Here Comes the Sun
25th of June, 1995.
The day after the task was a Sunday. Harry and Fleur were lying out by the lake. The sun was shining and people were outside relaxing. Hufflepuff House was still celebrating Cedric's victory. They would probably be celebrating for days to come.
"'E said 'e would come by this summer," Fleur said. She looked over at Harry. "What am I going to do 'Arry. 'E is soooo..." she sighed dreamily.
Harry chuckled. "I'm glad he is coming over," he said. "Don't worry too much about it. He likes you for you. Just be yourself."
"Thank you 'Arry," Fleur said. She looked worried for a moment. "You are coming too, right?" she asked.
"I will. I just have to do a few things first. Moody has asked me to help with some Auror recruits. He is asking for like a week of my time then I'll come over," he said. "I'll send Winky to let you know."
"That sounds good," Fleur said. She sighed.
"My, my Fleur," Harry said. He poked at her. "Poor girl has her head filled with images of a tall and muscular redhead. Not that I can fault you. He's really good-looking."
"'E is mine," Fleur said playfully. "Get your own."
Harry laughed. "Oh, that won't be a problem, he has plenty of brothers," he said jokingly.
"Oh, 'Arry," Fleur said while laughing.
"Can we go swimming? It's a beautiful day and the Black Lake is just out there. We won't dive down so the grindylows won't get to us," Harry asked.
Fleur looked contemplative for a moment. "Only if you promise to keep those things off me," she said.
"I promise," Harry said. He was already wearing his swimwear. He smiled as Fleur disappeared over to the carriage so she could get herself ready for a swim. He was still smiling as she came back.
There were a lot of people by the lake, several of them were even dipping their feet in the water.
Harry was first into the water. It was still chilly but not cold anymore. The lake was so deep that it probably wasn't going to warm up that much. He turned around and held his arms out to Fleur. She waded out to him and they took off in the clear water. The Black Lake was dark because of something deeper down in the lake. The top parts of the lake were all clear water.
Harry was laughing as he wrestled with Fleur. She had attacked him. He was so going to get her back. "You better hide," he said. He took off after her as she tried to swim away from him. He caught up with her and grabbed her. He rolled them around in the water, and she laughed as she came back up above the water's surface.
"Harry!"
Harry turned around. Hermione was standing by the shore.
"Viktor come join us!" Fleur called behind him.
Harry laughed. The Bulgarian was standing on the bow of the Durmstrang ship. He waved at them before diving into the lake. It, strangely enough, wasn't all that common for people to swim in the lake. Harry didn't know why, but he could tell that people were going to be gossiping about it. He'd been in the thick of it for a while now. He had a feeling that wouldn't change. "Hey Viktor," he said as the dark-haired teen broke through the water surface next to him.
"Harry," Viktor said with a nod.
"Your girl is over on the shore," Harry said.
Viktor turned to look at Hermione. A small smile spread over his lips. As he turned back to Harry, he had a thoughtful look on his face. "You'll keep her safe, yes?" he asked.
Harry nodded. "I will," he said. "Let's convince her to join us." He took off towards the shore. He reached Hermione. "Come join us," he said.
Hermione shook her head with a smile.
"Oh, come on," Harry said.
"Let me 'andle this 'Arry," Fleur said. She got out of the water and disappeared off with Hermione. Harry had no idea what the girls were talking about, but he could guess.
Hermione wore a dark blue bathing suit when they came back. She waded out in the water with the rest of them. "This is crazy," she said.
Harry shrugged. "Why, because no one does it? People are afraid of the squid. He isn't going to hurt anyone," he said. "Come on, the people staring are just jealous." He did his best to calm his friend down so she wouldn't hurt herself. It took some convincing before Hermione ignored the students on the shore so she could just swim with her friends and have fun.
Hermione was laughing as they got out of the lake and wrapped up in towels. They warmed up in the sun quickly and Winky showed up with lunch.
Qozul was lying next to Harry bathing in the sun. He kept himself between Fleur and Harry so no one would notice him.
Cedric showed up and flopped down between Harry and Hermione. "I like winning," he said. "But do people have to keep congratulating me? I want to live my life too. Cho is getting irritated as well." he glared at Harry. "At least she didn't notice your little stunt."
"Sorry dude I'll have a talk with my journalist and make sure a statement goes out at the same time as Rita's article stating that I was messing with you and Rita," Harry said.
"That would be appreciated," Cedric said. He looked at Harry. "You… are you gay?" he asked.
Harry laughed and shook his head. "No," he said. "In all honesty… I don't think I care about stuff like that."
Cedric nodded. He guessed that made some kind of sense. He kept forgetting that Harry was just fourteen. He didn't act like he was fourteen.
It took a while for Cedric to notice that no one had approached him while he sat with the other Champions. The only person who had noticed him was Cho who had come up and joined them. He wasn't sure if people stayed away out of respect or if someone in their group was keeping people away. Either way, he was very grateful to just have a quiet afternoon.
28th of June, 1995.
Fred and George were cleaning out their makeshift lab. They would set it up again after summer, but they didn't want anyone to find their things while they were away. Harry was helping them pack everything. Some of the mess was his after all.
They were packing the finished candies away and Harry was going to take care of that so Mrs Weasley didn't throw it away. They didn't want to lose everything they had made so far. They gave their main recipe book to Harry as well. "You'll keep these safe right," Fred said.
"Yes," Harry said. "I'll put it all in your vault."
"Thanks, Harry," George said.
"You aren't going back to the Dursleys?" Fred asked.
"Nope," Harry said. "I have plenty of other plans."
"Cool," George said. "As long as you get enough to eat and don't have bars on your windows."
"Won't happen. I'll go see Fleur for most of the summer," Harry said.
"Oh, some French love," George said.
"Maybe," Harry said. "I'll mostly play babysitter for Gabrielle so your brother Bill can take Fleur out on dates I think."
"Yeah, we did," "notice that Bill," "seemed too like Fleur." "That is nice." "We like Fleur," the twins said.
Harry chuckled. He would miss Fred and George. At least they had one more year to go before the twins were done with Hogwarts. They would have one heck of a blast next year as the twins promoted their store before leaving.
30th of June, 1995.
It was the day before the Hogwarts Express headed to London. Fleur and Viktor were heading back home with the rest of the foreign students. Harry stood by the Beauxbatons carriage with his arms around Fleur. "I'll see you soon," he said. He kissed her on the cheek. "You take care of yourself and play with Gabrielle."
Fleur nodded. "You be careful 'Arry. Don't do anything stupid," she said. She was worried about him. She knew it wasn't really necessary, but she still worried. It was almost strange how close they had gotten in such a small amount of time. She had friends back in France she was that close to, but she had known them since she was little. She didn't mind at all though. She was just glad she had taken the chance to be his friend.
Harry hugged Fleur close. "Au revoir," he said.
"Au revoir 'Arry," Fleur responded. "Don't you forget to write."
"I won't," Harry said. "And I'll be over soon."
Fleur smiled. She gave him another hug before walking into the carriage.
Harry walked from the carriage over to the ship where Hermione was saying goodbye to Viktor. He stayed a respectful distance away from them. He didn't want to intrude on their conversation. He was pretty sure that whatever they had to tell each other was rather private. He waved goodbye to Viktor as Hermione started heading up to him.
Hermione was blushing deeply. She smiled softly at him as she reached him. He took her hand and they walked up to the carriages. He'd miss Viktor too. It had been nice to have another Seeker to talk to.
They headed back up to the castle with everyone else who had said goodbye to their new friends.
Now all they had to do was pack so they would be ready for the ride home.
1st of July, 1995.
Harry didn't run that morning. He spent his morning in the common room with Qozul at first and then Hermione showed up. Harry spent a little while talking to Tanya and Natalie. Winky brought breakfast up to the common room so they could have a slow morning. When they finally made their way down it was time to leave.
As they reached the carriages, Harry stopped by one of the skeletal horses. He really should have looked into what they were. "So you pull the carriages," he said softly. He didn't linger though. He knew Hermione couldn't see them. He hadn't either when they had arrived at Hogwarts that year. There were so many students swarming around them that he doubted Hermione had noticed him talking to the horse-like creature. He helped her into a carriage before climbing in himself. They would have to try to find Neville when they reached the train.
Neville was sitting in a compartment close to the end of the train. He smiled up at Harry and Hermione as they entered. "Hi guys," he said. He looked at Harry. "We're going to see my parents next week, right?" he asked.
"Next Saturday unless something comes up," Harry said.
Neville nodded. He was both really scared of meeting his mom and really excited. He would be able to talk to her, but she wouldn't know who he was.
"I guess that's another year," Harry said. He looked at the two he was sharing the compartment with as the train started moving. "A lot of things have changed," he said. "Most of them for the better. We'll spend the summer apart but this won't change. Come next year we'll pick everything back up again."
"Oh, for sure," Hermione said. She got a thoughtful look on her face. "It's strange though. Who really entered your name into the goblet? I mean in the end, nothing happened. You were fine," she said.
"Ah, didn't I tell you?" Harry said. "Moody wasn't actually Moody during the start of the year. At Christmas, I figured it out, scared the impostor off and rescued the real Moody. Dumbledore knows about the swap but not my involvement. They decided to not tell the students. I'm sorry I didn't say anything. The impostor put my name in the goblet. I think it might have been some kind of scheme to bring Voldemort back, but it obviously didn't work out."
"Oh, I see," Hermione said. She gave him a scratching glare. "You could have made sure we knew that."
"I must have forgotten," Harry said. "I'm not perfect Hermione."
"That is certainly obvious," Hermione said. She rolled her eyes and smiled at him.
The three of them settled down with a book each and read as the train chugged along. It was calm and quiet until the compartment door was pushed open only to reveal Malfoy and his goons.
"Hello, Draco, is there anything you want?" Harry asked politely. He lowered his book and tilted his head to the side in a questioning manner.
"You really think much of yourself, Potter," Malfoy spat. He looked at the other two in the compartment. "You surround yourself with losers just so you can feel like you're worth something. What do they do for you… lick your shoes?"
Harry hummed softly. "I don't see how you are one to talk Draco," he said. He sighed. "Please Draco, stop bothering us unless you have something intelligent to say."
Draco pulled his wand and Harry smirked as Neville was quicker on the draw. Malfoy was thrown back and Hermione moved forward to lock the door. "There, that should keep them out," she said. She sat back down again and picked her book back up. It was a nice change. The calm. She was used to the boys being loud and obnoxious on the ride back to London. Neville and Harry were calm though. They went from reading to talking about different Herbology. Neville had his own greenhouse filled with plants.
Harry made a mental note to hire Neville when it came to his own garden. He wanted it to be functional and he might as well keep plants that Fred could use for potions. He needed stuff that could be used for cooking for Winky as well.
As the train started slowing down, Harry could be seen looking out the window. He helped Hermione with her luggage as the train stopped before going for his own. Once he had gotten everything out on the platform he let Hedwig out of her cage. "Find me in a couple of days," he said. She hooted at him before she took off. He followed the flow of the crowd to the exit to the non-magical world. Mrs Weasley was standing out there and she walked up to him as he walked outside. "You take care of yourself now," she told him.
Harry nodded. "I promise Mrs Weasley," he said. He smiled as Remus came walking up to him.
"I'm sorry. I'm late," Remus said.
"You aren't that late Remus," Harry said.
"I guess not," Remus said. He waved at the Weasley family. "We'll take the knight bus. Let's just head over this way. It stops over by this alley over here," he told Harry.
"Alright, let's head out," Harry said. He waved goodbye to Hermione before they walked off. He would have to remember to send her plenty of letters during the summer. He had never been good at writing, and he knew it wasn't fair. This summer he could write so he would do his best. He followed Remus until he stopped to call the Knight Bus. They didn't talk much during the bumpy wild ride to Remus' home.
They got off the bus on a small dirt road that led up to a cosy-looking cottage. Remus picked Harry's trunk up and carried it with him inside.
The cottage wasn't big by any means, but it was just enough for two people. There were two bedrooms and Remus placed Harry's things in one of them. There was a small comfy-looking living room and a clean orderly kitchen with room for a dining table for six people. They could have guests, but only one or a couple could stay over for now. Once the coming child was old enough, Harry assumed that the room would be converted into a child's bedroom rather than a guest room.
"Lana is at work still," Remus said.
"Do you mind if I take a look in the kitchen and get dinner ready?" Harry asked.
"Harry, you are a guest here," Remus said.
"I have heard stories from Padfoot about your cooking," Harry said. "I think Lana deserves food when she gets home instead of having to make it." He stuck his tongue out at Remus childishly. "Besides, I like cooking."
Remus sighed. "Go ahead and make something," he said.
"When is the wedding?" Harry asked. "You didn't give me a date."
"It is tomorrow," Remus said.
"Do you have anyone making the food for it or the cake?" Harry asked.
"No Lana and I just want it small," Remus said. "We don't want to spend copious amounts of money on this and there aren't going to be that many guests."
"Would you mind if I made some things? Something lighter like finger foods or…?" Harry looked at Remus questioningly.
"Harry you don't have to," Remus said.
"But I want to," Harry said. "You can take it as my wedding gift to you. You go tell Lana that we have food covered for tomorrow, and then you go buy these things and come back here. I'll start on what I can make with what we have already." Harry handed Remus a list of things before he started pulling out pots, pans and bowls. Harry called Winky in as he started working both so he would have some company and so they could get everything done. He headed outside while he left Winky in charge of the food. He wondered if there was anything nearby he could use. He found a river not that far away from the house. A river meant fresh fish if he could find any. They could have that for supper.
Harry returned to Winky sometime later and cleaned out the three fish he had caught so they could grill them. Remus showed up and Harry went through the grocery bags. "Great!" he said.
"Lana should be home soon," Remus said. He looked at the neat kitchen. Despite all the pots and pans that Harry had dragged out there seemed to be almost nothing that needed to get washed up. He could see several different mini pies waiting for the oven and he could smell the fish grilling.
"Homemade fish and chips?" Harry asked. There was a small smirk playing on his lips.
"How do you know how to make this?" Remus asked.
"My family taught me," Harry said. He wasn't lying, but Remus wouldn't know what he meant when he said that. He would assume Aunt Petunia had taught Harry how to cook, which wasn't untrue, but Harry knew how to cook so many different things because of Rashall and Katla. They were his family so he wasn't lying.
"Something smells wonderful."
Harry smiled as Lana walked into her kitchen. Her eyes widened at all the things she saw both done and on the way. "You did tell him it will be a small get-together right?" she asked Remus. Then she walked up to Harry and held her hand out for him to shake.
Harry took the offered hand as Lana introduced herself. He smiled and responded in kind. "I figure I could make enough for you two to have some after as well," Harry said as Lana inquired as to why he was making so much. "Wouldn't it be nice to not have to worry about food for a while? Most of these things are perfectly fine under a stasis charm for up to two weeks or in the freezer until you want them."
Lana smiled. "That is very thoughtful of you," she said. "Remus didn't mention before that you cook."
"I love cooking," Harry said. "And baking. Especially for people I like." He turned around to take care of the chips in the oven as Lana walked up to Remus and kissed him.
Soon enough all four of them were sitting by the table eating fish and chips. Harry had even convinced Winky to join though she did seem slightly uncomfortable at the thought. He would talk to her about that later. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable, but he wanted her to be able to eat with the rest of the family too. Maybe it was something they would have to work slowly on.
"So, how is school going?" Lana asked.
"Great, Now that the insane tournament is over at least. I like my classes well enough, but I'm glad Professor McGonagall allowed me to drop Divination. I wish there was more of a trial run on each subject so you could get a feel for what you want to try instead of having to guess," Harry said. "I didn't know anything about any elective and the information we were given before we had to choose wasn't great either."
Lana nodded. She had felt similar when she had picked electives. She could guess that someone like Harry who was raised muggle would have difficulties since they had no family that could help. Her mother and father had at least been able to tell her what they thought about the subjects they had taken. "How was it to have students from other schools around?" she asked.
"Enlightening," Harry said. He told her about his friendship with both Fleur and Viktor and how different their schools seemed to be while still being fairly similar.
Eventually, they moved from the kitchen to the living room and sat down there instead. They talked for a while longer before everyone went to bed.
Harry lay awake for a while just contemplating how he felt about Remus and Lana. She was nice. He had nothing against her, still, he couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. Maybe it was the fact that Remus probably hadn't told Lana anything about Sirius despite the fact that he had disappeared outside with food and come back without. Lana thankfully hadn't noticed what he was doing but Harry had.
It wasn't surprising that Remus would have his best friend around for his wedding. Harry rolled over on his side and sighed. That certainly wasn't his problem. Bright green eyes blinked close slowly as Harry fell asleep.
2nd of July, 1995.
Harry took over the kitchen the next day while Winky worked on decorations for the wedding. Lana's mother and younger sister showed up and the ladies disappeared into Remus and Lana's room. Harry finished in the kitchen and moved outside where he started greeting guests as they arrived. He sent Remus in to clean up and get ready. Most of the guests were people Lana knew, but Harry saw a few people who were there as Remus' guests too. Chiara showed up with her husband. Harry saw Padfoot sitting by the edge of the forest. He waved when no one was looking.
There were quite a few people there that Harry didn't know at all. He smiled and sent them to their seats. Once everyone had arrived Harry headed in to check on Remus.
"Will you carry the rings?" Remus asked. He held a box out to Harry.
"Are you sure?" Harry asked.
"Yes, I spoke to Lana last night and we want you to carry the rings," Remus said. He looked nervous.
Harry grabbed the box and Remus was wringing his hands together. Harry reached out and grabbed his shoulder. "Calm," he said as he sent a small pulse of calming magic at Remus. Remus nodded and took a deep breath. He walked out along the aisle with Harry by his side to wait for Lana.
The music started.
Lana wasn't led down the aisle. She walked on her own. She was no gift to be given away. Her dress was simple but very pretty. She had most likely made it herself. She had a train that spread out behind her and she held a bouquet of lupines in her hands. She reached Harry and handed her flowers to him. Harry was studying the guests as Remus and Lana took their vows. Most people looked happy enough. He was worried someone would dislike Remus because of what he had been. It didn't seem to be the case though. The mother of the bride was crying so she was probably happy enough.
Harry smiled as he saw Padfoot watching them. He wished he could get away with keeping the dog with him. At least then Sirius would have an alright life even if he had to stay as a dog.
Harry focused back on the wedding as the minister called for the rings. Harry opened the box and gave Remus Lana's ring. He smiled brightly as he placed the ring on her finger.
Harry offered Remus' ring to Lana and she took it.
It was a nice enough wedding but it didn't hold a candle to Katla and Balgruuf's wedding. Harry mingled with the guests for a while before he took some food and walked over to Padfoot. "So Moony is married now," he said.
Padfoot barked.
"I hope that will turn out alright," Harry said.
Padfoot barked again.
"I know, boy. Remus deserves some happiness."
Padfoot lay down. It was nice to just get to spend some time with Harry. Lana's little sister came over to Harry as the dancing started. "Want to dance?" she asked.
Harry stood up and led her over to where the others were dancing. He chuckled as he saw Remus with Lana's mother. He guessed he should dance with Lana too since he was the closest thing to family Remus had.
"You are good at this."
"I had training."
"Because of the tournament?"
"Yepp."
They danced until the end of the song and then she went to find someone else to dance with. Harry sighed. He felt out of place. He looked to be the youngest person there even though he wasn't. He had little in common with anyone. Eventually, he just disappeared. He didn't want to mess with Remus' big day.
3rd of July, 1995.
"Ready to go?" Remus asked.
Harry hummed. Remus was going to take him to Privet Drive. He wasn't going to stay there but Remus didn't need to know that. He packed his things together before walking out. He hugged Lana. "Take care," he said.
Lana smiled. "Oh, I will," she said. "It was nice to meet you."
Harry smiled back. "It was nice meeting you too," he said. He grabbed Remus' arm and the two of them disapparated.
Good old Privet Drive. Harry looked at the cookie-cutter houses in distaste. He had to hand it to Remus and Lana at least their home had personality. "It is probably better if you leave now. They really don't like our kind," he told Remus.
"Well, if you are sure," Remus said.
Harry turned and hugged Remus. "Go home and take care of your wife," he said. "I'll be fine. Don't worry about me."
Remus watched Harry as he walked up to number four. He sighed. He wished Dumbledore would let Harry live with him and Lana. He had tried to convince the Headmaster but Albus had been adamant Harry was only safe at his Aunt's place. He waved at Arabella before he left.
Harry walked up to the door of number four Privet Drive and opened it.
Petunia came walking out of the kitchen. "Finally time to show up is it?" she said with a sneer on her face.
"Last time you are going to see me," Harry said. He drew his ebony wand and shrunk his trunk. He reached in under his shirt and deactivated the glamour before grabbing a potion from a pouch by his belt. He drank it down and turned into a woman. Then she changed his hair colour to red. "Remind you of someone?" Harry asked. "You'll probably never see me again after today. If someone shows up looking for me then just tell them to piss off."
"You are not allowed to use magic outside of school," Petunia said.
"I'm not a kid anymore Aunty dear," Harry said. "You know I have a question before I leave. If you and Vernon had died and Dudley had been left with Lily and James. Do you think they would have treated Dudley as badly as you have treated me?"
Petunia watched as Harry, looking like Lily, walked out of her house. She believed him when he said he was never coming back. She wanted to ignore his last words, but she couldn't shake them. It gnawed at her. She knew Lily would have treated Dudley better than she had treated Harry. She sighed. Now she was going to have to live with that thought.
