Episode 111: Octillery The Outcast

Finally, Mew and her friends have arrived at Scarlet City on Red Rock Isle, and have their site on the Whirl Cup Competition. When they arrive, they see the city is looking festive for the competition.

"Yay! We finally made it," Molly happily says.

"Yeah. I can't wait for the Whirl Cup to start," Mew says.

"I know, and I can't wait to win it!" Misty says.

"Wow, you're pretty confident, aren't you?" Brock replies.

"Of course I am!" Misty says, "It feels like the whole water Pokémon world has been waiting just for me! The winner!"

Togepi and Sparkle cheer.

"Just remember, you also need to beat me in the competition first," Mew says.

Pikachu and Eevee agree.

"And we'll be rooting for you both," Tomo says.

"We wish you the best of luck," Jen says.

"Well then, it's best we get you both register for the the preliminaries first, or you won't even make to the finals," Brock says.

"Good idea," Mew says.

"Then we better get there," Misty says.

Soon enough, Mew and her friends are at the location to register for the competition. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is secretly spying on them.

"While the twerps are getting worked up over some worthless trophy, why don't we do some worthwhile stealing?" Jessie questions.

"I know, let's grab a bunch of these Pokémon right out from under them, open a water Pokémon park and make a fortune," James says.

"And when da boss sees all dat cash, he'll respect us in a flash," Meowth adds.

Jessie and James say, "Let's get the stash!"

Inside the center, all the competitors are lining up to register.

"Look at that, the line is really long line," Misty says.

"Pika, (Real long.) Sparkle agrees.

"Which means a lot of competition," Mew says.

"Eevee," (No kidding.) Eevee says.

A little bit later.

"Next entry. Step up, please," Nurse Joy says.

And with that, Brock gets in front of Nurse Joy, "Nurse Joy, I just knew I would find you helping others as usual. And may I say that the energy of excitement of this festival is matched only by your radiance! Now then, are you here to enter the Whirl Cup competition?"

"Why, no," Brock says, "I'm here to enter into a lifelong relationship with you! The girl of my drea..."

Misty shoves Brock aside, "Our lovestruck friend here will not be competing for the Whirl Cup and I would like to register."

"Uh.. Me, too. if that's okay," Mew says.

"That'll be fine," Nurse Joy says, "I just need your names and where you're each from."

Mew says, "I'm Mew from Pallet Town.

And then Misty says, "I'm Misty from Cerulean City."

Nurse Joy types on her computer and says, "The preliminaries will take place in several stadiums. This map will help you locate them." And presents a map, "Mew, you'll be in Stadium A."

"Okay," Mew says.

"Pika!/Eev!" (Got it.) Pikachu and Eevee reply.

Then Nurse Joy says, "And Misty, you'll be in Stadium B." and gives Misty the same object.

"Thank you," Misty says.

"So, how many rounds are there going to be?" Mew asks.

Nurse Joy runs through her database and says, "After the preliminary rounds, only 64 trainers will be allowed to battle in the finals. But the number of preliminary rounds depends on the number of total entries. Let's see. Based on the total number of entries in this year's competition, it looks like... Two wins will be needed to move along to the finals."

"Two wins, huh," Mew says.

Afterwards some of the group are seen eating some ice pops at the docks.

"I don't think it's gonna be that difficult to win just two round, you know?" Misty says.

"Yeah, we'll each make it to the finals, no sweat," Mew says.

Then Molly asks, "So what Pokemon will you be using?"

Mew and Misty begin to wonder.

"Hmm, that's a tough one. We have plenty of Water Pokemon," Mew says.

"You're right, this would be a tough one," Misty says.

Just then, a young boy approaches them, "Excuse me. Are you guys here to battle in the Whirl Cup competition?"

"Yes. We are," Mew says, "Is there something we can help you with?"

The boy's expression soon turns from determined and serious to sad and teary-eyed, "Please, you gotta help me and battle with my Remoraid."

"A battle? You mean now?" Mew asks, confused.

Then Misty asks, "Why is it so important for you to battle with your Remoraid today?"

"Cause I just gotta have it evolve into an Octillery," The boy says.

"But why the big rush?" Brock asks.

"Yeah, why?" Tomo asks.

The boy introduces himself, "My name's Marcellus, and I'll show you."

Marcellus shows them a stadium for the Whirl Cup.

Marcellus explains, "Even though the Whirl Cup is a competition between all kinds of water Pokémon, the battles will actually be fought on that arena sticking up out of the water."

"A water battlefield on dry land?" Brock questions

"Uh huh," Marcellus says.

"That sounds totally awesome!" Misty says.

"Yeah. That is so cool," Mew says.

Then Misty says, "Tell you what, Mew. I'll do battle with him right here and now."

"I don't mind, but why?" Mew asks.

"You know I haven't had any time to train with my Corsola since I caught it," Misty says.

"That's a good point," Mew says.

Soon, both trainers are set and ready.

"So we'll just do one match, okay?!" Marcellus calls out.

"Sounds good to me!" Misty says.

Then Marcellus says, "But don't think I'm gonna go easy on you just because we're training!"

"Don't worry about me!" Misty calls out.

Marcellus throws his Pokeball as he calls out, "Okay, Remoraid, let's show her!"

Remoraid comes out and dives in the water."

"Alright, I'm ready for ya!" Misty says and throws her Pokeball, "Corsola, let's go!"

And Corsola comes out.

Marcellus calls out the first attack, "Give it a Water Gun attack, Remoraid! Let's go!"

Remoraid fires the attack.

Misty calls out, "Go, Corsola! Mirror Coat, now!"

The attack gets reflected right back at Remoraid.

"Way to go, Corsola! Great job!" Mew cheers.

"It's time to show em what you're made of, Corsola," Misty says, and calls out, "Come on, let's go! Tackle attack!"

Corsola darts forward.

Marcellus calls out, "Remoraid, dodge it!"

Remoraid dives in the water as Corsola hits one of the pillars.

"Where is it? The Remoraid? Where'd the Remoraid go?" Misty questions as she searches around.

Soon, a giant waves comes in behind Marcellus

"Just check out this little wave behind me!" Marcellus says.

Misty does so and finds Remoraid.

Marcellus calls out, "Okay, Remoraid, Water Gun, now!

Remoraid fires a Water Gun and strikes at it with force and the wave crashes down.

"Corsola!" Misty calls out.

Corsola soon surfaces, knocked out.

Misty recalls Corsola, "It's okay. You did just fine."

"That's great! My Remoraid really came through and won!" Marcellus cheers.

Suddenly, Remoraid is engulfed in a white light.

"What's happening to Remoraid?" Marcellus asks, shocked.

"Looks like Remoraid's starting to evolve," Brock says.

When the light fades, Remoraid evolves into an Octillery. Octillery is a red, cephalopod-like Pokémon with large, round eyes and a turret-like mouth. There are yellow bumps on its rock-hard head and yellow suction cups on each of its eight tentacles. These suction cups and yellow bumps are smaller on a female Octillery. It uses its tentacles for manipulating objects and the suction cups give it strong gripping power. Because of this, it is very hard for it to be blown away.

"Ffffffnnnaaaaaah!" Octillery calls out.

Mew gets out her Pokedex, and Dexter says, "Octillery, the Jet Pokemon, and the evolved form of Remoraid. A Water Type. Octillery will instinctively sneak into rocky holes. It locks onto opponents with its leg suckers, then rams them with its rock-hard head."

"Awesome! So that's an Octillery," Tomo says, amazed.

"That was a great idea. Now you got a water Pokemon that can battle on land as well!" Brock says.

"Yeah," Molly says.

Suddenly, they hear a sound.

They turn to see another Octillery and swim up to the three younger trainers.

"Look, it's another Octillery," Misty says.

The Octillery climbs up, walks up to Molly and picks her up with glee. Molly giggles with smiles. Octillery and Jen end up getting picked up the Wild Octillery and is playing with them. Tomo, en, and Molly laugh as the Octillery play with them.

"That's sweet. The Wild Octillery is playing with them," Misty says.

Molly giggles with glee, but unaware that one of her Pokeball flies out of her bag and hits the Octillery. And with that, Octillery ends up getting caught. The three friends land on the ground.

"Well, that was unexpected," Jen says.

"But at least Molly caught a new Pokemon," Tomo says.

Molly smiles and nods, "Yeah."

Later, as the sun starts to set.

Marcellus happily says, "Thanks so much. If it weren't for you, my Octillery would still be a Remoraid."

"And thank you, too. That battle did a lot to help me, and my Corsola," Misty says.

"Yeah, now that we've seen that battlefield, we'll be a step ahead of everybody," Mew says.

"We can also use today's battle to help plan tomorrow's strategies," Brock says.

Marcellus then says, "Your Corsola was really good in battle. I bet you'll go great in the preliminary round.

"Thanks. Good luck to you and your new Octillery," Misty says.

"Thank you. So next time we meet up, it's gonna be in the finals," Marcellus says.

Later that night, at the Pokemon Center.

"I'm so excited for tomorrow," Mew says.

Then turns to Pikachu and Eevee, "Since it's a water Pokemon competition, I'm not gonna be able to battle with you. But you'll cheer me on anyway, right?"

"Pika Pika." (Sure thing, buddy.) Pikachu says.

"Eevee Eev." (We'll be rooting for you.) Eevee says.

"That reminds me," Misty says and turns to Brock, "Brock, will you take care of Togepi and Sparkle for me during my match?"

"Sure, don't worry about it," Brock says.

"I'm rooting for you, Mew, cause I want to face you in the finals," Misty says.

"Don't worry. I'll be there. You just worry about yourselves," Mew says.

The next day, the Whirl Cup preliminaries begin. Mew is battling her first round at stadium A.

Mew throws her Pokeball and calls out, "Okay, Totodile, go!"

Totodile comes out of the Pokeball.

Another trainer throws his Pokeball, "Go, Seel!"

And Seel comes out.

The trainer calls out, "Ice Beam, now!"

Seel fires the attack. However, Totodile dodges with his dance.

Mew calls out, "Totodile, Water Gun, now!"

Totodile fires the Water Gun, and sends Seel flying into its trainer.

"Alright! You did it!" Mew cheers.

Over in stadium B, Misty's first preliminary match is about to begin.

Go, Poliwhirl!" Misty calls out.

Poliwhirl appears from the Pokeball.

Another trainer calls out, "Go, Magikarp!"

Magikarp comes out, but it's flailing around makes Misty sweat drop.

Come on, Poliwhirl! Get in there!" Misty calls out.

Poliwhirl nails Magikarp with a Double slap

Meanwhile at Mew's match. Ash battling a Shellder tackling her Blue Shellos.

Mew calls out, "Use Water Gun, Shellos! You can do it!"

Shellos fires the attack and nails Shellder.

"Way to go, Shellos!" Mew says.

Soon enough, Blue Shellos begins to glow, and shows that it's evolving. Now, Shellos has evolved into a sea slug-like Pokémon. Much like its pre-evolved form, it has a slug-like body with a round head and a mantle covering the top half of its body. It has six stubby legs and two black eyes with white pupils, with a mark imitating a third eye appearing on its forehead. A yellow stripe runs along the edge of its mantle, through its two lower eyes, and around the back of its head. It retains the head tentacles it had as a Shellos, which are now fully green and angled slightly further upward. Its underside is turquoise, while its mantle is forest green with two turquoise spots on each side. It has a pair of yellow, fin-like cerata on its back and a wavy yellow line bordering its side and rear.

Mew says, "Cool, my Shellos evolved into Gastrodon."

Mew brings out her Pokedex and Dexter says, "Gastrodon, the Sea Slug Pokemon, and the evolved form of Shellos. A Water and Ground Type. Its body is covered in a sticky slime. It's very susceptible to dehydration, so it can't spend too much time on land."

Over in stadium B, Corsola is battling a Seaking.

"Come on, Corsola! Hang in there! Use Recover!" Misty calls out.

Corsola does so and nails Seaking with a Tackle.

Misty cheers, "Alright! You did it, Corsola!"

Later, at the Pokemon Center…

"Misty, how'd you do?" Mew asks.

"An easy win for each of us. How about your match, Mew?" Misty asks.

"Totodile and Shellos were great. In fact, Shellos has just evolved into Gastrodon," Mew says.

"That's great," Tomo says.

Soon, Mew and Misty give each other a high five.

"We're definitely gonna make it to the finals," Mew says.

"That's right!" Misty says.

"I can't wait to see it," Jen says.

"Me too," Molly says.

Just then, Marcellus walks into the Center with his head down

Misty notices him, "Hey, isn't that Marcellus?"

Marcellus stops and turns to the others, "Hi, Misty. How're you guys doing?"

"You okay?" Mew asks.

"Not really. I lost," Marcellus.

"That's okay, things like that happen to everyone, but you gotta keep trying," Misty says.

"Yeah, I guess so," Marcellus says, "But after my match today, I don't feel like I'll ever win."

"You know, the best trainers, learn a lot from their losses," Misty says.

"Yeah," Marcellus says.

He then says, "Oh, you're right! Hey, guys! I have an idea! Wanna come to my house and have dinner tonight?"

"Wow! That'd be great!" Mew says.

"I'd sure like to learn more about that Octillery of his," Brock says.

"Yeah, so would I. It was so amazing when it evolved from a Remoraid," Misty says.

Everyone agrees.

Soon, Mew and the others arrive at Marcellus' house, which is a mansion, and they're amazed by the aquarium they're soon in.

"Awesome, I've never seen so many Remoraid in one place," Mew says.

"I've been collecting them from everywhere," Marcellus says.

He points to the right, "These Remoraid were brought in from up north."

And points to the left, "While these were caught in the southern sea. The Remoraid over there are from the west side and the others are from the east side. But so far, only the strongest one of them has evolved into an Octillery."

"Wonder why. They seem well trained," Brock says.

"Why do you think it's taking them so long to evolve?" Misty adds.

"I'll show you why," Marcellus says, and sighs, "Come out, Octillery."

Octillary comes out of the Pokeball and Marcellus picks it up.

"Go in and see all your friends, Octillery. Go on," Marcellus says.

Octillery enters the tank, but the Remoraid ignores it.

"Poor Octillary," Mew says, sadly.

"It's like, they're scared of that Octillery for some reason," Tomo says.

Misty turns to Marcellus, "Marcellus, is that Octillery the same one that just evolved yesterday when we had the battle with my Corsola?"

"Uh huh," Marcellus answers, "Before that happened, the others use to treat it like their leader. But that's all changed now that it's evolved into an Octillery."

"Just a thought, but since the other Remoraid weren't there when it evolved, it may not know it's still their friend," Brock says.

The Remoraid proceed to use Water Gun on Octillery, knocking it into the glass. It looks at its reflection and hides in a pot.

"Pika." (Poor guy.) Pikachu sadly says.

"I feel so sorry for it," Misty sadly says.

"Pika," (Me too.) Sparkle agrees.

"What can we do?" Molly asks.

"It must be tough to work so hard to evolve, just to have your buddies hate you," Tomo says.

Marcellus explains, "Octillery was so lonely and sad today that it couldn't concentrate on the match and ended up losing. And if things don't get better soon, there won't be another match. Octillery's battling days will be over before they start."

Then Brock has an idea, "Hey, I know. What if we just find a way to show Octillery that it still has some friends?"

"Yeah, but I have no idea how to do that," Marcellus says.

"Don't you worry. I have a good idea," Misty says.

Then Marcellus says, "Huh? You really do?"

"Misty really knows a lot about water Pokémon," Mew says.

"That's right, and I can see this is a good job for our Pokemon imitator, Mew," Misty says.

"Pokémon?" Brock questions.

"Imitator?" Tomo adds confused.

"What are you talking about, Misty?" Molly asks.

Soon, it's revealed that Mew is in the Octillery costume.

"This is great! Now Octillery's gonna make a brand new friend," Misty says.

"Misty, this seems silly," Mew says.

"You think Octillery will fall for it?" Tomo asks.

"Let's see. Except for that extra set of eyes, you look pretty good," Brock says.

"Brock's right. Just keep your eyes closed and you'll be fine," Misty says.

"How am I supposed to see?" Mew asks, and closes her eyes, "How's this?"

Mew soon starts attempting to move and sounds like an Octillery.

Then Mew says, "We should ask Molly's Octillery to help too."

"Good idea," Molly happily says.

Soon, Octillery comes out of the pot to see Mew and Molly's Octillery

"Hey, Octillery, you feeling okay?" Mew asks.

Octillery honks in reply, "No."

Molly's Octillery asks, "What's wrong? You look rather down?"

Octillery sadly answers, "All my friends hate me. They don't even recognize me."

"I see. I'm sorry to hear it," Mew says.

However, Octillery says, "Look, you may be a human in a costume, but I appreciate the help, including your Octillery friend. However, I just want to be alone."

And hides in the pot.

"What did Octillery say?" Jen asks.

"He said he appreciates my help, even though I'm in a costume, but he rather be alone," Mew says.

Mew then turns back to the tank, "Poor guy."

Later that night, Team Rocket is seen sneaking into Marcellus' house, but Jessie finds that they snuck into the Remoraid room, to her horror.

"It's my wretched, recurring Remoraid nightmare come true!" Jessie panics.

"I see no resemblance to that first grade teacher of yours," James says.

"Well, that's a relief. But you can't blame me, Miss Crabtree was really scary," Jessie says.

And Meowth says, "Perhaps when we open our water Pokémon theme park, we'll fill a lake wit dose funny lookin tings and charge big bucks to let folks do some Remoraid fishing."

"Go, Meowth!" Jame says.

"Wobbu! Wobbu!" (Bravo! Bravo!) Wobbuffet cheers, out of the Pokeball.

"Don't they make Pokéballs with locks?" Jessie replies.

And Meowth says, "Forget about dis blue blob, let's get swiping!"

"Okay," Jessie and James agree.

Octillery soon comes out of its pot because of a strange sound, and what it sees and hears are its friends being sucked up by a vacuum.

"Who says fishing can be boring?" Meowth responds.

Meanwhile, Mew and the others are having dinner.

"This is really good. Did you make it yourself?" Mew asks.

Yeah, it was easy," Marcellus says.

Soon, they hear a sound.

"Did you just hear something, Brock?" Misty asks.

"Yeah, I did. It's coming from the room with the Remoraid tanks," Brock says.

"Maybe I should go and see if they're okay," Marcellus says.

He then heads towards the room, "Hey, hello in there? Is everything okay?"

Marcellus turns on the lights and spots Team Rocket. And with that, Team Rocket performs their motto.

Jessie:

Yes everything is fine, but prepare for trouble!

James:

Things couldn't be better, so you can make it double!

Jessie:

To protect the world from devastation!

James:

To unite all peoples within our nation!

Jessie:

To denounce the evils of truth and love!

James:

To extend our reach to the stars above!

Jessie:

Jessie!

James:

James!

Jessie:

Team Rocket, blasts off at the speed of light!

James:

Surrender now, or prepare to fight, fight, fight!

Wobbuffet:

Wobbuffet! (Oh, so true!)

Meowth:

Meowth! Dat's right!

"Now that I listened to that whole thing, what do you want?" Marcellus questions.

He then looks to find the tanks are completely empty.

Much to his shock, "My Remoraid! Where have they gone?!"

"We won't nevah forget ya for dis one, kid, so tanks for da Remoraids!" Meowth says.

"Wobbu!" (See ya!) Wobbuffet says.

Soon, Mew and the others step in the room.

"What's going on in here?" Jen asks.

Mew gasps to see, "It's Team Rocket!"

"Bye!" James says as he and the others jump out of the window.

Then they head to the truck with Mew and the others in pursuit.

"They're... not... your Remoraid!" Marcellus calls out.

Just then, the vacuum hose detaches, Octillery sticks itself under the truck.

"Octillery!" Marcellus says, shocked.

"Don't worry, we're gonna get all your Remoraid back! Right?" Mew says.

"Pika!" (Of course!) Pikachu says.

Eevee says, "Eevee!" (Let's get them!"

James then throws his Pokeball and calls out, "Go and get them, Weezing!"

Weezing comes out and lets out the Smoke Screen.

James says, "Adios, heroes!"

Then the truck begins to pull away.

James calls back his Pokemon, "Weezing, return!"

Weezing is recalled as the smoke clears.

"We just cant let them get away!" Mew says.

Everyone looks and sees a trail leading in the direction Team Rocket's truck headed. Inside said truck...

"I love it when a plan works!" Jessie says.

"What does a truckload of Remoraid go for these days?" James happily says.

"Wait a sec! Don't forget my theme park idea!" Meowth says.

Then Wobbuffet appears, "Wobbuffet!" (We haven't!)

As the truck goes along, Octillery leaves a trail of water behind. Soon, the truck halts at the docks outside the warehouse right near a boat as the tank is revealed before the crooks get out of the truck.

"Over to that crane, Meowth, and lift those tanks onto the ship!" James says.

"Aye, aye! I'm on the case!" Meowth says, "Steady…"

But before Meowth can do anything, Octillery stops him.

"Isn't that an Octillery?" James questions.

"Yes, and since we're not in the business of stealing water Pokemon, why not bag this baby, too?" James says.

Jessie and James manage to pull Octillery off of Meowth, angering it to the point of Headbutting them both, along with Wobbuffet.

That is one hardheaded Pokemon," James says.

Octillery proceeds to Headbutt James again as the Remoraid watch Octillery keeps attacking while Octillery does the same to Team Rocket before it turns its attention to the Remoraid.

"Now what's that thing up to?" Jessie asks.

Octillery proceeds to ram into the tank till it cracks, catching the other Remoraid's attention, and Team Rocket's)

Meowth panics, "Oh no! We're about ta have double trouble!"

Finally the glass on one side of the tank breaks, causing a massive leak, allowing the Remoraid to escape into the sea)

"Look, James. Another Team Rocket dream washed away," Jessie says.

James says in tears, "It was probably premature to plan my retirement."

"Wobbuffet," (Same for Jessie!) Wobbuffet says.

Meowth is not pleased to see it, "Does eight-armed bandits ripped off da wrong guy! I'm done fooling around! It's time to play a little crane game!"

Meowth makes the crane start to move and attempts to grab Marcellus' Octillery as Mew and the others show up.

Marcellus calls out, "Octillery!"

"Pikachu, Eevee, let's get em!" Mew says.

Pikachu and Eevee leap into action as Team Rocket panics.

"I have bad news!" Jessie panics.

"Great! I'm sure it will be shocking!" James says.

"Yeah, well get a load of dis!" Meowth says.

The crane grabs Marcellus' Octillery, but it's suction cups prevent the claw from lifting it, though temporarily.

"Octillery!" Marcellus calls out.

Meowth laughs, "One volt outta dat Pikachu and Octillery gets it, too!"

Mew says to her Pokemon, "You better hold off, guys."

Pikachu and Eevee are shocked to hear it.

Team Rocket laughs in triumph

"A Pikachu and Eevee without any powa," Meowth says.

"Simply electrifying, Meowth," James says.

Suddenly, the other Remoraid come out of the sea and knock the crane arm into a spin

"James! Get me off dis ting!" Meowth cries out.

The claw finally lets Marcellus' Octillery go.

Marcellus calls out, "Hey! Octillery!"

Marcellus' Octillery is soon rescued by the Remoraid.

"It looks like the Remoraid want to keep Octillery from falling!" Marcellus says.

And Misty says, "They must've finally realized who Octillery was before it evolved."

The Remoraid return Marcellus' Octillery to the shore.

Marcellus rushes to his Pokemon, "Oh, Octillery. You're okay."

"Hey, Mew. Team Rocket," Misty says.

"Right," Mew says and calls out, "Pikachu, Eevee, Thunderbolt!

Both Pokemon launch the attack and hit Team Rocket.

Marcellus then calls out, "Now, Octillery, Octazooka!"

Octillery launches the Octazooka and sends Team Rocket flying.

"Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket cries out.

Soon, the Remoraid and Marcellus' Octillery reconcile.

"You were great, Octillery," Marcellus happily says.

Brock says to Marcellus, "You don't have to worry about Octillery being lonely anymore."

"And the two of you will be ready for the next Whirl Cup competition," Mew says.

Thank you guys, so much!" Marcellus happily says.

Suddenly, all the Remoraid start glowing.

They're all starting to evolve!" Brock says, amazed.

And indeed they do evolve.

"Hey, check em out!" Brock says.

"And just when they realized you don't have to look the same to be friends, they all do," Misty says.

"Yeah, I betcha they knew their friendship was so important that they should all evolve together," Marcellus says.

The next day, all the Whirl Cup competitors are gathered as whirlpools form and drain the water surrounding the stadium, revealing it.

Pikachu and Eevee are amazed.

"That's it. I can't believe we're here," Mew says.

"The Whirl Cup," Misty adds.

"It's awesome," Jen says.

The Whirl Cup Competition is underway, and Mew and May are determined to win as they look over the competition and are excited to to compete.
