I have been experiencing some serious creative mental block here. I'm not the best writer, and have just been waffling throughout these last few chapters. However there is a story cropping up into my head, like a one-shot, that would be based off Series 6 Episode 7 of Station 19 if any of you would be willing to read. It would be based off the crisis one call that Ross, Herrera and Hughes attended that episode, and there thought process after the fact. I also have another story based off the same episode, that would be a multichapter. So if your interested please let me know.

Also quick note, please know I am not American, in fact i am British, and am not fully aware of thanksgiving as a holiday as it is not something we celebrate here in England. So please don't come for me if I get anything wrong.

Anyways enough waffling, and enjoy reading :)

TW - Mentions of serious car accidents and death.

Chapter 12 - Thanksgiving troubles

Today is Thanksgiving at the station. Warren and Sullivan were in the kitchen preparing the days food, which included Turkey, mac and cheese, vegetables etc. Vic and Andy were in their bunks napping, after a night of many calls. And the rest of the team were in the lounge room watching the football. While Beckett was nowhere to be seen

"Hey guys, need any help" Travis asked as he emerged into the kitchen.

"Um no thanks Montgomery, I think we have everything under control" Warren said, as he placed the turkey into the oven

"Well actually Montgomery, could you check on the girls. Andy and Vic to be precise, there were more aid car calls last night than ladder and engine. I heard one of their calls was quiet horrific, and as Lieutenant I would like to make sure they're okay?" Sullivan said, his smile turning to a frown as he worries about the 2 firefighters.

Travis nodded, and headed towards bunk 4, were Andy and Vic were sleeping. The call Sullivan was talking about involved a multiple RTC involving children, and none of the patients made it. It had hit Andy and Vic hard, as for the first 15 minutes on scene they were alone whilst they waited for backup. Both women felt overwhelmed, and thought the could do more. When in fact they couldn't.

Travis knocked gently onto the bunk door, and was surprised when it opened revealing both women sat on the bed with tear stained faces.

"Hey, I thought you guys were sleeping. Sullivan had me come in here and check you guys were okay. He said you guys had a few rough calls last night, hes worried about you guys. And given he is in charge today, because of Becketts absence again, I thought I'd follow his orders." Travis said, pulling both women into a side hug.

It took a moment before either woman spoke, and it had been Vic that responded first.

"It was horrible Trav. There was so much blood, and for a while it was just Andy and I. We had no back up for a while, and dispatch was all over the place with sending help to us. You guys had been called to a fire and it was just us. It was horrible. We couldn't even sleep last night, there was just too much going on up here" Vic said touching her head, between sobs. Andy stayed silent, not knowing what to say. She was still in shock by the site of it all, and hadn't fully had time to process the whole nights events.

"You doing okay Andy?" Travis asked, as he rubbed soft circles on the palm of her hand. Andy had just responded with a shake of her head, she was still shocked and couldn't muster up a sentence.

"You know what, its about 9am now. Shift is over in an hour, why don't I go get you girls some breakfast and coffee while you guys get some sleep" Travis said, as he headed for the door.

"No sleep. I might call Diane. I think it will be good for us to talk to someone." Vic said, reaching for her phone. In the last few minutes she had become more concerned for her friend. Who remained silent and frozen in the same position she had put herself in that night.

Travis nodded, and both him and Vic exited the room.

Vic headed towards the meeting room to make the call, only to be surprised by Diane's presence in the station already

"I was just about to call you" Vic said, closing the door.

"Well, Chief Ross was one step ahead. She called me last night and informed me of the accident that yourself and Herrera attended. You guys were stood down after that call last night, and are stood down from duty until I clear you. Other Fire Service therapists are making the rounds to the other firefighters who attended that call last night. And as your therapist I am here for you and Herrera. Where is she by the way?" Diane asked, motioning for Vic to sit down.

"She is pretty shook up. She hasn't moved or said a word since we got back to the station. She hasn't slept either, I mean neither of us did. I tried to make small talk with her a few times, but I just got radio silence. I feel pretty shaken by what we saw, I mean it was horrific, but it seems to have hit Herrera bit harder." Vic said "She's in Bunk 4." She added.

"Okay well, why don't we go and sit with her. I think it would be good tp go over what happened together" Diane said, as her and Vic headed back towards the bunks

Back in the Beanery, the rest of the team were sat eating breakfast. The last hour or so of shift had been relatively quiet, much to their delight, and the team took the opportunity to eat together.

"Are Vic and Andy joining us?" Maya asked, plating herself up

"No, they had a pretty nasty call last night. They are both pretty shaken. Vic was calling Diane the last I checked." Travis replied

"Well they need to eat" Warren said

"They haven't even slept yet. Andy was frozen in one position, and Vic was pretty upset. I think it's best we leave them be for a bit, let Diane work her magic" Travis said, sitting at the table.

"Montgomery is right. We know how some calls can be, and had that been us I am certain that the girls would give us our space. Let Diane speak to them first, I'm sure they will come out when they are ready" Sullivan said, concerned for his ex wife and friend.

Meanwhile, in the bunks Andy was now curled up in the fetal position still wide awake.

"Hi Andy" Diane said "Chief Ross has asked me to come and talk to yourself and Vic regarding last nights call. I thought we could all talk in here?" She added, pulling the chair from the desk to sit on.

"No, no more therapy. I've had enough therapy over the last few months to last me a lifetime" Andy croaked, her voice quiet and sad.

"Unfortunatley Andy, this is mandatory. Chief Ross wants us cleared by Diane to come back to work." Vic said, and Andy sighed.

"I just don't feel like talking about it. It still feels so fresh" Andy said, sitting up placing her head in her hands.

"Me neither, but I think its important that we do talk now." Vic said.

"Why don't we start off with how you guys felt when you got to the scene" Diane said "Tell me what you saw"

"Carnage" Andy replied bluntly.

"Lots of people" Vic added

"Right, and what was going through your mind when you arrived" Diane questioned

"Well, we were alone. There was lots of noise, and shouting. We were trying to get our equipment to do the best we could, with what we had, but there was civilians pulling us to their family members." Andy said, thinking back to the previous night

Vic and Andy climbed off the Aid car. When Andy pulled her hand to her radio

"This is Aid Car 19 to dispatch. Can we get an ETA on backup over" Andy said

"Dispatch to Aid 19, station 28 is 19 minutes out over" The dispatcher replied

"No that's not good enough Andy, there's too many people" Vic said sighing. This was going to be a long call.

"Aid 19 to dispatch. We need backup now. We have a 5 vehicle RTC, multiple casualties with potential crush injuries. 1 vehicle is a bus, full of children. Over" Andy said annoyed. Meanwhile Vic was helping some of the casualties get to safe space. Dispatch never responded after that, and Andy then knew they would be in trouble.

Andy and Vic said their triage up, many of the walking wounded supported them where they could. However, it wasn't enough. Luckily for the 2 women, Chief Ross had been patrolling and had come to support them while they waited for back up

"If it wasn't for Chief Ross, we would've lost more patients than we managed to save" Vic said

"Right, and what happened when back up arrived." Diane asked

"All the people were pretty much dead. We tried but in those 19 minutes, there wasn't much we could do. We didn't have enough resources to deal with such a big crash. A;; of that was dispatches fault" Vic replied. "The dispatcher on the radio blanked Andy when she called for backup right away. She kept asking for back up and nobody except for the chief came for 20 minutes" She added.

By this point Diane was furious for the 2 women sat in front of her.

't we now talk about your thought process after you guys came back to the station?" Diane said.

"We felt horrible. Like we could've done more. There were so many young kids on that bus" Andy said, thinking back to the group of 5th graders that were coming home from a field trip.

"It was hard to sleep. We were on scene for hours. We arrived there at roughly 7:15 and we didn't leave until 4am. We were first on scene, and last to leave." Vic responded. "We couldn't sleep, eat or even think" She added.

"What do you feel like you could've done? Your not superhuman. You guys did the best you could've done with there only being 2 of you" Diane asked, continuing to write her notes.

"I wanted to be able to save all of them. They were just kids. If that was my baby on that bus, I would've wanted someone to do more." Andy said, with tears forming in her eyes.

"Well let me tell you, there was nothing more either of you could've done. Chief Ross informed me that there were several units available last night, including 19, and they didn't dispatch them to you over safety concerns. Which is utter bullshit, as we all know the more units on a call like this the better" Diane said, still furious.

"But what happens next, we cant't let this happen again" Vic asked

"Can you take a guess?" Diane asked, causing Andy to look up.

"Tribunal" Andy said, looking at Vic.

"We have to testify against the dispatcher who failed us last night?" Vic responded, sighing.

"Unfortunately so. We have to discipline them the same way as if you guys had made a mistake. Chief Ross also wanted me to inform you that you guys did amazing last night, and if you hadn't responded so quickly more harm would've been caused than good. So great work girls" Diane said. Vic and Andy half smiled, they still didn't feel as though they did enough. They still felt horrible, although now realising it obviously wasn't their fault. They felt like they could come up with better ways so this did not happen again.

A few hours later, a freshly showered Andy and Vic made their way into the beanery for their thanksgiving dinner. They were joined by Diane (Who had decided to stay) Carina, Bailey, Tuck, Joey and Prue.

The team were all sat around the table, talking between themselves, all feeling greatful for the team around them.

"Right, its tradition. Why don't we go around the table and sat what we are grateful for this year" Ruiz said "Warren why don't you go first" He added

"Right well, I am grateful for all of you here today. Especially my beautiful wife and kids, and our newest addition miss Prue" He said, kissing Miranda. Everyone pretty much said the same thing, all of them feeling grateful for each other.

It wasn't long before the team had fully demolished all the food cooked by Warren and Sullivan, leaving the team with full tummys.

They had all decided to disperse into the lounge, to catch up on the football game.

All of them snuggled into their partners: Vic with Ruiz, Carina and Maya, Warren and Miranda etc. All those without partners were sat around, just watching the foot ball.

Except Andy and Jack, who were snuggled together. Andy slowly falling asleep on her friends shoulder.

It was when she was with Jack, she realised, that she felt safest.

She finally felt free.

Its beginning to look a lot like Jandy!

I didn't even let jack speak once during this chapter, however now him and Andy are slowly becoming a thing?

Anyways, I waffled a whole lot here so im hoping you all enjoyed the chapter. The next chapter is going to be Andy and Jack centric, as Andy goes for her first scan! So I hope to see you all back here in the next few days, as I am now going to get that chapter started

:)
