After catching a bus to Sunnydale and arriving an hour before sundown, Xander and Cordelia headed for the High School. It being the best place they could think of to find their counterparts. They stopped just outside the doors when heard a conversation going on inside.
"Reports from the Council state that a Magic user known as Rupert 'Ripper' Giles was responsible for the chaos in Los Angeles last night. He's known to the Council since his family has been apart of it for generations. He chose not to accept his destiny and fell in with a bad crowd in college. The group used to summon a demon known as Eyghon the Sleepwalker for a drug like effect. Not even the death of one member of the group was enough to sway him away from his dark path." A familiar voice said.
"And where is he now?" Another familiar voice said.
"We don't know. The shop he leased is empty and there seem to be no leads. Unless he shows up in Sunnydale, there isn't much we can do about him. Why he chose to do this also unknown."
"Well, he may worship chaos." Xander said as he pushed open the door. "Don't get nervous, we're not demons. We're from another reality. We didn't intend to stay here long. We didn't even intend to come to this reality. It just happened by accident. I think I'm sensing a theme though, when we don't have anywhere or anything in particular we're thinking of, we tend to default to a reality similar to our own."
The people in the room stared at him. Then one of the two females in the room stood up. "I hope you don't mind if we double check to make sure you aren't demons or Magic users. I'd prefer not to take any chances." The local Cordelia Chase said.
"Nope. Don't mind at all. I've advocated for double checking things myself. Just out of curiosity how is Gwendolyn Post the Watcher to the Slayer? In our reality you were a nutcase that was fired from the Council for using black magic and you tried to kill us all." Xander answered. "You wanted something called the Glove of Mineghan."
"Well, not in this reality." She answered, as she pulled out her spell ingredients. "I do everything I can to avoid black magic. So Mr Harris - ."
"McCleod, I took my foster father's name."
"You got a foster father?" Local Xander asked. "And one that you willing took his name. I envy you."
"I had to leave Sunnydale to get it, but ultimately it was worth it."
"Yeah, I'm not leaving Sunnydale. Cordy can't, which means I can't."
"Why can't your Cordy leave Sunnydale?" Xander asked.
"Because she's the Slayer. Isn't yours?"
"No, my Cordy is definitely not the Slayer. Back in our Sunnydale, we've got two Slayers. The title belongs to Faith Lehaine and then there's Buffy Summers, she drowned after the Master fed on her and I revived her with CPR."
"Why didn't you just firebomb his lair?" Local Xander asked. "We did."
"She went by herself. I got help to find the way there. I take it Cordelia and Ms. Post don't have a problem with you and Jesse helping out? And Jesse, man, it's good to see you again. You got vamped in our reality and dusted on a stake I was holding."
"Ooh, ouch and thanks, all at the same time. That happened to Willow here. The vamped and dusted part. I was holding the stake."
"My diagnostic shows you both have a great deal of power, but no evidence of glamours. You're not a demon, but your Ms. Chase is registering as part demon."
"A demon from another reality that wanted to be human merged with me. I have her memories." "And her chest size." Xander put in, cheerfully. Cordelia ignored him and continued as if he hadn't spoken. "She never killed humans, she just watched them and wanted to be one. So you don't have to worry, unless you attack us, I won't hurt anyone."
"Good to know." Local Cordelia said. "Now your theory is that this Rupert Giles worships chaos. Why do you think that?"
"He was the Watcher to the Slayers in our reality. We know him. At least one member of the group he ran with worshipped chaos. And In our reality, that particular person was responsible for the same kind of costume game, except he did it here in Sunnydale."
"Makes sense, we may never know for sure, but it does make sense." Ms. Post agreed.
"So, two questions." Jesse said. "One, why are you in another reality and two, why is your Cordelia holding a dog?"
"Answer, we're going to different realities so we can try to help people and two, he's not a dog, he's a hyena. He has human level intelligence and may some day be able to shape shift into human form. And as of yesterday, his name is David Alistair Chase McCleod." Xander answered.
"Why?" Local Xander answered.
"Because I'm a were hyena and he's our kid. Magic made him accidentally. But he's still our kid."
"Anyway." Cordelia said. "We were just curious about what our counterparts were up to. Now that we know, it's time for us to get going. And I'm hoping my Xander is right and we are done with landing in realities similar to our own. The last one was bizarre enough, but all the ones where Willow uses Magic to break me and Xander up were getting old."
"What was so bizarre about the last one?" Local Cordelia asked.
"I was a guy and the quarterback of the football team. Xander was a girl. A hot girl."
A statement that had the three local teens blinking.
Cordelia cuddled David close and took Xander's hand.
"You guys have a good life and keep working together. You can do alot more together, then apart. And stay friends." Xander advised as he pushed the button on the control device. An electric tingle and the world shifted.
