Notes: Hello, everyone!

Many things happened since the last update, that's why this chapter took so much time to be finished. I was sick with the coronavirus, I got weak and isolated, but now I'm fine (don't worry). After that, my godparents were infected too (not by me, haven't seen them in months) and that just broke me. I got so sad and I couldn't write or do anything else other than cry for weeks. They are at intensive care unit, they are very ill still and I'm not sure they will survive, so all of that created a big family crisis. My cousins, my father, my grandmother... Everyone is devastated because of it.

But life goes on. And even if I don't feel particular happy now, I'm trying to get to live my routine to keep my mental health. So I wrote, and it was hard. Maybe the chapter is not at the same level that the past ones, but I tried my best for you guys and for myself. I'm glad to be able to update!

A quick warning: this chapter will briefly mention of a "friends with benefits" relationship that Dante has had in the past. Nothing romantic, however, and it was something that happened decades before the fanfic's present storyline. But as this information may offend some readers (although I thought I made the fact that Dante had a past sex life in last chapter), I thought it was best to warn you here in the notes.

Anyway, I hope you guys like the update! Leave a comment, I'm always happy to read your thoughts!

Love ya!

Chapter 14

Before Dante could even identify the invader, he heard a frightening growl by his side, and felt excruciating pain right in the middle of his forehead. His eyesight went dark and his brain stopped working. Did he faint? No, that wasn't the case. He knew the feeling isn't something new: he got shot in the head (and it hurts like a motherfucker).

When he found his senses back, thanks to his demon fast regeneration, Dante blinked frantically in an attempt to focus his gaze again and dispel the immense headache that was bothering him. During the time he was unable to access his eyesight (his eye's must've destroyed by the shot too), he paid more attention to his remaining senses: he tasted a mixture of the metallic flavor of blood and gunpowder at the base of his tongue; he sniffed Vergil's pheromone impregnating the room with an stench that screamed possessiveness and hostility; and he heard a familiar female scream.

All that information combined made him act on impulse: he jumped to his feet and run blind to his brother, intending to stop him from killing the invader.

Invader my ass: that's Lady in all her sassiness, like always!

And he was right, because when his eyesight finally decided to work again and he stared at Lady's surprised mismatched eyes, he understood all that was happening. Vergil growled in complain when he instinctively grabbed the back of his neck with force, but didn't struggle to free himself.

Dante did all that while blind, driven only by instinct and his remaining senses, and he was quite surprised to be able to grab Vergil so precisely like that. Actually, Dante wasn't sure why he grabbed Vergil's nape: he should have restrained in another way, that way wasn't usual in a fight. But, somehow, his inner demon made that seems like that was the best act to control an hectic omega. It magically worked: Vergil was still growling and showing his elongated demonic teeth to Lady like an angry wolf, but he wasn't moving nor trying to kill her.

"Holy shit, babe!" Dante complained as he coughed a little and spit the bullet at Lady's feet, wiping the blood from his mouth with his free hand while maintaining his hold firmly at the base of Vergil's neck; his brother just kept hissing like an angry demon, "Why don't you make yourself known like everybody else and just knock the fucking door? Why do you shot me all the time!? Just because old habits die hard?"

"I'm not the one to blame! You're the one that always give me reasons to shoot that stupid head of yours!" she replied in an irritated tone, but Dante noticed that she was still looking at Vergil with a frightened expression, therefore she wasn't paying much attention on Dante's distress.

He couldn't discern what exactly Vergil had time to do against Lady, but judging by her frightened state and the harsh fissure in the wall just a few centimeters from her head, his brother hasn't been merciful. She managed to dodge his slashes somehow (maybe it was a lucky move, or maybe Vergil wasn't so precise in his kenjutsu whilst being controlled by his inner demon), but now Dante had a giant hole in his bedroom wall. He wasn't considering redecorating the room so soon (after all, the bills just don't pay themselves), but he guesses Vergil didn't give him much choice in that regard anymore.

"Do something!" Lady whined when Vergil didn't stop snarling at her.

Dante rolled his eyes as he brought Vergil closer to him, leaning their bodies together and making the older one flinch.

"Stop it, Verg." He whispered at his twin's ear, who choked on the growl he was emitting. Vergil wasn't the one that acted all animalistic when nervous, that was a characteristic that Nero usually exhibit in a moment of fury. However, the heat certainly showed Dante sides of his older brother that he didn't previously known; Dante wasn't sure if he liked this side of Vergil or not (maybe in private he would find it really hot, but with Lady as their company it wasn't the case), "Calm down. She won't attack me again. She always does that, it's her loving way of saying that she missed me."

"In your dreams, Dante!" Lady protested, because of course she did.

Vergil snarled again, and Dante just hugged him from behind with the free arm. Acting on instinct, Dante sniffed Vergil's neck, and that seemed to make the older one come back to his senses little by little. He was still breathing hard and fighting for the control of his mind, though.

"Insolent human…" Vergil hissed between his teeth, still trying to comprehend what he just did. He knew he acted on survival instinct.

His nest was invaded when he and his partner were vulnerable, his alpha was attacked in a violent and deathly way; of course he would feel the need to defend himself, his territory, and his mate. The demon took full control of his mind, and it had been years since the last time that happened; the strength of its domination was erratic and pendulous, it came and went as the seconds passed.

Dante, on the other hand, finally realized why he instinctively grabbed Vergil's nape to stop him: Vergil was, in some bizarre way, dominated by him and wouldn't attack Lady again or do anything else until he was set free, like a kitty when vets grab the back of their necks to make them stop struggling. Dante concluded that this was particularly funny and cute, and he would ask Trish about it when he has the opportunity.

"Brother." Dante called him affectionately, forcing Vergil's body to turn around and face him, even though he still kept his hand firmly on his nape his arm around him in a loose embrace. Vergil still had that predatory look and still fought his inner demon, because his eyes were shining in an intense and iced-cold tone. "That's Lady. Don't attack. She is my friend."

"Pack?" Vergil asked his brother in a growl that were so deep that it was obvious that it wasn't Vergil per se that was speaking.

"Uh… Yes?" Dante was confused, but answered anyway, "She is part of my pack, I guess?"

"You gotta be kidding me…" she murmured, but didn't dare to interrupt the brothers' interaction. Dante wasn't paying attention to her, or maybe he just choose to ignore her comment.

The brothers just kept exchanging deep stares, in such way that Lady felt like a third wheel.

And that was beyond fucked up.

After a while, Vergil averted his eyes and focused his stare over a naked spot on the side of Dante's neck. Sensing that his older brother was regaining the control of his mind and locking the demon away little by little made Dante glad, but he knew, deep down, that Vergil ached to do something very demonic to calm himself enough to gain control… And Dante was ok with that. That's why Dante released his brother's neck and tilted his head a little, showing Vergil more of his naked skin in an inviting gesture.

It was automatic: Vergil grabbed both of Dante's arms hard enough to restrain him and bit him on the shoulder, almost tearing off a piece of his flesh.

Lady let out a surprised noise at the same moment that Dante moaned, drunk in the bittersweet feeling that was a mixture of pleasure and pain. Sure, Dante would feel ashamed of the sound he made in front of his friend if he had any kind of shame, but Dante couldn't give a damn about Lady witnessing such an intimate act. It was a demon intimate act; it wasn't something human. That means she wouldn't understand, right?

Oh but she did, and the way Vergil looked at her straight in her eyes while savoring Dante's blood made her mortified. He acted like he was trying to imply that Dante was his property and she shouldn't dare to get closer; it was a stare filled with tension, possessiveness, jealousy and undeniable arousal.

If it were anyone dreading her like that, she would have laughed at the person's face while shooting him or her away. But it was Vergil, the person she hatred more in the world (at least the living person she hatred the most, because nothing would suppress the hatred she felt for Arkham), therefore she wouldn't back away. That's why she stare right back at the older twin, as if accepting the challenge; she wasn't a coward and Vergil had no right to threaten her like that.

After what seemed like hours, Vergil released Dante and licked his lips, savoring his rich blood; Dante was panting and flushed, but became transfixed at the way Vergil was licking his own lips clean, enjoying the sensuality behind this animalistic act.

The elder noticed his brother's mesmerized stare and knew Dante was a few seconds away from kissing him if he didn't do something.

Even though Vergil was eager to make it even clearer to the nosy woman what kind of relationship they had, he was not going to take advantage of his brother's instincts.

Never again. No. He had learned his lesson. Everything would now be by mutual agreement (at least as long as he could keep that promise).

"Hold it, little brother." He said when Dante's lips began to approach his, and took a step back, breaking their embrace. Dante blinked to get off his little hypnotize and Vergil stared briefly at Lady with a mixture of awareness and regret, hating to see those heterochromatic eyes judge him so hard. It was a feeling that passed the moment Vergil opened his mouth and hypnotized Dante once again, "Beforehand, I think you shall explain some things to Mary."

How dare he call me by that name! – Lady bitterly though, but refrained the impulse to fight Vergil. She did want to talk to Dante about this nonsense! She could kill Vergil later.

"What-…?" Dante asked, still a little dazed, trying to get closer to Vergil again as he took a step closer.

Once again, Vergil refrained any kind of proximity extending his arm and pushing Dante's chest away from him.

"Focus." He uttered, not sure if he was saying that to Dante or to himself: because once he put his hand over Dante's muscled chest, he felt like he should just throw him to the bed and fuck himself over Dante's dick until dawn. It wasn't the moment, though; he had to focus, "Do you prefer that I do the honors and explain some details to her, Dante?"

That sentence seemed to make Dante snap out of his hypnotic horny trance.

"Fuck. No." he grumbled, also pushing Vergil away lightly, "Shoo! Let me talk to Lady alone."

Vergil stared at her one more time, then his eyes travelled back to Dante.

"Your wish is my command, honey."

Vergil smirked at the same time Lady had a coughing fit.

Oh, you piece of shit! – Dante felt his face heat with shame and his heartbeat became erratic. He knew Vergil was just quoting him just to annoy him and make Lady even more aware of their relationship's nature. But hearing that word from his brother's mouth made him feel… No! He felt only anger and nothing more! – Goddamn! That arrogant prick!

Without waiting for an answer (and clearly satisfied with Dante's reaction), and without any of the remaining animalistic behavior from before (and all his snobbish nature back), Vergil turned his heels, sheathed Yamato, and walked gently to the suite's bathroom, closing the door behind him with a soft click.

Lady let out the breath she didn't know she was holding.

"WHAT THE HELL, DANTE!?" Lady practically screamed, and Dante made a shushing gesture to make her keep her voice down; the last thing he wanted was Nero invading his room too, "Are you guys out of your fucking mind?!"

She outrageously pointed at her friend's (lack of) outfit: Dante was only in his underwear and, although it wasn't an unusual scene (Dante was shameless like that and everyone who attended Devil May Cry would see him butt naked sometimes), she knew what that implied… If it wasn't that what gave it away, the things Vergil did sure made it as clear as water.

"Hey! I'm the one that should be mad here!" He said, crossing his arms with fake indignation. "You came here kicking the door and shooting my head without even saying 'hello'!? What did I do to deserve such a harsh treatment from an old friend?"

She rolled her eyes, not in the mood to deal with Dante's bullshit.

"You lost Kalina Ann II, and you know it."

"I don't recall telling you that..." he had the audacity to rub his chin as if he trying to remember something.

But she wasn't in the mood to deal with Dante's stupidity.

"Cut the crap already, Dante!" now she was the one crossing her eyes, but with true indignation "Of course you lost it, I know you and what you're capable off! And you will pay for it, every single penny!" that wasn't up to discussion, so before he could open his mouth to protest, she changed the conversation to the real important subject, "But that is not what interests me now, that can wait. Now… What the hell is happening between Vergil and you?"

" 'Losing' is a very strong word, okay? I didn't lost your rocket launcher, I just-..."

"Stop trying to change the subject! I want explanations! Right now!"

Dante sighed deeply, uncrossing his arms and sitting on the bed ('our nest', Vergil would say) while he thinking of the best way to break the 'fantastic' news to her.

Lady is his best friend (or at least used to be, because he wasn't so sure she would put up with his bullshit that time). Trish is also a great friend, but he met Lady first and it was her who made him understand that he couldn't run away from his family's problems. Lady was a centerpiece of the puzzle that Dante and Vergil tried to put together in Temen-Ni-Gru, and that events would've been far more destructive if she hadn't opened Dante's eyes to the responsibility he had over his brother's actions. To complement all of that, Lady hated Vergil and, despite not previously talking to his brother about it, he had the slight feeling that the hatred was mutual. If it would be difficult to explain everything that was going on between him and Vergil to a third person, imagine explaining that to someone like Lady; incestuous taboos aside, she would never approve of Dante having a romantic relationship with someone that did so much shit in the past.

"Spit it out!" she ordered, irritated, already aiming her pistol at Dante's head, threatening to shoot him again if he didn't obey her, "Are you guys together?!"

"Are you jealous, babe?"

"DANTE!" she put her finger over the gun trigger.

"Okay, okay, don't shoot! My head is already hurting enough." He sighed deeply, averting her eyes in fear of her reaction, "Me and Vergil... well… It's complicated."

Well, it was the most honest answer he could give her: the situation was indeed complicated. He doesn't know what is happening between them after last night 'events'. They hadn't had time to talk about it and he knew that they wouldn't be able to keep their hands to themselves until Vergil's heat was over. She was asking something he just couldn't know how to answer (at least not in human terms).

" 'Complicated' is the definition of a math problem that we can't answer without a calculator. 'Complicated' is paying taxes. This is something beyond 'complicated'. This is 'absurd', Dante!"

Lady wasn't stupid. She understood sexual tension when she witnessed it happening right in front of her eyes. They were fucking, that's beyond question. What she didn't know was if it was just a casual fuck (probably not, judging by Vergil's intense jealousy), or something that would keep happening between the two idiots for the long term.

The thought of Dante continuing doing that made her angry, but also made her scared: she was scared for her friend and what Vergil could do to manipulate him until Dante reaches his ultimate destruction. She remembered vividly all that Dante suffered after his egocentric brother fell to the Underworld and all the tears he shed when he thought he had killed Nelo Angelo.

She didn't want to witness him suffer like that again. She feared that Dante wouldn't survive another depression episode. Nero cured the last one, he was the light that helped Dante get his mind (partially) back together and give him a new reason to live. But Nero is all grown up now, and he has his own life with his soon-to-be-wife and kids. Dante would feel lonely if Vergil messes up and leave him again – and Vergil would, because that's his specialty.

"I don't know what else to say. It is something complicated, since it is a demonic issue. And… You don't have to worry about it. It's all good."

He knew he was being evasive and Lady hated that, but what could he do? She was trying to corner him, but come on! He isn't a little kid, he can make his decisions without her permission.

Apparently, she didn't think the same way.

"I don't believe that after everything we have faced together, you will use the 'it's none of your business' card against me." She accused, and her words hurt Dante more than a bullet would.

Well, yes. They faced a lot of shit together; she was there for him when he was trying to kill himself with alcohol poison every day, and… Yeah, she is right. He isn't being fair with her.

"Sorry, Lady." He said in a weak voice, and he mean it, "It's just… I'm not even sure what's happening myself. It's a problem for me and Vergil to solve, and we haven't even talked about it yet. I can't really give you an answer yet."

"Does Nero know?"

Dante opened his mouth but closed again, not knowing how to answer that without sound like he was hiding the truth from Nero one more time. That was another problem that he had no idea how to solve... All he knew is that Nero would hate him when he discover the truth about him and Vergil.

He was sure of that.

"You are keeping the truth from Nero again. What a surprise!" She rolled her eyes in disapproval, because Dante's silence speaks more than any words.

"He didn't have anything to 'know' until a few hours ago." He justified; though it wasn't true, since he and Vergil were dancing around for a couple of days, even if they hadn't mated until last night.

"Suuuure." She said, staring at the faint hickey on Dante's neck; Vergil must've be very harsh in his lovemaking, because Dante has fast healing and a simply love bite would vanish within seconds, "Anyhow, what are your intentions?"

"What do you mean?"

"Come on! Vergil is your brother! What you did won't be a casual fuck like it was with all your previous partners. It won't be like it was with us."

Dante had an instantaneous coughing fit, probably due his surprise of Lady finally talking about their… uh… past.

When they were young and hormone driven (Dante wasn't so into sex in the past, but Lady made it seems like a fight, all guns blazing and all that) they had an agreement. A fuck buddy experience, perhaps? Call it whatever, the fact was that sex with Lady was good and felt like they were constantly fighting, which made his inner demon pleased. Dante, the human part and demon part all together, liked and trust her, and the agreement lasted for over a year.

Nothing romantic came from this experience. Dante wasn't sure if Lady developed any romantic feelings towards him, but he sure didn't felt it towards her. He was miserable, thinking about Vergil downfall and his desire to find Mundus and avenge his mother's life. There wasn't any space for love in his life and, eventually, Lady broke up their… um… agreement. Maybe she wouldn't end it all if Dante wasn't so focused being miserable by his traumas, but that's beyond the point. She broke up with him and told him to never, ever, mention what they had if he wanted to keep their friendship intact.

Well, 'never' until now, it seems.

"Lady, I don't think it's a good time to-..."

"I'm not trying to have a discussion with you about our past." She clarified before he could raise his voice and Vergil went flying from the bathroom to try to kill her again, "I'm just saying the truth. I know that we chose to pretend that it was a delusion in our teens, and I also don't like to remember it because I don't know where I was with my head when I agreed to sleep with you-…"

"Hey! Come on! I wasn't so bad, was I?" He seemed genuinely hurt, and that almost made her laugh.

"...- but it happened, and I don't like to pretend that it didn't. It's our past, and that's ok. It didn't change our friendship. But you and Vergil are twins, it will never be possible to have a few nights together and then continue life as if it never happened. So I'll ask again: what are your intentions? Because of all the crazy things you've done in your life, this must've be the craziest one."

That made him think for a minute. Well, in his driven hormonal brain, he hadn't considered that possibility. He was just so into Vergil yesterday (and today, and any day of the past week… maybe of his whole life? Who knows?) that he didn't think of the worst outcomes. He thought about it before, and it was one of the things that kept him from kissing Vergil senseless a lot of times in the past couple of days, but now…

Now everything feels so right. And that was so fucked up… Because nothing was alright. Nothing at all.

"I know it's crazy, but it is something stronger than me. I can't do it differently." Lady moved in an attempt to sit at Dante's side, but the thought of have her sitting in their nest made him so uncomfortable that he chose to stand up before she could sit; she kept standing since Dante wasn't sitting anymore. "I tried, I fought the urge, but we have a demon bond. A union beyond simply attraction or blood relation."

Lady seemed lost, and Dante knew it.

In the past, she had all the books about demonology that the human world possessed. It was Arkham's library, and it was her inheritance. She never read them tho, since her father memory made her learn details about demons that went beyond what she needed to know to kill them. Dante wasn't sure, but he thinks that she even burned all her father's book in an act of pure rage. So it wasn't a surprise that, despise always being near Trish and him, she knew nothing about demon bonds.

"Are you trying to tell me that Vergil is your soulmate or something stupid like that?" she asked with a disgusted expression.

"No! But… it's kind of is? I don't know, all I know is that's a demon thing." He lamely answered, feeling his cheeks get hot from blushing, "Ask Trish for details."

She just gave a displeasured groan, and pinched the bridge of her nose.

"You know what? I don't want to hear about it. Fuck it. I just have to tell you one thing, Mister Dante Sparda." She just pointed her finger into his face, as if she was lecturing him,"I know what it's like to have a shitty family and a hell of a complicated father, and I know that Nero's gonna suffer a lot when he discover what you two are doing behind his back. Even if you just keep thinking with your dick, just use your head just for one second and take this into account. The kid doesn't deserve to suffer anymore, his father and uncle are already fucked up, and-..."

"Vergil isn't Nero's father." Dante interrupted her, because he would have to tell her eventually, and if she heard it from Trish, Nero, or even by Vergil himself, she would be even more pissed with him, "He is an omega, a demonic subgenre. He was the one who gave birth to Nero. In human terms, I think my brother is the equivalent of a mother."

Lady laughed aloud, clearly thinking that he was just joking in a very inappropriate time. When she noticed that Dante wasn't following in her laughing fit, the smile in her face broke down.

"You aren't joking." It wasn't a question, but Dante nodded in affirmation anyways, "How is that even possible?!"

"Ask Trish."

"Why you always make Trish answer the things you should!?" She rolled her eyes for the zillionth time that morning. Then she looked him straight in the eye, much more serious than any moment of that conversation, "Are you Nero's father, Dante?"

Dante's world just seemed to have stopped spinning. He felt sick to his stomach, and he fought a great urge to scream and laugh at the same time.

"What!?" He murmured breathless, totally caught by surprise by Lady's question.

"You heard me!" She said, exhibiting a threatening stare in her eyes, "Trish and I assumed that you're the uncle because you mentioned Nero must've Vergil's, but you never told us what are your real connection to Nero."

"I'm not!" He answered, finally deciding to find de accusation funny while cracking a small smirk, "Vergil and I had sex, yes, but the first time we did it was last night. I don't know who Nero's dad is, and Vergil acts like he doesn't know either."

"Do you believe him?" She genuinely asked, because Dante sometimes acts totally stupid when the problem is Vergil-related.

Howeve, he surprised her with his answer this time.

"Nah, he is just bullshitting." Dante said, shrugging, "He must know. I can't imagine him laying around to the point of not remembering who the father is."

She nodded, rubbing her chin lightly while thinking.

"Unlike you, who slept with anything that looked at you for more than 2 seconds-..."

"Hey!"

"…-I think Vergil would only have sex with someone if he gained something from it."

That statement made something inside Dante's head click.

Of course, Lady didn't know (yet) that an omega needed energy transfusion to survive the heat, but even Vergil himself told Dante that he could gain energy by kissing and Trish being near them made possible for him to survive his heat. They explained that an omega can live without sex, but sex would be much efficient in transferring energy. If Vergil needed the energy in his teenage years, he could gain it in other ways (even if sex was an easier route).

If Dante was an omega, he would sure prefer sex to gain energy; it's easier and he doesn't care much about his moral and shit like that. But Vergil was an introvert that hated people, a truly misanthropic prick, and he didn't seems like the type of person to engage sexual intercourse when he could fix the problem another way. He would do it only if he felt extremely lust over the person (witch he supposes is the case that's happening to them in present days, as consequence of their bond), or if he love the person (hahaha just… no), or if he could gain something by doing it.

And the only thing Vergil always wanted to gain were power.

"I don't think Vergil had a past love life; or a lust life, if you know what a mean. So that means he did it to gain some sort of power." Dante concluded, hating all the hypothesis that his brain was making him think about, "Lady, do you know how much time Vergil stayed at Arkham's mansion?"

Lady frowned and crossed her arms defensively.

"WHAT!?" her voice sounded higher than normal, and she seemed truly outraged by Dante's insinuation, "My father was an asshole, but that's… That's impossible, Dante!"

Well, he wasn't happy to considerate something like that either, but they had to think with their heads and not with their hearts.

"Just listen: Arkham knew we were from Sparda's lineage, and he was a master in demonology. He knew how to gain pop's power from the tower and used us to gain it, but what if he wanted to have a plan B? If Vergil had a child that he could raise to the sole purpose of steal the demon power within him, a defenseless kid that wouldn't fight back, and…"

"STOP, DANTE!" Lady screamed her lungs out, and Dante stopped talking immediately.

He realized what he did just after he saw the tears in her eyes.

"I'm… I'm sorry."

And he indeed was sorry. He had no right to talk like that to her, because that sure would make her suffer to reminiscence, since that was what Arkham did to her.

Arkham never loved Lady's mother. Kalina Ann truly loved him, but the love wasn't reciprocate. Maybe Arkham was unable to fact was that Arkham used Kalina Ann to have a child that would maintain the bloodline of the legendary priestess whom Sparda had slain to seal the Temen-Ni-Gru. The reason for that was to have a second blood vessel: when he killed Kalina Ann in a ritual to get closer of getting Sparda's power, he was still able to use the priestess bloodline to open the gate in the future by making Lady blead over it. He had two 'keys' to use, and he used both of them.

He was smart and cruel, that bastard, always looking for power and nothing more. Arkham and Vergil were so alike, so similar… And that's why Lady hated Vergil so much.

After some seconds in which she breathed loudly to calm herself, she spoke again with an stained voice:

"But what about Vergil? What he would archive doing that? I know what my father would gain power, but what about your brother? There is no power he would gain from it!"

"Maybe it was the price that Arkham asked to share his knowledge with my brother about Temen-Ni-Gru. Vergil was manipulated by Arkham like we all were, we were all young and naïve. And your father were as slick as a snake… No offense."

The two of them became silent for almost a minute, clearly sad about their conclusion. It was a possibility, and neither wanted to think about it.

Before either of them opened their mouths again, someone opened the bedroom door harshly (as it seems to be transforming in a habit in this household).

"What's happening here? I heard the scream." It was Nero. He didn't invade the room when he heard the shoot because he knew that it was common to happen things like that when Lady were around Dante, but maybe her screaming out loud made him worried, "Is Dante being a jackass again, Lady?"

"Nero…" she murmured, getting closer to the kid and cupping his face with her hands, looking deeply into his eyes and trying to find her father appearance somewhere in his features.

"H-hey. Wha-…?"

He closed his mouth in surprise when she just stared, making him feel confused and ashamed.

Lady, on the other hand, didn't know what she wanted: did she want the memory of her father to haunt her forever in Nero's presence? Or does she just want a reminiscent of her family back to her in form of a younger brother?

For the next ten second's, nobody said a word. Lady just stared at Nero wide-eyed, analyzing every single structure of his face. He couldn't be Arkham son. He couldn't be her brother. He just couldn't! He doesn't have a thing similar to Arkham! But neither did she. The only thing Lady gained from Arkham's look were his eyes… Nero looked so much of Vergil that it was difficult to believe someone else's DNA made that kid.

Almost like she and Kalina Ann were so alike…

... To be continued...

Omegaverse observations so far:

Demons spawn only one demon per pregnancy. The twins were born in the same gestation and that was something atypical, but it was only possible because their mother was human.

Demons are either omegas or alphas, and this definition does not depend on the demon's gender (female, male or intersex). Regardless of their gender, omegas can become pregnant.

Omegas are usually subjugated and enslaved by alphas' power. The omega who tries to break this cycle, usually end up killed by the alphas.

Alphas fight with each other for territories' domination and to court omegas. The omega's heat affects the alpha as well, causing these alphas to become especially energetic when they are close to omegas in heat, to protect them and supply them with energy.

Omegas, during their heat, lose a lot of energy and need physical contact from an alpha so that the two can balance their energy levels. The exchange of energies' speed are intensified with the carnal contact, but the corporal approach is enough for this exchange to slowly happen.

Omegas that cannot obtain the energy of others during their heat dies.

As a consequence of this energy's need for survival, omegas are able to charm humans so that they can obtain energy in the absence of alphas to supply this need. Such power apply only against humans, which created the legend of succubus and incubus in the human world. (Observation: that means Vergil was able to charm Dante in the cemetery scene because Dante is a hybrid, so hybrids are also susceptible to this power because they are part-human. He cannot enchant a pure demon, though, and Dante seems to be less affected by his enchant by each chapter).

Hybrids have dynamics slightly different from pure demons: they acquire their needs from the demonic nature after their first devil trigger. Dante, however, only started to feel the effects of his alpha side only after acquiring his sin devil trigger (at least that is what it seems up to that point in the fanfic). The reason for this and more details about the difference in puberty moments between the three hybrids will be clarified in future chapters.

In a demon pregnancy, the pregnant omega/human need to obtain energy by someone, usually his alpha mate, to generate a heathy cub. In case they don't get the energy, the omega/human will be weakened and the pregnancy may suffer some… complications.

Regardless of being an omega or alpha, a dying demon has two options: become a devil arm and submit his power to the one who conquered him or, if his will and pride is strong enough, be reborn in the Underworld, but in a weaker form without the power he previously possessed. This is what happened to Vergil after Dante killed him in his Nelo Angelo form.
