Episode 108: Takin' It on the Chinchou

It's a beautiful day at the Whirl Islands, where Mew and her friends are making their way to the Red Rock Isle for the Whirl Cup.

The P.A soon announces their next destination, "Our next stop will be Blue Lagoon."

"Blue Lagoon?" Mew and Misty say, confused.

"But that's the wrong town, guys. We wanted to stop in Bluefinland," Misty says.

Soon enough, they realize that they've gone down the wrong path, and reach the station.

"I tried telling you that the cable car wouldn't get us there!" Misty says.

"Sorry, I thought it'd be a good shortcut," Mew says

"Looks more like a long cut," Tomo says.

And Brock says, "If we miss that ferry to Yellow Rock Isle, we'll have to wait another three days."

"But, you have to admit, it is a nice town, with a very nice lake," Mew says.

"Maybe, but how do we catch that very now? We're stuck on top of this mountain," Misty says.

"We'll think of something," Mew says.

"But how?" Molly asks.

Suddenly, the Pokemon senses something. They all look to see a small, piscine Pokémon with a round, blue body. It has large yellow eyes with pupils shaped like plus signs, a pair of semi-transparent, light blue pectoral fins, and stubby feet. Positioned on its' rear, where its tail would be, are a pair of antennae that curve up and over its head. The antennae developed from fins and have yellow, teardrop-shaped orbs at the tips.

The Pokemon looks around.

"It's a Chinchou," Mew says.

She gets out her Pokedex and Dexter says, "Chinchou, the Angler Pokémon. A Water and Electric Type. Chinchou have the ability to conduct electrical currents from their two tentacles, which flow positive from one end and negative from the other. Chinchou can also communicate underwater by flashing its tentacles."

Mew turns to Misty, "Hey Misty, you have a Chinchou, right?"

"Sure do," Misty says. She then calls out, "Go Chinchou."

And with that Misty lets her Chinchou out. Soon, Misty's Chinchou and the other Chinchou are talking.

"How cute, they're becoming friends," Misty says.

"I wonder why this Chinchou is here by itself," Jen says.

"Who knows," Tomo says.

Suddenly, they hear someone calling, "Hey!"

Everyone turns to see a young boy running over. The boy has blue hair, a yellow shirt, gray shorts, and an orange vest."

"Chinchou, there you are!" The boy calls out.

Then the Chinchou runs away from the kid, leaving him running on the spot before giving chase as it runs off.

"That must be that Chinchou's trainer," Brock says.

The boy continues to chase after it as he calls out, "Help me stop my Chinchou!

"I'll help you!" Mew says and blocks the Chinchou's way.

And with that, Mew kneels down and grabs it before it can jump away.

Mew giggles and says, "Now no running away."

Mew then walks to the boy and gives the Chinchou to the boy, "Here you go."

"Thank you," The boy says, and takes the Chinchou.

Mew says, "And it's a good thing I think twice before grabbing it by the tentacles.

"Yeah. The Chinchou would think Mew would talk it if she tried to grab on to one of those extremely sensitive tentacles."

"Wow, are you really a Pokémon trainer?" The kid asks.

"Yeah, my name's Mew," Mew says.

Pikachu and Eevee hop on Mew's shoulders.

"And this is my buddies, Pikachu, and Eevee," Mew says.

"Eevee," (Hello.) Eevee says.

"Pikachu," (How do you do?) Pikachu says.

"Hi, my name's Misty," Misty says.

"Togepi!" (My name's Togepi!) Togepi says.

"Pika Pika," (And I'm Sparkle.) Sparkle says.

"I'm Tomo," Tomo says.

"Meloetta," ('m Meloetta.) Meloetta says.

"Skwovet," (Hey there.) Skwovet says.

"I'm Jen, and this is Amaura," Jen says.

"Amaura," (Hello.) Amaura says.

"I'm Molly, it's nice to meet you," Molly says.

And Brock says, "And I'm Brock. It's great to meet you."

"I'm Dayton and this is my Chinchou, Bright," The boy, Dayton says.

And Mew says, "Actually, we're trying to get to Bluefinland, but we got kinda lost."

"Well, that's good, because now you guys can come to the Parade of the Chinchou," Dayton says.

"Parade of the Chinchou?" Tomo says, confused.

"Will Bright be leading us there?" Mew asks, lowering herself to Bright and pets it.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket peek out in disguise and spot what's happening.

"Oh, what a delicious little Pokémon! That Spark attack is just my style. That Chinchou and I were made for each other! We both have electrifying personalities!" Jessier says.

And they look divine on Team Rocket's Christmas tree!" James says.

And Meowth says, "What a great stocking stuffer! I mean, shocking stuffer!"

Jessie, however, smacks them over the head, "The biggest shocker of them all will be when I trade you both into the boss for just one Chinchou!"

"Wobbuffet," (She means it!) Wobbuffet says,

James and Meowth just glare at Wobbuffet.

"Wobbu Wobbuffet," (Uh oh. Sorry, guys.) Wobbuffet apologizes in a sweat.

Meanwhile, Mew and her friends arrive at the local Pokemon Center, talking to Professor Oak.

"So, you're staying for the parade of the Chinchou. That'll certainly be a treat," Professor Oak says.

"Professor Oak, I was wondering. If Chinchou come from the ocean, what're they doing up in the mountains?" Mew asks.

"Well, Mew, centuries ago, the Whirl Islands rested at the bottom of the ocean," Professor Oak says, "Then, seismological forces raised them up to form islands. And so, the theory is that, back when Blue Lagoon used to lie on the ocean floor, the Chinchou used it as a nesting ground. It seems that their tradition of traveling there to lay their eggs still continues to this day. After a given time, the Chinchou that are born here climb back down the mountain and return to the sea."

"Oh! So THAT'S they call it the Parade of the Chinchou!" Molly says.

"Right!" Dayton replies, "The townspeople here always accompany the Chinchou the whole way to make sure they get to the ocean safely. And this year, my father and I were given the honor of being in charge of the parade."

"That sounds like an important job," Misty says.

"Yep!" Dayton answers with a nod.

Later that evening, as the sun sets. Dayton, Mew, and the others meet up with his dad.

Dayton asks, "Dad, is it okay if my new friends come along with us?"

"Of course, son. It's always helpful to have a few more Pokemon trainers with us in the parade," Dayton's father agrees.

"Wow! Thanks so much!" Mew says.

The Pokemon happily says.

Misty kneels to Chinchou, "Are you ready to join the parade?"

"Chinchou Chin," (I am. I can't wait.) Misty's Chinchou says.

Dayton's father then says, "Alright, the parade's about to begin!" Brings out a whistle, "Round up the Chinchou!" and blows the whistle.

As soon as the whistle blows, the water beneath them lights up bright. Mew and her friends are amazed.

"It's beautiful!" Misty says.

"It's so bright," Molly says.

And then, soon drums beat and people crowd the beach and cheer. Bright flashes its tentacles. Misty's Chinchou decides to do the same. With the signal, multiple Chinchou come out of the water and on the docks.

"Cuties!" Misty says

"Look at all of them!" Tomo says.

"Wow! There's so many!

Dayton's Father says, "Excellent, Dayton. Okay, now, you and Bright will march up in the front of the line and I'll be right behind you bringing up the rear."

"You got it, dad!" Dayton says.

Then Dayton turns to Misty, "Hey Misty, maybe you and your Chinchou can follow from the lead as well."

"Okay," Misty says. Then turns to her Chinchou, "What do you think?"

"Chin Chinchou," (It will be an honor.) Misty's Chinchou says.

"Your Chinchou says 'It will be an honor.'" Mew says.

"Great," Misty says.

Then Dayton says, ""Ready to march, Bright?"

"Chin Chinchou!" (Yes, I am!) Bright says.

Soon, Dayton with his Chinchou, Bright along with Misty and her Chinchou lead the long parade of the Chinchou.

"Good job, son," Dayton's Father says.

"Good luck, Chinchou!" Mew says.

"You too, Misty!" Tomo cheers.

The Chinchou follow behind Dayton, Bright, Misty, and her Chinchou as the crowd cheers them on and wishes them luck. It's soon shown that the rest of the group is seen in the back of the parade line as it heads into town where townspeople toss water onto the Chinchou.

"Chinchou must love water," Jen says.

"Since Chinchou need to stay at a high moisture level, it's become a tradition," Dayton's father says.

The parade soon halts at the top of a hill.

Dayton's Father calls out, "We're approaching the swinging bridge. Now stay together, everyone.

Dayton turns to Bright, " You ready, Bright?"

"Chou!" (Ready!) Bright answers.

The parade soon heads downhill and through the forest until they come to the bridge and halt.

"Why'd you stop marching, Bright?" Dayton asks.

"Do you think Bright is afraid?" Misty asks.

Dayton says to Bright, "It's okay. There's nothing to fear."

Chinchou agrees and the parade marches onto the bridge.

"Alright, cool," Dayton says.

Soon, the parade continues on the bridge.

"You're a good trainer, Dayton," Misty

"I agree. You really care for Bright," Mew says

"Thanks, guys," Daytons ays.

Soon, the parade is nearly across.

Brock asks, "Do the Chinchou always know which way's the right direction?"

"Yep," Dayton's father says, "Their instincts let them know exactly how to get back to the ocean."

"I'm sure we can learn a thing or two from them," Jen says.

Soon, they reach the other side, but soon find a large tower standing before them with Team Rocket at the top. And the drums are played.

"What is that?" Dayton asks.

"Trouble," Misty says.

"Not again," Mew says.

Jessie:

Prepare for trouble from up on high!

James:

Make it double, now hear our cry!

Jessie:

To protect the world from devastation.

James:

To unite all peoples within our nation.

Jessie:

To denounce the evils of truth and love.

James:

To extend our reach to the stars above.

Jessie:

Jessie.

James:

James.

Jessie throws off her green jacket

Jessie: (laughs)

Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!

James does the same.

James:

OOOOH! Surrender now, or prepare to fight, fight, fight!

Meowth:

Meowth! Dat's right!

Misty and Mew exclaim, "It's Team Rocket!"

"Guilty, and thanks for steering all the Chinchou our way," James says.

"We'll be happy to take it over from here, kids, thank you very much," Jessie says.

The Meowth calls out, "GET READY FOR DA CAPTURE MISSILE! BLAST OFF!" and presses a button.

However, nothing happens, much to Team Rocket's confusion.

"Uh, Meowth? Why isn't it blasting off?" Jessie asks.

Then James asks, "Did you read the instruction manual before you began your project?"

Meowth smacks at the button, "Da button keeps gettin jammed!"

Mew calls out, "Call em back, you guys! It's a trap!"

"Hurry!" Misty calls out.

"Come on back here, Chinchou!" Dayton's father calls out and blocks the whistle to call them back.

Everyone runs across the bridge as fast as they can as the Chinchou follow. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is trying to get the button to work.

Jessie says, "Come on, Meowth!"

"What's the glitch?!" James asks, angrily.

"Blast off! Blast off, I tell ya!" Meowth shouts, smashing the button.

Just then, the remote breaks, causing the missile to fire and release a net, only for the last of the Chinchou crossing the bridge to escape just in time as the net snares the entire bridge before tearing it out of the ground and landing in the gorge below.

"Can you return it?" Jessie asks.

"Now dat's what I call woiking wittout a net," Meowth says.

"WOBBUFFET!" (I'll say, Meowth!) Wobbuffet says.

Jessie shouts in anger, "WHY CAN'T I EVER COUNT ON YOU TWO!? Never mind! I'll just go get them myself before they all get away!"

It's soon revealed that Mew, Pikachu, Eevee, Misty, Sparkle, Togepi, Dayton, Bright, and some of the Chinchou are still near.

"I don't think so!" Dayton says "Bright, Thunder Wave, now!"

Bright soon launches the attack at Team Rocket.

Mew says, "Pikachu, Eevee, Thunderbolt!"

Pikachu and Eevee launch the attack.

Then Misty says, "Chinchou, use Thunder Wave! Sparkle, use Thunderbolt!"

Sparkle and Chinchou use their attacks.

That's enough to send Team Rocket flying as they scream, "Team Rocket's blasting off again!"

Dayton's father calls out, "Dayton! We better split up! You, Mew, and Misty go that way, I'll take the long way around and meet you!"

"But, dad! What if we get lost and can't find each other?!" Dayton calls out.

But his father says, "Don't worry! The Chinchou know where they're going!"

"Don't worry, we'll be here," Mew says.

"Yeah. We'll try to find a way to meet from here!" Misty says.

Brock calls out, "Just be careful."

"We'll try to find the way to get to you as soon as we can," Tomo says.

"We'll meet you at the beach!" Dayton's father says.

"I have lots of Poké Chow!" Dayton calls out.

His father calls out, "Take care, Dayton! Be careful!"

Dayton's Father's group heads off.

"Great," Dayton says, and turns to Bright, "Are you ready to get going, Bright?"

Bright agrees as day turns to night. But as the group marches on, Bright tires out.

"Hey, Bright? Are you okay?" Dayton asks.

Bright soon collapses, followed by the other Chinchou. Even Misty's Chinchou collapsed.

"Oh no!" Dayton says, worried.

"What's wrong with all the Chinchou?" Mew asks.

Dayton says, worried, "I forgot I was supposed to pour water on em! What do I do? Now it's too late and it's all my fault."

"Don't worry, Dayton," Mew says.

"Yeah. Let us handle it," Misty says.

Then Mew and Misty throw their Pokeballs and call out, "Go Totodile!"

And with that, both Totodile come out of their Pokeballs.

"Totodile, use your Water Gun and really give those Chinchou a good soaking!" Misty says.

"But shoot your Water Gun in the air so the water can soak the Chinchou to make them healthy again," Mew says.

Both Totodile agree and do just that. The two Water Guns create a sprinkler effect and moisturizes all the Chinchou back to full strength.

"That was such a great idea! All the Chinchou look good as new," Dayton says, relieved.

"Okay, Totodile!" Mew says.

"You both can stop now," Misty says.

Soon, both Totodile come to a stop.

"Hey, thank you, Totodile," Dayton says.

All the Chinchou start to dance along with Totodile. Later, our heroes are passing through a mountain range.

"You see those lights on their tentacles?" Dayton says, "They help them see when they're underwater. And they can use them so they can always keep track of their friends."

"Wow, I guess those Chinchou really know how to stick together," Mew says.

Suddenly, Dayton starts falling down the mountain side as the path beneath him gives under his feet

"Dayton!" Misty and Mew cry out.

And soon, Dayton quickly disappears into the darkness of the gorge.

Mew and Misty cry out, "DAYTON!" and their voices echos down the gorge.

Down in the gorge, Dayton is revealed to be alive, but his knee is injured as rain starts to come down. Up on the ledge above, Mew and Misty lead the parade on and calls out for Dayton.

"Dayton?!" Mew calls out.

Then Misty calls out, "Can you hear us?!"

"Pikachu!" (Where are you?!) Pikachu calls out.

"Eevee!" (Dayton!) Eevee calls out.

"Pika Pika!" (Where are you?!") Sparkle calls out.

The girls call out, "Dayton?!"

Even the Pokemon call out, (Dayton?!)"

"It's so hard to see in this rain," Mew says.

Suddenly, they hear Dayton's voice, "Hey, Mew! Misty! I'm here! I'm down here!"

But the girls don't hear him.

"Where could he be?" Mistu wonders.

Bright's tentacles suddenly start moving around.

Mew turns to Bright, "Did you hear something, Bright?"

Bright and the other Chinchou soon start hopping down into the gorge

"The Chinchou use their tentacles so they can always keep track of their friends," Misty says.

Then determined, Mew says, "We'll find you, Dayton!"

Mew, Misty, and the Pokemon follow the Chinchou. And soon, Dayton hears them.

"Hey, it's them!" Dayton says, and calls out, "Hello?! Can you hear me?!"

Soon, Mew, Misty, and the Pokemon approach.

"Don't worry, Dayton! We're coming!" Misty says

Dayton is relieved, "They came."

The group comes to a stop.

"You found me," Dayton happily says.

"Thanks, guys," Dayton says.

"It wasn't us, the Chinchou found you," Mew says.

"Wow," Dayton says, amazed.

Dayton hugs Bright, "I'm so happy to see you."

"Chinchou!" (Me, too!) Bright happily says.

Soon, the weather improves and the group is on the march again.

"The fog is getting thicker," Mew says.

"We should be pretty close to the ocean by now," Dayton says.

Well, I hope we see it before we're in it," Misty says.

Dayton asks, "Hey, Bright. Does it still look like we're going the right way?"

Bright confirms.

Pikachu notices something and calls out, "Pika!" (We're there!)

"Hey!" Mew says, and notices the beach.

Sure enough, the group made it to a beach.

"We made it!" Dayton says.

"The Beach!" Misty says.

Up ahead, the rest of the gang await.

"Hey, guys!" Dayton calls out.

"We're here!" Mew calls out.

And Misty calls out, "We made it!"

Both groups of Chinchou rush to regroup, but they fall into a pit on the beach, except for Misty's Chinchou.

Oh no!" Dayton cries out.

"They're back!" Dayton's father says in shock.

Team Rocket is heard laughing in triumph, and is soon revealing that Team Rocket is back in their balloon and have the Chinchou Parade in the cage.

"We just dropped by ta give your Chinchou parade a little lift!" Meowth says.

"We wanted to help out because, you know, everyone loves a parade!" Jessie says.

Then James calls out, "Alright, Weezing, Smokescreen attack!"

Weezing is released from the Pokeball and spreads the smoke.

"Hey, it's not so bad we left behind Pikachu and Eevee this time. At least for now!" Jessie says and laughs wickedly.

The balloon disappears into the smoke.

Dayton calls out, "Come back here!"

Then Mew says, "Pikachu, Eevee, Thunder Shock.

"Pika!" (Roger!) Piakchu says.

Eevee says, "Eevee!" (You got it!)

Pikachu and Eevee fire the attacks, but miss Team Rocket each time, and can't see where they are.

"Pikachu and Eevee's Thunder Shock won't work!" Jessie says.

Better luck next time, twerp!" James says.

Dayton calls out, "Hang on, guys! We'll save you! Bright, show us where you are!"

Bright's tentacles light up, as do those of the other Chinchou.

"There they are!" Mew says.

Then Mew calls out, "Bayleef, Totodile, I choose you!"

Both Pokemon come out of the Pokeball.

Mew calls out, "Totodile, Water Gun!"

Misty calls out, "Chinchou, use Water Gun too!"

Both attacks pierce through the smoke.

Mew calls out, "Bayleef, Razor Leaf!"

The attack hits the cage as Team Rocket laughs.

"Not even a scratch on it! Dis one's top of da line!" Meowth says.

Now what?" Dayton asks.

Then his father calls out, "Dayton, time to use Thunder Wave!"

"Oh, yeah," Dayton says, and calls out, "Bright, use Thunder Wave, now!"

All the Chinchou follow Bright's lead and cause the balloon to shake as they electrify the cage, worrying Jessie and James.

"Meowth, it's looking bad!" Jessie says.

"Dis ting is indestructible!" Meowth says.

However, that proves to not be true as the claw starts to short circuit.

"But... what about combustibles?" James questions.

Jessie and Meowth panic as the cage and claw implode, freeing the Chinchou and sending them into the sea.

Mew calls out, "Pikachu! Eevee! Thunderbolt!"

With that, Pikachu and Eevee launch the attack and hit the balloon.

Dayton calls out, "Okay, everyone! Spark!"

Misty calls out, "Chinchou, use Discharge!"

And with that, combined with Spark and Discharge, cause the balloon to blow up and send Team Rocket flying.

Team Rocket cries out, "We're blasting off again!"

"That was awesome," Mew says.

"Yeah," Jen says.

Misty kneels to her Chinchou, "You were great, Chinchou."

Soon, Misty's Chinchou begins to glow.

"Misty, your Chinchou," Mew says.

Misty's eyes wide and says, "It's evolving."

Soon, Chinchou's form changed into a blue piscine Pokémon that resembles an anglerfish. It has big, red eyes with a yellow mask-like marking around them and small, light blue pectoral fins. The lower half of its tailfin is yellow and has jagged edges. On its back is a Y-shaped antenna with a spherical orb at each tip; this antenna is a modification of its dorsal fin.

"Wow. Chinchou, you've evolved," Misty says, amazed.

"It's a Lanturn," Mew says, and brings out her Pokedex.

Dexter says, "Lanturn, the Light Pokemon, and the evolved form of Chinchou. A Water and Electric Type. Lanturn is nicknamed "the deep-sea star" for its illuminated antenna. This Pokémon produces light by causing a chemical reaction between bacteria and its bodily fluids inside the antenna."

Misty pets Lanturn, "Congrats Lanturn. You were great."

Lanturn nuzzles Misty with a smile.

Soon, the sun rises as everyone watches the Chinchou head out to sea, including Bright.

Dayton," Mew says.

However, it's shown that Bright is returning to Dayton.

And Dayton says, "Bright, you're supposed to swim out to sea with the others."

"Chinchou chou!" (But I'll miss you.) Bright says.

"Bright says he'll miss you if he leaves," Mew says.

Dayton smiles and says, "I know. I'll miss you, too."

And Dayton kneels down to his friend, "Remember. No matter how far we're separated, you'll always be my friend. And I want you to know, I'll be right here no matter how long it takes for you to come back to the island."

Bright places a tentacle on Dayton's face and it glows.

Dayton says, "Goodbye, friend."

A wave comes in and takes Bright out to sea.

"They're gone!" Dayton says.

Everyone watches as the Chinchou go farther out to sea.

"I got a feeling that Bright's telling you it'll come back soon," Mew says.

Dayton nods and calls out, "So long, Bright! Have a good trip!"

Meanwhile, further out in the ocean Team Rocket lie half submerged, depressed emotionally as well.

"This time we're really sunk," James says.

And Meowth says, "Please don't use da woid sunk, James."

"I'd love a floatie," Jessie says.

Yeah," Meowth agrees.

Soon, they find the Chinchou swimming towards them.

Meowth calls out, "HEY! Would ya look at dat? DEY'RE COMING TO SAVE US!"

However, they grab the Chinchou's tentacles and end up getting attacked.

Team Rocket cries out, "Not again!"

Meanwhile, over in Bluefinland, our heroes are on the ferry, bidding Dayton and his dad farewell.

Dayton waves goodbye, "Goodbye! Hope we see you again soon!"

"Next time, I'll challenge you to a battle!" Mew calls out.

"You're on, Mew!" Dayton calls out.

As the boat pulls out of the harbor, Misty spots a Corsola, "Look! A Corsola! I want it!"

Misty tries to jump overboard to get it, but Mew, Brock, and Tomo hold her back.

Misty shouts, "That's my Corsola!"

With their Chinchou adventure behind them, Mew and his friends leave Blue Lagoon and continue with their tour of the Whirl Islands. Next stop, the second of the Whirl Islands, Yellow Rock Isle.
