"I'm guessing our last stop was because you wanted to test out the healing possibilities of the hammer." Cordelia commented when they materialized in a new reality. She set Baby down again, his leash was still attached to his harness.

"That would probably be a good bet." Xander agreed. "The mental component of the control device isn't sentient according to Thor, but that doesn't mean it can't extrapolate. If I want to test the hammer's healing capabilities, the device is going to look for the nearest injured person. So it did and I got to test it. And it worked. But how freaky is it that there's an Angel lookalike?!"

"He could be related to Angel. Remember when we were studying Angelus, the Watchers Chronicles said as a human he was a womanizer. Who knows how many kids he left behind."

"Yeah, of course they might not be related at all. Supposedly everyone has a twin in the world." Something caught his eye and he stopped to watch as a woman, probably in her early thirties, talked to someone.

"Xander?" Cordelia asked. "Are you Seeing something?"

"Maybe. It's not something I've ever seen before, so I'm not sure. What do you see over by that park bench?"

"A woman taking to herself. Let me guess, she's not talking to herself."

"No, she's talking to another woman. Only the other woman seems not all here. And I don't mean mentally. I'm not sure, but I think she's a ghost."

"We've dealt with ghosts before. The teacher and student, remember? When I got bit by a snake and Willow almost got sucked into a watery grave no where near water."

"I remember." They kept walking towards the woman and the ghost. "She's counseling the ghost." Xander told Cordelia.

"Can you hear the ghost too?" Cordelia asked.

"No, just See her. But obviously that woman can both See and Hear. Her ability is different then mine."

"Your expression just changed. What are you Seeing now?" Cordelia asked.

"I think I'm Seeing someone pass over. That's beautiful. Cordy, I've never seen anything like it. Her expression was so peaceful. I need to talk to that woman. I've died and I've never seen anything like that."

"You never reach that stage, Xander. Your soul never leaves your body."

"I know. But what that woman just did is extraordinary." Xander hurried towards the woman on the bench. He had to talk to her before she left.

"Ma'am, please. Ma'am, I need to talk to you." She looked up.

"Something I can help you with?"

"What you just did was amazing."

"What I did? What do you mean?" She asked warily.

"Oh, don't worry. I won't tell anyone. It's just I've never seen anything like that. I've seen things most people can't imagine. I've seen souls, I've seen death. But I have never seen a soul pass on. She looked so peaceful. You did that. You helped her find peace. Sometimes I wonder if what I do actually helps or if it just makes things worse. But I can't stop trying. And I can't unsee anything I've seen."

"You saw that?" She asked.

"Yes. She was wearing a green dress. You helped her find peace."

"I can't not try either. My name is Melinda Gordon. What's yours?"

"Alexander McCleod and this is my girlfriend, Cordelia Chase."

"It's nice to meet you both. I've never met anyone outside my family that Sees the dead. It's nice to know, we're not alone."

"It is nice to know." Xander agreed.

"It was nice to meet you both. Unfortunately, I need to get going. But before I go, I should warn you. You're young, you may not know this yet, but there's something dark, that tries to take the souls I try to help. I still haven't figured out what it is. I'm afraid I'm not going to like the answer when I do. Be careful not to catch its attention yourself."

"Yes, ma'am. Thank you for warning us. I guess it's time for us to go. I just wanted you to know how amazing it was to See that. That peace."

"It is amazing." Melinda agreed and turned and walked down the street.

"Let's go, Cordy. We don't need to be catching the attention of something dark." Xander took her hand in his. Cordelia quickly picked up Baby. Xander pulled out the control device and pressed the button. An electric tingle and the world shifted.

Melinda Gordon hurried home to her husband and son, glad to have helped another soul. The young man had been a surprise. So had been what she'd Seen in both him and his girlfriend. Souls that shown brighter then any she'd ever Seen before. The sooner they left, the better. Souls like that would definitely attract the dark thing she'd been Seeing around town lately. When she glanced back over her shoulder, she was glad to see they were gone and she was glad she hadn't Seen the dark thing while helping this last Earth bound spirit.
