Chapter II

"That's unlikely." Shawn said as Harriet crossed her arms over her chest. "Because last I checked I didn't approve of having an assistant with how to do my job."

Harriet's brow raised. She couldn't believe she found a person that she wanted to immediately hit. "Excuse me..." she hissed.

"Look." He shrugged. "I'm just stating fact. You are going to be nothing more than another..."

"Don't you dare finish that sentence Spencer." Carlton said. His voice lacing with anger.

Shawn tsked.

Unbelievable. It was only her first day in the country and she had an enemy. Just great. She rolled her eyes. "Unlike the drivel you speak. I don't give a damn."

She noticed Shawn's gaze shifting to the window. There was someone staring at them. "Actually Carlton I'd rather speak to Mr. Spencer alone. Is that ok with you and the Interim Chief?"

Both Karen and Carlton nodded before leaving the room. Harriet breathed deeply and slowly. One. She needed to focus. Two. Allow her blood to flow throughout her body. Three. Release.

"What are you afraid of?" She asked once the door closed behind them.

Shawn looked at the clock on the wall. "Nothing."

"Stop avoiding my gaze." She said. "I am not a person you want as an enemy. I want to help. I don't know what relationship you have with your father nor do I care…but when it comes to my job I know how to separate business from pleasure."

Shawn coughed into his hand.

Harriet rolled her eyes. "I landed hours ago today from England. I want America to be my home. My only home. Though I know that my heart will be in two parts of the world." If she was willing to ignore the painful memories. "So will you be willing to help me adjust?"

"Y-Yes." He stumbled over his words. "I need to see Gus though."

"…Gus?"

"My best friend from childhood." Shawn said.

Harriet nodded. "Alright. Just let me know when and where you would like to meet whenever you can."

Shawn didn't speak after that. He left through the door.

"Are you ready to meet the others?" Carlton asked when he saw her contemplating gaze.

She smiled. "Of course." Letting the interaction between her and Shawn out of her mind.

"A psychic." She questioned. "You can't be serious?"

"I'm not lying." Carlton said with a roll of his eyes. "Spencer claims that hokum as his profession."

She wanted to laugh at the ridiculousness. But seeing the look on Carlton's face was enough to know that he was telling the truth.

"Are you sure that he is just not making it up as he goes along..."

Carlton sighed. "You'd think that at first but he has helped us solve cases."

Harriet touched his shoulder. It must have been hard for her friend to admit that.

"It's going to be okay...you know. I will being watching him. And unlike many I pay attention to all necessary and obscure details."

Carlton laughed. "I knew it would be fun having you here."

"You know it."
