Scott pulled his car into the driveway of the institute with Jean in the passenger seat. Danny was next to them on his moped. It was Friday and they just got back from school.
After parking his car, Scott hopped out excitedly. "Oh, yeah. Let the weekend begin. Woohoo!" He headed into the institute.
"Wait!" Jean held up his backpack. "You're forgetting your homework." Scott didn't respond as he went into the mansion, making Jean frown. "Make that ignoring it."
Danny chuckled as he went inside as well. "Looks like I'm rubbing off on him after all."
Jean rolled her eyes as she exited the car when she heard the rustling of tree branches.
"Hello." Jean said as she saw a figure drop from a tree and into a bush. Jean walked forward, thinking it was one of her friends. "Kitty, are you climbing trees again?" She pushed past the bush to see the figure hop away. "Evan, is that you?"
Seeing someone hiding behind a bush, Jean used her telekinesis to uproot it, revealing a crouching Toad.
Toad glared at her in anger due to not being able to use stealth anymore. "Oh, so that's the way you wanna play, huh?" He hopped over her and grabbed a tree branch to use as a weapon.
"Toad, what are you doing?" Jean asked before Toad used the branch to hit her legs, knocking her to the ground.
"Getting a jump on the competition, yo." Toad responded. "You want some of this?" He was about to swing it again when Jean used her telekinesis to prevent the branch from making contact with her.
"Toad, what are you trying to prove?" Jean asked, getting frustrated with his antics as she pushed him back.
"That I'm a champ, not a chump, yo." The smelly boy answered. "And guess what? We all gotta prove it." He prepared for another swing.
"Would you knock it off?" Jean used her powers to grab the branch and snap it in two.
Toad wasn't deterred. "Can't throw a toad away?" He hopped onto a tree and then proceeded to try and tackle Jean, but the telepath threw him into a well.
She then went up to the well. "Toad?" Before she could get an answer, she heard a sudden noise behind her. Turning around, she was greeted with a giant silver floating orb that landed on the ground. As Jean approached it, the orb opened up, and tentacles came out and dragged her inside before it closed and floated back up into the air.
Toad used his tongue to climb back up the well and saw the orb take off.
"No, it wasn't over." He begged. "I could've still won. It should've been me! Me!" He cried out to the sky above him.
It was a sunny day in Hawaii, but then again, in that state, pretty much every day is a sunny day. And one teenager was taking advantage of the weather to go surfing. As he was exploring the waters, his two friends came to the beach to look for him.
"Alex!" One of the boys called. He looked around but couldn't find any trace of him. "I don't see him."
"There he is." The other boy pointed to Alex, who was lying on his stomach on the surfboard. "Lounging, the bum." He joked.
"Wanna paddle out there?" The first boy asked.
"He looks like he just wants to be left alone." The second boy said. "We'll catch up to him later."
The two boys left as Alex laid down on his surfboard. Alex looked like a typical wannabe surfer dude, with tanned skin and long blonde hair, and had a very relaxed personality to match.
As he was lying on his board, absorbing the sunlight, he felt something hit the back of his board. Looking around, he felt another tap on the board, causing him to fall off and into the water, where he was confronted with the perpetrator. A shark.
Alex tried to get back on his board, but he slipped and fell deeper into the water. Seeing the shark charging at him, Alex put his hands in front of him in a vain attempt to protect himself when two red blasts came out of his hands and blasted the shark. Alex looked at his hands in disbelief, wondering if what happened was just a hallucination when he saw the shark coming back.
He aimed his hands at the shark, and like before, two red blasts hit the shark, forcing it to retreat. Alex swam back up as he floated in the water. He looked at his hands, which were glowing with red energy, before the energy faded away.
"What?" He asked himself, wondering how this was possible.
Logan entered the main computer room, where Xavier was connected to the newly updated Cerebro.
"So the new Cerebro is online." Logan observed.
"Yes." Xavier replied. "It has pinpointed the emergence of a new mutant, only partially developed."
"Yeah?" Logan saw Cerebro display a visual on Alex. "So, what's the emergency?"
"His name is Alex Masters, once known as Alex Summers, Scott's brother." Xavier revealed.
"Brother?" Logan asked in confusion. "I thought Scott was the only one who survived that plane crash." He remembered the tragic incident in which they found Scott all alone and crying at the loss of his family.
"Yes. So did I." Xavier said. "And so does Scott. Have him meet us in the hangar. We're flying to Hawaii." As Logan went to go get Scott, Xavier had one more thing to say.
"Oh, and Logan, let's be prepared for trouble. I doubt we're the only ones who have an interest in this young man."
Back in Hawaii, Alex was on the shore, wondering what was happening to him. "Man." He murmured to himself. "What is going on with me?"
He laid down to try and figure this out when he felt the shadow of another person loom over him.
Alex opened his eyes to see a shadowy, caped figure standing over him.
"I know the kind of pain you're feeling, Alex." The figure said. "I once had it myself."
"What?" Alex got up in shock. "Where did you come from?"
"I've just arrived to see you because I know-" The figure was interrupted by an indignant Alex.
"You don't know nothing, man!" Alex snapped as he backed away from the figure. "Just back off!" He turned around to go about the rest of his day. "Creep." He mumbled.
"Your bones, they burn." The figure stated. "Your hands ache. The pressure in your head." Alex stopped as this man was saying the exact things that he was feeling. Word for word.
"I can give you relief and answers." The figure offered. "You never have to feel pain again."
"You some kind of doctor?" Alex asked, curious about how he knew these things.
"No, Alex." The figure said as he floated into the air. "I am Magneto. And I have come to offer you sanctuary."
He offered his hand to the boy.
Logan was preparing the Blackbird for takeoff when he saw Scott approach the professor outside in the hangar. He could see Scott drop his stuff in shock at the revelation that his brother was alive.
"What?" Scott asked. "My little brother? He's... He's..."
"Alive, Scott." Xavier finished. "Alex is alive."
Scott couldn't believe this. All this time, he thought his little brother had perished along with his parents, but he didn't. He was alive. He was here, and they were going to get him. "Oh, man. I thought he was gone! Or I would've been out looking for him!" He was hit with the guilt that while he had been living the good life here, his brother could've been possibly suffering alone.
"I should've been looking for him!" He scolded himself. "I mean, I just accepted it! Why didn't I-"
"Easy, Scott." Xavier told him. "Take a breath." He put a hand on his student's shoulder. "Don't blame yourself."
"But all this time..." Scott wondered what Alex could've been doing for all these years. "Where's he been?"
"Hawaii." Xavier answered.
Just then, Danny entered the hangar, wondering what was going on.
"Oh, hey guys, where you going?" Danny asked, as he just got back and wasn't aware of Scott's brother like the others were.
"We're going to get my little brother." Scott urged. "Let's go! Come on, Danny!" Scott said as he got on the jet.
Danny shrugged as he followed Scott while Xavier used the specially installed ramp to get himself on board.
A couple minutes later, Rogue, Kitty, and Evan all came down to the hangar, expecting to join the others, only to find the Blackbird taking off with Logan, Xavier, Danny, and Scott.
"Hey, what's the sitch?" Evan complained. "I thought we were Hawaii-bound."
Kurt then teleported in front of them, wearing beach clothes and carrying a surfboard. "Here I am, ready to give my all to the cause. Hula, hula." He then noticed their annoyed looks before turning around to see that the Blackbird was gone.
"Oh, man!" Kurt exclaimed in disappointment.
"We got totally ditched." Rogue said.
"Hey, you can't blame Scott." Kitty defended. "Meeting a brother he hasn't seen in ten years, I wouldn't want a crowd either. No way."
"Though I wonder why Danny was brought along." Rogue wondered.
Kurt then snapped his fingers as he got an idea. "Hey, I'm thinking. Hawaii, not the only beaches in the world, right?" His response was a bunch of blank looks. "Hello? Road trip, anyone?"
A stray cat was wandering around the institute as it found itself in front of the garage door. It then opened, scaring the cat off as Kurt drove the X-Van out with Kitty and Evan riding with him.
The trio then turned to see Rogue running toward them.
"Hustle it up, Rogue, before Auntie O shows up and dry-docks our plans." Evan urged.
Rogue was about to get to the car when she almost tripped on the stary cat as it scurried past her. "Shoo!" She scolded the animal as she got into the van. "I hate cats." She said to herself before she buckled up. "I couldn't find Jean, so I left her a note." She told the others.
They then left the institute as the cat watched them before shifting into Mystique.
She pulled out a walkie-talkie. "Change of plans. They're on the move."
"Not for long." Came Avalanche's voice on the other end.
"So why did you want me to come, Scott?" Danny asked as they rode the Blackbird to Hawaii.
Scott rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "Well, I haven't seen my brother so long, and I just..." He tried to think of the next words to say without sounding sappy. "I was wondering if you could be there with me when I meet him." Scott confessed. "I don't know if I can face him after all these years of not looking for him." He admitted.
Danny could understand. He would feel the same way if he found out that his friends and family were still alive. "Hey, no problem, Scott." Danny told him. "I'm sure your brother won't be angry with you all but rather be excited to see you again. He's lucky to have a cool guy like you as a brother."
Scott felt touched by Danny's words as the two bumped their fists.
It wasn't long until the Blackbird landed on the same beach Alex was at earlier.
Scott and Danny went up to the cockpit with Logan and Xavier.
"You see anything?" Scott asked.
"No." Logan answered. "And the tide's coming in. This cove will be underwater in an hour."
"Take a closer look around." Xavier ordered as Danny, Logan, and Scott left the Blackbird and explored the beach for any clues to Alex's whereabouts.
Scott looked around and found a surfboard.
"You think it's his?" He asked Danny.
"Maybe." Danny said. "But then again, this is Hawaii. For all we know, that could be anyone's surfboard.
Logan looked at the sand and found some tracks. Following them, he finds that they disappear in the middle of the beach.
"Looks like company dropped in on him, literally." Logan said. "And left the same way."
"What kind of company?" Danny asked.
"Magneto." Logan answered as he looked around for any trace of the mutant.
"Who?" Scott asked, but Logan didn't answer; he simply stared at the hills above them.
"Logan, who's Magneto?" Danny asked, wondering if they'll have to battle someone to find Scott's brother.
"I got a feeling you're about to find out." Logan told them.
Back in the Blackbird, Xavier was reaching out to Magneto telepathically.
'I know you're here, Magneto.' He said. 'I can sense it. Show yourself.'
Just then the jet started to move as Logan, Danny, and Scott watched the jet take off into the sky.
"It's him!" Logan ran to the jet and managed to grab onto one of its wheels before it left. Leaving the two teenagers alone.
"What just happened?" Danny asked.
Before Scott could give an answer, he felt a shadow over him and looked up to see Alex standing up on a hill.
"Alex?" Scott asked himself quietly before finding his voice. "Alex, is it really you?"
"Scott?" Alex said in confusion before his face lit up. "Scott!"
The two brothers ran toward each other as they embraced in a hug. Danny couldn't help but smile at the reunion. A part of him wished that his sister was still alive, but he knew that she was forever gone.
Still, he was glad that Scott wasn't the only one of his family left.
"Man, it's like you came back from the dead!" Alex said as he hugged his brother. "I've had dreams just like this."
"Me too!" Scott confessed. He then pulled back to take a closer look at his brother. "Wow! Man, this one's real, though. And look at you." He said at seeing how much his brother had grown over the years. "What happened to that scrawny little kid I used to pick on?"
"Oh, hey, that reminds me." Alex gave a playful punch to Scott's shoulder. "I owed you that for ten years."
Scott rubbed his shoulder while still grinning. "And you still hit like a girl."
"Believe me, bro, there's more to this punch than you know." Alex said, subtly referring to his mutant powers.
Scott then remembered he wasn't alone as he gestured for Danny to meet his brother.
"Danny, I'd like to introduce you to my brother Alex." Scott said.
"Nice to meet you." Danny said as he offered his hand to Alex.
Alex shook his hand. "Same here." He turned his attention back to Scott. "I still can't believe it. When Magneto told me you were showing up, I-"
Danny cut him off. "Wait. Magneto? You're with him?" He asked. "That guy just kidnapped our professor."
"No, no, no." Alex said. "You got it wrong. He told me all about it. He just wants to show him something." Alex started walking toward a hill. "Come here for a sec." He waved for Danny and Scott to follow him. "He wants to show all of us." Alex told them as he climbed up the rocky hill.
"All?" Scott asked as he and Danny shared an uncertain look.
"Yeah. You know, mutants." Alex answered as they all finished climbing. "He told me you were one. And guess what? So am I. See. Check this out." He raised his hands as they glowed with the same red energy from before. "I couldn't believe it. I got these powers growing inside of me. Man, I was freaked out until Magneto clued me in. He's great, Scott. He knows so much."
"This is totally not suspicious." Danny mumbled to himself sarcastically, thinking that Alex was being manipulated.
"He wants to meet with us." Alex told the two. "That's all. I'm going. I mean, how could I not?" Alex began walking in the direction of a metal orb, the same one that took Jean. "But you gotta come too, okay?"
Scott pointed at the orb. "That thing there, it'll take us to Magneto?" He asked curiously, with some caution in his voice.
"More like it'll take us to the Tall Man." Danny said as the orb reminded him of the ones from the movie Phantasm. He looked at Scott. "Scott, I don't think this is a good idea." Danny told him, feeling like they were walking into a trap.
"Yeah." Scott said, agreeing with Danny's assumption. "Alex, I don't think we should do this." He said to his brother, not wanting to put him in harm's way.
"Oh, come on, Scott." Alex argued, thinking Scott was being overprotective, like he was back when they were kids. "It's not that bad. I'll show you." He hopped into the orb.
"See?" Alex said. "Nothing bad's happening?" Alex assured him. "Now come on, I'm sure Magneto would like to meet you guys."
Scott and Danny were uneasy about getting in.
"Do you think we should do this?" Danny asked.
"I don't know." Scott answered. "But this may be the only way to find Professor X." He went to get in the orb with his brother as Danny hesitated.
Eventually, the hybrid realized he wasn't going to find the professor if he just stood here all day. "Fine." He sighed as he joined the two brothers in the orb as it slowly lifted off the ground before zooming to its destination.
Wolverine was hanging onto the wing of the Blackbird for dear life as Xavier was trying to take back control of the jet.
"Charles, relax." Magneto's voice said to the professor. "I am in control." He said in a voice that he thought would reassure his old friend.
"What is this about, Magneto?" Xavier demanded.
"I am simply taking steps to ensure our survival." Magneto explained. "We both know that humankind will not only learn of us, but they will fear us. For we are the future. And what man fears, he tramples. So I shall be ready for them."
Xavier then heard a noise and turned around to see Wolverine impaling his claws into the roof of the Blackbird to try and hang on.
"Ah, yes, Wolverine." Magneto said. "The man with the adamantium claws. Of course, adamantium is a metal." He took control of Wolverine's skeleton as Logan's body was slammed back and forth on the Blackbird. "And I'm sure he must realize that I am the master of magnetism."
He then caused Wolverine's claws to uncurl as the mutant with the adamantium skeleton fell off the jet and into the water with a huge splash.
Logan later resurfaced and saw a nearby island close to him. Deciding it was better than being in the water, he started to swim toward it.
"Hello? Anyone home?" Storm asked. She had just gotten back and was now greeted with an empty mansion. "Professor?" She called as she looked around until she saw Mystique come up to her in her cat form.
"Hello." Storm greeted. "You're not quite the kitty I was hoping to see." She petted the cat. "Can you tell me where everyone's gone?" She asked teasingly as she left the feline to look for her friends. "Logan?" She walked up the stairs and into the hall as the cat followed her before transforming into Mystique.
Storm, however, noticed this as she turned around to confront the intruder. "Well, look what the cat dragged in." She raised her hands in the air as they glowed with lightning. Mystique tried to use a spinning kick, only to be electrocuted and thrown down the stairs as she screamed.
As this was going on, the X-Van was making its way to the beach.
"Oh, man." Rogue said as she felt the nice breeze on her skin. "You feel that ocean breeze? I've been going into meltdown here, all covered up like this. I hate it!"
"Yeah?" Kurt chimed in. "You should try being blue and furry. It's murder!" He said as he tinkered with his watch to reveal his true form.
Rogue pointed in front of Kurt. "Kurt! The road!"
Kurt turned back to see that a part of the road was moving on its own to create a barrier. The blue-furred mutant managed to turn the car and pass by it, nearly falling off as the Brotherhood started to follow them in a Jeep.
The Jeep was tailgating the X-Van as they started to slam into it.
"What is going on?" Kurt demanded.
Kitty looked behind them to see the Brotherhood. "It's Lance Alvers and his buddies!"
As Lance drove the Jeep, he took one hand off of the wheel and used his powers to make the road rise up, which caused the X-Van to jump up for a bit.
"I'll slow them down!" Evan shot some spikes at the vehicle, but besides destroying the headlights, it did nothing.
"Now, Avalanche!" Quicksilver encouraged his teammate.
Lance concentrated on his powers as he made a hill of rocks start to crumble, forcing the X-Van to take a ramp to get off the road. They then saw Blob standing in the middle of the road. Kurt hit the brakes, but it failed to stop the van from colliding with the huge mutant, forcing it to stop.
"Come here often?" Blob asked, not phased at all by having a vehicle collide with his gut.
The Jeep then parked behind the X-Van as the rest of the Brotherhood came out.
"Let's party." Avalanche said.
Logan was dripping wet as he reached the shore of the island, only to smell the scent of another person on this island.
"You look tired." He heard Sabretooth's voice as he saw the mutant looking down on him from a hill. "Hard to stay afloat with metal bones, huh?" Sabretooth teased.
"Why do I get the feeling I wasn't dropped here by accident?" Logan asked.
"You got that right, bub." Sabretooth confirmed before he let out a roar and pounced on his old foe.
Xavier was wondering where Magneto was taking him when he felt the jet turn, heading towards what first appeared to be some kind of satellite station. It wasn't until he got closer that Xavier saw that it was some kind of floating asteroid-like formation, even though that was impossible since they weren't in space.
"What is this place?" Xavier asked as the Blackbird approached the asteroid, where he saw that it housed a high-tech military base.
Magneto watched as the jet got closer before it finally docked near him.
"Welcome, Charles, to sanctuary." Magneto revealed. "Asteroid M."
"What is all of this about?" Xavier asked as he rolled his wheelchair out of the Blackbird and towards Magneto.
"A rebirth." Magneto said. "Your X-Men face a trial by fire, as do my own recruits. Mutant pitted against mutant. One shall lose, one shall win. Only those who emerge victorious shall take their place here on Asteroid M."
As Magneto was giving his speech, his recruits and the X-Men were facing each other.
Storm was still dueling Mystique as their fight started to destroy the mansion.
Wolverine and Sabretooth were currently duking it out on the island.
The Brotherhood were getting the jump on the X-Men, with Blob lifting the X-Van into the air as the X-Men fell into the sand, where Avalanche used his powers to make the sand consume them like quicksand.
"Once gathered here, this place of solitude, they can then fully realize their mutant abilities, safe from those who might mistreat them." Magneto finished.
"Magnus, don't do this." Xavier urged, not wanting Magneto to go down this path. "We can introduce ourselves to mankind as friends, not enemies."
"You are an idealist, Charles." Magneto stated, convince that what he was doing was necessary for the survival of his kind. "I am a realist. It's a dark future that rushes toward us." He reminds Xavier. "And we must face it prepared." He headed deeper into his lair, where he used his powers to make Xavier's wheelchair follow him, dragging the professor behind him.
The Brotherhood was looking at where the X-Men once were.
"Hey, man." Toad said to his teammates. "That didn't take too long at all."
Kurt teleported behind them along with Rogue as he tackled Lance to the ground, with Rogue doing the same to Toad. Kitty phased herself and Evan through the sand as Blob and Quicksilver noticed the duo.
"Time to prove yourself, Evan!" Quicksilver said with a smirk as he dashed towards his former friend and pushed him into the sand.
"You're staying behind!" Blob roared as he jumped up into the air and dive-bombed onto Kitty. He then saw Kitty phase through him.
"Yuck. Blobbola." Kitty said in disgust. "I, like, totally need a shower now." She said before falling to the ground, unconscious.
Avalanche was trying to get Kurt off his shoulders when the X-Man teleported away and on top of a giant rock. Using his powers, Lance made the rock fall apart as Kurt fell to the ground. The teleporter managed to port away, but he accidentally teleported pieces of the rock with him as they crushed him to the ground.
"I got you beat, and you know it, Evan." Quicksilver bragged as he circled around Evan at superspeed. Evan tried shooting his spikes at his enemy, but they kept missing.
"And I always speed to the top." Quicksilver said as he buried Evan in the sand, leaving his head sticking out.
Toad hopped across the beach and into the air, where he shot out his tongue at Rogue, who was standing in front of the destroyed X-Van. The southern goth dodged the tongue and closed the van door on it, pulling Toad toward the vehicle, where his head collided with the door.
"Can't say I much want your slimy thoughts in my head, Toad." Rogue said as she looked at the pathetic mutant. "But I'm dropping you right here." She pulled off her glove to finish this when Lance placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Relax, Rogue." Lance told her as Quicksilver and Blob joined them. "It's over."
"And here comes your reward." Blob pointed to the sky, where four metal orbs appeared in the sky above them.
"What is this?" Rogue asked as she looked at orbs suspiciously. "Phantasm?" She remembered watching that movie last night with Danny.
An orb landed in front of her and opened up as tentacles grabbed her and dragged her in while Avalanche, Quicksilver, and Blob got into their orbs.
While this was going on, Storm saw Mystique step onto the railing of the balcony above her and jump at her as the two women continued to fight.
"Give up, and I'll make this quick, wind rider." Mystique commanded. "I shouldn't even have to prove myself to him." She said in anger towards Magneto. Jumping into the air, she tried to use a kick to take down Storm, but the weather witch moved out of the way.
"I don't know why you have chosen to attack me." Storm said as she summoned a fog that surrounded Mystique, blinding her. "And in truth, I don't much care. This is my home. And you are not welcome here." The speech was ended by a punch to Mystique's face as Storm won. Making the fog dissipate, Storm looked over her defeated enemy when an orb crashed through the wall, and just like with Rogue, Storm was dragged in as the orb returned back to Asteroid M.
Back on the island, Sabretooth and Wolverine were still brawling as the feral X-Man tackled Sabretooth to the ground, only to get pushed off.
Getting fed up with this, Logan pulled out his claws. "Tell me where Magneto took Xavier, and maybe I'll go easy on you." Logan offered. "Maybe."
"Hey, he had it easy." Sabretooth informed his foe. "A free pass to sanctuary while the rest of us gotta fight to get in, which actually suits me just fine." Sabretooth said with a grin on his face.
"The gathering is almost complete." Magneto said as the orbs containing Avalanche, Blob, Quicksilver, Rogue, and Storm were heading to Asteroid M. "Just Wolverine and Sabretooth to go. A storm is coming for mutantkind, Charles." He said to his old friend. "And our resolve must be ironclad." He turned around and offered his hand to Xavier. "Side with me, not against me."
Xavier narrowed his eyes. "Your invitation begs the question. What happens to those who won't come willingly?" He asked.
"If necessary, sometimes salvation must be force-fed." Magneto led Xavier around a corner and pointed to three glass tubes that contained the unconscious Jean, Storm, and Rogue.
Widening his eyes at what Magneto did, Xavier went up to his students as he placed a hand on Storm's tube. "Magnus, you haven't saved them." Xavier said. "You've abducted them." He banged on the arm of his wheelchair in anger.
"A certain amount of persuasion may still be needed, I'll admit." Magneto said without feeling any guilt as Blob, Avalanche, and Quicksilver joined his side. "But for every unbeliever, there is a new convert." He gestured to a set of doors that opened up, revealing Danny, Scott, and Alex.
Interestingly, the three were wearing brown leather jackets over a white t-shirt.
"Scott, Danny, no!" Xavier said in horror, thinking that they had joined Magneto.
