Here we go with chapter 21 is here and I'm very happy with how the story is going. A whole lot better than my original version. It wasn't bad, but this one feel so much better. And I've been enjoying writing this version.
I'm also happy with how people are enjoying this story. I appreciate the support and feedback too. I'm making sure to get this version done right. And if you all have any questions involving Bleach, let me know.
Now, last time we saw Raven's brothers meeting up together and James (Greed) offering a deal to his father. One that he seems confident will help them defeat the Soul Reapers. What exactly does he have in store for our heroes? Will they be ready for it?
Also, we saw the Teen Titans meeting up with Isamu and Hikari's mentor, Ronin. While also meeting Yoruichi Shihōin. How will things go for our young heroes when they begin their training. Will it be enough for whatever Trigon and his followers have in store for them?
Read on to find out and thanks to my friend General Herbison for his help on my crossovers. I appreciate it so much and thanks to my friend who's helped me with my Power Rangers story too. I don't own anything from DC or Bleach, just my OCs. Enjoy the chapter everyone and let's begin.
Chapter XXI
Narration
Long ago, the Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, and the World of the Living were one single world. It was a world without the fear of death and without life. That was until the Soul King himself, chosen by a higher power was given the choice to separate these worlds. By doing so, the Soul King would also create the concept of life and death. And thus, the balance we have now was born.
The Soul King became the very thing that ties all our worlds together. Without the Soul King, the Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, and the World of the Living would collapse. The entire structure would crumble. Before the world would return to the way it was, without death or life existing. It is because of the Soul King that the Soul Reapers were born and were tasked with protecting the very balance we today protect.
However, with how large the world is, the Soul Society I came from would not be able to do our jobs properly. So, other Soul Reaper factions were created to protect the rest of the world.
Protecting the areas of Russia, India, and China are the Tiāntáng Soul Reapers. Consisted of only three captains, instead of the usual 13 that we originally have, but are also home to a larger number of squad members than the ones the 13 Court Squad have. Though they aren't the largest. That goes with the next group.
Protecting the area of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East are the Caelum. This group consists of five squads. They all possess more squad members due to the much larger areas they've been tasked to protecting. This is mainly due to how many souls have died in these areas than anywhere else. Making it a reasonable place for Hollows to travel to.
And finally, protecting the area in America from the north, middle and south, is the Ebiyan. Consisting of four members, while also possessing less squad members than the first two I mentioned. With their numbers being around the same size as the 13 Court Guard Squad, but also double the assignments. This is mainly due to the many spiritual activities that go on around these areas.
Despite this, these different Soul Societies all have the same goal. Protecting the soul of the living and the dead. Fight against anyone and anything that threaten these souls. And maintain the balance that has been set in place by the Soul King.
It is this very balance that three years ago, the Quincy King, Yhwach had attempted to destroy.
The Quincy is a group of humans who possess spiritual powers that allow them to fight against the Hollows with their own weapons. Weapons made from Reishi, which is the component material of souls and all spiritual matter. Reishi is invisible and intangible to mortals, but can be used by Quincy, who draw energy from it. Quincy uses their powers to hunt Hollows down and kill them, but there comes a price.
See, when a Soul Reaper kills a Hollow, they are able to purify them and help them move on to the afterlife. But when a Quincy kills them, their souls are not purified and end up just being erased. This in turn caused conflict to break out between the Soul Reapers and the Quincy. A conflict that was led by Yhwach, who was the first Quincy and the one who gave his people their powers.
Whose very blood runs through all Quincy and who pledged their loyalty to him. So much so that a thousand years ago, Yhwach tried to destroy the very balance his father, the Soul King had created.
Yhwach had invaded the Soul Society, with the intent of killing the Soul King. To return the worlds to the way they used to be, as one. But this plan failed thanks to the original 13 Court Guard Squad. A group that back then, was filled with people who weren't honorable proud warriors. But rather murderous, dangerous, and the most violent people in the Soul Society.
However, it was this group that single-handedly took down the entire Quincy army that came to invade their home. Together, they defeated the Quincy King and once the fighting ended, began to temper their darker nature. Becoming the very people, they needed to be to bring order and peace to the Soul Society. Though, our past still remained with us.
It was also this war that also saw the need to expand the Soul Reapers. Creating more groups to ensure they can protect the souls of the living and the dead. And so, we knew more Soul Society groups were formed. Allowing us to better protect our realm from our enemies, while believing the Quincy threat was done.
However, Yhwach was not dead. In fact, he would return a thousand years later, attacking the Soul Society. This fight took many lives, damaged much of the Seireitei, and almost succeeded in his plan. He even killed some close personal friends of mine. But despite the odds stacked against the Soul Reapers and their allies, they were able to defeat Yhwach.
Thanks mostly to a young human who was part-Soul Reaper, Hollow, and Quincy. His name is Ichigo Kurosaki.
Ichigo, a human who once was living a seemingly normal life, which involved him seeing spirits of the deceased. Until he came across a young Soul Reaper named Rukia Kuchiki. Rukia gave Ichigo her powers, which in turn awakened his Soul Reaper powers. Allowing him to eventually get stronger, gain new abilities, and use them in his battles against more powerful enemies.
Enemies that would help prepare Ichigo for even stronger enemies, like the Quincy King. It wasn't easy though. Yhwach was far stronger than any Soul Reaper, Hollow, or any enemy we ever encountered. Not even the most powerful Soul Reapers could stop him, but Ichigo did.
In the end, Ichigo defeated Yhwach, saved our realms, and ensured that the balance remained the way it is. While bringing some peace back to the realms…until now.
Underground Training Room
Ronin had finished explaining everything to the young Teen Titans. He explained to them how the Soul Society came to be, the Soul King, the other Soul Society groups, and the history of Yhwach. He felt he should have told them everything, so they don't get left confused and would explain why they have more than one Soul Society. And the importance of having these groups.
Ronin even explained while the Soul Society of Japan was fighting Yhwach, the other Soul Society groups were fighting the rest of the Quincy army. It was revealed that Yhwach had the majority of his army invade the other Soul Societies and prevent them from aiding the other Soul Reapers. This was a success, but in the end, Yhwach and his forces lost the war.
"Now then, any questions?" Ronin asked as he stood by with Yoruichi sitting next to him with her arms crossed and eyes closed.
The Titans all are seen seated in front of the two Soul Reapers and all clearly are trying to take in everything they were told. They knew about the Soul Society, the Soul Reapers, Hueco Mundo, and the Hollows. But this…all of this was a bit too much. And are trying to process it all slowly.
After a minute of silence, Robin was the first to speak up. "So, there's more than one group of Soul Reapers that are in charge of their own areas. Like the Green Lantern Corps."
Ronin nods in response. "Except instead of a ring choosing you, if you have a high enough spiritual pressure, then the Soul Reapers will welcome you to join them. Of course, this is only after you die and move on."
"Of course," said Robin as he remembers how Isamu and Hikari had told the others they're substitute Soul Reapers, not part of the 13 Court Guard Squad. "Isamu told us that since they're still alive with their own bodies, they don't work for the Soul Society directly but are given permission to work around as a Soul Reaper."
"That's right," said Yoruichi as she confirms what Robin said. "Ichigo when he became a Soul Reaper was done after Rukia Kuchiki gave him her powers, while unknowingly awakening Ichigo's hidden Soul Reaper powers.
Neither Ichigo nor Rukia knew that the young man was part-Soul Reaper. So, when Rukia's own powers were transferred to Ichigo, it awakened the powers within him. Allowing him to gain his own Zanpakutō, while gaining his Hollow powers as well. And as time passed, would even find out about his own Quincy origin.
Despite Rukia's good intentions, it was forbidden for a Soul Reaper to do what she did. So, Ichigo was considered an enemy and Rukia was arrested for her crimes. But despite this, Ichigo and his friends risked their lives to save Rukia. And after the whole Sosuke Aizen incident, Ichigo was welcomed by the Soul Reapers as an ally.
"Well, I appreciate your honesty, Lady Yoruichi and Mr. Suzuki," said Robin who is thankful the two Soul Reapers before them didn't seem to be hiding anything else.
"Well, first off Mr. Ronin or just Ronin will do," said Ronin as he prefers to be called by his first name than anything else. "And secondly, we're happy to tell you anything else that's on your mind."
"Oh, oh, oh!" Beast Boy raised his hand as he had a question to ask.
"Hmm? Oh, Beast Boy, right?" Ronin asked as he points towards the green shapeshifter. "You have something on your mind?"
"Um yes sir," said Beast Boy as he stood up and asks his question. "Um I was wondering, after what happened, why didn't you ask this Ichigo Kurosaki wasn't asked to come here to help us against Trigon?"
Cyborg nods in agreement with the question as he spoke up next. "Yeah, I mean I know we can hold our own in a fight and we appreciate you guys coming down to help us out. But wouldn't it be better if you all brought some of the Soul Reapers from the other Soul Society down to help?"
"But friends, surely you want to train to get stronger and help fight against Trigon's children, right?" Starfire asked who didn't understand why her two friends are trying to back down from getting stronger.
"It's not that we don't want to, Star. Believe us," said Cyborg as he looks down at his mechanical hands. "I would give to get more power so I could better protect our home and you all, but…these guys are beyond anything we've ever gone up against."
"Cy's right," said Beast Boy who agrees with his mechanical friend. "We got our butts kicked by Slade, twice. We got our butts kicked by those demon ghosts, then by Raven's brothers…I don't know, I just don't know if we can get any stronger," that was until the green shapeshifter figured how they can get stronger.
"Well, first off, I'm afraid after what he went through with his last fight with the Quincy King, we decided to let him take a much-needed-break," Ronin knew the poor boy has been through so much and didn't want to add another thing to his already busy plate.
"Plus, Ronin here is confident Isamu and Hikari will be able to handle Trigon's minions," said Yoruichi who didn't want to put the fate of the world again on Ichigo's shoulders. He's been through enough. "However, after what happened, it's obvious we need to whip you all into shape. That's why we're here and that's why very soon members of the Soul Society of the Ebiyan will be here."
"The Soul Reapers of the Ebiyan…how strong are they?" Raven asked wondering the strength level of these Soul Reapers of America.
"Well, let me put it this way. Our Soul Society ended up losing almost 70% of our squad members, two of our captains died, three were forced to become zombies, and we hadn't even fought against Yhwach yet," said Yoruichi as she explains what they had to go through and how much damage they suffered. "While the other three Soul Societies, they only lost between 10-30% of their squad members, lost no captains, and had eliminated the enemy within 48 hours since they were invaded."
The Titans all looked on shocked with what they were just told. From the sound of it, the Soul Society in Japan got hit hard. But the other locations, they didn't lose a lot of their own. It also sounds like they handled the invasion better than their allies did. Although, it could be perhaps it was because the more powerful Quincy forces were fighting the Soul Society in Japan.
"Wow. These guys sound…scary," said Beast Boy as he got a little intimated with how strong these other Soul Reapers are.
"They are and with some help from them, you guys will get stronger too," said Ronin as he explains how they'll help the kids get stronger.
"Really?" Beast Boy asked as he got excited with the idea of them getting powers. "Does this mean you guys are going to make us into Soul Reapers too?"
Yoruichi begins to chuckle softly before walking over to Beast Boy and pets his head. "Sorry, but you two don't have a strong enough spiritual pressure to become one."
This shattered the poor Beast Boy as he lowered his head in disappointment. While Yoruichi still pets his head, not realizing what she did.
"For real?" Cyborg asked as he looks disappointed too. "Even with us able to see spirits and sense their presence, we're not there yet?"
"I'm afraid so," said Raven as she stood up and walks over to Cyborg. "Isamu and Hikari had their Soul Reaper powers passed on from their powers, who I can presume were Soul Reapers. They make sense and the training they went through helped give them the ability to gain access to their powers."
Raven begins turning to Cyborg, Beast Boy, Starfire, and Robin as she can sense their strength level. "I'm afraid out of the five of us, Robin and I are the only ones whose spiritual pressure is strong enough to achieve these powers. Though I don't think I'd be interested in them."
"Well, well, looks like Isamu taught you well," said Yoruichi who's impressed with Raven's ability to sense her friend's full strength, both physically and spiritually. "She's right. You guys don't have the strength needed to become Soul Reapers…however, it doesn't mean there's other ways for you guys to get your own powers in other ways."
"Wait! Are you serious?" Starfire asked as she got excited. "Does this mean you'll help us get stronger? Strong enough to defeat Raven's brothers?"
"And hold your own against whatever tricks Slade has up his sleeve, yes," said Ronin as he lifts his index finger up. "That's why we're here. To help get you all get stronger."
Ronin then begins moving his arms apart and speaks loudly as his voice echoes around the underground training facility. "And that's why we had this place build! To help you all train without worrying about anyone finding out what you're doing and to go all out without worrying about holding back."
Ronin then begins moving his arms down and begins pointing at the Titans. "And I guarantee in one month, you five will have the strength needed to be ready for Raven's brothers. Along with anything else they throw at you."
"A month? We have to train here for a month?" Raven asked while she looks on confused. "B-But what if Slade attacks the city? What if my brothers attack the city? We can't stay here and let the others fight on their own. We should…"
In an instant, Ronin appeared in front of Raven and placed his right hand on her head, cutting her off. "Calm down, Raven. Please, have faith in Isamu and Hikari. Those two will keep your city safe and will make sure no harm comes to the people. We promise it'll all be okay."
Raven looks up at Ronin, with a shocked look on her face. H-How did he do that? Was that Flash Step? If it is, it was a lot faster than Lady Yoruichi's. I blinked for a second and he was gone. Raven thought as she couldn't believe how fast the 8ft tall elderly man was.
"Now then, the training you all will go through won't be easy and it'll be dangerous," said Ronin as he tells the Titans how difficult the training will be. "It won't be as bad as what I put Isamu and Hikari through, but you'll need to be ready for it. I'll understand though if you all don't wish to take part in the training. This all entirely up to you."
Yoruichi nods in agreement before she spoke up. "Ronin is right. We aren't forcing you to take part in this training. We're merely offering it to you in order to prepare you for the war that's still to come. This is all your choice, and no one will think differently if you say no."
Yoruichi then lifts her left index finger and continues to speak. "However, keep this in mind. If you agree to take part in the training, then don't expect us to go easy on you. While its true, we won't push you as much as Isamu and Hikari went through, it doesn't mean we'll be soft either. We'll push you hard, even past your limits, and we won't stop until you all get to the level you need to be ready."
Yoruichi then begins pointing towards Raven. "Even you. You have a lot of potential, Raven. A lot of hidden potential that is just waiting to be unleashed. I know you're afraid of the power you possess, but unless you really want to protect your friends, then you'll need to throw out those fears, and be prepared for the danger that'll come your way."
Ronin makes it clear that once they have the power, then they'll also have a responsibility to fight against the things that go bump in the night. From the Hollows to anything of the supernatural. The power they'll be given will help them be a match for these future enemies. Starting with Trigon and his followers.
"But again, as we said. This is all entirely up to you. All of you," said Ronin who wasn't looking to push these kids to join in the training if they don't want to. "However, if you agree to train with us and want to get stronger, then you'll have to be 100% committed. Meaning once you start, then you have to see this to the end."
The Titans all turn to each other, unsure of what the other is thinking or if they should agree to do this. At first, yes, they were pumped to get stronger, and help their friends for the upcoming fight with Trigon's sons. However, after what they were just told and how if they agree to do this, then they'll have to stay till the end.
"We'll give you guys half an hour to make your decision," said Ronin as he and Yoruichi leave to let them think about this decision.
Once they left, Robin turns to the others, knowing they have a big decision to make. "So," he began to speak up to break the silence. "What do you guys think? You all up for this?"
"I don't know," said Cyborg as he spoke up next while appearing to have some doubts. "I mean, at first, I would have said yes without a second thought. But now? I don't know."
Cyborg then turns towards Raven and felt bad for thinking about this. "I mean, I want to help. You all know I do, but after what Yoruichi said about BB and I with our spiritual pressure not being so high enough to be a Soul Reaper…I don't know."
"Yeah, that made me feel like I won't get to be as strong as I need to be to kick some real butt," said Beast Boy who was hoping go around in the same outfit as his friends and swing around those cool swords like they have.
"Just because our spiritual pressure isn't strong enough to become Soul Reapers, does not mean we can't get stronger," said Starfire who didn't want to let these doubts stop her or let it stop her friends. "I am also sure that Mr. Ronin and Lady Yoruichi know this. So, they'll help us find another way to get stronger."
"But a month to do that? Why only a month?" Raven asked as she had some thoughts about why they chose that as their time to train instead of it being longer. "Is it going to take a month before the next attack? Is it when my father will make his move? Is it when the world will…"
Raven begins calming herself down before she can continue to speak. "Look, I think its great that they came here to help us out and want to make us stronger, but I really don't think you guys should continue risking your lives like this. I really don't want to see you all get hurt because of me."
"And we don't want to see you get hurt either, Raven," said Robin as he spoke up and tries to rally his team together. "We all knew it would be dangerous, that we could get seriously hurt, and we know how bad things will get. Despite that though, we shouldn't let it stop us. We should use this opportunity that's being presented to us to do more than stand on the sideline."
"Robin, you died because of me. You only came back out of pure luck," said Raven as she continues to have some doubts. Despite what Robin said. "I don't want to lose any of you because of me."
"You won't," said Starfire as she tries to reassure her friend, they'll be okay. "We aren't going anywhere. Robin is right. This will not be easy, but we cannot sit idly by while our friends are out there fighting our battles. We must use this opportunity to train, get stronger, and stand by their side to protect our world from Trigon."
Starfire knew even though there's a possibility she wouldn't be able to achieve the same kind of power that their Soul Reaper friends have, she still wants to try. She didn't want to sit by and watch her friends get hurt. She didn't want to sit by and watch her lose Robin again. She didn't want to feel that way again.
"We can all do this. I know we can," said Starfire as she refuses to give up and will keep moving forward.
Robin nods in agreement before turning to the others. "Listen, I know you guys are worried and scared how this'll turn out. But we won't hold it against you if you agree not to join in. We'll understand. Starfire and I are going to go through with this training so we can get stronger."
Raven was trying to come up with the right words to use to try keeping her friends from going through with this. While Cyborg and Beast Boy turn to each other. There were still some doubts and concerns about all of this. But the two knew they couldn't sit back while their friends go through with the training.
"You know, I always thought with my mechanical body, I would always be plagued with having my limits," said Cyborg as he looks down at his mechanical right hand before balling up a fist. "But with you guys, you showed me I had no limits. That I'm capable of surpassing my flaws that my body has, and I can reach new heights."
Cyborg knew his battles with Atlas to Brother Blood showed him he could do more than he ever dreamed he was able to do. He practically limitless. So, if he's told he can get stronger, despite having this mechanical body, then he'd be a fool not to accept. And even see what else he can do.
Beast Boy after hearing his friend's speech, felt a little bit of confidence returning to him. "Maybe it couldn't hurt to get a little stronger. I wonder if they can teach me to try using one of my animal forms to fight against Hollows."
"Only one way to find out," said Cyborg as he pats his friend on the back.
Beast Boy began to smile and nods in response. "Okay, I'm in too."
The four Titans all got excited with the idea of trying to get stronger. They know it won't be easy, but nothing ever is when they're trying to get stronger. And at the very least, if they do this, then they'll be ready for whatever is thrown their way. While they'll be able to fight alongside their Soul Reaper friends too.
Raven on the other hand wasn't sure about this. She did want to believe if they train, they'll get stronger, but a part of her is worried it won't be enough. She almost lost one of her friends, she didn't want to lose them all. They're important to her, not just as friends, but more as family.
Robin saw the concerned look on Raven's face and sighed as he walks over to check on her. "Raven, I know you're worried and you're still not sure about all of this. But we should give this a chance. If this can somehow help us prevent Trigon's arrival, then we have to take this chance."
"I-I know that. It's just…" Raven sighed as she looks away while rubbing her right arm. "I just don't want to lose any of you. I know you all want to get stronger, but I don't want to see any of you get hurt because of me."
"I know. I don't want to lose anyone else too," said Robin who didn't want to lose any more people close to him. "But that's why I'm going to do this. After seeing my parents…I realize they're right. I am needed here. Here to continue leading, fighting, and being by all your sides."
Raven has been in Robin's mind and understood what she's feeling. But he wouldn't be doing this unless he was sure it can work. She also knew there was no point in talking them out of it. If they feel this'll help them, then she should give them a chance.
Who knows? It could help them get stronger and be ready for whatever her father throws at them.
"Come on, Raven. Are you in?" Robin asked as he extends his gloved right hand towards his friend.
Raven looks down at the hand and then to her friends, who all seem eager for her to join them. Raven gave a small smile before she took Robin's hand.
Starfire lets out a small happy glee before she hugs her two friends. "Oh, this is wonderful! We're all going to work train together and get stronger!"
"Ah yeah! And we'll take down any bad guy who comes our way!" said Cyborg as he got pumped up.
"And next time we face off against Slade or any other demon brothers, we'll take them down together," said Beast Boy as he turns into a T-Rex and lets out a loud roar.
Raven couldn't help but feel the confidence from her friends growing and feel it flowing in her too. She still has those doubts deep in her but is hoping all this training will indeed help them. She's just hoping it'll be enough. And is hoping if she gets stronger too, it'll be enough to save her world from her father.
While the Titans seem to all agree to participate in the training, Ronin and Yoruichi stood by watching the kids talk from a nearby cliff. The two had decided to stay out of sight but be close by enough to listen in on the conversation. It seems they were hesitating on agreeing to train with them. But after some pep talk from Robin, it was enough to get them all to agree to the training.
"It seems you were right, Ronin," said Yoruichi as she's seen leaning against the cliff with her arms crossed. "I was worried they weren't all agree to this, but it seems they understand how important this is."
"It's not that they understand the importance of training with us. It's they don't want to see their friends get hurt," said Ronin who can see why his students have taken a liking from them.
"I know," said Yoruichi as she begins moving her left hand up to her chin and begins sensing the strength level of the kids. "I feel like with Beast Boy and Starfire, it'll be tricky to get them to the level we need them to be. Cyborg will be easy due to his background, while with Raven and Robin shouldn't be too hard to get them there. But those two, it will be difficult."
"Terra was difficult too at first, but you managed to get her where she needed to be," said Ronin as he reminds Yoruichi how her student was the same.
"That was different. Her mother was a Soul Reaper, so it made things easier for her to become one," said Yoruichi as she had an annoyed look on her face. "And even then, it still difficult for her to become committed to it."
"Yeah, well, with the Titans it'll likely be the same. Minus the commitment part," said Ronin as he begins pointing to each member. "With Robin, it is entirely possible for him to become a Soul Reaper after what he went through. Raven, while it is possible for her to become one too, I feel teaching her Kido will be more up her alley. Cyborg due to who his parents were, its possible he can achieve the power they possessed. As for the young alien princess and green shapeshifter…I feel they still achieve a new kind of power."
One that Ronin is confident they'll be able to possess if given the right kind of training. And knows just the right people to ask for help.
"Fortunately for us, I've contacted already the Soul Society of the Ebiyan. And they've agreed to send down two of their lieutenants to help us with the training," Ronin is confident with the arrival of the other Soul Reapers, they'll be able to get the job done.
"Just two huh? This means we'll have to split the training then," said Yoruichi who knew with the four of them, they'll have to add another Titan to join one of their training sessions. "And here I thought you had planned for us to teach them separately."
"Ha! Of course not," said Ronin as he reveals another surprise. "I asked him to show up."
Yoruichi begins to groan when she heard who Ronin is bringing down. "Really? Of all people, you called him to help us out?"
"We need him," said Ronin who knew they can't do this without his help. "You and I both suck when it comes to teaching a Quincy how to use their powers."
"This is true," said Ronin who knew they know how the power works and he has tried teaching it. "But with his help we should be able to get it done."
Yoruichi sighed in annoyance and rubs the side of her head. "I guess he can't be as bad as those other Quincy your granddaughter has hidden up on that island. Do you think the kid has the capability to awaken his Quincy powers? Considering…well, you know."
Ronin turns towards the kids and begins stroking his beard. "It won't be easy, due to how late he is at gaining these powers. But I'm confident with the right kind of teaching, he'll be able to do it. Even if he's half-human and half-machine, I'm confident Victor will do it."
"I hope you're right," said Yoruichi as she begins stretching her arms. "It's going to be a long one-month training. I better get a long vacation after this."
"I'll be sure to let Hanako know that when this is over," said Ronin as he begins formulating the kind of training to put these kids through.
They only have a month, starting tomorrow, to get these kids to where they need to be. If they don't get the power they need by then, then they won't have a chance against the next wave. Now that Trigon has seen the kind of power a Soul Reaper possesses, he has no doubt he'll send more heavy hitters at them. And most likely, will be ones even their own students won't be able to beat alone.
Meanwhile
Terra or rather Tara is seen sitting on rooftop of the tower. She had arrived after she sensed the others had gone down to the underground training room. She didn't want them to sense her presence when she arrived. Not that they would have been able to sense her anyways.
And even if they did, she wouldn't want to see them. Not after what she did.
It's been the story of her life really. One which started off much differently than how it would go. She begins looking up at the moon and begins closing her eyes. As memories of her past began coming back to her.
Long ago, Tara was once from the country of Markovia. It was a country ruled by a king and queen, her parents. She was the princess of this land, along with her older brother, Brion. Things seemed to go well for the royal family and Tara was happy. That was until her brother and her were kidnapped by a crazed man who wanted to control their kingdom.
Both acquired earth-based powers and became meta-humans. However, while her brother was successful in controlling his powers, Tara was not. She lost control and ran away. She was scared, terrified, and worried her people would come after her.
So, she left in hopes of finding a place for herself to be happy. To live in peace, but everywhere she went, trouble followed her. She tried to be a hero, but every time, she lost control of her powers, and made things worse.
That's why when she showed up to the Teen Titans, she thought she could fit in with them. Become one of them. But once again, her fear got the better of her. After her confrontation with Slade, she lost control of her powers, but Beast Boy managed to help her recover.
She had told him about her lack of control over her powers and made him promise not to say anything. But when Robin offered to train her, she flipped out. She believed Beast Boy told them the truth, unaware that Robin saw her lose control of her powers. But she didn't listen and instead ran away.
Right into Slade, who manipulated her. He made her believe her friends didn't care about her. That was the only important thing in the world to her. That he was the only one who truly cared about her and wanted what was best for her.
What a stupid girl she was. She bought it all hook, line, and stinker. She believed in all that crap he told her and didn't think for one second, he was using her. And played into his hands.
He used her to spy on her friends, to learn their secrets, share them with Slade, and tried to kill them. She tried to kill them so many times and didn't regret her actions. She even looked Beast Boy in the eyes before she closed the earth on him. Trying to kill the only person who she…who she really loved.
But instead of listening to him, to her real friends, she kept playing the role of the puppet. Being strung along to try killing them and take over the city.
Yeah, in the end, she did break free from Slade when she saw his true colors. She fought him and ended up killing him. But during her fight, she triggered a volcano. A volcano that she knew the others couldn't stop and would destroy their home.
So, to save them, to save everyone and make up for all she did, she sacrificed herself. Using her full power and managed to stop the volcano's eruption. This in turn turned her to stone. Trapping her from within the prison of her own making, while completely unaware of it.
"I still remember what it was like being trapped there," said Tara to herself as she looks down at her left hand. "It was dark. Completely dark. It was cold, quiet, and I couldn't move. I hated it, and yet, a part of me felt this is where I belonged."
This is where Terra, deserved to perish, and never come back to harm another single soul again. That's what Tara thought and felt its where her story should have ended, and yet…
"And yet here you are, alive again," Tara jumped a little when Hikari snuck up on her, causing the white-haired girl to laugh a little. "Sorry about that. I saw you looking all gloom and doom, so I came to cheer ya up."
Hikari had appeared in her human form. Wearing her red/black flannel buttoned shirt, her blue jeans, gloves, and boots. She also appears to be holding a bowl in her hand. A bowl filled with cookies.
Hikari walks over and sits next to Tara along the edge of the rooftop. Offering her a cookie, in the shape of Tara. "Like it? I made it earlier and got it out fresh from the oven…well, more accurately, my Gigai made it while I was out fighting Raven's brothers. I called her to add this when I sensed you were in town so…"
Tara threw the cookie back at Hikari, who caught it with her left hand and looks down at it. "Let me guess, not in the mood, grumpy pants?"
"What gave it away?" Tara asked as she was clearly not in a good mood.
Hikari sighed as she puts the cookie in the bowel with the rest of the cookies, in the shape of the Titans, herself, and her brother. "I see you're still as grumpy as always," she replied before moving her arms back to the floor of the rooftop, while she looks up at the moon. "I guess coming back here has brought back some not-so-happy memories, huh?"
Tara didn't say anything. Instead? She brought her legs up to her chest and looks away from Hikari. Although Hikari got her answer when she saw how she responded.
"I don't blame you for not wanting to come back and I totally get it. However, from what the others told me, especially Beast Boy, they still think highly of you," said Hikari as she recalls of the stories the others told her about Terra and how much they loved her. "I know you still blame yourself for what happened and I'm sure you wish you didn't come back, but…"
"There is no, but, Hikari," Tara replied as she clearly sounds angry. "I do blame myself for what happened, because it was all my fault," she stood up and begins walking away, while in anger. "It was my fault for not listening to Beast Boy. It was my fault for letting Slade play me like a drum. It was my fault for not seeing the lies before me. It was my fault I hurt so many innocent people who looked up to me."
Tara stops walking away and tries to tone down her anger a little. "If I hadn't let Slade manipulate me and used me against my friends, then things could have gone differently. And I wouldn't have done so many terrible things, but I did," said Tara as she turns to Hikari. "I can't expect you or your brother to understand though. You both never did what I did and didn't hurt as many people as me."
Tara knows that Hikari and Isamu both are real heroes. They never lost control over their powers and never let a bad guy manipulate them. While she understands why they're doing all of this. It doesn't mean they'll understand what she went through.
"I don't deserve it. Just like…" Tara looks down at her hands and sighed softly before she slowly turns to Hikari. "I don't deserve to be here. I don't deserve to have these powers. I shouldn't be here. Why did…why did they bring me back if they know of what I did?"
Hikari could tell Tara was really beating herself after all she's put everyone through. Despite being told that her friends all miss her, she wasn't buying it. She believes they still hate her for what she did. And wanted her gone, but that isn't true.
"Your right. My brother and I don't understand, because we never lost control over our powers, at least, without you guys knowing about it," said Hikari as she sees Tara turning towards her, looking confused.
Hikari begins walking over, before unbuttoning her shirt and moves it aside. Tara almost looked away while blushing because she thought Hikari was trying to do something lewd. But when she saw her move the top aside, she saw some scars around her body.
"My brother's got some too. Just more on his left shoulder," said Hikari as she begins rubbing her scar. "It was about 5 years ago; we were fighting some Arrancar that Sōsuke Aizen had send to kidnap us so he can study us when…when my brother and I lost control of ourselves when the…mask appeared."
Tara knew exactly what mask Hikari is referring to and looks a little surprised. She's seen them use them before, but never saw them have any trouble when they appear.
"Everything went dark for a moment, but when he came to, it was after our masters shattered the masks over our faces. While revealing after we killed the Arrancar, we tried to kill one another," said Hikari as she had a sad expression as she remembers coming to and how they were both covered in blood. "It wasn't the first time it happened. It happened two more times, where we both almost killed one another again, and our masters."
Tara was shocked to hear how both her friends, who always looked to be in control of their powers, almost killed one another and their masters. She didn't think they would be capable of doing that, but it seems she was wrong.
Hikari begins fixing her shirt before she continued to speak. "Look, we all make mistakes, Tara. And while it's true, my brother and I weren't aware of it, we still felt it. But instead of our masters giving up, they helped us overcome our flaws. They helped us accept what happened but not to let it keep us from trying to find a way to fix our mistakes."
Hikari placed her right hand on Tara's right shoulder and tries to cheer her up. "You made a mistake, but admitting what you did is the first step of forgiving yourself. Your friends know what you did was wrong, but they've told us if you were here, they'd welcome you back. You aren't just their friend, you're like family to them."
"She's right you know," Tara and Hikari look over to see Isamu standing by the door to the rooftop. He appears to be wearing a long-sleeve grey shirt, dark jeans, boots, and gloves. "They've said nothing but positive things about you and wish you were still here with them. While yes, they've acknowledged you did some bad things, they'd still be willing to give you a second chance. One you so deserve."
"And after saving your friends from Raven's crazy brother earlier, I have no doubt you will have deserve it," said Hikari who knew had Tara not been freed from her stone prison, there's a good chance Starfire could have been killed too. "And like I said, they miss you."
"They really do," said Isamu as he walks over and leans close to Tara's ears. "Especially Beast Boy. He's still crazy for you."
Tara blushed a little as she turns away from the twins, while trying to shake off her embarrassment. Although, it did make her happy know Beast Boy still has feelings for her.
"Look, I appreciate the pep talk guys, but…but I'm not ready to meet them. Not yet," said Tara who knew she won't be ready to reveal to the others she's back yet. "And besides, it's not like I'm really back, back. My body is still trapped in stone. Just my soul is freed but does require one of those artificial bodies' you guys gave me."
"Oh yeah, that reminds me," Hikari snaps her fingers and soon the Tara Gigai appeared behind the real one. While kneeled on the ground and with her head bowed down.
This Tara looks a little like her, except the hair is black instead of blond, green eyes instead of her blue colored ones, and a light tan skin, instead of her regular color. This one also appeared dressed as a schoolgirl than in the regular clothes Tara has on.
"I gave this one a new Soul Candy since you told me you didn't like the Chappy one," said Hikari as she explains what she did.
"You mean the one who was all giggling, happy, and a ray of fucking sunshine?" Tara asked as she had a look of dread on her face. "Yeah, no, wasn't happy with that one, especially how I feel it had a psychopathic side to it when it threatened to break Killer Frost's arms."
"The important thing is she didn't and that's all that matters," said Hikari as she walked over and wrapped her left arm around her friend's shoulders, while she nods her head.
Tara sighed softly as she removes her friend's arm from her shoulders. "You were saying?"
"Hmm? Oh yeah, the new model. This one is more serious, will defend itself from danger, and will not break any bones or kill anyone," said Hikari as the modified soul within Tara's Gigai stood up straight and has her arms to her side. "And will obey any orders upon request. Right, Tara?"
"Ma'am, yes ma'am!" said the Gigai Tara, which didn't make the original happy.
"Just get it out of this body so I can take mine back at my place before tomorrow," said Tara who just wanted to get in this body already and get some rest.
"I'm still surprised you picked being a teenage girl going to school. You do realize you could just stay at the apartment Ronin set up for you and not go out to risk being seen," said Isamu who didn't understand Tara's logic for doing this.
"Of course, you would think that. Neither one of you know how to act like a real normal teenage kid and never went to school," said Tara who knew she shouldn't be talking like she acted like a normal teenager.
Tara and her brother were schooled while back at their home, but by a private tutor. Never really hung around with other kids and had a normal childhood. Still, she knew she was closer to know how a teenager should act and not try to get eyes on her. She's done it for years.
"This is true, but were homeschooled by our mentors, who knew more than those teachers ever did," said Hikari who was proud of the fact she never went to a real school.
"Plus, I think even if we did go to one, we would have been kicked out for being out so many times," said Isamu who knew with their kind of job, they wouldn't be able to stay in school for long.
"Well, regardless, I need to go to school since the neighbors would have been suspicious if they find out a 15-year-old girl is living at an apartment on her own without going to school," and the last thing Tara needs is for the cops to bother her again like the last place she was staying at. "And besides, I've been needing some social activities with people outside this inner circle I'm in that isn't a ghost hunting hero."
Isamu and Hikari understand Tara's reason for why she's going to school and decided not to peruse it any longer.
"Fair enough, but I got to say," Hikari begins eyeing the Gigai Tara's body a little. "I think you look good as in a schoolgirl uniform."
"Will you stop that?!" Tara shouted while blushing from what her friend is doing.
Isamu sighed softly and rubs the back of his head. "Yeah, let's move this subject to something else. Like how we've been tasked to keep an eye on the city while the others begin their training. Master Ronin just texted me that they all accepted to the training."
"So, this means we'll be out and about saving the day from bad guys. Both living, supernatural, and demonic," said Hikari who seems excited with this. "Even if most of the people in this city can't see us, it'll still be fun."
"Well, you all have fun with that," said Tara who didn't seem as excited as the other. "I'm only going to get involved if there's a Hollow attack or if Trigon's minions show up."
"Like Slade?" Isamu asked as he got a silence response from Tara, but her body language told him enough of how she felt. "Listen, I dealt with him and he's not as tough as he looks. In your Soul Reaper form, you'll be able to kick his ass again, even without your earth powers."
"And you'll send his ass back to Hell where he belongs," said Hikari who's confident in Tara's powers.
Tara knew even with her earth powers, she could still kick his ass, but with his demonic powers…well, she isn't so sure. But her friends are right. With her Soul Reaper powers, even if she's not as strong as her friends, she knows she can kick Slade's ass. She killed him once and she'll do it again. And she'll make sure he doesn't come back.
The trio soon heard an alarm going off, which was coming from Isamu and Hikari's T-Communicators, that Robin had given them. Looking at the communicators, they see one of the criminals, Doctor Light robbing a bank. It looks like not all supervillains got the message that Slade's back in town. But then again, from what they were told, Doctor Light isn't the brightest (no pun intention) villain that the Titans have gone up again.
"You girls can go ahead and get some rest," said Isamu as he begins taking out his Soul Candy. "I'll go take care of this dumbass and send him back to prison."
"Nah. It'll be more fun if we tag along," said Hikari as she took out her Soul Candy too, before turning to Tara. "I mean, if you want to."
Tara knew just one of them is needed to take care of Doctor Light. But it has been a while since she fought a normal criminal that wasn't a large monster trying to eat people's souls.
"Like I'll let you two have all the fun," said Tara before she begins walking towards the ledge. "I just hope two still have some strength left after beating Raven's brothers."
"Ha! As if! Race you both over there!" said Hikari as she swallows her Soul Candy and separates from her human body, and into her Soul Reaper form.
Tara begins following her, while Isamu swallows his Soul Candy and separates his soul from his human body. He motions for his Gigai to go with Tara and Hikari's Gigai, while he goes off to chase the others. As he was about to take off, he sensed a presence from a distance. It was faint, but he could feel there was something there.
"What was that?" Isamu asked as he tries to concentrate on what he was sensing but couldn't get tell if it was a Hollow or a Soul Reaper.
"Hey slowpoke! Let's go!" Hikari shouts at her brother to hurry it up.
Isamu snapped out of it for a moment, before he tried to sense the presence he felt, but found it was gone. "Well, it didn't feel like anything dangerous. So, maybe it was nothing?" he shrugs it off and begins taking off to follow the girls towards their destination.
Meanwhile, across from the island where the tower is at, near a canyon, where a road is at, a vehicle can be seen parked on the side. There stood an old looking man can be seen staring towards the tower, while wearing a Fedora hat, a trench coat, dark gloves, and is holding a cane in hand. The man looked to be in his 70s with short white hair, long white mustache, wrinkly skin, and glasses over his brown eyes.
"Sir?" the driver of the elderly man began speaking to him. "Sare you ready?"
The elderly man nods in response as he turns to go back in the vehicle, when a silver five-pointed cross with a circle between circle and a star in the middle of the cross, appeared hanging around his left arm. With the very same symbol on the back of his coat as he gets in the vehicle. Before the driver got in and begins driving them off towards the city. Where the elderly man has some business with some old friends.
That's the end of the chapter and it looks like the Titans have agreed to be trained. A good thing for them is they have some good teachers to teach them. While they also work on helping them get the power, they need to stand a chance against Trigon's minions. Will it be enough?
Also, that reveal about Cyborg being a Quincy, it'll be explained a little bit more when I get to it. I just though it would be a nice addition to give him the same abilities as a Quincy. For those who've seen the series, no one can't tell me it'd be cool to see him use his powers and see it being fired from his cannon arm? Now that sounds like a fun idea.
Also, the backstory with the Soul King, I made the part up about him being chosen to do what he did. While also adding in the other Soul Societies with the other captains. Someone I spoke to on Tumblr gave me this idea where what if there are other Soul Societies that are in charge in other countries. Like those that look out for Europe, Africa, America, Russia, China, etc.
One thing led to another and well once I get a very good idea, I try going through with it. Still, will the arrival of these other Soul Reapers be enough? Will they be ready for whatever Trigon is up to? And will our heroes be prepared for it?
Also, yeah, I decided to give some backstory about Terra/Tara and had her become a Soul Reaper. While revealing that her human body is still stone, but her soul form is still free. But without her powers. How will things go when she eventually does reunite with her friends?
And will they all be happy to see her back or will it be an awkward reunion?
Tune in next time to find out. Also, thanks to those who left reviews from the last chapter and have subscribed to the story. I appreciate it and I will work to continue where I left off with this story. And will have it go the way I now want it to go.
Please leave some reviews and let me know what you all thought. Just nothing negative please. Also, thanks to my friends for their help and support. I appreciate it and see you all next time, bye.
