on rubber Tentacruel!

Jessie says, deadpan, "Then what's that tingling sensation?"

Come to tink of it, we did just come out of da water," Meowth adds with the same expression.

"And doesn't water conduct electricity?" Jessie adds with the same expression.

In a way, I suppose so," James replies.

Wobbuffet cries out, "Wobbuffett!" (This will hurt!)

They all soon feel the electrical power.

Jessie cries out, "We should be wearing rubber, too!"

"That comes as a shock!" James says.

Wobbuffett cries out, "WOBBUFETT! (YOWZER!)

The tentacles break off the sub and a piece of one flies off and nails the tank Gyarados is in before hitting the drainage button in the pool Team Rocket came out of.

Down the drain again!" Team Rocket cries out.

Meanwhile, the Gyarados tank cracks further, causing water to gush out and washing the suit into the pool.

"There goes my suit!" Nurse Joy says.

Brock goes to block the drain, but says, "We're too late, it's gone!"

The Gyarados then busts out of the tank.

"Oh no! The Gyarados is out!" Misty cries out.

The Gyarados then breaks the brace around its neck.

Nurse Joy says, "We gotta do something before it injures itself even more!"

"We gotta do something!" Jen says.

"It might not be a good idea in the condition it's in," Mew says.

"Mew's right, it's too dangerous!" Brock says, "That Gyarados is confused and it's in pain! It might lash out at strangers!"

"But we can't stand by, we have to do something!" Misty says.

Nurse Joy steps forward, "Gyarados is my responsibility."

"Hold on, Nurse Joy. You can't do it," Tomo says.

"Leave this to us, we'll handle it," Brock says.

"I can't," Nurse Joy refuses, "Neither of you has tried to calm a Gyarados in pain. You may be great Pokémon trainers, but neither of you is a great nurse."

"Well, that's true," Brock says.

Nurse Joy then says, "That's why, I have to be the one to deal with that Gyarados. And so I will.

"Are you sure Nurse Joy?" Misty asks, concerned, "You're still working on large Water Pokemon, and your work suit just got washed away and you'll have to touch Gyarados with your bare hands."

"This is an emergency, and nurses don't get to pick and choose their patients. It's a nurse's duty to heal the sick, whoever they may be!" Nurse Joy says.

Then she walks towards Gyarados, "I can't focus on how I feel about Water Pokémon. But if I can just stay focused on the fact that I'm a nurse like my grandmother and my mother, and no matter what my feelings are, I have a duty to help and heal all Pokémon! I can do this!"

Then Nurse Joy is near Gyarados, "I have to be strong. I have to help this poor Gyarados. If I touch it the right way, it'll calm down." And soon touches Gyarados' head crest, "Please, Gyarados, I'm here to help."

Gyarados soon calms down to the amazement of the group.

"Wow. She did it," Misty says.

"She sure knows how to handle a Gyarados," Brock says.

"She's got real guts," Mew says.

All the Pokemon nod their heads.

Nurse Joy calls out, "Alright, Chansey, let's get ready! Bring in the brace!"

The Chansey do so as Gyarados breathes on Nurse Joy.

"Put it on, Chansey!" Nurse Joy says.

She then says, "There's no Pokémon that's better than any other. There's no Pokémon that's worse than any other. They're all precious creatures."

Mew soon says, "I know those words."

"Me too," Molly says.

"Every Pokémon trainer should know that saying. It comes from her grandmother's book, A Spring Without Pokémon." Brock says.

Then Nurse Joy says, "The song of every Pokémon is sweet if you can hear it."

"And you know what that's from, Brock?" Misty says, "That's one of my favorite lines from 'A Summer of Muk', the book Nurse Joy's mother wrote."

Soon, the Gyarados is calm again.

Nurse Joy sighs in relief, "You all did a wonderful job. Now take this Gyarados to another water tank, please."

The Chansey agrees.

Nurse Joy walks to the group, but soon collapses to the ground, but Jason catches her.

Nurse Joy smiles, "Thank you, Jason. You're always there when I need you, just like I'm always there for you."

"Swampert Swamp," (And that's the truth.) Jason says.

"Are you okay, Nurse Joy," Molly asks, worried.

"I'm okay," Nurse Joy says.

"Guess it must've hit you all at once," Misty says.

"It did, but I'm getting better. Last time I had to do that I fainted," Nurse Joy says.

Later on, Mew and her friends are ready to take their leave.

"Thank you for examining my Pokemon, including my Water Pokemon," Misty says.

"All of them are in top physical condition. They have an excellent trainer," Nurse Joy says.

"I'll try to do my best," Misty says, she then asks, "Nurse Joy, is it still true? Now that you touched Gyarados, do you still feel the same about water Pokémon?"

"Not as much anymore, but I might still feel this way for the rest of my life, But that won't stop me. I have a job to do and a Pokémon Center to run and a book to write!" Nurse Joy says.

"As soon as that book comes out, I'm gonna buy a copy," Misty happily says.

"Me, too," Mew says.

"I'll buy two copies if you autograph em," Brock says.

Nurse Joy smiles.

Then Nurse Joy says, "By the way Misty, Jason and I have a couple of presents for you."

"What is it?" Misty asks.

Jason passes Misty a small box white Chansey passes Nurse Joy an eggubator. With a Pokemon inside. It's cyan blue with dark blue circles and a red oval in the bottom center.

"It's a Pokemon Egg," Molly says.

"Yes. Jason and I found it while cleaning the lake a couple of weeks ago, and we like you to have it," Nurse Joy says.

"Are you sure?" Misty asks, confused.

"I'm sure," Nurse Joy says.

Misty takes the Eggubator, "Thank you."

Then Jason gives Misty the box. Misty opens it to reveal the other Key Stone.

"It's a Keystone," Tomo says.

"Yes. I remember you telling me you have a Swampertite, so I thought you would like to have the other one. And maybe someday, when your Mudkip evolves to Swampert, you'll be able to mega evolve just like Jason did," Nurse Joy says.

"Thank you Nurse Joy, Mudkip and I will become stronger." Misty says, and turns to Mudkip, "Right Mudkip."

"Mudkip Mud," (You bet we will.) Mudkip says.

Suddenly, Misty's new Pokemon Egg begins to glow, and shows signs of hatching.

"The Egg is hatching," Misty says, excited.

She removes the glass case and the Pokemon Egg bursts open to reveal a Pokemon. Ablue Pokémon with a round head and a tiny body. Its head is crowned by a flotation sac with a long, ribbon-like antenna. Its mouth is small, and its eyes are large with blue sclerae and gray irises. Above its eyes are two blue, circular markings connected to the eyes by a thin black line. Its long, flipper-like arms have rounded tips. It has a red, oval gem on its chest and a single rudimentary foot spike.

"It's so cute," Misty says.

"Well, it looks like you got a healthy Phione," Nurse Joy says.

Misty smiles at Phione, "Hello Phione, it's nice to meet you."

Phione smiles and hugs Misty.

Sometime later, Mew and her friends say goodbye to Nurse Joy, Jason, the Swampert, and the Chanseys. Misty ends up with a new strong admiration for Nurse Joy on how she conquers her fear of Water Pokemon, and despite her fear, she continues to devote her life to help all Pokemon. What's more, Nurse Joy and her Swampert, Jason, ended up creating a strong bond that will last forever.
